A process development for direct synthesis of high pure ZnO powders from zinc-bearing waste was investigated. This waste contains a 55% of zinc and it was extracted by the sulfuric acid(leaching). After removal of iron ion by precipitation from the zinc solution, the purification through a solvent extraction by the use of D2EHPA as an extractant was carried out. Then, loaded zinc in organic solution was stripped and precipitated simultaneously using a precipitant such as oxalic acid. Then, loaded zinc in organic solution was stripped and precipitated simulataneously using a precipitant such as oxalic acid. The synthesized $ZnC_2O_4$ powders by the precipitation stripping method was calcined to obtain more than 99.9% of ZnO powders. The effect of sulfuric acid concentration, leaching time, pulp density on the extraction of zinc was studied and the optimum conditions for the solvent extraction were obtained through the investigation of purification of zinc solution. The size, morphology and size distribution of synthesized $ZnC_2O_4$ powders were studied in terms of oxalic acid concentration, temperature, surfactant added, precipitation time, etc.
For cuboid and ellipsoid crystallites of LiFePO4 powders, by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and microscopic (TEM) studies, it is possible to determine the anisotropic parameters of the crystallite size distribution functions. These parameters were used to describe the cathode rate capability within the model of averaging the diffusion coefficient D over the length of the crystallite columns along the [010] direction. A LiFePO4 powder was chosen for testing the developed model, consisting of big cuboid and small ellipsoid crystallites (close to them). When analyzing the parts of big and small rate capabilities, the fitting values D = 2.1 and 0.3 nm2/s were obtained for cuboids and ellipsoids, respectively. When analyzing the results of cyclic voltammetry using the Randles-Sevcik equation and the total area of projections of electrode crystallites on their (010) plane, slightly different values were obtained, D = 0.9 ± 0.15 and 0.5 ± 0.15 nm2/s, respectively. We believe that these inconsistencies can be considered quite acceptable, since both methods of determining D have obvious sources of error. However, the developed method has a clearly lower systematic error due to the ability to actually take into account the shape and statistics of crystallites, and it is also useful for improving the accuracy of the Randles-Sevcik equation. It has also been demonstrated that the shape engineering of crystallites, among other tasks, can increase the cathode capacity by 15% by increasing their size correlation coefficients.

We have fabricated alumina thick films by inkjet printing technology. Two different types of ink system were formulated in order to understand their evaporation behaviors and their evaporation effects on the powder distribution on, the surface during inkjet-printed alumina thick films. Single solvent system was formulated with N,N-dimethylformamide(DMF), which led to coffee ring effects which non-uniformly distributed alumina particles on the substrate during the ink evaporation. However, Co-solvent system which consists of both Water and DMF produced relatively uniform distribution of the particles on the substrate. We believe that these two different distributions of alumina particles are attributed to the ink fluid flow directions in the ink droplets ejected from the different ceramic ink system. We have modulated inkjet parameters such as dot-to-dot distance, line-to-line distance, jetting velocity and jetting drop size in order to find out the optimum condition for the printing of alumina thick films from two different ink systems. The surface roughness, microstructures and dielectric properties of these inkjet-printed alumina thick films were investigated.
This study is one of the fundamental researches for the development of future smart clothing and textile products using silver(Ag) nano powder. Our study was focused on the blocking or insulating effects of nano-processed textiles from electromagnetic waves. Also, for the surveying of the actual effect to human body, we measure the variation of electroencephalogram which is an indication of human physical symptoms. Among various textiles in this experiment, nano silver processed case has shown the best blocking performance from the electromagnetic waves, which decreases depending on the distance. As a reference model of working environment, we setup the visual stimuli object on the computer that is a source of electromagnetic wave. The power spectrum distribution and the incidence of electroencephalogram was measured. The analysed data has shown that, with nano-processed textiles, ${\beta}$ wave does not appear very often where ${\beta}$ wave appears only to illustrate the stable states of human's body. However, as for the materials without nano processing, the ratio of ${\gamma}$ waves in the total level of electroencephalogram becomes higher in spite of short exposure to visual stimuli in work environment, which shows that the worker becomes stressed. The ${\beta}$ wave electroencephalogram of all materials is drawn in calcarine fissure of occipital lobe to show the convergent distribution, and stronger with block-processed Nano Silver Silk(NSS). The study based on the potential risks of human diseases such as physical fatigue by electromagnetic waves, and has shown that the application of Nano Silver textile for human uses require a proper particle size of it which would not penetrate cellular tissues, and a proper binder and binding treatment for it. However, it is highly required for back-up researches to verify various aspects in applying nano silver to textile products.
In order to overcome the limitation of conventional nanoparticle dispersion methods such as sonicator or homogenizer, a filtration method using an ultrasonic atomization effect and cyclones was proposed in this study. A 0.5 wt% suspension was made with Al2O3 powder with an average diameter of 250 nm. The suspension was filtered by the proposed method after pre-dispersing using a sonicator and a homogenizer, respectively. As the result, in the case of the suspension after pre-dispersing with a sonicator, the particle size distribution of the filtered suspension started showing up a single normal distribution indicating the mode of the average diameter only after the 3rd cyclone process. On the other hand, in the case of the suspension with the homogenizer pre-dispersion, similar results appeared from the 2nd cyclone process. Filtration of various types of nanoparticles is expected to be possible by adjusting ultrasonic atomization frequency and manipulating the design of the cyclone.
A PGSS (Particles from Gas Saturated Solutions) process designed to generate nano-particles using supercritical fluids has been conducted for the fabrication of Poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) microparticles that encapsulate a protein drug. It is demonstrated that the polymer and the dry powder of a protein can be mixed under supercritical carbon dioxide conditions and that the protein component retains its biological activity. In this experiment, the mixture of polymer which is plasticized and dry powder protein was sprayed to form solid polymer that encapsulate the protein. It is found that supercritical fluid process give fine tuning of particle size and particle size distribution by simple manipulations of the process parameters. Porous particles were formed with irregular shape. Protein encapsulated in the polymer was found to have enzymatic activity without significant loss of its initial value.
In order to investigate the effects of particle size and specific surface area(BET area) of spinel powder, $LiMn_2O_4$ were synthesized using metal oxide precursor by co-precipitation method(CoP) and solid state reaction (SSR) .X-ray diffraction(XRD) patterns revealed that the both prepared powder has a well developed spinel structure with Fd3m space group. The $LiMn_2O_4$ prepared by co-precipitation showed spherical morphology with narrow size distribution. However, the $LiMn_2O_4$ prepared by solid state reaction showed relatively smaller particles with irregular shape. The measured BET areas of the powers are $0.8m^2g^{-1}$ (CoP) and $3.6m^2g^{-1}$(SSR). The electrochemical performance of the Prepared $LiMn_2O_4$ powders was evaluated using coin type cells(CR2032) at elevated temperature ($55^{\circ}C$). The $LiMn_2O_4$ prepared by co-precipitation showed the better cycling performance(82.3%capacity retention at $50^{th}$ cycle) than that of the $LiMn_2O_4$(68.3%) prepared by solid state reaction at elevated temperature.

