During recent years, the durability of concrete structures has been considered in concret practice and material research. To preserve the brittleness of concrete as well as energy absorption and impact resistance, amount of fiber usage has greatly increased in the field of public works. Ultra fine powder, silica fume, mixed into concrete, it reduce void of concrete structure. Especially, there's a great effect for strength improvement of concrete by initial pozzolanic reactions. For these reasons, if silica fume mixed into concrete, it decrease the total void by microfilter effect . Pozzolan reaction, between cement particle and silica powder, can elaborate the micro structure of matrix. And so, in this paper, we deal SFRC for the purpose of efficiently using of industrial by-products(silica fume). Also we performed the test for durability such as freeze-thaw resistance and accelerated carbonation of SFRC using silica fume.

During recent years the durability of concrete structures has attracted considerable interest in concrete practice, material research and long-term deformation. To preserve the brittleness of concrete as well as energy absorption and impact resistance, amount of fiber usage has greatly increased year to year in the field of public works. When fly ash, fine powder, mixed into concrete, it condensed the void of concrete structure. Expecially, there's a great effect for strength improvement of concrete by initial pozzolanic reactions. Pozzolan reaction, between cement particle and fly ash, can elaborate the micro structure of matrix. So it was able to improve the effect of fiber reinforced by increased adhesion between cement paste and steel fiber. And so, in this paper, we dealt SFRC for the purpose of efficiently using of industrial by-products and its economical manufacturing. Also we performed the test for durability such as chemical resistance, freeze-thaw resistance and accelerated carbonation of SFRC using fly ash.

Recently, there has been a growing interest in reducing greenhouse gases in all industrial fields. In the construction industry, studies have been conducted for the use of high-volume fly ash concrete to replace cement with fly ash. Quantitative measurements of cement hydration and fly ash reactivity enable a clear understanding of the strength development mechanism of high-volume fly ash concrete. It is very difficult to describe the reactivity in a simple way because the hydration and pozzolanic reactions of cement paste containing fly ash are very complex and the composition of the hydration product cannot be accurately determined. This study investigated the hydration and mechanical properties of high volume fly ash (HVFA) cement according to the substitution rate of fly ash (FA). The hydration degree of cement and the reactivity of FA were evaluated through the selective dissolution method and the non-evaporable water content of the paste according to age. In addition, compressive strength was measured using HVFA mortar specimens according to age. As a result of the experiment, as the substitution rate of fly ash increased, the hydration degree of cement increased, but the reactivity of FA decreased.
In recent years, the emergence of nanotechnology and nanomaterial has created hopes to improve various properties of concrete. Nano silica as one of these materials has been introduced as a cement replacement material for concrete mixture in construction applications. It can modify the properties of concrete, due to high pozzolanic reactions and also making a denser microstructure. On the other hand, it is well recognized that the use of mineral admixtures such as silica fume affects the mechanical properties and durability of cementitious materials. In addition, the superior performance of self-consolidating concrete (SCC) and self-consolidating mortars (SCM) over conventional concrete is generally related to their ingredients. This study investigates the effect of nano silica and silica fume on the compressive strength and chloride permeability of self-consolidating mortars. Tests include compressive strength, rapid chloride permeability test, water permeability, capillary water absorption, and surface electrical resistance, which carried out on twenty mortar mixtures containing zero to 6 percent of nano silica and silica fume. Results show that SCMs incorporating nano silica had higher compressive strength at various ages. In addition, results show that nano silica has enhanced the durability SCMs and reduced the chloride permeability.

The purpose of this paper is to propose an experimental method to evaluate the resistance of abrasion about 24 MPa, 27 MPa, and 30 MPa compressive strength. These strength are used in the design and construction of concrete hydraulic structures in Korea. The mixing ratios of the ready mixed concrete strengths were investigated countrywide and set the representative mixture proportion ratios of the nine mixed types of OPC, FA and BFS. After making and curing the test specimens, the underwater abrasion test was performed. ASTM C 1138 International Standard was used to fabricate the test equipment, and the surface abrasion resistance of the specimen was tested using the test equipment. In the case of OPC, the 30% abrasion resistance improvement effect was observed at 72 hours as the water-binder ratio decreased. That was reason the coated cement bond strength of the specimen was strong. In the case of BFS and FA, it was improved by 9.9% and 3.8%, respectively, at 72 hours as the water-binder ratio decreased. It was due to the characteristics of the latent hydraulic and pozzolanic reactions. Generally, the relative abrasion resistance of concrete can be evaluated at 24 hours. However, in case of low strength (under 24 MPa), the surface mortar layer wears much faster at the first 12 hours, so it can be considered to evaluate the relative abrasion loss rate at this point.

