  • The synthetic aperture radar(SAR) is an equipment that can acquire images in all weathers day and night based on radar signals. The on-board processor of satellite SAR generates transmission signal by digital signal processing, converts it into an analog signal and transmits to antenna. Until the transmission signal generated by on-board processor is output, the signal passes the transmission cables and analog devices. At this time, these hardware distort the signal and makes SAR performance worse. To improve the performance, pre-distortion technique is used. But, general pre-distortion using taylor series is not sufficient to compensate for the distortion. This paper suggests transmit signal design method with improved pre-distortion. This paper uses envelop sampling method and interpolation filter for frequency domain compensation. The proposed method accurately compensates the hardware distortion and reduces resource usage of FPGA. To analyze proposed method's performance, IRF characteristics are compared when the proposed method applies to signal with errors.

  • OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) signals sutler serious nonlinear distortion in the nonlinear HPA(High Power Amplifier) because of high PAPR(Peak Average Power Ratio). Nonlinear distortion can be improved by a pre-distorter, but this pre-distorter is insufficient when the PAPR is very high in an OPFDM system. In this paper, a DFT(Discrete Fourier Transform) transform technique is introduced for PAPR reduction. It is especially important to consider the memory effect of HPA for more precise predistortion. Therefore, in this paper, we consider two models, the TWTA(Traveling-Wave Tube Amplifier) model of Saleh without a memory effect and the HPA memory polynomial model that has a memory effect. We design a pre-distorter and an adaptive pre-distorter that uses the NLMS(Normalized Least Mean Square) algorithm for the compensation of this nonlinear distortion. Without the consideration of a memory effect, the system performance would be degraded, even if the pre-distorter is used for the compensation of the nonlinear distortion. From the simulation results, we can confirm that the proposed system shows an improvement in performance.

  • We propose a method for driving loudspeakers from class D audio power amplifiers in current mode, instead of in conventional voltage mode, which was impossible with the feedback circuitry. Unlike analog audio amplifiers, Class D audio power amplifiers have signal delay between the input and output signals, which makes it difficult to apply the feedback circuitry for current-mode driving. The idea of the pre-distortion scheme used for the compensation of the non-linearity of RF power amplifiers is adapted to remedy the impedance variation effect of the loudspeakers for current driving. The method uses the speaker model for the pre-distorter to compensate for the speaker impedance variation with frequency. The simulation and test results confirms the validity of the proposed method.

  • The high peak to average power ratio (PAPR) of OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) system introduces inevitable non-linear distortion in the transmission due to the amplifier non-linear property. This causes both in-band distortion and out of band spectrum re-growth. In this paper we tried to compensate the problem by using polynomial based pre-distortion. Estimation of both the non-linear and inverse non-linear polynomial is achieved using the Least Square Error (LSE) method. Using these parameters closed form pre-distorter can be easily created. We also used the 'partial peak cancellation and clipping' method to remove the high peak present in the non constant amplitude of the OFDM signal responsible to drive the amplifier in near saturation region for better performance of the system

  • Doherty amplifier has more efficiency and distortion than general amplifier. These distortion classified amplitude distortion and phase distortion, memory effect distortion. This paper reports on an attempt to investigate, model and quantity the contribution of the electrical nonlinearity effects and the thermal memory effects to a doherty amplifier's distortion generation and suggests thermal memory effect compensator for pre-distorter. Also this paper reports on the development of an accurate dynamic expression of the instantaneous junction temperature as a function of the instantaneous dissipated power. The parameters of suggested model suppress thermal memory effects doherty amplifier with pre-distorter. Pre-distorter with electrothermal memory effect compensator for doherty amplifier enhanced ACLR performance about 22 dB than general doherty amplifier. Experiment results were mesured by 50W LDMOS Doherty amplifier and pre-distorter with electrothermal memory effect compensator was simulated by ADS.

