Major environmental factors and traits of invasive alien plants determining their spatial distribution

  • Background: As trade increases, the influx of various alien species and their spread to new regions are prevalent and no longer a special problem. Anthropogenic activities and climate changes have made the distribution of alien species out of their native range common. As a result, alien species can be easily found anywhere, and they have nothing but only a few differences in intensity. The prevalent distribution of alien species adversely affects the ecosystem, and a strategic management plan must be established to control them effectively. To this end, hot spots and cold spots were analyzed according to the degree of distribution of invasive alien plants, and major environmental factors related to hot spots were found. We analyzed the 10,287 distribution points of 126 species of alien plants collected through the national survey of alien species by the hierarchical model of species communities (HMSC) framework. Results: The explanatory and fourfold cross-validation predictive power of the model were 0.91 and 0.75 as AUC values, respectively. The hot spots of invasive plants were found in the Seoul metropolitan area, Daegu metropolitan city, Chungcheongbuk-do Province, southwest shore, and Jeju island. Generally, the hot spots were found where the higher maximum temperature of summer, precipitation of winter, and road density are observed, but temperature seasonality, annual temperature range, precipitation of the summer, and distance to river and sea were negatively related to the hot spots. According to the model, the functional traits accounted for 55% of the variance explained by the environmental factors. The species with higher specific leaf areas were more found where temperature seasonality was low. Taller species preferred the bigger annual temperature range. The heavier seed mass was only preferred when the max temperature of summer exceeded 29 ℃. Conclusions: In this study, hot spots were places where 2.1 times more alien plants were distributed on average than non-hot spots (33.5 vs 15.7 species). The hot spots of invasive plants were expected to appear in less stressful climate conditions, such as low fluctuation of temperature and precipitation. Also, the disturbance by anthropogenic factors or water flow had positive influences on the hot spots. These results were consistent with the previous reports about the ruderal or competitive strategies of invasive plants instead of the stress-tolerant strategy. The functional traits are closely related to the ecological strategies of plants by shaping the response of species to various environmental filters, and our result confirmed this. Therefore, in order to effectively control alien plants, it is judged that the occurrence of disturbed sites in which alien plants can grow in large quantities is minimized, and the river management of waterfronts is required.

  • 국산 자기컴퍼스의 제작에 필요한 기초자료를 제공하기 위하여 인공자기장 발생장치를 제작하여 그 특성을 조사하였고, 인공자장내에서의 자기컴퍼스의 제진 특성을 시험하여 자기컴퍼스의 성능을 부석, 검토한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 코일의 굵기 1mm, 직경 1 m, 권회수 117회인 인공자장발생장치의 전류(I sub(i))와 자장의 세기와의 사이에는 수직자장: Z(Gauss)=0.34+1.506 I sub(i) 수평자장: H(Gauss)=0.1834+1.506 I sub(i)의 관계가 있다. 2. T190형 자기컴퍼스는 T165형 자기컴퍼스에 비하여 전 tnbud자장 범위에서 주기는 길었으며, 진폭은 0.08 Gauss 이상에서는 크고, 그 이하에서는 작은 경향을 보였다. 3. 수평자장이 강할수록 주기와 자기자오선에 복귀하는 시간은 짧아지고, 진폭과 주행각은 커졌으며, 제진곡선의 주요점까지의 경과시간(Ti)은 수평자장(H)의 -0.65승에 비례하였고, 과행각(P sub(i))은 0.18승에 비례하였다.

온도 모니터링을 위한 광섬유 센서와 온도센서 배열 케이블의 비교 연구 (A Study on the Comparison between an Optical Fiber and a Thermal Sensor Cable for Temperature Monitoring)