This research tried to find out the optimum fabrication method of calcined clay granules comprising zeolite. Kaolin clay and natural zeolite powder were used as raw materials of calcined clay, and silica stone powder was used for controlling the porosity of the granules. The granulation was performed with two kinds of granulators: a pan granulator and a high-shear mixer granulator. Various granules were fabricated by the mixing ratios and the rotation speeds of the granulators, and were heated from 400 to $700^{\circ}C$ at $100^{\circ}C$ interval. The crushing strength, pore size distribution, and CEC of the granules were measured. The evaluation method for the resistance of granules to human treading was created and the tests were conducted at dry and wet conditions. The resistance and crushing strength improved in proportion to the rotation speed of the granulator and the heating temperature, but the CEC decreased. The pellet made by the pan granulator did not have the strength against treading upon heating to below $700^{\circ}C$, but the pellet made by the high-shear mixer granulator endured the treading test upon heating to over $500^{\circ}C$

The purpose of this study was to improve the stability and the processing property of vitamin C. Vitamin C was coated according to particle size(80-100 mesh, 100-140 mesh) and mixing ratio(1:1.6, 1:2.5, 1:3(w/w)) with coating solution(8% Zein-DP, 6% HPMC-FCC), and then the quality characteristics of fluidized bed micro coated vitamin C were investigated. The coating efficiency and the thickness of coating film were higher in $80{\sim}100$ mesh particle than in $100{\sim}140$ mesh particles, and coating efficiency was decreased as the coating material was increased. The distribution range of particle was more narrow in mixing ratio of 1:3(w/w) than in the other. DPPH radical scavenging activity was not affected by the particle size and the mixing ratio. There was no difference between the coating materials in terms of the quality characteristics. The optimum coating condition for fluidized bed micro-coating of vitamin C powder was selected as the particle size of $80{\sim}100$ mesh and the mixing ratio with coating solution of 1:3(w/w).
In the precedent study it was presented that the comparison of thermal resistivity using various backfill materials including river sand regarding water content, dry unit weight and particle size distribution. Based on the precedent study, this study focused on developing the optimized backfill material that would improve the power transfer capability and minimize the thermal runaway due to an increase of power transmission capacity of underground power cables. When raw materials, such as river sand, recycled sand, crush rock and stone powder, are used for a backfill material, they has not efficient thermal resistivity around underground power cables. Thus, laboratory tests are performed by mixing Fly-ash, slag and floc with them, and then it is found that the optimized backfill material are required proper water content and maximum density. Through various experimental test, when coarse material, crush rock, is mixed with recycled sand, stone powder, slag or floc for a dense material, the thermal resistivity of it has $50^{\circ}C$-cm/Watt at optimum moisture content, and the increase of thermal resistivity does not happen in dry condition. The result of experiments approach the optimization of the backfill materials for underground power cables.