  • Underwater photographing and image recording are essential for pre-excavation survey and during excavation in underwater archaeology. Unlike photographing on land, all underwater images suffer various quality degradations such as shape distortions, color shift, blur, low contrast, high noise levels and so on. Outcome is very often heavily photographing equipment and photographer dependent. Excavation schedule, weather conditions, and water conditions can put burdens on divers. Usable images are very limited compared to the efforts. In underwater archaeological study in very turbid water such as in the Yellow Sea (between mainland China and the Korean peninsula), underwater photographing is very challenging. In this study, off-site image distortion and color compensation techniques using an image processing/analysis software is investigated as an alternative image quality enhancement method. As sample images, photographs taken during the excavation of 800-year-old Taean Mado Shipwrecks in the Yellow Sea in 2008-2010 were mainly used. Significant enhancement in distortion and color compensation of archived images were obtained by simple post image processing using image processing/analysis software (PicMan) customized for given view ports, lenses and cameras with and without optical axis offsets. Post image processing is found to be very effective in distortion and color compensation of both recent and archived images from various photographing equipment models and configurations. Merits and demerit of in-situ, distortion and color compensated photographing with sophisticated equipment and conventional photographing equipment, which requires post image processing, are compared.

  • In this paper, we designed and manufactured the distortion-cancellation module which is able to compensate thermal-noise distortion by software. The distortion-cancellation algorithm not only bring forth system non-linear distortion by input level but also bring compensate component of distortion by thermal to get rid off distortion from now on. After TMS 320C6711 DSP to recognize our algorithm, we manufactured the module for every kinds of system. To evaluate efficiency of the distortion-cancellation module, we designed and manufactured communication system. By measured result, if system output power is -3dBm equally, 12dB of ACLR has improved in 1MHz away from a center frequency, and also gain has increased up to 0.5dB.

  • In this paper, it is attempted to apply the adaptive digital signal processing to compensate for a linear distortion of a loudspeaker and implement a real time hardware for that purpose. The real time system is implemented by using the DSP56001, a general purpose signal processor, as a host processor and the DSP56200, a cascadable adaptive FIR filter peripheral chip, as an adaptive digital filter. The system has 1000 taps at a 44.1kHz. After inverse modeling of under_compensation_speaker, the system reduces loudspeaker's linear distortions by pre-processing an input audio signal to loudspeaker. The experiment shows satisfactory results; after adaption with white noise as input signal for 60sec, the flat amplitude and linear phase frequency characteristics is found to lie over a wide frequency range of 100Hz to 20kHz.

  • In this paper, we propose a pre-distortion method using the NLMS(Normalized Least Mean Square) algorithm to cope with hish PAPR(Peak to Average Power Ratio) problem in OFDM communication system. This proposed scheme estimates the distortion characteristics of HPA, and changes the characteristic against the distortion. Therefore, it can be shown that the adaptive characteristic of the NLMS pre-distorter is good to track the various nonlinear characteristic of HPA, even though HPA characteristic is changed by temperature variation or aging. From the performance analysis, SNR efficiency of NLMS pre-distorter is about $0.5\;\cal{dB}$ less than that of common numerical non-adaptive pre-distorter, when IBO(Input Back Off) is $0\;\cal{dB}$. However, the NLMS pre-distorter is better than the common numerical pre-distorter, because these two pre-distorters have similar performance in higher than $3\;\cal{dB}$ IBO, and the NLMS pre-distorter maintains the constant performance even though characteristic of HPA is changed.

  • We propose a diode-based RF pre-distorter with various gain and phase characteristics, for non-linearity compensation of RF power amplifiers. This pre-distorter results in the removal of the diode- and configuration-dependent characteristics in the conventional diode-based RF pre-distorters. We have analyzed the operation principle of the proposed pre-distorter. The results show that gain and phase characteristics of the pre-distorter in all four quadrants are achieved. Several power amplifiers and test signals are used for verifying the performance of the proposed diode-based RF pre-distorter.