  • 본 연구에서는 여러 지점의 온도를 동시에 측정할 수 있는 두 가지 온도 모니터링 기법을 소개하고 있다. 그 하나는 고유주소를 가지고 있는 온도센서로 구성된 온도센서 배열 케이블을 이용하는 기법이며, 다른 하나는 광섬유 센서를 이용하여 분포 온도를 측정하는 기법이다. 이 두 기법의 차이점은 다음과 같이 요약될 수 있다. 온도센서 배열 케이블은 온도센서가 위치하는 정확한 지점의 온도를 측정하게 된다. 그에 대한 온도 측정의 정밀도 및 분해능은 그 온도 센서의 성능에 따라 결정된다. 한편, 광섬유 센서는 레이저 펄스가 광섬유를 따라 보내질 때 생성되는 Raman 역산란파를 분석함으로써 온도를 측정하기 때문에 분포 개념의 온도를 측정하게 된다. 그에 대한 온도 분해능은 측정거리, 측정시간 및 온도측정 거리분해능에 따라 결정된다. 본 논문은 두 가지 온도 모니터링 시스템의 장단점을 비교함으로써 기술적이고 경제적인 측면에서 그의 응용분야를 면밀히 검토하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 두 기법을 이용한 다양한 실험을 실시하였다. 그 결과를 검토해 보면 온도센서 배열 케이블은 300m 범위 내의 지하수 흐름, 지열 분포 및 그라우팅 효과 검증에 적합할 것으로 판단되며 광섬유 센서는 상대적으로 긴 거리에 걸친 분포 온도에 대한 정보가 필요한 파이프 파인 감시, 터널 화재 감시 및 전력선 모니터링과 같은 분야에서 효율적으로 활용될 것이 기대된다.

Lead-free inorganic metal perovskites beyond photovoltaics: Photon, charged particles and neutron shielding applications

  • Over the last few years, lead-free inorganic metal perovskites have gained impressive ground in empowering satellites in space exploration owing to their material stability and performance evolution under extreme space environments. The present work has examined the versatility of eight such perovskites as space radiation shielding materials by computing their photon, charged particles and neutron interaction parameters. Photon interaction parameters were calculated for a wide energy range using PAGEX software. The ranges of heavy charged particles (H, He, C, N, O, Ne, Mg, Si and Fe ions) in these perovskites were estimated using SRIM software in the energy range 1 keV-10 GeV, and that of electrons was computed using ESTAR NIST software in the energy range 0.01 MeV-1 GeV. Further, the macroscopic fast neutron removal cross-sections were also calculated to estimate the neutron shielding efficiencies. The examined shielding parameters of the perovskites varied depending on the radiation type and energy. Among the selected perovskites, Cs2TiI6 and Ba2AgIO6 displayed superior photon attenuation properties. A 3.5 cm thick Ba2AgIO6-based shield could reduce the incident radiation intensity to half its initial value, a thickness even lesser than that of Pb-glass. Besides, CsSnBr3 and La0.8Ca0.2Ni0.5Ti0.5O3 displayed the highest and lowest range values, respectively, for all heavy charged particles. Ba2AgIO6 showed electron stopping power (on par with Kovar) better than that of other examined materials. Interestingly, La0.8Ca0.2Ni0.5Ti0.5O3 demonstrated neutron removal cross-section values greater than that of standard neutron shielding materials - aluminium and polyethylene. On the whole, the present study not only demonstrates the employment prospects of eco-friendly perovskites for shielding space radiations but also suggests future prospects for research in this direction.

머신러닝과 통계분석 기법의 비교분석을 통한 건물에 대한 서울시 구별 지진취약도 등급화 및 위험건물 밀도분석 (District-Level Seismic Vulnerability Rating and Risk Level Based-Density Analysis of Buildings through Comparative Analysis of Machine Learning and Statistical Analysis Techniques in Seoul)

  • 최근 국내‧외적으로 많은 지진이 발생하고 있는 상황에서, 우리나라의 건물은 내진설계 및 지진피해에 매우 취약한 상황이다. 따라서 현 연구의 목적은 건물에 대한 지진취약도 등급화 및 위험건물 밀도분석을 수행하는 효과적인 방법을 발굴하고 이를 모델화하여, 시범지역(서울시)자료를 활용해 검증해 보는데 있다. 이를 위해 활용된 두 가지 모델링 기법 중, 통계 분석 기법의 예측정확도는 87%였고, 머신러닝 기법은 Random Forest모델의 예측정확도가 가장 높았으며, 해당 모델의 Test Set 정확도는 97.1%로 도출되었다. 분석결과, 구별 등급화 결과는 광진구와 송파구가 상대적으로 위험하다고 예측되었으며, 위험건물 밀도분석은 서초구, 관악구, 강서구가 상대적으로 위험하다고 예측되었다. 최종적으로, 통계분석 기법을 활용한 분석결과가 머신러닝 기법을 활용한 분석결과보다 위험하게 도출되었으나, 우리나라에서는 지진 강도 6.5(MMI)가 내진설계의 기준인데, 서울시 건물의 약 18.9%가 내진설계 되어있는 것으로 확인된 것을 고려하면, 머신러닝 기법의 결과가 더 정확할 것으로 예측되었다. 현 연구는 인구 및 인프라와 경찰서, 소방서 등을 고려 않은 오직 건물만을 고려한 한계점이 있으며, 해당 한계를 포함해 수행하면 더욱 포괄적인 연구가 될 것이다.

