In railway bridges, various loads including train load, transverse load and braking force are applied to continuous CWR or semi-continuous longer rail located on non-continuous bridge superstructures. The rail-girder interaction due to thermal expansion is also very complex in railway bridges because the thermal characteristics for each of the rails and girder are quite different. Recently, the bridge retrofits for seismic loads were performed on bridges not designed for these loads. These retrofits may however have limitations with respect to rail-girder interactions because, in general these retrofits address issues related only to seismic loads. In this study of seismic evaluations for railway bridges, the load effects on the bridge rails from the road beds through the continuous rails shall be considered. Practical methods will be proposed which will increase the railway stability. For this, rail-girder interaction analyses due to train loads, temperature changes and seismic loads were performed and the results reviewed from a practical point of view.
The present study describes a practical estimation procedure about the pantograph under several severe aerodynamic load conditions. As the operating speed of the Korean Train Express(KTX) reaches 350km/h, structural safety at various conditions should be examined at the design stage. In the present study, a compact and reliable procedure is developed to get aerodynamic loads on each part of the pantograph regarding the typhoon condition, the train/tunnel interaction, the train/train interaction and the side wind condition. In the estimation procedure, 3-dimensional steady and unsteady CFD simulation around the high speed train facilitates assigning the external local flow condition around the pantograph. The procedure is verified using the results of the low speed wind tunnel test at JARI and applied to 7 flow conditions and 4 operation configurations.
In many practical applications of the centrifugal fan, the impeller-diffuser interaction noise is considered as a main source of fan noise. The housing for an electric motor is also expected to play an important role on noise propagation because of its complicated configuration. This study investigates the impeller-diffuser interaction noise and its sources by computing three-dimensional, incompressible flow field of the centrifugal fan in motor housing. The effect of motor case on fan noise characteristic is then investigated using the Brinkman penalization method, while the noise source associated with impeller-diffuser interaction is mathematically modeled. It is found that the present methodology combined with mathematical description of noise source provides a fairly good agreement with the experimental results, indicating that the motor housing has significant effect on noise characteristics. Finally, aeroacoustic noise prediction for various impeller-diffuser blade count ratios is conducted for noise reduction.
In this paper, the dynamic behavior for a group of transmission towers linked together through electrical wires and subjected to a strong ground motion will be investigated in detail. In performing the seismic analysis, the wires and the towers concerned are modeled, respectively, by using the efficient cable elements and the 3-D beam elements both considering geometric nonlinearities. In addition, to enhance the reliability and applicability of analytical outcome, a sophisticated soil-structure interaction model will be utilized in analyses. The strength capacities and the fracture occurrences for the main members of the tower are examined with the employment of the appropriate strength interaction equations. It is expected that by aid of this investigation, those who are engaged in code constitution or in practical designing of transmission towers may gain a better insight into the roles played by the interaction force between towers and wires and by the configurations of transmission lines under strong earthquake.

Understanding the effects of the parameters affecting the interaction of tandem hydrofoil system is a crucial subject in order to fully comprehend the aero/hydrodynamics of any vehicle moving inside a fluid. This study covers a parametric study on tandem hydrofoil interaction in both potential and viscous fluids using iterative Boundary Element Method (BEM) and RANSE. BEM allows a quick estimation of the flow around bodies and may be used for practical purposes to assess the interaction inside the fluid. The produced results are verified by conformal mapping and Finite Volume Method (FVM). RANSE is used for viscous flow conditions to assess the effects of viscosity compared to the inviscid solutions proposed by BEM. Six different parameters are investigated and they are the effects of distance, thickness, angle of attack, chord length, aspect ratio and tapered wings. A generalized 2-D code is developed implementing the iterative procedure and is adapted to generate results. Effects of free surface and cavitation are ignored. It is believed that the present work will provide insight into the parametric interference between hydrofoils inside the fluid.
This study reviews concepts, theories and formulas included in standards on soil-structure interaction and also shows practical example of application for engineers. Real structures are 3 dimensional and multi degree of freedom but they are often idealized to single degree of freedom for convenience. In this study, detailed procedures to calculate soil spring constants and damping coefficients and method to model soil-structure system are explained. Additionally, case studies to judge fixed base condition and evaluation of applicability of simple analysis method based on response spectra are performed.
As new car technology is developing, temporal interaction is needed in automotive. Rhythmic pattern is one of the practical examples of temporal interaction in vehicle. To recognize rhythmic pattern and its input medium, dictionary learning is applicable algorithm. In this paper, performance and memory requirement of the learning algorithm is tested and is sufficiently good for use this acoustic sound.
In this study, we developed an efficient in-service teachers training program, which could help the professional development of science gifted teachers. The characteristic feature of this in-service training program was to put great emphasis on interaction between fellow teachers. With this program, teachers could share their experiences and informations about gifted education. The program consisted of 4 interaction modules: 'the module of interaction at the pre-planning', 'the module of interaction in the small group', 'the module of interaction at the plan of application', 'the module of interaction at the practical exercise'. In this study, we analyzed the interaction between science gifted education teachers in 'the module of interaction at the pre-planning'. We analyzed the interaction between science gifted education teachers in 'the module of interaction at the pre-planning'. Each teachers got 17.2 correction opinions from peer teachers. They accepted 79.2% opinions among them and refused the other opinions (20.8% opinions). In the analysis of 'program process', the interactions for the improvement about 'the acquirements of knowledge and function' step were 41.9% and the interactions for the improvement about 'plan and exploration' step were 30.5%. In the analysis of 'program domain', the interactions about 'method of teaching and learning' were 41.9%. The interactions about 'program step' were 28.6% and the interactions about 'learning contentsh were 24.8%. With these results, we discussed the features of interaction between science gifted education teachers and proposed the improvement of in-service training program for elementary science gifted teachers.
