In order to explore the time dependence of the closure parameters of the two-fluid calculations for supernova remnants and the terminal shocks of stellar winds, we have considered a simple model in which the time evolution of the cosmic-ray distribution function was followed in the test-particle limit using the Bohm diffusion model. The particles are mostly accelerated to relativistic energy either in the free expansion phase of the SNRs or in the early phase of the stellar winds, so the evolution of the closure parameters during these early stages is substantial and should be followed correctly. We have also calculated the maximum momentum which is limited by either the age or the curvature of these spherical shocks. We found that SNRs expanding into the medium where the gas density decreases with the distance from the explosion center might be necessary to explain the observed power-law distribution of the galactic cosmic rays. The energy loss due to the escaping energetic particles has been estimated for the terminal shocks of the stellar winds.
We have calculated the cosmic ray(CR) acceleration at young remnants from Type Ia supernovae expanding into a uniform interstellar medium(ISM). Adopting quasi-parallel magnetic fields, gasdynamic equations and the diffusion convection equation for the particle distribution function are solved in a comoving spherical grid which expands with the shock. Bohm-type diffusion due to self-excited $Alfv\acute{e}n$ waves, drift and dissipation of these waves in the precursor and thermal leakage injection were included. With magnetic fields amplified by the CR streaming instability, the particle energy can reach up to $10^{16}Z$ eV at young supernova remnants(SNRs) of several thousand years old. The fraction of the explosion energy transferred to the CR component asymptotes to 40-50 % by that time. For a typical SNR in a warm ISM, the accelerated CR energy spectrum should exhibit a concave curvature with the power-law slope flattening from 2 to 1.6 at $E{\gtrsim}0.1$ TeV.

A robust nonlinear observer, utilizing the sliding mode concept, is developed for the dynamic positioning of ships. The observer provides the estimates of linear velocities of the ship and bias from slowly varying environmental loads. It also filters out wave frequency motion to avoid wear of actuators and excessive fuel consumption. The main advantage of the proposed observer is in its robustness. Especially, the observer structure with a saturation function makes the proposed observer robust against neglected nonlinearties, disturbances and uncertainties. Since the mathematical model of DP ships is difficult to obtain and includes uncertainties and disturbances, it is very important for the observer to be robust. A nonlinear output feedback controller is derives based on the developed observer using the observer backstepping technique, and the global stability of the observer and control law is shown by Lyapunov stability theory.. A set of simulation was carried out to investigate the performance of the proposed observer for dynamic positioning of ships.
A weak-form formulation of finite annular prism methods (FAPM) based on Reissner's mixed variational theorem (RMVT), is developed for the quasi three-dimensional (3D) static analysis of two-directional functionally graded (FG) circular plates with various boundary conditions and under mechanical loads. The material properties of the circular plate are assumed to obey either a two-directional power-law distribution of the volume fractions of the constituents through the radial-thickness surface or an exponential function distribution varying doubly exponentially through it. These FAPM solutions of the loaded FG circular plates with both simply-supported and clamped edges are in excellent agreement with the solutions obtained using the 3D analytical approach and two-dimensional advanced plate theories available in the literature.

This paper employs differential quadrature method (DQM) and nonlocal strain gradient theory (NSGT) for studying free vibrational characteristics of porous functionally graded (FG) nanoplates coupled by visco-elastic foundation. A secant function based refined plate theory is used for mathematical modeling of the nano-size plate. Two scale factors are included in the formulation for describing size influences based on NSGT. The material properties for FG plate are porosity-dependent and defined employing a modified power-law form. Visco-elastic foundation is presented based on three factors including a viscous layer and two elastic layers. The governing equations achieved by Hamilton's principle are solved implementing DQM. The nanoplate vibration is shown to be affected by porosity, temperature rise, scale factors and viscous damping.

The present paper employs nonlocal strain gradient theory (NSGT) to study buckling behavior of functionally graded magneto-electro-thermo-elastic (FG-METE) nanoshells under various physical fields. NSGT modeling of the nanoshell contains two size parameters, one related to nonlocal stress field and another related to strain gradients. It is considered that mechanical, thermal, electrical and magnetic loads are exerted to the nanoshell. Temperature field has uniform and linear variation in nanoshell thickness. According to a power-law function, piezo-magnetic, thermal and mechanical properties of the nanoshell are considered to be graded in thickness direction. Five coupled governing equations have been obtained by using Hamilton's principle and then solved implementing Galerkin's method. Influences of temperature field, electric voltage, magnetic potential, nonlocality, strain gradient parameter and FG material exponent on buckling loads of the FG-METE nanoshell have been studied in detail.

Accelerated life tests (ALTs) are frequently used in manufacturing industries to evaluate the reliability of products within a reasonable amount of time and cost. Test units are subjected to elevated stresses which yield quick failures. Most of the previous works on designing ALT plans are focused on tests that involve a single stress. Many times more than one stress factor influence the product's functioning. This paper deals with the design of optimum modified ramp-stress ALT plan for Burr type XII distribution with Type-I censoring under two stress factors, viz., voltage and switching rate each at two levels- low and high. It is assumed that usage time to failure is power law function of switching rate, and voltage increases linearly with time according to modified ramp-stress scheme. The cumulative exposure model is used to incorporate the effect of changing stresses. The optimum plan is devised using D-optimality criterion wherein the ${\log}_{10}$ of the determinant of Fisher information matrix is maximized. The method developed has been explained using a numerical example and sensitivity carried out.
This paper presents an UPFC(Unified Power Flow Controlled model that considered rating for stability study. The proposed UPFC model was implemented by PSS/E and IPLAN. As a control strategy for damping electromechnical oscillations, energy function method was adopted. By the adopted control law, the damping effect is robust with respect to loading condition, fault location and network structure. The effect of control of the UPFC model was demonstrated on a one machine infinite bus system.
This paper concerns the development of a computational model for the damage evolution of engineering materials under dynamic loading. Two models describing the anisotropic damage evolution of a material are presented; the first is based on a power function of the effective equivalent stress and the second on the damage strain energy release rate. The methods for computing the damage accumulated in structural components and their implementation in a finite element programme are presented together with some numerical results. The dynamic response of a damaged structural component and the dynamic behaviour of a damaged material have been studied numerically. This study shows that the frequency spectrum of a damaged structure is down-shifted, while the damping ratio of damaged materials becomes higher, the amplitude of the response significantly increases and the resonance ensuing from the damage growth still occurs in a damaged structure.
This paper focuses on post-buckling analysis of functionally graded Timoshenko beam subjected to thermal loading by using the total Lagrangian Timoshenko beam element approximation. Material properties of the beam change in the thickness direction according to a power-law function. The beam is clamped at both ends. The considered highly non-linear problem is solved by using incremental displacement-based finite element method in conjunction with Newton-Raphson iteration method. As far as the authors know, there is no study on the post-buckling analysis of functionally graded Timoshenko beams under thermal loading considering full geometric non-linearity investigated by using finite element method. The convergence studies are made and the obtained results are compared with the published results. In the study, with the effects of material gradient property and thermal load, the relationships between deflections, end constraint forces, thermal buckling configuration and stress distributions through the thickness of the beams are illustrated in detail in post-buckling case.