Investigation of Applying Technical Measures for Improving Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) for KCS and KVLCC2

  • While extensive research is being conducted to reduce greenhouse gases in industrial fields, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has implemented regulations to actively reduce CO2 emissions from ships, such as energy efficiency design index (EEDI), energy efficiency existing ship index (EEXI), energy efficiency operational indicator (EEOI), and carbon intensity indicator (CII). These regulations play an important role for the design and operation of ships. However, the calculation of the index and indicator might be complex depending on the types and size of the ship. Here, to calculate the EEDI of two target vessels, first, the ships were set as Deadweight (DWT) 50K container and 300K very large crude-oil carrier (VLCC) considering the type and size of those ships along with the engine types and power. Equations and parameters from the marine pollution treaty (MARPOL) Annex VI, IMO marine environment protection committee (MEPC) resolution were used to estimate the EEDI and their changes. Technical measures were subsequently applied to satisfy the IMO regulations, such as reducing speed, energy saving devices (ESD), and onboard CO2 capture system. Process simulation model using Aspen Plus v10 was developed for the onboard CO2 capture system. The obtained results suggested that the fuel change from Marine diesel oil (MDO) to liquefied natural gas (LNG) was the most effective way to reduce EEDI, considering the limited supply of the alternative clean fuels. Decreasing ship speed was the next effective option to meet the regulation until Phase 4. In case of container, the attained EEDI while converting fuel from Diesel oil (DO) to LNG was reduced by 27.35%. With speed reduction, the EEDI was improved by 21.76% of the EEDI based on DO. Pertaining to VLCC, 27.31% and 22.10% improvements were observed, which were comparable to those for the container. However, for both vessels, additional measure is required to meet Phase 5, demanding the reduction of 70%. Therefore, onboard CO2 capture system was designed for both KCS (Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering (KRISO) container ship) and KVLCC2 (KRISO VLCC) to meet the Phase 5 standard in the process simulation. The absorber column was designed with a diameter of 1.2-3.5 m and height of 11.3 m. The stripper column was 0.6-1.5 m in diameter and 8.8-9.6 m in height. The obtained results suggested that a combination of ESD, speed reduction, and fuel change was effective for reducing the EEDI; and onboard CO2 capture system may be required for Phase 5.

추적식 영농형 태양광발전시스템 구축에 따른 음영별 하부작물 벼(Oryza sativa L.)의 생육비교 (Comparative Analysis of Growth and Development of Paddy Rice (Oryza sativa L.) by Light Intensity under Farm-type Solar Photovoltanic Power Station)

  • 영농형 태양광발전은 태양의 일사량을 전기발전과 영농에 공유하는(solar-sharing) 방식이다. 본 연구는 신재생에너지의 활용의 극대화를 위하여 추적식 영농형 태양광발전시스템을 구축하고 시설하부에서 일정 기간 재배중인 작물의 하부 환경과 생육을 조사하여 영농형태양광 하부작물개발을 위한 기초자료를 확보하고자 하였다. 구축한 추적식 영농형 태양광발전시스템은 4열 6단의 24장 모듈(8m × 6m)을 가지며, 발전시설 중심축 기둥 간 중심간격 14m로 단일지주식 스크루 공법으로 순천대학교 부속농장 답작포(순천시 죽평리)에 설치하여 하부 환경과 하부작물의 생육을 조사하였다. 태양광발전시설 하부작물의 생육을 조사하기 위하여 순천 농협육묘장에서 벼(신동진)를 육묘하여 2022년 6월 16일 이앙하였다. 태양광발전시스템 하부 지역을 4방위 방향에 따라 강음영(중심축으로부터 1~3m), 중음영(5m), 약음영(7~9m) 구역으로 설정하여 생육을 조사한 결과, 방위에 따른 초장은 남쪽에서 음영간 차이가 상대적으로 낮게 나타났으며, 1번기 태양광 발전시설에 의하여 음영이 중첩된 2번기 시설의 동쪽에서 대조구 대비 초장이 상대적으로 낮은 경향을 나타내었다. 음영강도에 따른 초장은 대체로 강음영구에서 낮게 나타났으며, 약음영구로 갈수록 높게 나타났다. 엽수는 방위에 따라서, 그리고 음영의 강도에 따른 차이가 초장에 비하여 작게 나타났다. 출수기의 경우 방위별로는 남쪽에서 음영별 차이가 작게 나타났으며, 음영강도에 따라서 차이를 보였다. 또한 태양광시설 하부에 데이터수집장치(Model 1650, Spctrum Technonogies, USA)를 설치하여 음영에 따른 토양전도도, 토양함수량, 토양온도, par light 등 생육환경을 조사, 비교하였다.

