The probe diffusion and friction constants of methyl yellow (MY) in liquid n-alkanes of increasing chain length were calculated by equilibrium molecular dynamics (MD) simulations at temperatures of 318, 418, 518 and 618 K. Lennard-Jones particles with masses of 225 and 114 g/mol are modeled for MY. We observed that the diffusion constant of the probe molecule follows a power law dependence on the molecular weight of nalkanes, DMY${\sim}M^{-\gamma}$ well. As the molecular weight of n-alkanes increases, the exponent $\gamma$ shows sharp transitions near n-dotriacontane ($C_{32}$) for the large probe molecule (MY2) at low temperatures of 318 and 418 K. For the small probe molecule (MY1) $D_{MY1}$ in $C_{12}$ to C80 at all the temperatures are always larger than Dself of n-alkanes and longer chain n-alkanes offer a reduced friction relative to the shorter chain n-alkanes, but this reduction in the microscopic friction for MY1 is not large enough to cause a transition in the power law exponent in the log-log plot of DMY1 vs M of n-alkane. For the large probe molecule (MY2) at high temperatures, the situation is very similar to that for MY1. At low temperatures and at low molecular weights of n-alkanes, $D_{MY2}$ are smaller than $D_{self}$ of n-alkanes due to the relatively large molecular size of MY2, and MY2 experiences the full shear viscosity of the medium. As the molecular weight of n-alkane increases, $D_{self}$ of n-alkanes decreases much faster than $D_{MY2}$ and at the higher molecular weights of n-alkane, MY2 diffuses faster than the solvent fluctuations. Therefore there is a large reduction of friction in longer chains compared to the shorter chains, which enhances the diffusion of MY2. The calculated friction constants of MY1 and MY2 in liquid n-alkanes supported these observations. We deem that this is the origin of the so-called“solventoligomer”transition.
It was reported that the semi-solid forming process has many advantages over the conventional forming process, such as a long die life, good mechanical properties and energy savings. It is very important, however, to control liquid segregation to gain mechanical property improvement of materials. During forming process, Rheology material has complex characteristics, thixotropic behavior. Also, difference of velocity between solid and liquid in the semi-solid state material makes a liquid segregation and specific stress variation. Therefore, it is difficult for a numerical simulation of the rheology Process to be Performed. General Plastic or fluid dynamic analysis is not suitable for the behavior of rheology material. The behavior and stress of solid particle in the rheology material during forging process is affected by viscosity, temperature and solid fraction. In this study, compression experiments of aluminum alloy were performed under each other tool shape. In addition, the dynamics behavior compare with Okano equation to Power law model which is viscosity equation.
A 50 kW class rotating body type wave energy converter consisted of two floating bodies and a PTO (Power Takeoff) unit is studied. As an wave energy extractor, the body is designed to have a VLCO (Variable Liquid-Column Oscillator) having a liquid filled U-tube with air chambers. Owing to the oscillation of the liquid in the U-tube caused by the air spring effect of the air chambers, the amplitude of response of the VLCO becomes significantly amplified for a target wave period. The PTO converts the rotational moment introduced from the relative motion of the hinged bodies to an hydraulic power by means of a cylinder. A high pressure accumulator, hydraulic motor and a generator are equipped in the PTO to convert the hydraulic power to electric power. A control law for adjusting the oscillation period of the VLCO is proposed for the efficient operation of the VLCO with various wave conditions. It is found that the effect of the air spring has an important role to play in making the oscillation of the VLCO match with the ocean wave. In this way, the wave energy converter equipped with the VLCO provides the most effective mode for extracting energy from the ocean wave.
The changes in the dispersion of carbon black in liquid polyisoprene under shear flow with time have been investigated by time-resolved ultra small-angle X-ray scattering (USAXS) method. The analyses of USAXS profile immediately after the start of shear flow clarified that the aggregates of carbon black with a mean radius of gyration of 14 nm and surface fractal dimension of 2.5 form the fractal network structure with mass-fractal dimension of 2.9. After the application of the shear flow, the scattering intensity increases with time at the observed whole entire q region, and then the a shoulder appears at $q=0.005nm^{-1}$, indicating that the agglomerate is broken and becomes smaller by shear flow. The analysis by the Unified Guinier/Power-law approach yielded several characteristic parameters, such as the sizes of aggregate and agglomerate, mass-fractal dimension of agglomerate, and surface fractal dimension of the primary particle. While the mean radius of gyration of the agglomerate decreases with time, the mean radius of gyration of the aggregate, mass fractal dimension, and surface fractal dimension don't change with time, indicating that the aggregates peel off the surface of the agglomerate.

