  • The importance of power system stability has been emphasized with an increase of wind energy penetration in the power system. Accordingly, the guarantee on various control capabilities, including active and reactive power control of wind farms, was regarded as the most important aspect for the connection to the grid. To control the wind farm active power, the wind farm controller was introduced. The wind farm controller decides the power set points for each wind turbine generating unit and each wind turbine generating unit controls its power according to the set points from the wind farm controller. Therefore, co-relationship between wind farm controller and wind turbine controllers are significantly important. This paper proposes some control methods of wind farm active power control based on modified wind turbine control for power system stability and structures to connect wind turbine controllers to wind farm controller. Besides, this paper contributes to development of control algorithm considering not only electrical components but also mechanical components. The proposed contributions were verified by full simulation including power electronics and turbulent wind speed. The scenario refers to the active power control regulations of the Eltra and Elkraft system in Denmark.

  • In this paper, we investigate the effect of power control step size on the performance of the SIC scheme in DS/CDMA systems. We investigate the average power control iteration and its standard deviation and evaluate the outage performance for several different values of power control step size. Because the SIC scheme requires fine control in the received signal power, the better outage performance is obtained fer the smaller power control step size. However, the smaller power control step size requires larger amount of power control iteration in order to make the power control converge to the steady state. Under the simulated environment, the proper power control step size is about 0.3-0.4dB from both convergence speed of power control algorithm and outage performance points of view.

  • A well-performed core power control to track load changes is crucial in pressurized water reactor (PWR) nuclear power stations. It is challenging to keep the core power stable at the desired value within acceptable error bands for the safety demands of the PWR due to the sensitivity of nuclear reactors. In this paper, a state-space model predictive control (MPC) method was applied to the control of the core power. The model for core power control was based on mathematical models of the reactor core, the MPC model, and quadratic programming (QP). The mathematical models of the reactor core were based on neutron dynamic models, thermal hydraulic models, and reactivity models. The MPC model was presented in state-space model form, and QP was introduced for optimization solution under system constraints. Simulations of the proposed state-space MPC control system in PWR were designed for control performance analysis, and the simulation results manifest the effectiveness and the good performance of the proposed control method for core power control.

  • This paper is written for the development and application of boiler fuel control algorithm and distributed control system of coal-fired power plant by the steps of design, coding, simulation test, site installation and site commissioning test. Fuel control algorithm has the upper algorithm and it is boiler master control algorithm that controls the fuel, feed water, air by generation output demand. Generation output demand by power load influences fuel control. Because fuel can not be supplied fast to the furnace of boiler, fuel control algorithm was designed adequately to control the steam temperature and to prevent the explosion of boiler. This control algorithms were coded to the control programs of distributed control systems which were developed domestically for the first time. Simulator for coal-fired power plant was used in the test step. After all of distributed control systems were connected to the simulator, the tests of the actual power plant were performed successfully. The reliability was obtained enough to be installed at the actual power plant and all of distributed control systems had been installed at power plant and all signals were connected mutually. Tests for reliability and safety of plant operation were completed successfully and power plant is being operated commercially. It is expected that the project result will contribute to the safe operation of domestic new and retrofit power plants, the self-reliance of coal-fired power plant control technique and overseas business for power plant.

  • This paper was developed a monitoring and control system to use reactive power control algorithm. This algorithm could be improved voltage stability in power system. This method was controlled the voltage for stability improvement, effective usage of reactive power, and the increase of the power quality. PMS(Power Management System) has been calculate voltage sensitivity, and control reactive power compensation device. The voltage control was used to the FACTS, MSC/MSR(Mechanically Switched Capacitors/Reactors), and tap of transformer in power system. The reactive power devices in power system were control by voltage sensitivity ranking of each bus. Also, to secure momentary reactive power, it had been controlled as the rest of reactive power in the each bus. In here, reactive power has been MSC/MSR. The simulation result, First control was voltage control as fast response control of FACTS. Second control was voltage control through the necessary reactive power calculation as slow response control of MSR/MSR. Third control was secured momentary reactive reserve power. This control was method by cooperative control between FACTS and MSR/MSC. Therefore, the proposed algorithm was had been secured the suitable reactive reserve power in power system.

  • This paper proposes active power control and frequency support control schemes of wind turbine generation system by using modified Maximum Power Point Tracking(MPPT) of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator(PMSG). Most wind turbine generation system is completely decoupled from the power system and power output control with pitch control. According to the frequency deviation, however, MPPT control can not contribute to the frequency change of the power system due to its active power output control. For solving this, the de-loaded(DL) control scheme is constructed for the frequency support control, which is based on applying the active power output control in the rotor speed control of PMSG. The rotor speed by used in the proposed DL control scheme is increased more than the optimal rotor speed of MPPT, and then this speed improvement increases the saved kinetic energy(KE). In order to show the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme, the case studies have been performed using the PSCAD/EMTDC. The results show that the proposed active power output control scheme(DL control and KE discharge control) works properly and the frequency response ability of the power system can be also improved with the frequency support of wind farm.

  • This paper presents a new method of local voltage control to achieve coordinative control among UPFC(Unified Power Flow Controller) and conventional reactive compensation equipments, such as switched-shunt and ULTC(Under-Load Tap Changing) transformer. Reactive power control has various difficult aspects to control because of difficulty of system analysis. Recently, the progress of power electronics technologies has lead to commercial availability of several FACTS(Flexible AC Transmission System) devices. The UPFC(Unified Power Flow Controller) simultaneously allows the independent control of active and reactive power flows as well as control of the voltage profile. When conventional reactive power sources and UPFC are used to control system voltage, the UPFC reacts to the voltage deviation faster than the conventional reactive power sources. Keeping reactive power reserve in an UPFC during steady-state operation is always needed to provide reactive power requirements during emergencies. Therefore, coordination control among UPFC and conventional reactive power sources is needed. This paper describe the method to keep or control the voltage of power system of local area and to manege reactive power reserve using PSS/E with Python. The result of simulation shows that the proposed method can control the local bus voltage within the given voltage limit and manege reactive power reserve.

  • We developed an achievable control logic for the reactor power level during a power maneuvering event and set up some constraints for the control of the reactor power in a conceptual sodium-cooled fast reactor (KALIMER-600) that was developed at KAERI. For simulating the dynamic behaviors of the plant, we developed a fast-running performance analysis code. Through various simulations of the power maneuvering event, we evaluated some suggested control logic for the reactor power and found an achievable control logic. The objective of the control logic is to search for the position of the control rods that would keep the average temperature of the primary pool constant and, concurrently, minimize the power deviation between the reactor and the BOP cycle during the power maneuvering. In addition, the flow rates of the primary pool and the intermediate loop should be changed according to the power level in order to not violate the constraints set up in this study. Also, we evaluated some movement speeds of the control rods and found that a fast movement of the control rods might cause the power to fluctuate during the power maneuvering event. We suggested a reasonable movement speed of the control rods for the developed control logic.

  • The paper is related to smart maximum power system based on program logic. Especially, this system compares the total demand power with the target power by using the signal from the digital kilo watt meter. Based on the power information by the maximum power control equipment the consumed future power is anticipated. In addition, through consumed future power the controllable target power is set, and it applies on the maximum power control equipment.
