  • Voltage collapse is a serious concern to the electirc utility industry. It is common to associate steady-state stability with the ability of the transmission system to transport real power and to associate voltage collapse with the inability to provide reactive power at the necessary locations within the system. An algorithm to directly calculate the critical point of system voltage collapse was presented by the authors. The method (based on the ordinary power flow equations and explicit requirement of singularity of the Jacobian matrix) is basically one degree of freedom with proper load distribution factors. This paper suggests a modified algorithm to increase the degree of freedom, introducing the nonlinear programming technique. The objective function is a distance measure between the present operating point and the closest voltage collapse point. Knowledge of the distance and the most vulnarable bus from the voltage collapse point of view may be used as a useful index for the secure system operation.

  • Recently electrical industry has been rapidly restructured by deregulation in the developed countries. The voltage stability problem of a power system is associated with a rapid voltage drop due to heavy load and it occurs because of inadequate reactive power supply at some critical buses. More effective power system control means for line flow and bus voltage are required for applying FACTS. In this paper Jacobian method used to study on the voltage stability, The Jacobian method is to check the eigenvalue of the load flow Jacobian matrix. If the power system is unstable, one of the eigenvalues, at leasL has crossed the imaginary axis. This paper demonstrate enhancement of ATC by application of STATCOM at WSCC 9-bus system.

  • With the increasing concerns on noise and vibration in hydraulic fluid power systems, it is important to find better way to reduce noise and vibration. In this study, the authors survey former researches on hose(viscoelastic tube) modeling in advance. And a summary of several existing methods for measuring the speed of sound in the fluid in pipes is presented. Their basic principles, advantages and limitations are compared. And The authors suggest a far simple identification procedure to obtain wave speed in hose by just using an experimental pressure data for the object tube with hose. In the new procedure, flow in hose is basically modeled by transfer matrix method, and wave speed in hose is obtained as data in frequency series. The wave speed in hose as data in frequency series will be used to compute the pressure pulsation attenuation in hydraulic pipe systems. The computed results are compared with the experimental ones, and the validity of the new procedure to obtain wave speed in hose is confirmed

  • A reinforced hydraulic hoses, caiied a resonator hoses, with fixible metal tube are commonly used in automotive power steering hydraulic systems to attenuate and eliminate the objectionable fluid borne noise(pressure ripple) or vibration produced by a pump or steering gear. To achieve better nose attenuation in automotile vehicles, the investigations on propagation and attenuation characteristics of fluid borne pressure ripple in power steering hydraulic ciruit are required. So, this paper descibes a mathematical model of hydraulic hoses to support design the power steering hydraulic circuit and analyze the attenuation characteristics of flow and pressure ripples. The model is based on the transfer matrix approach. The experimental results show that the pulsation attenuation characteristics of hydraulic house is remarkably affected by the flexible metal tube inserted coaxially inside a hydraulic hose with a finite length as well as viscoelastic properties of house wall. It is also shown that the predicted results bymodel proposed here agree well with the measured results over a wide frequency range. These results will assist in the modeling and design of hydraulic hoses, and hear, should provide a means for designing a quieter automotive power steering hydraulic systems.

  • In power system, economic dispatch problem is to minimize fuel cost with inequality constraints of generator output. To solve this problem it is very important to express power loss equation that have Quadratic function of generator power included B-coefficient. This paper presents a method in determining B-coefficient by use A-matrix that is calculated by power flow considering voltage dependent static load model. The proposed algorithm is tested with IEEE 6 bus sample system, which shows the result in each cases by the change of load component factor.

  • When predicting unsteady flow and pressure fields around a structure in a turbulent boundary layer by Large Eddy Simulation (LES), velocity fluctuations of turbulence (inflow turbulence), which reproduce statistical characteristics of the turbulent boundary layer, must be given at the inflow boundary. However, research has just started on development of a method for generating inflow turbulence that satisfies the prescribed turbulence statistics, and many issues still remain to be resolved. In our previous study, we proposed a method for generating inflow turbulence and confirmed its applicability by LES of an isotropic turbulence. In this study, the generation method was applied to a turbulent boundary layer developed over a flat plate, and the reproducibility of turbulence statistics predicted by LES computation was examined. Statistical characteristics of a turbulent boundary layer developed over a flat plate were investigated by a wind tunnel test for modeling the cross-spectral density matrix for use as targets of inflow turbulence generation for LES computation. Furthermore, we investigated how the degree of correspondence of the cross-spectral density matrix of the generated inflow turbulence with the target cross-spectral density matrix estimated by the wind tunnel test influenced the LES results for the turbulent boundary layer. The results of this study confirmed that the reproduction of cross-spectra of the normal components of the inflow turbulence generation is very important in reproducing power spectra, spatial correlation and turbulence statistics of wind velocity in LES.

  • Newton's OPF algorithm, for each iteration, solves with second order approximation of Lagraqngian function and sparse matrix technique. When load model is applied to this technique, load voltages have tendency to be fixed at lower limit. It makes the solution inadequte. In this paper, reference bus voltage specification technique suggested to make adequate load voltage. This method is verified useful 6-bus Ward-Hale sample system.

  • Recently, much attention has been paid to problems which is concerned with voltage instability phenomena and much works on these phenomena have been made. In this paper, by substituting d $P_{k}$ d $e_{k}$ ( $v^{\rarw}$= e +j f) for $P_{k}$ in conventional load flow, direct method for finging the limit of voltage stability is proposed. Here, by using the fact that taylor se- ries expansion in .DELTA. $P_{k}$ and .DELTA. $Q_{k}$ is terminated at the second-order terms, constraint equation (d $P_{k}$ d $e_{k}$ =0) and power flow equations are formulated with new variables .DSLTA. e and .DELTA.f, so partial differentiations for constraint equation are precisely calculated. The fact that iteratively calculated equations are reformulated with new variables .DELTA.e and .DELTA.f means that limit of voltage stability can be traced precisely through recalculation of jacobian matrix at e+.DELTA.e and f+.DELTA.f state. Then, during iterative process divergence may be avoid. Also, as elements of Hessian mat rix are constant, its computations are required only once during iterative process. Results of application of the proposed method to sample systems are presented. (author). 13 refs., 11 figs., 4 tab.

  • This paper presents a new algorithm in formulating a performance index for contingency selection method considering voltage security. Security limits defined-in terms of real power line flows and voltage magnitudes are considered in normalized subspaces where in critical contingencies are identified by a filtering algorithm using the infinite norm. Two types of limits, warning limit and emergency limit, are introduced for voltage and line flow. Usually performance indices have been constructed for real power line flows and voltages with each different criterion. This paper, however, presents a method that constructs them with the same criterion in use of the norm properties, so that we can assess security considering both of them. Rapid contingency simulation is performed using one iteration of fast decoupled load flows with LMML(Inverse Matrix Modification Lemma).

  • A new fast algorithm for computing the discrete cosine transform(DCT) Is developed decomposing N-point DCT into an N /2-point DCT and two N /4 point transforms(transpose of an N /4-point DCT. TN/t'and)It has an important characteristic that in this method, the roundoff noise power for a fixed point arithmetic can be reduced significantly with respect to the wellknown fast algorithms of Lee and Chen. since most coefficients for multiplication are distributed at the nodes close to the output and far from the input in the signal flow graph In addition, it also shows three other versions of factorization of DCT matrix with the same number of operations but with the different distributions of multiplication coefficients.
