  • Power system analyses, which involve the handling of massive data volumes, necessitate the use of effective visualization methods to facilitate analysis and assist the user in obtaining a clear understanding of the present state of the system. This paper introduces an interface that compensates for the limitations of the visualization modules of dynamic security assessment tools, such as PSS/e and TSAT, for power system variables including generator rotor angle and frequency. The compensation is made possible through the automatic provision of dynamic simulation data in visualized and tabular form for better data intuition, thereby considerably reducing the redundant manual operation and time required for data analysis. The interface also determines whether the generators are stable through a generator instability algorithm that scans simulation data and checks for an increase in swing or divergence. The proposed visualization methods are applied to the dynamic simulation results for contingencies in the Korean Electric Power Corporation system, and have been tested by power system researchers to verify the effectiveness of the data visualization interface.

  • These days, it is not easy to construct the transmission line because of the environmental association activity, a civil appeal, etc. To solve these kinds of difficulties, the program with leading-edge IT technology, such as GIS, 3 dimensions CAD, computer graphic, etc., is developed to be more transparent and objective in the design stage of the transmission line and the selection stage of the transmission line route. Comparing this program with previous methods, this program is composed of the environmental evaluation program, data producing program for analysis and selecting line route program because it is not possible to conduct those kinds of work without any help from the computer and well-developed program. To confirm the performance of the program, the result from the program and the human were compared. Therefore, the result from the program was same as the result conducted by human. In addition, the program makes the selection of the transmission line route easier by checking the mountainside, lumbering, the estimated cost of the tower construction, etc. in real-time.

  • This paper proposes a method to detect the misfired cylinder using a new misfire detection index. The new method of misfired cylinder is a comparison of pressure gradient during the blowdown period of exhaust stroke. If a misfire occurs, the engine will he lost some power and consumes the more fuel and the torque will be unsteady. Most of all, the misfire affects a bad influence of the 3-way catalyst and emits unburned hydrocarbon in the air. To prevent these unusual phenomena and eliminate the factor of the environmental pollution, it is important to detect the misfired cylinder. To do the experiment, set up the assist device on the manifold. This assist device is not deformed for conventional exhaust manifold and installed in the end of the exhaust manifold. Experimental results showed that the method using the mean gradient pressure index is proven to be effective in the detection of misfired cylinder on gasoline engine regardless loads and revolutions of the engine.

  • Low-k wafer engraving process has been investigated by using UV pico-second laser with high repetition rate. Wavelength and repetition rate of laser used in this study are 355nm and 80MHz, respectively. Main parameters of low-k wafer engraving processes are laser power, work speed, assist gas flow rate, and protective coating to eliminate debris. Results show that engraving qualities of low-k layer by using UV pico-second pulse width and high repetition rate had better kerf edge and higher work speed, compared to one by conventional laser with nano-second pulse width and low repetition rate in the range of kHz. Assist gas and protective coating to eliminate debris gave effects on the quality of engraving edge. Total engraving width and depth are obtained less than $20{\mu}m$ and $10{\mu}m$ at more than 500mm/sec work speed, respectively. We believe that engraving method by using UV pico-second laser with high repetition rate is useful one to give high work speed of laser material process.

  • In this study high power Nd:YAG laser welding of structural steel was investigated. For the test steel blocks of $50{\times}50{\times}200mm$ were cut and machined, and bead-on-plate weld was made on the machined surface. Argon, nitrogen, helium, dry air or mixed gases were used to find the effect of shielding conditions on the bead formation. Results demonstrated that there were Fe I rich region and Fe II rich region in the laser induced plasma column based on the spectral analysis with S-2000 field spectrometer The Fe I region was located at the root of the column near keyhole opening. On the other hand, Fe II region was found at the middle of the plasma column. In the Nd:YAG laser welding, Fe I region emitted continuum which had peak value at wave length of around 710nm, and Fe II region had the peak at 580nm. In the welding of steel by $CO_2$ laser, however, no continuum was observed. There showed two groups of strong spikes in the $CO_2$ laser welding; the first group was displayed at the wave band of 450-560nm. This spike group emitted stronger intensity of light and sharper peaks than those group at 680-800nm.

  • The ASSERT-PV subchannel code developed by AECL has been applied as a design-assist tool to the advanced $CANDU^{(R)1}$ reactor fuel bundle. Based primarily on the $CANFLEX^{(R)2}$ fuel bundle, several geometry changes (such as element sizes and pitch-circle diameters of various element rings) were examined to optimize the dryout power and pressure-drop performances of the new fuel bundle. An experiment was performed to obtain dryout power measurements for verification of the ASSERT-PV code predictions. It was carried out using an electrically heated, Refrigerant-134a cooled, fuel bundle string simulator. The axial power profile of the simulator was uniform, while the radial power profile of the element rings was varied simulating profiles in bundles with various fuel compositions and burn-ups. Dryout power measurements are predicted closely using the ASSERT-PV code, particularly at low flows and low pressures, but are overpredicted at high flows and high pressures. The majority of data shows that dryout powers are underpredicted at low inlet-fluid temperatures but overpredicted at high inlet-fluid temperatures.

  • In order to improve the coverage and achieve massive spectrum access, non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technology is applied in millimeter wave massive multiple-input multiple-output (mMIMO) communication network. However, the power assumption of active sensors greatly limits its wide applications. Recently, Intelligent Reconfigurable Surface (IRS) technology has received wide attention due to its ability to reduce power consumption and achieve passive transmission. In this paper, spectral efficiency maximum problem in the millimeter wave mMIMO-NOMA system with IRS is considered. The sparse RF chain antenna structure is designed at the base station based on continuous phase modulation. Furthermore, a joint optimization problem for power allocation, power splitting, analog precoding and IRS reconfigurable matrices are constructed, which aim to achieve the maximum spectral efficiency of the system under the constraints of user's quality of service, minimum energy harvesting and total transmit power. A three-stage iterative algorithm is proposed to solve the above mentioned non-convex optimization problems. We obtain the local optimal solution by fixing some optimization parameters firstly, then introduce the relaxation variables to realize the global optimal solution. Simulation results show that the spectral efficiency of the proposed scheme is superior compared to the conventional system with phase shifter modulation. It is also demonstrated that IRS can effectively assist mmWave communication and improve the system spectral efficiency.

  • This paper describes an intelligent ankle assistive robot which provides assistive power to reduce ankle torque based on an analysis of ankle motion and muscle patterns during walking on level and sloped floors. The developed robot can assist ankle muscle power by driving an electric geared motor at the exact timing through the use of an accelerometer that detects gait phase and period, and a potentiometer to measure floor slope angle. A simple muscle assistive link mechanism is proposed to convert the motor torque into the foot assistive force. In particular, this mechanism doesn't restrain the wearer's ankle joint; hence, there is no danger of injury if the motor malfunctions. During walking, the link mechanism pushes down the top of the foot to assist the ankle torque, and it can also lift the foot by inversely driving the linkage, so this robot is useful for foot drop patients. The developed robot and control algorithm are experimentally verified through walking experiments and EMG (Electromyography) measurements.
