Fabrication of multi-layer $high-T_c$ superconducting tapes by a rolling process (로울링법을 이용한 고온 초전도 다심선재 제조)

  • High-T$_{c}$, superconducting wire is very important element for the application of electrical power systems. But it is very difficult to develope the long high T, wire with excellent properties. BiSrCaCuO multi-layer tapes are fabricated by a rolling method and pressing method sintered for several step at 840.deg. C. The critical current densities of 637 filament multi-layer tapes sintering 100 hours fabricated by the rolling method and pressing method are 1.3*10$^{4}$ A/cm$^{2}$ and 5.5*10$^{3}$ A/cm$^{2}$. The critical cur-rent densites of multi-layer tapes made by rolling method are found to be better than those fabricated by the powder-in-tube method and pressing process. As result, the rolling method is the best way to fabricated the multi-layer filament.t.

  • High-temperature superconductor of Bi-2212 system was fabricated by CFP(Centrifugal Forming Process). To make a uniform specimen slurry was prepared in the ratio of 7:3(powder : binder) and ball milled for 24 hours. Milled slurry was charged into a rotating mold with 450 rpm and dried at room temperature. Then the specimen was performed binder burn-out at 35$0^{\circ}C$ and heated for partial melting to 86$0^{\circ}C$. XRD analysis of most specimens were shown 2212 phase and observed a local plate shped microstructure with a well aligned c-axis direction from SEM images. Measured T$_{c}$(Critical temperature) was about 64 K.K.

  • High bum-up fuel technology has been developed through a national R&D program, which covers key technology areas such as claddings, $UO_2$ pellets, spacer grids, performance code, and fuel assembly tests. New cladding alloys were developed through alloy designs, tube fabrication, out-of-pile test and in-reactor test. The new Zr-Nb tubes are found to be much better in their corrosion resistance and creep strength than the Zircaloy-4 tube, owing to an optimized composition and heat treatment of the new Zr-Nb alloys. A new fabrication technology for large grain $UO_2$ pellets was developed using various uranium oxide seeds and a micro-doping of Al. The uranium oxide seeds, which were added to $UO_2$ powder, were prepared by oxidizing and heat-treating scrap $UO_2$ pellets. A $UO_2$ pellet containing tungsten channels was fabricated for a thermal conductivity enhancement. For the fuel performance analysis, new high burnup models were developed and implemented in a code. This code was verified by an international database and our own database. The developed spacer grid has two features of contoured contact spring and hybrid mixing vanes. Mechanical and hydraulic tests showed that the spacer grid is superior in its rodsupporting, wear resistance and CHF performance. Finally, fuel assembly test technology was also developed. Facilities for mechanical and thermal hydraulic tests were constructed and are now in operation. Several achievements are to be utilized soon by the Korea Nuclear Fuel and thereby contribute to the economy and safety of PWR fuel in Korea

Clinical Analysis of Video-assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery for Spontaneous Pneumothorax - Comparison of Apical Pleurectomy Versus Talc Powder Insufflation (원발성 자연 기흉의 흉강경 수술에서 폐첨부 흉막 박리술과 탈크 흉막 유착술의 비교)

  • When compare with blebectomy or bullaectomy simply and pleurodesis together in treatment of primary spontaneous pnevmthorax, the later has been realized as the method that can reduce the recurrent rate after surgical operation. Therefore, in this study, we compared the merits and demerits of the clinical result of chemical pleurodesis that use Talcum powder in pleurodesis and mechanical pleurodesis that use apical pleurectomy and analyzed the reappearance rate etc. Material and Method: The Pleurodesis through the apical pleurectomy and talc powder insufflation had been used as secondary procedure after blebectomy of spontaneous pneumothorax from January 1, 2000 to June 30, 2002. This study consisted of a retrospective review of 68 patients who were treated with apical pleurectomy, and 84 patients treated with talc powder insufflation. We compaired the apical pleurectomy and talc powder insufflation in terms of age, sex, cause of operation, number of used autosuture staple, tine duration of procedure after blebectomy, severity of pain and complication after operation, postoperative air leakage period, duration of chest tube insertion, hospitalization, and recurrence rate of pneumothorax. Result: Time required for secondary procedure was longer in apical pleurectomy than talc powder insufflation. Postoperative pain was more severe in talc powder insufflation than apical pleurectomy. Otherwise there was no significant difference between two methods. Conclusion: Although Talc powder insufflation is more convenient than apical pleurectomy, the difference is not large and, the severity of postoperative pain is worse in talc powder insufflation. Therefore apical pleurectomy can be recommended for the secondary surgical procedure after blebectomy of primary spontaneous pneumothorax can be recommended.

A study on the process for the preparation of Ag/Bi-2223 superconducting tapes by powder in tube methoe (분말충진법에 의한 Ag/Bi-2223고온초전도 선재의 제조공정에 관한 연구)

  • The effects of fabrication method and condition on critical current density of Ag sheathed Bi- 2223 superconducting tapes by powder-in-tube method were studied. The highest critical current density (Jc) in the whole process was measured in the repeative heat treatment of 250 hour and mechanical deformation of 2 times. These results are suggested that the high-Tc phase at the heat treatment of 250 hour was superior and the good grain alignment at the mechanical deformation of 2 times was analyzed by XRD pattern. The highest critical current density obtained by pressing method was $1.05\times 10^4A/\textrm{cm}^2$ and $0.78\times 10^4A/\textrm{cm}^2$ in case of rolling method. The multifilamentary wires with 7 and 49 filaments were fabricated to check the applicability of pressing and rolling method for preparing multifilaments wire. The critical current density of 7 filaments tapes prepared by pressing showed $0.45 \times 10^{4}A/\textrm{cm}^2$ and $0.20 \times 10^{4}A/\textrm{cm}^2$ for 49 filaments tapes prepared by rolling.

