  • When the line and switchgear of the substation system are disconnected, ferro-resonance can occur. This happens even if the capacitive reactance and inductive reactance are not equal, which are not common resonance conditions. Resonance conditions vary depending on the busbar configuration environment. Although the damping resistance method applying the existing saturable reactor to cope with ferro-resonance has been successfully applied on site, there can be loss of normal function during long-term operation. The reason is because the rise in the operating frequency of saturable reactors means the saturation number is increased. Therefore, it can no longer function as saturable reactor since the resistor having inadequate capacity is burned out. To address this problem, in this paper, an EMTP-based simulation test was performed by designing and applying a dual reactor method, which adds an extended divergence reactor to the 1st side of the VT. The test result confirms that when the divergence reactor is inserted, the voltage and current values obtained at the 1st side and 2nd side of the VT as well as current values of divergence reactor part were stabilized from the transient phenomena and return to normal values. When compared with existing measures, although this method is similar in adding having a reactor added to a system regarding ferro-resonance, it has the advantage of being able to prevent ferro-resonance in advance since the reactor is added before the system is saturated. In addition, because it does not use damping resistance, it can extend the equipment life and stabilize its operation. Therefore, there are a lot of differences in terms of its operating characteristics and achivement of goal between the conventional method and new divergence reactor method.

  • The heat transfer and friction factor characteristics of turbulent flows in three stationary channels have been investigated experimentally to check out the effect of divergence ratio. These are a constant cross-sectional channel and two diverging channels with ratio of divergence(Dho/Dhi) of 1.16 and 1.49. The measurement was conducted within the range of Reynolds numbers from 15,000 to 89,000 and the dimension of uniform cross-sectional test section is $100mm{\times}100mm$ at the cross section and 1,000 mm in length. The measurements of heat transfer coefficients and friction factors in the uniform channels were conducted as a reference. Because of the streamwise flow deceleration, the heat transfer and friction factor characteristics in the diverging channel were quite different from those of the constant cross-sectional channel. The effective friction factors and convective heat transfer coefficients increased with increasing the ratio of divergence of the channel.

  • Basu et al. (1998) proposed a new density-based estimator, called the minimum density power divergence estimator (MDPDE), which avoid the use of nonparametric density estimation and associated complication such as bandwidth selection. Woodward et al. (1995) examined the minimum Hellinger distance estimator (MHDE), proposed by Beran (1977), in the case of estimation of the mixture proportion in the mixture of two normals. In this article, we introduce the MDPDE for a mixture proportion, and show that both the MDPDE and the MHDE have the same asymptotic distribution at a model. Simulation study identifies some cases where the MHDE is consistently better than the MDPDE in terms of bias.

  • A 200W pulsed Nd: YAG laser for fine welding was developed. The important laser parameters such as laser peak power, average power, pulse width, and pulse energy for welding were studied. In order to obtain the sufficient laser power density for welding, thermal lensing effects were analyzed and a laser resonator with laser beam divergence was designed. The power supply unit was designed to support up to 7kW input. The pulse control unit was developed using a GTO thyristor and could control over 100kW input power to obtain 3.5kW peak power laser. Also due to the GTO thyristor the pulse width could be varied continuously from 0.1 to 20 msec and maximum repetition rate was as high as 300pps.

  • Swing check valve is opened when the flow direction is forward, when the flow is reversed, the valve is automatically closed by back pressure. In this study, the internal flow field analysis of the valve was conducted by Fluent. The working fluid used in the study, using liquefied methane $-165^{\circ}C$ (CH4) and velocity field, pressure field, pressure drop coefficient were simulated by varying separately the opening divergence into four intervals from 0 to 100%. The approximate research result are as follow : When the opening divergence is smaller, it appears high pressure on the upstream side, this value is relaxed when the opening divergence is large. Flow rate coefficient of the valve shows a larger value as the degree of opening becomes larger, confirming that the check valve used in the study is in the effective flow rate counting range.

  • For computer aided design and costruction of low noisy power plants, indoor and outdoor noise prediction program has been developed. The program utilizes the predefined data of noise sources and building materials and has the faculty to estimate the source level using the empirical formula in case of the measured data not being available. In the noise prediction, the mutual noise propagation between indoor and outdoor sites are considered. The outdoor noise source in the calculation of geometric divergence effects is modelled as the omni-directional finite line or planar source according to the source geometry and the receiving points. Outdoor noise prediction is carried out to consider the diffraction effect due to plant structures as well as the attenuation effect due to atmospheric absorption and soft ground. The results of indoor and outdoor noise prediction for a recently constructed diesel engine power plant show good agreement with the measured.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new load flow analysis algorithm. In order to develop it, we converted typical power flow problem into optimal problem. This problem has the objective function that minimize the difference between calculated values and specified values of bus powers and subject to bus power equations of P and Q. Using it, we solved the divergence by singularity of Jacobian matrix, the divergence by initial value in the typical power flow study. In the study of a sample system, we verified the superiority of proposed algorithm.

  • A hemiconfocal resonator equipped with an intra-cavity adjustable aperture and a beam splitter has been studied experimentally to achieve a controlled low beam divergence operation in a vapor laser system. The dependences of output characteristics both on the aperture diameter and on the angle of beam splitter have been investigated. By adjusting the aperture diameter from 14mm to 2mm to 2mm, we were able to reduce the beam divergence from 3.1 mrad to 0.25 mrad and achieved the 8-times increase in the far-field power density.

  • We report experimental results on 940-nm 350-mW AlGaAs/InGaAs transverse single-mode laser diodes (LDs) adopting graded-index separate confinement heterostructures (GRIN-SCH) and p,n-clad asymmetric structures, with improved temperature and small-divergence beam characteristics under high-output-power operation, for a three-dimensional (3D) motion-recognition sensor. The GRIN-SCH design provides good carrier confinement and prevents current leakage by adding a grading layer between cladding and waveguide layers. The asymmetric design, which differs in refractive-index distribution of p-n cladding layers, reduces the divergence angle at high-power operation and widens the transverse mode distribution to decrease the power density around emission facets. At an optical power of 350 mW under continuous-wave (CW) operation, Gaussian narrow far-field patterns (FFP) are measured with the full width at half maximum vertical divergence angle to be 18 degrees. A threshold current (Ith) of 65 mA, slope efficiency (SE) of 0.98 mW/mA, and operating current (Iop) of 400 mA are obtained at room temperature. Also, we could achieve catastrophic optical damage (COD) of 850 mW and long-term reliability of 60℃ with a TO-56 package.

  • This paper is concerned with the applicability of the chi-square approximation to the six disparity statistics: the Pearson chi-square, the generalized likelihood ratio, the power divergence, the blended weight chi-square, the blended weight Hellinger distance, and the negative exponential disparity statistic. Three dimensional contingency tables of small and moderate sample sizes are generated to be fitted to all possible hierarchical log-linear models: the completely independent model, the conditionally independent model, the partial association models, and the model with one variable independent of the other two. For models with direct solutions of expected cell counts, point estimates and confidence intervals of the 90 and 95 percentage points of six statistics are explored. For model without direct solutions, the empirical significant levels and the empirical powers of six statistics to test the significance of the three factor interaction are computed and compared.
