By designing the gradient pulses to be velocity compensated during one pulse cycle in SSFP (steady state free precession) imaging, the flowing spins can be maintained in the steady state. In the new SSFP sequence the flow signal which might be lost in conventional SSFP imaging sequences can be restored owing to the signal contribution from the preceding pulse cycles. By using the proposed SSFP sequence substantial restoration of the flow signal has been observed for the CSF (cerebro spinal fluid) of the human head.
A massive envelope and a strong bipolar outflow are the two most distinct structures of youngest protostellar systems. We present observational results from the Combined Array for Research in Millimeter-wave Astronomy (CARMA) toward the youngest (Class 0) protostellar system L1157. At an angular resolution of 5 arcseconds, we mapped its well-developed outflow in CO 2-1 over a span of approximately 5 arcminutes. Additionally, we imaged the central envelope with CO isotopes, CS, CN, and N2H+ with an angular resolution of about 2 arcseconds. We show that the bipolar outflow may be represented with a two jet model and constrain its physical properties such as precession/rotation directions, velocities, inclinations, and position angles via cube data fitting. In addition, we discuss the kinematic features of the envelope detected in CO isotopes and N2H+ and present the radius-dependent dust opacity spectral index.

Spin injection from a ferromagnet into an n-doped $In_{0.53}Ga_{0.47}As$ channel was electrically detected by a ferromagnetic detector. At T = 20 K, using non-local and local spin-valve measurements, a non-local signal of $2\;{\mu}V$ and a local spin valve signal of 0.041% were observed when the bias current was 1 mA. The band calculation and Shubnikov-de Haas oscillation measurement in a bulk channel showed that the gate controlled spin-orbit interaction was not large enough to control the spin precession but it could be a worthy candidate for a logic device using spin accumulation and diffusion.
Theory of the generation linewidth of a current-driven spin-torque magnetic nano-oscillator in the presence of thermal fluctuations has been developed and a simple analytical formula for the generation linewidth in the supercritical regime of generation has been derived. It is shown that the strong dependence of the oscillator frequency on the precession power leads to substantial broadening of the generation linewidth of a spin-torque oscillator compared to the case of a linear oscillator, i.e. an oscillator with power-independent generation frequency. The relation between the nonlinearity-induced broadening of the generation linewidth and the nonlinearity-induced increase of the phase-locking band of a spin-torque oscillator to an external microwave signal has been revealed. The derived expression for the generation linewidth predicts a linewidth minimum when the nano-contact is magnetized at a certain angle to its plane, at which the nonlinear frequency shift vanishes. This result is in good agreement with recent experiments.
Being a torque free motion of the rotating Earth, Chandler wobble is the major component in the Earth's polar motion with amplitude about 0.05-0.2 arcsec and period about 430-435 days. Free core nutation, also called nearly diurnal free wobble, exists due to the elliptical core-mantle boundary in the Earth and takes almost the whole part of un-modelled variation of the Earth's pole in the celestial sphere beside precession and nutation. We hereby present a brief summary of their theories and report their recent features acquired from updated datasets (EOP C04 and ECMWF) by using Fourier transform, modelling, and wavelet analysis. Our new findings include (1) period-instability of free core nutation between 420 and 450 days as well as its large amplitude-variation, (2) re-determined Chandler period and its quality factor, (3) fast decrease in Chandler amplitude after 2010.
MRCP는 reverse fast imaging with a steady-state free precession(reverse FISP:PSIF) 기법을 이용하여 얻어낸 후 MIP algorithm을 이용하여 재구성하였다.
Objective: To investigate the feasibility of cine three-dimensional (3D) balanced steady-state free precession (b-SSFP) imaging combined with a non-local means (NLM) algorithm for image denoising in evaluating cardiac function in children with repaired tetralogy of Fallot (rTOF). Materials and Methods: Thirty-five patients with rTOF (mean age, 12 years; range, 7-18 years) were enrolled to undergo cardiac cine image acquisition, including two-dimensional (2D) b-SSFP, 3D b-SSFP, and 3D b-SSFP combined with NLM. End-diastolic volume (EDV), end-systolic volume (ESV), stroke volume (SV), and ejection fraction (EF) of the two ventricles were measured and indexed by body surface index. Acquisition time and image quality were recorded and compared among the three imaging sequences. Results: 3D b-SSFP with denoising vs. 2D b-SSFP had high correlation coefficients for EDV, ESV, SV, and EF of the left (0.959-0.991; p < 0.001) as well as right (0.755-0.965; p < 0.001) ventricular metrics. The image acquisition time ± standard deviation (SD) was 25.1 ± 2.4 seconds for 3D b-SSFP compared with 277.6 ± 0.7 seconds for 2D b-SSFP, indicating a significantly shorter time with the 3D than the 2D sequence (p < 0.001). Image quality score was better with 3D b-SSFP combined with denoising than with 3D b-SSFP (mean ± SD, 3.8 ± 0.6 vs. 3.5 ± 0.6; p = 0.005). Signal-to-noise ratios for blood and myocardium as well as contrast between blood and myocardium were higher for 3D b-SSFP combined with denoising than for 3D b-SSFP (p < 0.05 for all but septal myocardium). Conclusion: The 3D b-SSFP sequence can significantly reduce acquisition time compared to the 2D b-SSFP sequence for cine imaging in the evaluation of ventricular function in children with rTOF, and its quality can be further improved by combining it with an NLM denoising method.
Controlling and sensing spin states of magnetic molecules such as metallo-porphyrins at the single molecule level is essential for spintronic molecular device applications. Axial coordinations of diatomic molecules to metallo-porphyrins also play key roles in dynamic processes of biological functions such as blood pressure control and immune response. However, probing such reactions at the single molecule level to understand their physical mechanisms has been rarely performed. Here we present on our single molecule association and dissociation experiments between diatomic and metallo-porphyrin molecules on Au(111) describing its adsorption structures, spin states, and dissociation mechanisms. We observed bright ring shapes in NO adsorbed metallo-porphyrin compelxes and explained them by considering tilted binding and precession motion of NO. Before NO exposure, Co-porphryin showed a clear zero-bias peak in scanning tunneling spectroscopy, a signature of Kondo effect in STS, whereas after NO exposures it formed a molecular complex, NO-Co-porphyrin, that did not show any zero-bias feature implying that the Kondo effect was switched off by binding of NO. Under tunneling junctions of scanning tunneling microscope, both positive and negative energy pulses. From the observed power law relations between dissociation rate and tunneling current, we argue that the dissociations were inelastically induced with molecular orbital resonances. Our study shows that single molecule association and dissociation can be used to probe spin states and reaction mechanisms in a variety of axial coordination between small molecules and metallo-porphyrins.
