Seismic performance of prefabricated bridge columns with combination of continuous mild reinforcements and partially unbonded tendons

  • Prefabricated bridge substructures provide new possibility for designers in terms of efficiency of creativity, fast construction, geometry control and cost. Even though prefabricated bridge columns are widely adopted as a substructure system in the bridge construction project recently, lack of deeper understanding of the seismic behavior of prefabricated bridge substructures cause much concern on their performance in high seismic zones. In this paper, experimental research works are presented to verify enhanced design concepts of prefabricated bridge piers. Integration of precast segments was done with continuity of axial prestressing tendons and mild reinforcing bars throughout the construction joints. Cyclic tests were conducted to investigate the effects of the design parameters on seismic performance. An analytical method for moment-curvature analysis of prefabricated bridge columns is conducted in this study. The method is validated through comparison with experimental results and the fiber model analysis. A parametric study is conducted to observe the seismic behavior of prefabricated bridge columns using the analytical study based on strain compatibility method. The effects of continuity of axial steel and tendon, and initial prestressing level on the load-displacement response characteristics, i.e., the strain of axial mild steels and posttensioned tendon at fracture and concrete crushing strain at the extreme compression fiber are investigated. The analytical study shows the layout of axial mild steels and posttensioned tendons in this experiment is the optimized arrangement for seismic performance.

Test on the anchoring components of steel shear keys in precast shear walls

  • Prefabricated reinforced-concrete shear walls are used extensively in building structures because they are convenient to construct and environmentally sustainable. To make large walls easier to transport, they are divided into smaller segments and then assembled at the construction site using a variety of connection methods. The present paper proposes a precast shear wall assembled using steel shear keys, wherein the shear keys are fixed on the embedded steel plates of adjacent wall segments by combined plug and fillet welding. The anchoring strength of shear keys is known to affect the mechanical properties of the wall segments. Loading tests were therefore performed to observe the behavior of precast shear wall specimens with different anchoring components for shear keys. The specimen with insufficient strength of anchoring components was found to have reduced stiffness and lateral resistance. Conversely, an extremely high anchoring strength led to a short-column effect at the base of the wall segments and low deformation ability. Finally, for practical engineering purposes, a design approach involving the safety coefficient of anchoring components for steel shear keys is suggested.

급속시공을 위한 조립식 합성교각의 내진성능 평가 (Seismic Performance of Prefabricated Composite Column for Accelerated Bridge Construction)

  • 이 논문에서는 교량의 급속시공을 위하여 분절하여 기 제작된 합성기둥을 현장에서 연결하여 완성하는 조립식 합성교각의 내진거동을 조사하였다. 이를 위해 서로 다른 연결 상세를 갖는 3개의 조립식 합성교각을 대상으로 정적반복가력실험을 수행하였다. 실험결과, 조립식 합성교각에 소성힌지가 발생하여도 현장연결부는 탄성적으로 거동하였고 연결부의 상대변위도 발생하지 않았다. 또한 조립식 합성교각의 전반적인 내진성능도 일반적인 내진상세를 가진 콘크리트교각에 비해서 우수한 것으로 나타났다.

Mechanized tunnels lining prefabricated segments production methods

  • In tunneling projects, a significant part of the costs is spent on segment production. By more economically producing, the cost of tunnel construction can be greatly reduced, especially in long and large-diameter tunnels. In the present study, the effect of using the Carousel method in the improvement of the production system performance compared to the conventional Static system has been studied. To carry out the research, a quantitative comparison of cost and production time was carried out for two production methods using the available documentation. The opinions of experts have been obtained using questionnaires and qualitative comparison of cost, time and production quality was done by implementation of statistical analysis. The SPSS software and the univariate t-test were used to analyze the questionnaires. According to the results of statistical analysis with SPSS, the use of the Carousel method will reduce production time and costs along with increasing manufacturing quality. According to the documentation analysis, the Carousel method reduces the cost of production by almost 30% and leads to a reduction of the production time to approximately 40% of the Static moulds system. The Carousel method has a higher production rate, efficiency, and better performance. Research into quantifying the benefits of Carousel method in the production system performance is very limited. This comparison is based on real information from the under construction Tabriz Metro project. This article can be very helpful in choosing the best production method.

  • 본 논문에서는 교량의 급속시공을 위하여 분절하여 기 제작된 합성기둥을 현장에서 연결하여 완성하는 조립식 합성교각의 내진거동을 조사하였다. 정적반복가력실험 결과, 조립식 합성교각의 내진성능은 내진설계가 된 철근콘크리트 교각에 비해 전반적으로 우수한 것으로 나타났다.

Analysis of underground post-tensioned precast concrete box utility tunnel under normal fault displacement

  • For long underground box utility tunnels, post-tensioned precast concrete is often used. Between precast tunnel segments, sealed waterproof flexible joints are often specified. Fault displacement can lead to excessive deformation of the joints, which can lead to reduction in waterproofing due to diminished contact pressure between the sealant strip and the tunnel segment. This paper authenticates utilization of a finite element model for a prefabricated tunnel fault-crossing founded on ABAQUS software. In addition, material parameter selection, contact setting and boundary condition are reviewed. Analyzed under normal fault action are: the influence of fault displacement; buried depth; soil friction coefficient, and angle of crossing at the fault plane. In addition, distribution characteristics of the utility tunnel structure for vertical and longitudinal/horizontal relative displacement at segmented interface for the top and bottom slab are analyzed. It is found that the effect of increase in fault displacement on the splice joint deformation is significant, whereas the effects of changes in burial depth, pipe-soil friction coefficient and fault-crossing angle on the overall tunnel and joint deformations were not so significant.

