The purpose of this study was to determine whether the application of chlorhexidine varnish affects the shear bond strength and failure pattern of orthodontic brackets or not. The experimental group consisted of 22 human premolars which extracted after chlorhexidine varnish application (4 times for 1 week interval) in vivo, and the control group consisted of 22 human premolars which extracted without any pre-treatment. After all teeth were etched with $37\%$ phosphoric acid gel, metal orthodontic brackets (Q-3002, RMO, USA) were bonded to each tooth using auto-polymerizing orthodontic resin (Ortho-One, Bisco, USA) with the same bonding procedure. The shear bond strength was measured with Instron universal testing machine (model 4466, Instron Ltd., England), and the failure pattern of each bracket was examined with Scanning Electron Microscope (SM 840A, JEOL, Japan). The data were analysed statistically with t-test. The results were as follows : 1. Application of chlorhexidine varnish had no significant effect on the shear bond strength of the orthodontic bracket. 2. There was no significant difference in the failure pattern of orthodontic bracket between the experimental group and the control group.
The PAN (Polyacrylonitrile) based carbon fiber-ceramic composites (CFCC) were prepared from mixtures of short carbon fibers, phenolic resin and ceramic binder. The effects of carbonization temperature of a pre-cursor fiber, the stabilized PAN fiber, on the specific surface area and the bending strength of the activated CFCC were studied in this work. The precursor fiber was carbonized at 80$0^{\circ}C$ and 100$0^{\circ}C$, respectively. The CFCC were activated at 85$0^{\circ}C$ in carbon dioxide for 10~90 minutes. As the burn-off of the activated CFCC made of the precursor fiber carbonized at 80$0^{\circ}C$ was increased from 37% to 76%, the specific surface area in-creased from 493m2/g to 1090m2/g, and the bending strength decreased from 4.5MPa to 1.4MPa. These values were about two times larger than those of the activated CFCC of which precursor fiber was car-bonized at 100$0^{\circ}C$. The effects of carbonization temperature of a precursor fiber on the specific surface area and bending strength of the activated CCFC were explained by bonding force between carbon fiber and car-bonized phenolic resin as well as by relative shirnkage between carbon fiber and ceramic film.

With the purpose of evaluating the effect of ailing amount of pit and assure sealants on the microleakage, 6 groups of specimens with different filling amount, filling materials and surface pretreatment were investigated. Sixty permanent third molars were divided into three groups. The occlusal surface of each tooth was divided into two parts; the filing width of one part was below 1mm (group1, 3, 5), and in the other part more than 2mm (group 2, 4, 6) Group 1 and 2: Helioseal F was applied directly to etched enamel; Group 3 and 4: Helioseal F was applied to etched and scotchbond Multi-purpose plus pre-treated enamel; Group 5 and 6: Tetric Flow was applied. After 500 times thermocycling and dye infiltration, we evaulated the microleakage. The results were as follows; 1. The mean microleakage score at each width were increased in the following order;group 5<3<1, and group 6<4<2. 2. In comparing the groups with same material and surface pretreatment but with different filling width (group 1 versus 2, 3 versus 4, 5 versus 6), the microleakage scores were significantly different. 3 The microleage was affected by filling amount of pit and assure sealants than Oiling materials and dentin bonding agent pretreatment.

Thin electric insulation layers were coated on aluminum plates and aluminum condenser cases by plasma polymerization of HMDSO+$O_2$. Electric resistances of the films were higher than 1.0 M$\Omega$ if they are thicker than 0.5 ${\mu}m$ independently of the type of films but their surface morphologies and adhesion strengths were dependent on the process conditions. Deposition rate and adhesion strength of the films were dependent on $O_2$/HMDSO flow ratio and discharge power. The best result was obtained at $O_2$/HMDSO flow ratio of 4 and discharge power of 60 W. Adhesion strength could also be highly improved if aluminum was pre-treated in boiling water for 30 min through the formation of Al-O-Si bonding between the film and the aluminum surface. The coated films showed excellent chemical and thermal resistances.
