$\alpha$-Alumna particles were prepared by a precipitation method with metal fluoride additive. Aluminum nitrate and ammonia solution were used as starting materials. $AlF_3$, $CaF_2$, and $MnF_2$ were utilized as additives. The effects of precipitation solvent and metal fluoride on the phase transformation temperature, size and morphology of $\alpha$-alumna particles were investigated. The solvent for precipitation did not affect the phase transformation temperature, while it influenced the size of $\alpha$-alumna particles. The phase transformation temperature to $\alpha$-alumna was reduced by addition of metal fluoride and was different with metal cation in metal fluoride ($AlF_3(800^{\circ}C)$ < $MnF_2(900^{\circ}C)$ < $CaF_2(950^{\circ}C)$). The addition of each of three metal fluorides led to the formation of platelike particles and, among the three additives, $MnF_2$ additive resulted in the formation of relatively small particle.
A Study on the recovery of the valuable metals(Vanadium Molybdenium) was carried out using spent catalysts originated from desulfurizing process of oil refinery. Experiments consisted of pre-roasting for Sulfur and Carbon removal, soda roasting and leaching for the extraction of valuable metals, and selective precipitation of Vanadium and Molybdenium. Effects of temperature and time in roasting for Sulfur removal, of $Na_2CO_3$ concentrations in soda roasting, and of pulp density, temperature and time in leaching were investigated for the recovery of Vanadium and Molybdenium. A optimum condition having over 85% in yield of Vanadium and Molybdenium was found. In the selective precipitation, more than 98% of Vanadium and Molybdenium were obtained by the variation of pH and concentration of additives.
Even though the tarnishing and corrosion problems characteristic with dental silver-palladium alloy are not yet fully solved, it is recently widely used because of its low cost. However the effects of major alloying elements on the various properties of this system are not fully understood. The object of this research is to clarify the effects of In and Zn additives on the corrosion and tarnishing resistances and precipitation hardening behavior of this sytem, using electrodynamic polarization, immersion, and Vicker's microhardness test and X-ray diffraction and electron probe micro analysis methods. The obtained results were as follows: I. As indium content is increased, both the corrosion resistance in Cl-solution and microhardness are also increased while the tarnishing resistance is decreased. 2. As Zinc content is increased, the corrosion resistance is decreased, but tarnishing resistance is increased 3. At 70Ag-25Pd-2.5Zn-2.5In composition, the precipitation harding behavior was mot significant. The optimum aging temperature was $450^{\circ}C$ and the time was 2 hrs. The resulting specimen of this work carried 180VHN. 4. Under the heat treatment, the changes in the mechanical property are due to the changes in the shape and composition of dendrite matrix, namely, it is because of the precipitation hardening behavior which has been proved by electron probe micro analysis and optical microscopic finding.