Fly ash can significantly improve concrete workability and performance, and recycling fly ash in concrete can contribute to a cleaner environment. Since fly ash influences pozzolanic reactions in concrete, mechanical behaviors of concrete containing fly ash differ from traditional concrete. Creep behaviors of fly ash concrete filled steel tube arch were experimentally investigated for 10% and 30% fly ash replacement. The axes of two arches are designed as circular arc with 2.1 m computed span, 0.24 m arch rise, and their cross-sections are all in circular section. Time dependent deflection and strain of loading and mid-span steel tube were measured, and long term deflection of the model arch with 10% fly ash replacement was significantly larger than with 30% replacement. Considering the steel tube strain, compressive zone height, cross section curvature, and internal force borne by the steel tube, the compressive zone height and structural internal forces increased gradually over time due to concrete creep. Increased fly ash content resulted in more significant neutral axis shift. Mechanisms for internal force effects on neutral axis height were analyzed and verified experimentally.
In order to investigate change of shear strength of coastal muddy sediment by mixing pretreated oyster shells with different pyrolysis temperatures and particle sizes, a vane shear test was carried out. The shear strength of the sediment with oyster shells pyrolyzed at 800℃ was twice higher than that of the control, with a maximum shear strength of ca. 0.2 kPa. The Ca2+ concentration in the pore water was the highest at sediment with oyster shells pyrolyzed at 800℃ with a concentration of ca. 790 mg/L. From the above results, it is concluded that the application of the oyster shells pyrolyzed at 800℃ can affect the increase in shear strength of coastal sediments through the aggregation of clay particles and pozzolanic reactions with sediments.
The use of fly ash as a contaminant barrier material was studied. Mixing ratio of fly ash to bentonite to meet the requirements for landfill liners was determined. The hydraulic behavior exhibited by the fly ash-bentonite liner and the effects of CaO were investigated through hydraulic conductivity tests under various conditions and microscopic analyses including XRD, SEM, helium porosimetry, and image analysis. The hydraulic conductivity of compacted fly ash decreased with the addition of bentonite, which was due mainly to the expanding of bentonite and partly to the filling of voids by chemical reaction products among constituents of the artificial liner. Because of insufficient CaO content, and rich in content but low-reactive $SiO_2$ contained in the fly ashes used, pozzolanic reaction and resulting effects in the artificial liner were not significant. The reactions among constituting materials and their resulting effects on hydraulic conductivity were controlled not by the apparent amounts of each constituent, but by reaction activities of the materials in the artificial liner.
This study aimed to investigate the changes in chemical components that occur when weak clay is mixed with steel slag modified with calcium oxide, and to understand the expression characteristics of compressive strength according to hydrophilicity and curing time. XRF testing, SEM imaging, vane shear strength and uniaxial compressive strength testing were conducted. Calcium (Ca) released from the steel slag increases the Ca content in clay by increasing the number of crystal particles and forming a coating layer known as calcium silicate hydrate (CaO-SiO2-H2O) through chemical reactions with SiO2 and Al2O3 components. The weak clay stabilized with steel slag is classified into an initial inactive zone where strength relatively does not increase and an activation zone where strength increases over curing time. The vane shear strength of the initial inactive area was found to be 4.4 to 18.4 kN/m2 in the state of the weight mixing ratio Rss 30% (steel slag 30% + clay 70%). In the case of the active area, the maximum uniaxial compressive strength increased to 431.8 kN/m2 after 480 hours of curing time, which increased due to the apparent adhesion strength of clay through pozzolanic reaction. Therefore, considering the strength expression characteristics of stabilized mixed clay based on the mixing ratio (Rss) during the recycling of steel slag can enhance its practicality in civil engineering sites.