Fluorinated amorphous carbon (a-C:F) films were prepared by an electron cyclotron resonance chemical vapor deposition (ECRCVD) system using a gas mixture of $C_2F_6$ and $CH_4$ over a range of deposition temperature (room temperature ~ 300$^{\circ}C$). 500$^{\AA}C$ thick DLC films were pre-deposited on Si substrate to improve the strength between substrate and a-C:F film. The chemical bonding structure, chemical composition, surface roughness and dielectric constant of a-C:F films deposited by varying the deposition temperature were studied with a variety of techniques, such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and capacitance-voltage(C-V) measurement. Both deposition rate and fluorine content decreased linearly with increasing deposition temperature. As the deposition temperature increased from room temperature to 300$^{\circ}C$, the fluorine concentration decreased from 53.9at.% down to 41.0at.%. The dielectric constant increased from 2.45 to 2.71 with increasing the deposition temperature from room temperature to 300$^{\circ}C$. The film shrinkage was reduced with increasing deposition temperature. This results ascribed by the increased crosslinking in the films at the higher deposition temperature.
This study discussed the trend and future strategy of adsorption technology R&D to effectively recover ammonia emitted from the livestock fields. A proper ammonia adsorbent should incorporate acidic or hydrogen bonding functional groups on the surface, as well as a high specific surface area and a good surface structure appropriate for ammonia adsorption. Activated carbon and minerals such as zeolite have widely been used as ammonia adsorbents, but their adsorption effects are generally low, so any improvement through surface modification should be necessary. For example, incorporation of metal chloride included in a porous adsorbent can promote ammonia adsorption effectiveness. Recently, new types of adsorbents such as MOFs (Metal-Organic Frameworks) and POPs (Porous Organic Polymers) have been developed and utilized. They have shown very high ammonia adsorption capacity because of adjustable and high specific surface area and porosity. In addition, Prussian Blue exhibited high ammonia adsorption and desorption performance and selectivity. This looks relatively advantageous in relation to the recovery of ammonia from livestock waste discharge. In the future, further research should be made to evaluate ammonia adsorption/desorption efficiency and purity using various adsorbents under conditions suitable for livestock sites. Also, effective pre- and/or post-treatment processes should be integrated to maximize ammonia recovery.
Objectives: This study examined the effect of the uncured dentin adhesives on the bond interface between the resin inlay and dentin. Materials and Methods: Dentin surface was exposed in 24 extracted human molars and the teeth were assigned to indirect and direct resin restoration group. For indirect resin groups, exposed dentin surfaces were temporized with provisional resin. The provisional restoration was removed after 1 wk and the teeth were divided further into 4 groups which used dentin adhesives (OptiBond FL, Kerr; One-Step, Bisco) with or without light-curing, respectively (Group OB-C, OB-NC, OS-C and OS-NC). Pre-fabricated resin blocks were cemented on the entire surfaces with resin cement. For the direct resin restoration groups, the dentin surfaces were treated with dentin adhesives (Group OB-D and OS-D), followed by restoring composite resin. After 24 hr, the teeth were assigned to microtensile bond strength (${\mu}TBS$) and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), respectively. Results: The indirect resin restoration groups showed a lower ${\mu}TBS$ than the direct resin restoration groups. The ${\mu}TBS$ values of the light cured dentin adhesive groups were higher than those of the uncured dentin adhesive groups (p < 0.05). CLSM analysis of the light cured dentin adhesive groups revealed definite and homogenous hybrid layers. However, the uncured dentin adhesive groups showed uncertain or even no hybrid layer. Conclusions: Light-curing of the dentin adhesive prior to the application of the cementing material in luting a resin inlay to dentin resulted in definite, homogenous hybrid layer formation, which may improve the bond strength.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the resistance to degradation of four commercial composite resins in an alkaline solution. The brands studied were Unifil(GC, Japan), Palfique(Tokuyama Japan). Definite$Degussa-H\ddot{u}ls$ AG, Germany). Revolution(Kerr, U.S.A.). Preweighed discs of each brand were exposed 0.1N NaOH solution at $60^{\circ}C$. After 14 days they were removed, neutralized with HCl, washed with water and dried. Resistance to degradation was evaluated on the basis of following parameters: (a) mass loss(%) - determined from pre-and post-exposed specimen weights; (b) Si loss(ppm) - obtained from ICP-AE analysis of solution exposed to specimens; and (c) degradation depth$({\mu}m)$ - measured microscopically (SEM) from polished circular sections of exposed specimens. The results were follows: 1. The mass loss of Unifil was 3.21%, it was the highest of materials. But, there was no significant difference among the materials. 2. The degree of degradation layer depth was $107.69\sim47.40{\mu}m$, the sequence of the degree pf degradation layer depth was in descending order by Unifil, Palfique, Revolution, Definite. There was significant difference among the materials except Palfique and Definite. 3. The Si loss of Paltique was 8940.0ppm, it was the highest. There was significant difference among the materials, except Revolution and Definite(p<0.05). 4. The correlation coefficient between mass loss and degradation depth was relatively high(r = 0.06, p<0.05). 5. There was no significant coefficient correlation between Si loss and mass loss, and/or the degree of degradation layer depth and Si loss. 6. When observed with SEM, destruction of bonding is observed between resin matrix and filler. Above results suggested that the hydrolytic degradation is considered as evaluation factor of composite resins.