  • This is to report a case of surgical and orthodontic of posterior scissor bite, deep bite and gummy smile by the segmental osteotomies. The surgical thechnics procedures used are Peterson's mandibular posterior segmental osteotomy, modified $K{\ddot{o}}le$ technic for mandibular anterior segment and Wunderer's maxillary anterior segmental osteotomy. The results are as follows : 1) Peterson's mandibular posterior segmental osteotomy could be achieved by the buccal approach with some difficulties in accessbility. 2) Upper and lower anterior segmental osteotomies were followed separately to correct the deep curve of Spee, deep bite and gummy smile in shortened period. 3) All alveolar segments were immobilized in preplanned position by the prefabricated palatal and lingual resin splint, therefore intermaxillary fixation was not necessary.

프리캐스트 중공 사각형 철근콘크리트 교각의 내진성능 (Seismic Performance of Hollow Rectangular Precast Segmental Piers)

  • 프리캐스트 중공 사각형 철근콘크리트 교각에 대하여 준정적 실험을 수행하여 내진성능을 검증하였다. 기둥 실험체는 프리캐스트 세그먼트를 접합하고 나서, 미리 배치된 쉬스관에 축방향 철근을 연결 없이 연속으로 배치한 후 모르타르로 그라우팅하는 방법으로 제작하였다. 실험의 주요변수는 형상비, 축방향 철근비, 횡방향 철근량, 프리캐스트 세그먼트의 접합위치이다. 기둥 실험체의 형상비는 4.5와 2.5, 축방향 철근비는 1.15%와 3.07%로 각각 두 가지의 값을 가진다. 횡방향 철근량은 도로교설계기준에서 규정하고 있는 완전연성 설계에 요구되는 양의 99%, 55%, 50%, 27%로 배근되었다. 소성힌지 구역에서의 프리캐스트 세그먼트 접합위치는 기둥 하단에서 기둥단면 두께의 0.5배와 1.0배인 위치로 하였다. 실험 결과로서 균열 및 파괴모드, 축력-휨 강도, 하중-변위 포락선, 변위연성도를 분석하였으며, 도로교설계기준의 연성도 내진설계법을 적용하였을 때의 안전율을 분석하였다. 기둥 실험체는 축방향 철근이 모르타르와 쉬스관에 의하여 구속되고, 쉬스관이 횡방향 철근으로 구속되는 구조로 인하여 큰 변위까지 축방향 철근의 좌굴이 지연되어 연성도가 크게 나타났다.

  • To overcome the limitations of conventional microsurgical tissue transfer, experimental creation of various neo-flaps using the vessel implantation technique has been reported. We have performed some experiments of fabrication of neo-osseous flap with local vessels and iliac bone slabs to know that the flap vascularity and neo-angiogenesis are achieved enough to microtransfer. As a next step of our previous experiments, the flap viability and the histologic change between the recipient bone and neo-oseous flap was assessed after microsurgical transplantation. The flap was created on the rabbit femoral region(n=25) using femoral vessel and the iliac bone segments($2.5{\times}1.5cm$ in size). Three weeks after neovascularization, the newly formed flap was harvested and microtransferred to the mandibular defect. As a control, contralateral mandibular defect was created and reconstructed with conventional free iliac bone graft. Scintigrams of experimental group performed 3 days after microtransfer showed hot uptake, while that of control poor uptake. Histologic and vital stain labeling study revealed good bone viability and vascularity of neo-osseous flap. In conclusion, prefabricated neo-osseous flap of our model could be transferred to the recipient site with retaining the flap viability and showed advantages over the conventional bone graft in that it was living bone graft.

중실원형단면 조립식 교각의 내진 성능 평가 (Evaluation of Seismic Performance of Prefabricated Bridge Piers with a Circular Solid Section)

  • 건설여건의 변화에 따라 교량구조물의 급속시공에 대한 요구가 늘어나고 있다. 이 논문에서는 하부구조에서 교각의 프리캐스트화를 위한 준정적 실험을 수행하였다. 프리캐스트 프리스트레스트 콘크리트 교각 설계의 가장 주요한 항목이 내진성능의 확보에 있다. 7개의 프리캐스트 교각을 제작하였고 주요 실험변수는 긴장재의 양, 프리스트레스트의 크기, 이음부의 위치 및 수로 설정하였다. 실험결과 축방향으로 도입되는 프리스트레스에 의해 작은 횡변위하에서는 일부 손상이 발생하여도 변형의 복원력을 발휘하였지만 소성힌 지구간의 손상이 많은 경우에는 이러한 복원력이 효과를 발휘하지 못하는 것을 확인하였다. 실험을 통해 관찰된 손상의 형태로부터 판단할 때 조립식 교각의 이음부 설계는 기초부와 교각부 사이의 이음부에 대해서 실시되어야한다. 축방향 긴장재의 양은 RC 교각과 강재비를 일치시키는 것은 지나친 설계가 될 수 있고 주어진 하중조건에 대한 P-M 상관도를 만족시키는 수준에서 결정되어야 한다. 변위연성도 평가를 볼 때 프리캐스트 교각에서 횡철근비는 현재의 철근 콘크리트 교각과 동일한 수준에서 확보되어야 요구연성도를 만족할 수 있다. 에너지 소산능력은 강재비가 증가함에 따라 향상되었고 이음부의 수가 많은 경우가 다소 뛰어난 능력을 발휘하였다.