심해 자율무인잠수정 우라시마의 잠항시험에서 취득된 북 구마노 분지 해저 선상지 시스템의 음향 영상 (Acoustic images of the submarine fan system of the northern Kumano Basin obtained during the experimental dives of the Deep Sea AUV URASHIMA)

  • 자율무인잠수정은 해수면탐사선에 비해 해저면에 더 가까이 접근할 수 있는 장점을 제공한다. 수심자료, 해저면 물질 정보와 해저면 하부 영상을 얻기 위해서는 자율무인잠수정에 탑재된 다중빔음향즉심기, 해저면영상탐사기 및 천부지층탐사기 등이 유용하게 사용된다. 일본해양연구개발기구는 3000m급 자율무인잠수정 우라시마를 개발하였다. 잠수정의 전력공급용 연료전지시스템의 공학적 개발과 시험과정을 거쳐 우라시마에는 신형 리튬이온전지 시스템이 설치되었다. 잠수정은 초기 공학적인 업무에서 과학적 사용 목적으로 개량되었다. 다양한 과학장비들이 추가되었고 2006년부터 과학적인 목적의 임무수행을 위한 잠항시험이 수행되었다. 2007년 시험운항에서 일본 기이반도 해역 북구마노분지 부근에서 우라시마의 해저면영상탐사기와 천부지층탐사기를 이용하여 고해상 음향영상자료를 획득하였다. 후방산란강도 도면에서는 많은 암설류가 확인되었고, 천부지층탐사단면에서 연구해역의 북동쪽 끝 부근의 하부구조가 확인되었다. 이러한 특징은 최신 선상지의 형성과 관련된 구조를 암시한다. 그러나 남서 해역에서는 해저면 하부 ~20 ms 부근에서 강한 반사층이 존재하는데, 이는 삭박특징으로 해석되며 현재는 더 젊은 해저 퇴적물로 덮여있다. 잠수정의 성능은 지속적으로 향상되고, 우라시마를 활용하여 많은 유용한 결과가 얻어질 것으로 기대된다.

Excimer-Based White Phosphorescent OLEDs with High Efficiency

  • There are several ways to demonstrate white organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) for displays and solid state lighting applications. Among these approaches are the stacked three primary or two complementary colors light-emitting layers, multiple-doped emissive layer, and excimer and exciplex emission [1-10]. We report on white phosphorescent excimer devices by using two light emitting materials based on platinum complexes. These devices showed a peak EQE of 15.7%, with an EQE of 14.5% (17 lm/W) at $500\;cd/m^2$, and a noticeable improvement in both the CIE coordinates (0.381, 0.401) and CRI (81). Devices with the structure ITO/PEDOT:PSS/TCTA (30 nm)/26 mCPy: 12% FPt (10 nm) /26 mCPy: 2% Pt-4 (15 nm)/BCP (40 nm)/CsF/Al [device 1], ITO/PEDOT:PSS/TCTA (30 nm)/26 mCPy: 2% Pt-4 (15 nm)/26 mCPy: 12% FPt (10 nm)/BCP (40 nm)/CsF/Al [device 2], and ITO/PEDOT:PSS/TCTA (30 nm)/26 mCPy: 2% Pt-4: 12% FPt (25 nm)/BCP (40 nm)/CsF/Al [device 3] were fabricated. In these cases, the emissive layer was either the double-layer of 26 mCPy:12% FPt and 15 nm 26 mCPy: 2% Pt-4, or the single layer of 26mCPy with simultaneous doping of Pt-4 and FPt. Device characterization indicates that the CIE coordinates/CRI of device 2 were (0.341, 0.394)/75, (0.295, 0.365)/70 at 5 V and 7 V, respectively. Significant change in EL spectra with the drive voltage was observed for device 2 indicating a shift in the carrier recombination zone, while relatively stable EL spectra was observed for device 1. This indicates a better charge trapping in Pt-4 doped layers [10]. On the other hand, device 3 having a single light-emitting layer (doped simultaneously) emitted a board spectrum combining emission from the Pt-4 monomer and FPt excimer. Moreover, excellent color stability independent of the drive voltage was observed in this case. The CIE coordinates/CRI at 4 V ($40\;cd/m^2$) and 7 V ($7100\;cd/m^2$) were (0.441, 0.421)/83 and (0.440, 0.427)/81, respectively. A balance in the EL spectra can be further obtained by lowering the doping ratio of FPt. In this regard, devices with FPt concentration of 8% (denoted as device 4) were fabricated and characterized. A shift in the CIE coordinates of device 4 from (0.441, 0.421) to (0.382, 0.401) was observed due to an increase in the emission intensity ratio of Pt-4 monomer to FPt excimer. It is worth noting that the CRI values remained above 80 for such device structure. Moreover, a noticeable stability in the EL spectra with respect to changing bias voltage was measured indicating a uniform region for exciton formation. A summary of device characteristics for all cases discussed above is shown in table 1. The forward light output in each case is approximately $500\;cd/m^2$. Other parameters listed are driving voltage (Bias), current density (J), external quantum efficiency (EQE), power efficiency (P.E.), luminous efficiency (cd/A), and CIE coordinates. To conclude, a highly efficient white phosphorescent excimer-based OLEDs made with two light-emitting platinum complexes and having a simple structure showed improved EL characteristics and color properties. The EQE of these devices at $500\;cd/m^2$ is 14.5% with a corresponding power efficiency of 17 lm/W, CIE coordinates of (0.382, 0.401), and CRI of 81.