The use of resin composites has continued to increase over the last several years. In spite of their growing popularity, composites continue to exhibit a number of undesirable characteristics. One of the major deficiencies of composite restorative resins is their inadequate resistance to wear. Of the multitude of factors that have been associated with wear, subsurface degradation within the restoration is considered to be one. The aim of this study was to evaluate the resistance to degradation of four commercial composite resins in an alkaline solution. This solution with a high concentration of hydroxyl ions is a convenient medium for accelerated degradation of silane coupling and filler particles. The brands studies were Definite($Degussa-H\ddot{u}ls$ AG, Germany), Prodigy(Kerr, USA), Pyramid(Bisco, USA) and Synergy(Coltene, Swiss). Preweighed discs of each brand were exposed to 0.1N NaOH solution at $60^{\circ}C$. After 14 days they were removed, neutralized with HCl, washed with water and dried. Resistance to degradation was evaluated on the basis of following parameters : (a) mass loss(%)-determined from pre-and post-exposed specimen weights : (b) Si loss(ppm)-obtained from ICP-AE analysis of solution exposed to specimens; and (c) degradation $depth({\mu}m)$-measured microscopically (SEM) from polished circular sections of exposed specimens. The results were follows: 1. Mass loss of Synergy was $1.24{\pm}0.002%$, it was the highest, there was no significant difference among the materials. 2. The degree of degradation layer depth of Synergy was $107.83{\pm}2.52{\mu}m$, it was the highest, there was no significant difference among any other materials than Synergy. 3. There was no difference among the four materials in Si loss. 4. The correlation coefficient between mass loss and degradation depth was relatively high(r=0.06, p<0.05). 5. There was no coefficient correlation between Si loss and mass loss, the degree of degradation layer depth and Si loss. 6. When observed with SEM, destruction of bonding is observed between resin matrix and filler.
This research is a study on the side framework structure of the hipped and gable roof of Muryangsujeon at Buseoksa Temple. There is a record that Muryangsujeon was deconstructed and repaired in the period of Japanese Occupancy, and its authenticity has continuously been called into question because the structure of the hipped and gable side roofs, and the bonding of the rafters and eaves were not in good order and very different from those of Joseon Dynasty. Scholars date it differently. It is either dated at 13th century or 12th century. This study compares the non-planar configuration of the middle and front proportions of Muryangsujeon's hipped-and-gable-roof framework with those of the Tang(唐) and Song(宋) Dynasties in China. It concludes that the hipped-and-gable-roof framework of those architecture were built with the same technique. The style of architecture that side rafters directly touch the internal security (梁), like in Muryangsujeon, is not usual even among the hipped and garble roofs of the Tang(唐) and Song(宋) Dynasties. The technique of constructing the hipped roofs developed much further after the Tang Dynasty because they began to use garble eaves to build the side structure. The technique seems to have developed greatly by the period of Ming and Qing Dynasties. It also seems that the parallel-flat (平行輻射椽) rafter, which is the form of rafters used between the parallelrafter period and the half-flat-rafter period is very similar to the construction style of the current rafters of Muryangsujeon. However, the Muryangsujeon's eaves do not touch the corner rafter from the middle part. This seems to be a unique style, which is not common in China. In conclusion, the style of the side roof framework of Muryangsujeon at Buseoksa Temple is not of the China's southern regions, but of the northern regions of Tang(唐), Song(宋) and Liao(遼) Dynasties. And when considering the construction year and proportions of the middle front and side front on the same flat, this must be an ancient technique of the northeastern regions of Asia. Since it is likely that the structure of the side roof framework of Muryangsujeon at Buseoksa Temple has not been altered but is a unique style of hipped and gable roofs, this roof can serve as a good guide to restoring the hipped and garble roofs of the pre-Goyreo Dynasty period.
