The sensory characteristics of bread prepared with the addition of Angelica plant(Bakluncho) and Jujube(Daechu) powders were investigated The moisture, crude protein, as reducing sugar and vitamin C content of Angelica plant(Bakluncho) powders were 7.78%, 6.07%, 7.37%, 6.13% and 50.10 mg% respectively, and those of Jujube(Daechu) powders were 11.19%, 4.43%, 2.36%, 14.23% and 49.20 mg% respectively. Lightness value decreased but redness and yellowness values increased with increasing natural pigment powders content. The mechanical hardness of the bread decreased with the addition of 3% Angelica plant(Bakluncho) powders, but increased with the addition of 1% and 5% Angelica plant(Bakluncho) powders. The mechanical hardness of bread decreased with the addition of 1% and 3% Jujube(Daechu) powders, but increased with the addition of 5% Jujube(Daechu) powders. In sensory characteristics, the crust color, mb color, moistness and springiness decreased, but aroma and hardness increased with the increasing natural pigment powders content. The savory taste and overall quality of breads with 1% Angelica plant(Bakluncho) powders and 3% Jujube(Daechu) powders were higher than those of the control without my addition. A negative correlation was observed between Hunter's color value and overall quality of the bread prepared with addition of Angelica plant(Bakluncho) and Jujube(Daechu) powders.
In this study, intermediate-mixed powders were prepared by loading zirconia powders initially in a ball-mill jar and loading alumina powders afterward; the initial-mixed powders were produced by loading zirconia and alumina powders together in the ball-mill jar. The effect of such differences in mixing method on the mechanical properties was investigated. In intermediate-mixed powders, the volume fraction of large particles slightly increased and, simultaneously, zirconia particles formed agglomerates that, due to early ball-mill loading of the zirconia powders only, were more dispersed than were the initial-mixed powders. For the intermediate-mixed powders, zirconia agglomerates were destroyed more quickly than were initial-mixed powders, so the number of dispersed zirconia particles rose and the inhibitory effect of densification due to the addition of a second phase was more obvious. In the microstructure of intermediate-mixed powders, zirconia grains were homogeneously dispersed and grain growth by coalescence was found to occur with increasing sintering temperature. For the initial-mixed powders, large zirconia grains formed by localized early-densification on the inside contacts of some zirconia agglomerates were observed in the early stages of sintering. The intermediate-mixed powders had slightly lower hardness values as a whole but higher fracture toughness compared to that of the initial-mixed powders.
Blue-emitting BAM:Eu phosphor powders were formed by post-treatment of precursor powders with hollow or dense morphologies. The morphologies of the precursor powders obtained by spray pyrolysis were controlled by changing the preparation conditions and by changing the type of spray solution. The effects of the morphologies of the precursor powders on the characteristics of the BAM : Eu phosphor powders reacted with $AlF_3$ flux were investigated. Precursor powders with a spherical shape and a hollow morphology produced BAM : Eu phosphor powders with a plate-like morphology, a fine size and a narrow size distribution. On the other hand, precursor powders with a spherical shape and dense morphology produced BAM : Eu phosphor powders with a plate-like morphology and a large size. $AlF_3$ flux improved the photoluminescence intensities of the BAM : Eu phosphor powders. The photoluminescence intensity of the fine-sized BAM : Eu phosphor powders with a plate-like morphology was 90% of the commercial product under vacuum ultraviolet conditions.
Al-Si-SiC composite powders with intra-granular SiC particles were prepared by a gas atomization process. The composite powders were mixed with Al-Zn-Mg alloy powders as a function of weight percent. Those mixture powders were compacted with the pressure of 700 MPa and then sintered at the temperature of $565-585^{\circ}C$. T6 heat treatment was conducted to increase their mechanical properties by solid-solution precipitates. Each relative density according to the optimized sintering temperature of those powders were determined as 96% at $580^{\circ}C$ for Al-Zn-Mg powders (composition A), 97.9% at $575^{\circ}C$ for Al-Zn-Mg powders with 5 wt.% of Al-Si-SiC powders (composition B), and 98.2% at $570^{\circ}C$ for Al-Zn-Mg powders with 10 wt.% of Al-Si-SiC powders (composition C), respectively. Each hardness, tensile strength, and wear resistance test of those sintered samples was conducted. As the content of Al-Si-SiC powders increased, both hardness and tensile strength were decreased. However, wear resistance was increased by the increase of Al-Si-SiC powders. From these results, it was confirmed that Al-Si-SiC/Al-Zn-Mg composite could be highly densified by the sintering process, and thus the composite could have high wear resistance and tensile strength when the content of Al-Si-SiC composite powders were optimized.
Nickel powders were prepared under solvothermal condition by precipitation from metal nitrates with aqueous ammonium hydroxide. The powders were obtained at in a temperature range of $190-250^{\circ}C$ for 6h. The morphology and size of nickel powders were studied as a function of reaction temperature. The synthesis of nickel crystalline particles is possible under a solvothermal conditions in ethylene glycol solution. Characterization of the synthesized nickel powders were studied by XRD, SEM(FE-SEM) and TG/DSC. X-ray diffraction analysis of the synthesized powders indicated the formation of nickel structure after reaction. The average crystalline sizes of the synthesized nickel powders were in the range of 200-1000 nm; and the distribution of the powders was broad. The shape of the synthesized nickel particles was almost spherical. The morphology of synthesized nickel powders changed with reaction condition. It was possible to synthesize nickel powders directly in ethylene glycol without reducing agent.
