As a result of the growth of mobile devices such as PDA and cellular phone, a user can utilize various digital contents everywhere and anytime. However, mobile devices have the limited resources and interaction mechanisms. This paper introduces the schema for a user activity estimation and its application in order to overcome the poor user interface and limited resource problems. We are able to supplement lacking the user interface of mobile devices by using the user activity estimation proposed in this paper, and its application is a intelligent control interface for the display power on or off which can effectively utility the battery of the mobile device.
This paper presents a Direct Torque Control (DTC) strategy for the five-phase induction motor driven by a three-level five-phase inverter in order to improve the performance of the five-phase induction motor. In the proposed DTC technique, only 22 voltage vectors out of 243 available voltage vectors in a three-level five-phase inverter are selected and are divided in 10 sectors each with a width of $36^{\circ}$. The four different DTC combinations (DTC-I, II, III and IV) for a three-level five-phase induction motor drive are investigated for improving the performance of five-phase induction motor. All four of the DTC strategies utilize a combination of the same large and zero voltage vectors, but with different medium voltage vectors. Out of these four techniques, DTC-II gives the best performance when compared to the others. This DTC-II technique is analyzed in detail for improvements in the performance of five-phase induction motor in terms of torque ripple, x-y stator flux and Total Harmonics Distortion (THD) of the stator phase current when compared to its two-level counterparts. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed three-level five-phase DTC control strategy, a DSP based experimental system is build. Simulation and experimental results are provided in order to validate the proposed DTC technique.
Purpose: In this study undergraduate nursing students' experiences of learning in community health nursing clinical placements was explored on order to develop a more effective practice teaching method. Methods: Focus group interviews (FGI) were held with 11 nursing students in junior or senior year. The interviews were audio-taped semi-structured interviews and were analyzed using content analysis. Results: Nursing students felt that the education system for practice was incomplete in considering the nursing that was needed for their on-site practice. Also they were aware of the totality of the community and voluntarily tried to provide for the expansion of knowledge. Conclusion: Findings indicate a need to establish a cooperative plan between nursing schools and practice agencies and collaborative development in the community health nursing practice guidelines.

This study explores an alternative to the existing centralized process for data anomaly detection in modern Internet of Things (IoT)-based structural health monitoring (SHM) systems. An edge intelligence framework is proposed for the early detection and classification of various data anomalies facilitating quality enhancement of acquired data before transmitting to a central system. State-of-the-art deep neural network pruning techniques are investigated and compared aiming to significantly reduce the network size so that it can run efficiently on resource-constrained edge devices such as wireless smart sensors. Further, depthwise separable convolution (DSC) is invoked, the integration of which with advanced structural pruning methods exhibited superior compression capability. Last but not least, quantization-aware training (QAT) is adopted for faster processing and lower memory and power consumption. The proposed edge intelligence framework will eventually lead to reduced network overload and latency. This will enable intelligent self-adaptation strategies to be employed to timely deal with a faulty sensor, minimizing the wasteful use of power, memory, and other resources in wireless smart sensors, increasing efficiency, and reducing maintenance costs for modern smart SHM systems. This study presents a theoretical foundation for the proposed framework, the validation of which through actual field trials is a scope for future work.
Due to the merits of OLED displays such as fast responsiveness, wide view angle, and power efficiency, their use has increased. However, despite the power efficiency of OLED displays, the portion of their power consumption among the total power consumption is still high since user interaction-based applications such as instant messaging, video play, and games are frequently used. Their power consumption varies significantly depending on the display contents and thus color transformation is one of the low-power techniques used in OLED displays. Prior low-power color transformation techniques have not been rigorously studied in terms of satisfaction of the human visual system, and have not considered optimal visual satisfaction and power consumption at the same time in relation to color transformation. In this paper, we propose a novel low-power color transformation technique which strictly considers human visual system-awareness as well as optimization of both visual satisfaction and power consumption in a balanced way. Experimental results show that the proposed technique achieves better human visual satisfaction in terms of visuality and also shows on average 13.4% and 22.4% improvement over a prior one in terms of power saving.
