  • In this paper, electromagnetic waves radiated from discharge at three-type electrodes (needle-plane, plane-plane and sphere-plane electrode) using DC power source in air measured and the peculiar patterns of their spectra are reported. The radiated electrodmagnetic waves were measured in bandwidth of VHF($30{\sim}230$[MHz]) using a biconcal antenna and a spectrum analyzer. Frequency spectrum distribution of radiated electromagnetic wave was revealed under 50[MHz] at positive DC, and high electric field was shown at 45[MHz] frequency band. But, it was revealed under 70[MHz] frequency band at negative DC under plane-plane electrodes and sphere-plane electrodes, and high electric field was shown at 55 [MHz] frequency band.

  • The relations between wall pressure fluctuations and near-wall streamwise vortices are investigated in a spatially-developing turbulent boundary layer using the direct numerical simulation. The power spectra and two-point correlations of wall pressure fluctuations are presented to validate the present simulation. Emphasis is placed on the identification of the correlation between wall pressure fluctuations and streamwise vorticities. It is shown that wall pressure fluctuations are directly linked with the upstream streamwise vortices in the buffer region of the turbulent boundary layer. The maximum correlation occurs with the spanwise displacement from the location of wall pressure fluctuations. The conditionally-averaged vorticity field and the quadrant analysis of Reynolds shear stress indicate that the sweep events due to streamwise vortices generate positive wall pressure fluctuations, while negative wall pressure fluctuations are created beneath the ejection events and vortex cores. The instantaneous flow field and time records reveal that the rise of high wall pressure fluctuations coincide with the passages of the upstream streamwise vortices.

  • The effectiveness of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripter for the therapy of calculus has been well known in the field of urology. There are many studies about the performance of that and the influence into human body. Among them, it is an impertant issue that cavitation is always deal with shock wave. A medium of the shock wave is related to the cavitation phenomenon. In this paper, therefore, we analysis the spectra of radiated sounds and the break efficiency on focal region due to the medium of shock wave. The results show that the cavitation bubbles produce a harmful on the break efficiency and the stability of the radiated sounds due to the ESWL.

  • Acoustical imaging has made brilliant progress in the medical science field, and has also made much progress in the nondestructive testing and under water acoustics applications since doctor Dussik brother has studied about possibilities of making images of brain by recording variations in the intensity of ultrasonic beam from head in 1937. In this paper an acoustical image is reconstructed with the power spectra analysed by impulse ultrasound wave generated by electrodynamic transducer(EDT). The EDT generates the impulse ultrasound of 77KHz in center frequency and 120KHz in bandwidth at -20dB by 1200V exciter in this experiment. The impulse ultrasound has the dominant frequency components of 47KHz, 177KHz, 110KHz and 155KHz. The U shape object is adopted in making an acoustical image. The resulted spectral acoustical images are different from the optical view of the U shape object. However the image reconstructed from 110KHz spectrum is very similar to the original optical shape of the object. Even KHz level impulse sound of 70$\mu$sec pulse width is found to be useful in reconstructing acoustical imaging improvement.

  • Silicon carbide (SiC) is a promising material for neutron detection at harsh environments because of its capability to withstand strong radiation fields and high temperatures. Two PIN-type SiC semiconductor neutron detectors, which can be used for nuclear power plant (NPP) applications, such as in-core reactor neutron flux monitoring and measurement, were designed and fabricated. As a preliminary test, MCNPX simulations were performed to estimate reaction probabilities with respect to neutron energies. In the experiment, I-V curves were measured to confirm the diode characteristic of the detectors, and pulse height spectra were measured for neutron responses by using a $^{252}Cf$ neutron source at KRISS (Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science), and a Tandem accelerator at KIGAM (Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources). The neutron counts of the detector were linearly increased as the incident neutron flux got larger.