Sintering behavior of nanostructured(NS) W-Cu powders prepared by mechanical alloying (MA) was investigated as a function of sintering temperature. MA NS W-2owt%Cu and W-3owt%Cu composite powders with the crystal size of 20-30 nm were annealed at 90$0^{\circ}C$, and thermal characteristics of those powders were investigated by DSC. Sintering behavior of MA NS W-Cu composite powders was investigated during the solid-state sintering and the Cu-liquid phase sintering. The new nanosintering phenonenon of MA W-Cu powders at solid-state sintering temperature was suggested to explain the W-grain growth in the inside of MA powders. The sintering densification of MA NS W-Cu powders was enhanced at Cu melting temperature by arrangement of MA powders, i.e., the first rearrangement of MA powders was occurred, and then the rearrangement of W-grains in the sintered parts was also took place during liquid-phase sintering, i.e., the second rearrangement was happened. Due to the double rearrangement process of MA NS W-Cu powders, the high sintered density with more than 96%o was obtained and the fine and high homogeneous state of W and Cu phases was achieved by sintering at 1200 $^{\circ}C$.
Nano-sized $BaNd_2Ti_5O_{14}$ powders were prepared by the spray pyrolysis process. Sucrose used as the organic additive enabled the formation of nano-sized $BaNd_2Ti_5O_{14}$ powders. The powders prepared from the spray solution without sucrose had a spherical shape, dense structure and micron size before and after calcination. However, the precursor powders prepared from the spray solution with sucrose had a large size, and hollow and porous morphology. The precursor powders had an amorphous crystal structure because of the short residence time of the powders inside the hot wall reactor. The complete decomposition of sucrose did not occur inside the hot wall reactor. Therefore, the precursor powders obtained from the spray solution with sucrose of 0.5M had a carbon content of 39.2wt.%. The powders obtained from the spray solution with sucrose of 0.5M had a slightly aggregated structure of nano-sized primary powders of $BaNd_2Ti_5O_{14}$ crystalline phase after calcination at $1000^{\circ}C$. The calcined powders turned into nano-sized $BaNd_2Ti_5O_{14}$ powders after milling. The mean size of the $BaNd_2Ti_5O_{14}$ powders was 125 nm.
Plasma sprayed ceramic coatings are widely used in various industrial fields to improve their properties or to reduce the production cost. The ceramic powders for plasma spray coating have been mainly manufactured by spray drying or fused+crushed process. In this study, chromium oxide which has better mechanical properties than those of the other ceramic was selected and agglomerated chromium oxide powders for plasma spray coating were produced by spray drying process with a various processing condition. The large hollow powders and the harsh surfaced powders are formed at high slurry feed rate more than 163 g/min. and low binder concentration less than 2wt%, respectively. These powders cause the considerable decrease of flowability and apparent density. The powders produced by spray drying process have the spherical shape with the mean size of 45 ${\mu}m$, but these are shown lower apparent density and flowability than the powders produced by fused+crushed powders. The plasma spray coated layers by spray dried powders are shown a different microstructure with that by fused+crushed powders in porosity shape, but their properties such as density, hardness and bond strength are similar.
Among many variables in processing the high performance MgB2 bulk superconductors, simple and important approach is to optimize the size dependence of the Mg & B raw powders. The present study is dedicated towards the variation in superconducting properties of MgB2 depending upon the various combination of Mg & B powders with the two different particle sizes respectively. From morphological investigation of the MgB2 samples, narrow and long pores are observed when the larger Mg powders are used, whereas it is rather like the oval shapes with the smaller Mg powders. Also, it can be seen that the connectivity of the MgB2 samples is much enhanced with the smaller size of the B powders. Jc-H properties of the MgB2 samples also indicate that the highest Jc can be obtained when using the smaller size of the B powder with the combination of the smaller Mg powders than that of the larger Mg powders. If the cases with the larger B powers, it is more favorable to select the larger Mg powders with the better Jc-H properties considering shorter diffusion length of Mg and more homogeneous mixture between the Mg & B powders.
Dried apple bugak, a traditional Korean dried food, was made using superfine powders of glutinous rice (GR), non-glutinous rice (NGR), and Wasabia koreana Nakai leaf (WKNL) as coating materials. This study aimed to determine the effect of coating sliced apples with superfine GR powders substitute with superfine NGR and WKNL powders at different ratios. Apple slices coated with superfine GR, NGR and WKNL powders were air-fried and compared with dried and air-fried apple bugak coated with superfine GR powders. The results showed that coating apple slices with superfine GR powders with the addition of superfine NGR and WKNL powders significantly increased oil absorption capacity and antioxidant activity but reduced viscosity, water absorption capacity, total polyphenol, total flavonoids contents, and improved color and structural improvements. Among all the samples, 80:20:5-treated (GR:NGR:WKNL) dried and air-fried bugak showed enhanced quality characteristics. Thus, the results suggested that coating apple slices by the substituting GR superfine rice powders with 10 or 20% of NGR and 3 or 5% of WKNL superfine powders produces good quality dried and air-fried bugak with nutritious characteristics.