With proliferation of computer and wireless network technology, it is common to access Internet through wireless network using mobile device. Ratio of using streaming media out of many applications through Internet is increasing not only in wired network but also in wireless network. Streaming media is much bigger than other contents and requires more network bandwidth and more computing resources. However mobile devices hate relatively poor computing resource and low network bandwidth. If media streaming service is provided for mobile devices without any consideration about network bandwidth and computing power, it is hard for the client to get high qualify service. Since mobile device is supported with very limited energy from the battery, media streaming should be adjusted to varying energy state of mobile device in realtime to ensure complete playback of streaming media. In this paper, we propose DFRC to provide high qualify service to mobile client through wireless network by controlling the number of frames transmitted to client based on computing resource and energy state of mobile device.
The task of consolidating server workloads is critical for the efficiency of a datacenter in terms of reducing costs. However, as a greater number of workloads are consolidated in a single server, the performance of workloads might be degraded due to their contention to the limited shared resources. To reduce the performance degradation, scheduling for mitigating the contention of shared resources is necessary. In this paper, we present the Dynamic Voltage Frequency Scaling (DVFS) based memory-contention aware scheduling method for multi-threaded workloads. The proposed method uses two approaches: running memory-intensive threads on the limited cores to avoid concurrent memory accesses, and reducing the frequencies of the cores that run memory-intensive threads. With the proposed algorithm, we increased performance by 43% and reduced power consumption by 38% compared to the Completely Fair Scheduler(CFS), the default scheduler of Linux.

As the power of influence of the Internet grows steadily, attacks against the Internet can cause enormous monetary damages nowadays. A worm can not only replicate itself like a virus but also propagate itself across the Internet. So it infects vulnerable hosts in the Internet and then downgrades the overall performance of the Internet or makes the Internet not to work. To response this, worm detection and prevention technologies are developed. The worm detection technologies are classified into two categories, host based detection and network based detection. Host based detection methods are a method which checks the files that worms make, a method which checks the integrity of the file systems and so on. Network based detection methods are a misuse detection method which compares traffic payloads with worm signatures and anomaly detection methods which check inbound/outbound scan rates, ICMP host/port unreachable message rates, and TCP RST packet rates. However, single detection methods like the aforementioned can't response worms' attacks effectively because worms attack the Internet in the distributed fashion. In this paper, we propose a design of distributed worm detection system to overcome the inefficiency. Existing distributed network intrusion detection systems cooperate with each other only with their own information. Unlike this, in our proposed system, a worm detection system on a network in which worms select targets and a worm detection system on a network in which worms propagate themselves cooperate with each other with the direction-aware information in terms of worm's lifecycle. The direction-aware information includes the moving direction of worms and the service port attacked by worms. In this way, we can not only reduce false positive rate of the system but also prevent worms from propagating themselves across the Internet through dispersing the confirmed worm signature.
Log data collected from mobile devices contain diverse and meaningful personal information. However, it is not easy to implement a context-aware mobile agent using this personal information due to the inherent limitation in mobile platform such as memory capacity, computation power and its difficulty of analysis of the data. We propose a method of selective inference for modular Bayesian Network for context-aware mobile agent with effectiveness and reliability. Each BN module performs inference only when it can change the result by comparing to the history module which contains evidences and posterior probability, and gets results effectively using a method of influence score of the modules. We adopt memory decay theory and virtual linking method for the evaluation of the reliability and conservation of casual relationship between BN modules, respectively. Finally, we confirm the usefulness of the proposed method by several experiments on mobile phones.
English law accepts the basic principle of freedom of contract that the parties should be free to agree on any terms that they like unless their agreement is illegal or otherwise contrary to public policy because it infringes some public interest. On the other hand, it has been limited for hundreds of years on the basis that certain contract terms, particularly in standard form, may alter a distribution of risks that the customer would reasonably intended. The alteration may often result from his simple ignorance caused by either lack of opportunity to become aware of clauses or inability to understand their full potential implications. In addition, it may also result from disparity in bargaining power which does not allow the customer to look after their own interests even if he is fully aware of the unacceptable clauses. In response to this problem, English law has employed both judicial and statutory intervention techniques to control unfair contract terms. This study describes and analyzes in detail how English law regulates such terms, particularly, in standard form, in order to provide legal advice to our sellers residing either in UK or in Korea who plan to enter into UK markets. It also attempts to explore any problem in the existing double legislations of UCTA and UTCCR and put forward future direction of English law in light of the Draft Unfair Terms Bill which was currently proposed by the Law Commissioners. The main concern of this paper will be confined to some of the various aspects of both judicial and statutory control of unfair contract terms in English law which may draw our attention in terms of domestic or international business sales.