  • In order to achieve white emission from organic light emitting devices (OLEDs), five distinct structures were fabricated and tested. The white emission was obtained using two different color-emitting materials (yellow from rubrene-doped $Alq_3$ and blue from DPVBi) with or without a carrier-blocking layer. For enhancing the red emission, two types of devices with three-color emitting materials were fabricated. The white emission, close to the CIE coordinate of (0.3,0.3), was achieved by using two blocking layers as well that as without a blocking layer. This paper covers the subject of controlling the location of exciton recombination zone. It has been found that there is a trade-off in that the devices with three color emitting layers do not show as much luminescence efficiency compared to those with two color emitting layers, but rather, show distinct red emission in the resultant emission spectra. The highest power efficiency was measured to be 1.15lm/W at 2,000 $cd/m^2$ for a structure with two color-emitting layers.

  • Color correction methods of chromaticity coordinates using Color Matching Function (CMF) were studied to develop a device-independent portable-type urine analyzer. The reflection spectra were measured for the degrees of 10 test items of the urine reagent strip (urine strip) to develop a portable-type urine analyzer. A computer simulation was performed to quantitatively distinguish the color reactions of the urine system, by using the spectral power distribution of Light Emitting Diode(LED), the reflection of a urine strip, and spectral sensitivity of a photodiode. To develop a device-independent system, chromaticity coordinates were modified to reduce the color deviations in the urine strip, by using the temperature compensation of LED and the color transformation by CMF. The experimental values obtained by developed urine system exhibited the accuracy above 95% for all color samples.

  • Mean and extreme pressure distributions on a large cantilevered flat roof model are measured in a boundary layer wind tunnel. The largest peak suction values are observed from pressure taps beneath conical "delta-wing type" corner vortices that occur for oblique winds, then the characteristics and causes of the local peak suctions are discussed in detail. Power spectra of fluctuating wind pressures measured from some typical taps located at the roof edges under different wind directions are presented, and coherence functions of fluctuating pressures are also obtained. Based on these results, it is verified that the peak suctions are highly correlated with the conical vortices. Furthermore, according to the characteristics of wind loads on the roof, an aerodynamic solution to minimize the peak suctions by venting the leading edges and the corners of the roof is recommended. The experimental results show that the suggested strategy can effectively control the generation of the conical vortices and make a reduction of 50% in mean pressures and 25% in extreme local pressures at wind sensitive locations on the roof.

  • This study attempts to test the classifying performance of a neural network and thereby examine its applicability to the signals distorted in a shallow water environment. Linear frequency modulated(LFM) signals are simulated by using an acoustic model and also measured through sea experiment. The network is constructed to have three layers and trained on both data sets. To get normalized power spectra as feature vectors, the study considers the three transforms : shot-time Fourier transform (STFT), wavelet transform (WT) and pseudo Wigner-Ville distribution (PWVD). After trained on the simulated signals over water depth, the network gives over 95% performance with the signal to noise ratio (SNR) being up to-10 dB. Among the transforms, the PWVD presents the best performance particularly in a highly noisy condition. The network performs worse with the summer sound speed profile than with the winter profile. It is also expected to present much different performance by the variation of bottom property. When the network is trained on the measured signals, it gives a little better results than that trained on the simulated data. In conclusion, the simulated signals are successfully applied to training a network, and the trained network performs well in classifying the signals distorted by a surrounding environment and corrupted by noise.

  • Transparent In-doped zinc oxide (IZO) thin films are deposited with variation of pulsed DC power at Ar atmosphere on coming 7059 glass substrate by pulsed DC magnetron sputtering. A c-axis oriented IZO thin films were grown in perpendicular to the substrate. The optical transmittance spectra showed high transmittance of over 80% in the UV-visible region and exhibited the absorption edge of about 350 nm. Also, the IZO films exhibited the resistivity of ${\sim}10^{-3}{\Omega}\;cm$ and the mobility of ${\sim}6cm/V\;s$. Organic Light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with IZO/N,N'-diphenyl-N, N'-bis(3-methylphenl)-1, 1'-biphenyl-4,4'-diamine (TPD)/tris (8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum ($Alq_3$)/LiF/Al configuration were fabricated. LiF layer inserted is used as an interfacial layer to increase the electron injection. Under a current density of $100\;mA/cm^2$, the OLEDs show an excellent efficiency (9.4 V turn-on voltage) and a good brightness ($12000\;cd/m^2$) of the emission light from the devices. These results indicate that IZO films hold promise for anode electrodes in the OLEDs application.