The Powder characteristics and sintering behavior of $SiO_2$ coated $BaTiO_3$ were studied. $BaTiO_3$ powders were synthesized by the liquid mix method developed by Pechini, and silica coating was prepared by alkoxide hydrolysis method with TEOS and ethanol. The particle size of the $BaTiO_3$ powders was 35 nm and the thickness of the $SiO_2$ coating layer was 5 nm. As the $SiO_2$ content increased, the $SiO_2$ layers improved the powder dispersion by increasing electrostatic repulsion between the $BaTiO_3$ particles. Effects of MgO coating on microstructure and dielectric properties of $BaTiO_3$ have been studied compared with mechanically MgO mixed $BaTiO_3$. MgO coated $BaTiO_3$ particles were prepared by a homogeneous precipitation method using $MgCl_2\cdot 6H_2O$ and urea. MgO coated $BaTiO_3$ exhibited homogeneous microstructure compared with mixed samples. XRD analysis revealed that Mg substitution for the Ti site in the MgO mixed sample was much greater than in the coated one. Electrical properties of MgO mixed and coated $BaTiO_3$ were affected by the diffusion behavior of Mg in $BaTiO_3$ lattice.
Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (Nps), composed of magnetite, $Fe_3O_4$, or maghemite, ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$, core and biocompatible polymer shell, such as dextran or chitozan, have recently found wide applications in magnetic resonance imaging, contrast enhancement and hyperthermia therapy. For different diagnostic and therapeutic applications, current attempt is focusing on the synthesis and biomedical applications of various ferrite Nps, such as $CoFe_2O_4$ and $MnFe_2O_4$, differing from iron oxide Nps in charge, surface chemistry and magnetic properties. This study is focused on the synthesis of manganese ferrite, $MnFe_2O_4$, Nps by most commonly used chemical way pursuing better control of their size, purity and magnetic properties. Co-precipitation syntheses were performed using aqueous alkaline solutions of Mn(II) and Fe(III) salts and NaOH within a wide pH range using various hydrothermal treatment regimes. Different additives, such as citric acid, cysteine, glicine, polyetylene glycol, triethanolamine, chitosan, etc., were tested on purpose to obtain good yield of pure phase and monodispersed Nps with average size of ${\leq}20nm$. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), $M\ddot{o}ssbauer$ spectroscopy down to cryogenic temperatures, magnetic measurements and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry were employed in this study.
In the present work, we address the new route for the green synthesis of manganese dioxide (MnO2) by an innovative method named the solution plasma process (SPP). The reaction mechanism of both colloidal and nanostructured MnO2 was investigated. Firstly, colloidal MnO2 was synthesized by plasma discharging in KMnO4 aqueous solution without any additives such as reducing agents, acids, or base chemicals. As a function of the discharge time, the purple color solution of MnO4- (oxidation state +7) was changed to the brown color of MnO2 (oxidation state +4) and then light yellow of Mn2+ (oxidation state +2). Based on the UV-vis analysis we found the optimal discharging time for the synthesis of stable colloidal MnO2 and also reaction mechanism was verified by optical emission spectroscopy (OES) analysis. Secondly, MnO2 nanoparticles were synthesized by SPP with a small amount of reducing sugar. The precipitation of brown color was observed after 8 min of plasma discharge and then completely separated into colorless solution and precipitation. It was confirmed layered type of nanoporous birnessite-MnO2 by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and electron microscopes. The most important merits of this approach are environmentally friendly process within a short time compared to the conventional method. Moreover, the morphology and the microstructure could be controllable by discharge conditions for the appropriate potential applications, such as secondary batteries, supercapacitors, adsorbents, and catalysts.

Negative electrode was prepared by mixing $Ti_{0.7}Zr_{0.3}Cr_{0.3}Mn_{0.3}V_{0.6}Ni_{0.8}$ alloy powder with copper or nickel powder and pressing in the air. The cycled electrodes were analyzed with SEM, potentiostat and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. It was found that the Cu-compacted electrode showed better low temperature dischargeability and higher rate capability than Ni-compacted electrode. From SEM analysis of the cycled electrode compacted with copper powder, it was observed that the surface of MH particles was covered with copper grains and whisker precipitated from electrolyte after dissolution during cell test. It is found that the improved electrode characteristics are attributed to the copper layer on MH particles deposited by dissolution and precipitation(DP) process.
A study has been made on the recovery of nitric acid and valuable metals such as Cu, Sn, Pb from the spent nitric etching solutions. The nitric acid was extracted effectively by TBP but the heavy metals such as Fe, Cu, Sn, Pb were not extracted by TBP from the spent nitric etching solutions. From the experimental results, 95% of nitric acid in spent etching solution was extracted at O:A ratio of 3:1 with five stage by 60% TBP and 98% of nitric acid was stripped from the loaded organic phase at O:A ratio of 1:1 with four stages by distilled water. After extracting nitric acid, Cu was recovered as a metal by electrowinning effectively and Sn was successfully removed by precipitation method by adjusting the pH of raffinate solution. Finally, Pb was recovered by cementation with iron scrap at $65^{\circ}C$. Parameters controlling the cementation process, such as temperature, pH and the effect of the additives were investigated.

This study investigates the current status and dyeing properties of various natural indigo powder dyes in the domestic market. Products from India, China, Europe are sold in the market and only a few manufacturers provide recommendation for the method of dyeing and information on the additives. Through the market research and the preliminary investigation on 21 products, 11 were selected for the dyeing experiment which include 3 Indian, 3 Chinese, 2 German, and 1 Pakistani origin indigo reduced powders, and 2 Indian origin dried indigo leaf powder. The two dyeing methods used were the precipitation method and the fresh juice method, both at $10^{\circ}C$, $25^{\circ}C$, and $60^{\circ}C$. Color difference, K/S value, and colorfastness of dyed cotton fabrics were examined. Indian reduced indigo powder showed the highest K/S value, deep dyeing, and the best color fastness. Chinese reduced indigo powder resulted in a more greenish and bluish color. Powders of dried indigo leaves were easy to use but resulted in a pale color due to low dye uptake.