국내 전철 및 가전제품을 대상으로 한 전자장 수준 실태조사 (A survey on the EMF Levels of Study and Electric Appliances in Korea)

  • The purposes of this study was to collect, analyze, and describe the MF exposure levels from subways in Korea and to measure and evaluate the MF levels generated from electric appliances used at general homes. The target subway lines were Seoul Metropolitan Line 1 to Line 8, Bundang Line, Incheon Line, Daegu Line, Gwangju Line, and Busan Line 1 and Line 2. We measured at each station in those subway lines and, all the train types (pantograph-equipped, motor-equipped, and common), and platform types(facing and isolating) were investigated by the distance(80, 200, 400 cm) from the train on 19 targeted subway lines using 3 magnetic field measuring devices (EMDEXII, Enertech Co.) during the survey from January till October, 2004. On the other hand, the levels of the 60Hz magnetic fields generated from 14 items of home electric appliances such as electric blankets, hair dryers, electric razors, etc. were measured at 10 general homes using 5 EMDEXII meters with a sampling interval of 1.5 second by the distance(surface, 30, 50, 100, 300cm ) from the target electric appliances. The survey results in the whole subway lines examined in this study were as follows; Seoul Metropolitan Line 4 using AC(alternating current) power source showed the highest mean value of $2.85{\mu}T$, followed by Seoul Metropolitan Line 1 running between Seoul and Incheon using AC($2.78{\mu}T$), Seoul Metropolitan Line 1 between Seoul and Uijongbu using AC($2.73{\mu}T$), Bundang Line using AC($1.79{\mu}T$), Seoul Metropolitan Line 1 connected from Yongsan using AC($1.67{\mu}T$), Seoul Metropolitan Line 1 between Seoul and Suwon using AC($0.79{\mu}T$), and so on. In general, the intensity of the magnetic field in the subway systems in Korea was significantly higher when using AC($2.14{\pm}0.91{\mu}T$) than when using DC($0.29{\pm}0.44{\mu}T$) power source. Among the home electric appliances examined, microwave ovens showed the highest mean value of $7.69{\mu}T$, followed by hair dryers($6.47{\mu}T$), vacuum cleaners($5.27{\mu}T$), televisions ($2.26{\mu}T$), electric blankets($1.38{\mu}T$), personal computers ($0.81{\mu}T$), and so on. Two items of electric appliances showed the excess value of $0.2{\mu}T$ at the distance of 30cm in the MF exposure level; electric razors $1.58{\pm}2.13{\mu}T$ and vacuum cleaners $0.48{\pm}0.44{\mu}T$. As a whole, this study showed a tendency that the shift of the MF levels according to the increase of distance from the electric appliances was lower than those of the results surveyed in UK and USA. As a result, this study is expected to suggest meaningful data for the future study in exposure assessment of magnetic fields and for the establishment of guidelines for subways and electric appliances in Korea. More detailed and large scaled exposure assessment studies should be performed continuously to get the various and useful information on health risk assessment of MFs in Korea.