The RVACS is a versatile and robust safety system driven by two natural circulations: in-vessel coolant and ex-vessel air. To observe interaction between the two natural circulations, SINCRO-IT facility was designed with two different similarity laws simultaneously. Bo' based similarity law was employed for the in-vessel, while Ishii's similarity law for the ex-vessel excluding the radiation. Compared to the prototype, the sodium and air system, SINCRO-IT was designed with Wood's metal and air, having 1:4 of the length reduction, and 1.68:1 of the time scale ratio. For the steady state, RV temperature limit was violated at 0.8% of the decay heat, while the sodium boiling was predicted at 1.3%. It showed good accordance with the system code, TRACE. For an arbitrary re-criticality scenario with RVACS solitary operation, sodium boiling was predicted at 25,100 s after power increase from 1.0 to 2.0%, while the system code showed 30,300. Maximum temperature discrepancy between the experiments and system code was 4.2%. The design and methodology were validated by the system code TRACE in terms of the convection, and simultaneously, the system code was validated against the simulating experiments SINCRO-IT. The validated RVACS model could be imported to further accident analysis.

As rubber products such as O-rings, which are also known as packings or toric joints, come in regular, long term contact with liquid fuel, they can eventually swell, become mechanically weakened, and occasionally crack; this diminishes both their usefulness and intrinsic lifetime and could cause leaks during the steady-state flow condition of the fuel. In this study, we evaluate the lifetime of such products through compression set tests of FKM, a family of fluorocarbon elastomer materials defined by the ASTM international standard D141; these materials have great compression, sunlight, and ozone resistance as well as a low gas absorption rate. In this process, O-rings are immersed in the liquid fuel of airtight containers that can be expressed as a compression set, and the liquid fuel leakage in a flow rig tester at variable temperatures over 12 months is investigated. Using the Power Law model, our study determined a theoretical O-ring lifetime of 2,647 years, i.e. a semi-permanent lifespan, by confirming the absence of liquid fuel leakage around the O-ring assembled fittings. These results indicate that the FKM O-rings are significantly compatible for fuel tests to evaluate long-term sealing conditions.
An experimental study has been performed to investigate the off-take phenomena at the header-feeder systems (horizontal header pipe with multiple feeder branch pipes) in a CANDU (CANadian Deuterium Uranium) reactor with the branch orientation varies ${\pm}36^{\circ}\;or\;{\pm}72^{\circ}$. In order to evaluate the applicability of the conventional correlations used in the safety analysis code, RELAP5-Mod3, the test facility is designed with the 1/2 scale of the. CANDU 6. It was found that the data set for the top, bottom and side branches are in a good agreement with the correlations used. However, for the specific angled branches, ${\pm}36^{\circ}\;and\;{\pm}72^{\circ}$, the onsets of off-take data and quality data showed large deviation with the conventional model inside RELAP5-MOD3. Furthermore, based on the uncertainty analysis, the conventional 2.5 power law needs to be modified. The present experimental data set can be useful for the construction of the general correlation considering the arbitrary branch orientation.
An experiment was carried out to evaluate the heat transfer enhancement and the pressure drop characteristics for liquid nitrogen using wire-coil-insert technique under horizontal two-phase conditions. The tube inner diameters were 8 mm and 15 mm, respectively and the tube length was 4.7 m. The helix angle of the wire coil insert was $50^{\circ}$ and its length was 4.7 m. Heat transfer coefficients for both the plain and the enhanced test tubes were calculated from the measurements of temperatures, flow rates and pressure drops. A correlation in a power-law relationship of the Nusselt number, Reynolds number and Prandtl number for the heat transfer was proposed which can be available for design of cryogenic heat exchangers. The correlation showed that heat transfer coefficients for the wire-coil inserts were much higher than those for plain tubes, increased by more than $1.8{\sim}2.0$ times depending upon the range of the equivalent Reynolds number. The correlation was compared with other various correlations in the turbulent flow conditions.