Studies on Antitumor Components of Flammulina velutipes of Korea (I) (팽나무 버섯의 항암(抗癌) 성분(成分)에 관한 연구(硏究)(제 1보)(第 1報))

  • To find antitumor components with low toxicity in the Basidiomycetes of Korea, the carpophores of Flammulina velutipes (Fr.) Singer were extracted with hot water for eight hours. The extract was purified by dialyzing through Visking tube and a protein-bound polysaccharide fraction was obtained as pale brownish amorphous powder after freeze-drying. The fraction was examined for antitumor activity against sarcoma 180 implanted subcutaneously in the left groin in ICR mice. The inhibition ratio of this fraction against the tumor was 62.3% at the dose of 10mg/kg/day for the period of ten days. The tumors in three of the ten treated mice were completely regressed. The chemical analysis of the antitumor component by anthrone and Lowry-Folin methods showed that it consisted of a polysaccharide (42.4%) and a protein (24.5%). The hydrolysis of the polysaccharide moiety with 3% HCl-MeOH and trimethysilylation of the hydrolyzate yielded five monosaccharides which were identified by G.L.C. Several amino acids were identified by an amino acid autoanalyzer in the acid hydrolyzate of the protein moiety.

An Evaluation of Flexural Behavior of Fume Pipe Repaired by Hybrid Concrete Repair Materials (하이브리드 콘크리트 보수재료로 보수된 흄관의 휨 거동 평가)

  • In this study, we developed a repair material incorporating PVA powder resin and nylon fiber into cemented carbide used in the existing field to improve adhesion performance and water tightness with existing concrete. Flexural behavior evaluation was performed. The main experimental variables were PVA powder resin, nylon fiber mixing rate and damage type, and performance tests were conducted to evaluate compressive strength and flexural behavior after repairing materials. It was found that all formulations fully satisfied the required performance of the repair material. The flexural strength test results of the repaired tube specimens showed that the performance of the repaired materials was maximized when the nylon fiber was added and the PVA powder was added in an appropriate amount. The flexural behavior of all the specimens showed the flexural behavior of the structural members with a low rebar ratio, suggesting that the amount of iron wire in the domestic fume pipe was somewhat insufficient. That is, it was confirmed that the amount of reinforcement of the steel wire was somewhat small, so that the concrete was cracked before the behavior of the concrete and the steel wire reached the extreme state, and the concrete was immediately destroyed beyond the tensile strength of the concrete.

The Effects of Hot Corrosion on the Creep Rupture Properties of Boiler Tube Material (보일러 管材料의 크리프破斷特性에 미치는 고온부식의 影響)

  • In order to investigate the effects of hot corrosion on the creep rupture properties and creep life of 304 stainless steel being used as tube materials of heavy oil fired boiler, the creep rupture tests were carried out at temperature 630.deg.C, 690.deg.C and 750.deg.C in static air for the specimens with or without coating of double layer corrosives according to the new hot corrosion test method simulating the situation commonly observed on superheater tubes of the actual boiler. The double layer corrosives are 85% V$_{2}$O$_{5}$ + 10% Na$_{2}$So$_{4}$ + 5% Fe$_{2}$O$_{3}$ as the inner layer corrosive being once melted at 900.deg. C and crushed to powder, and 10% V$_{2}$O$_{5}$ + 85% Na$_{2}$SO$_{4}$ +5% Fe$_{2}$O$_{3}$ as the outer layer corrosive. As results, in the specimen coated with the double layer corrosives, the rupture strength was extremely lowered and showed a large difference each other. The rupture ductility also lowered remarkably as a result of the brittle fracture mode due to hot corrosion. These results indicate that hot corrosion could essentially alter the creep fracture mechanism. From the metallographic observation, it was clarified that the rupture life of 304 stainless steel subjected to hot corrosion was chiefly determined by the behavior of the aggressive intergranular penetration of sulfides.des.

  • [ $MgB_2$ ]superconducting sheets have been fabricated using powder roll compaction method. Sheet-type $MgB_2$ bulk samples were successfully fabricated using the pre-reacted $MgB_2$ powders. In this work, $MgB_2$ powders were compacted by two rotating rolls and squeezed out as a form of $MgB_2$ sheets of ~1 mm thickness. The rolling speed of 0.3-0.7 rpm and the gap distance of 0.3-0.8 mm between the two rollers were carefully controlled to get a full compaction of the powders into bulk $MgB_2$ sheets. The densities of $MgB_2$ sheets were 1.98-2.05 g/$cm^3$, which is 75.44-77.99 % of the theoretical value of 2.63 g/$cm^3$. And the density comparison was made compared to those of typical $MgB_2$ bulks from uni-axial pressing and $MgB_2$ wires from Powder-In-Tube processing.

  • Thick film sealing glass paste is required for cell packaging of NaS based battery for energy storage system, to join the beta-alumina electrolyte tube and the alpha-alumina battery cell cap components. This paper presents the effect of the particle sizes of seal glass powder and the sealing temperatures on the microstructure of the glass sealants was investigated. It was found that the larger in the particle size of seal glass powder, the smaller the pore volume and the number of pores in a unit area. Also, the number of pores decreased with increasing the sealing temperatures while the pore size was increased. This result enables the control of porosity, pore distribution and number of pores in a microstructure of glass sealing component by proper selection of glass powders particle size and sealing temperature.
