In this study MD simulations have been performed to observe the behavior of a grain boundary in an a-Fe plate under 2-dimensional loading. In MD simulation the acceleration of every molecule can be achieved from the potential energy and the force interacting between each molecule and the integration of the motion equation by using Verlet method gives the displacement of each molecule. Initially four a-Fe rectangular plates having different misorientation angles of grain boundary were modeled by using the Johnson potential and Morse potential We compared the potential energy of the grain boundary system with that of the perfect structure model. Also we could obtain the width of the grain boundary by investigating the local potential energy distribution. The tensile loading for each grain boundary models was applied and the behavior of grin boundary was studied. From this study it was clarified that in the case using Johnson potential the obvious fracture mechanism occurs along the grain boundary in the case of Morse potential the diffusion of the grain boundary appears instead of the grain boundary fracture.

We have analyzed influence of potential rise in negative bus, which caused by decrease of power feeding line insulation, upon protecting method of DC ground protection device which detecting potential rise between negative bus and ground in order to detect ground fault in the rubber wheel system. For this purpose, we proposed negative potential equation between negative bus and ground and calculated negative potential according to system condition changes by estimating power feeding line insulation changes in steel wheel system and rubber wheel system, and equalizing DC power feeding system when ground fault occurred. Also, in order to estimate negative potential of real system, we modeled the rubber wheel system, and simulated normal status, grounding fault occurrence and power feeding line insulation changes. In normal status, negative potential did not rise significantly regardless of vehicle operation. When ground fault occurred, negative potential rose up over 300V regardless of fault resistance. However, we also observed that negative potential rose when power feeding line insulation dropped down under $1M{\Omega}$. In conclusion, our result shows that in case of rubber wheel system unlike steel wheel system, relay will be prevented maloperation and insulation status observation can be ensured when ground over voltage relay will be set 200V ~ 300V.
Purpose: The purpose of the present study was to identify factors affecting anxiety about disaster damage potential in Gyonggi-do and evacuation behavior that influences evacuation behavior. Method: Multiple regression analysis was performed to test the hypothesis and to analyze the influence of anxiety about disaster damage potential and perceived stress, and analyzed similarity in correspondence between age and anxiety about disaster damage potential. Results: The anxiety about disaster damage potential of a group vulnerable to safety and anxiety about disaster damage potential of disaster system collapse were perceived in close proximity. Disaster system collapse, evacuation life, and natural disasters were found to be factors affecting perceived stress. Stress and natural disasters were found to be influencing factors on evacuation behavior. Conclusion: The necessity of managing stress was confirmed since anxiety about natural disaster damage potential and stress affect evacuation behavior. The recent experiences of heavy rain disasters indicate that the anxiety about disaster damage potential is expected to increase. The findings also indicate the importance of preventive planning and psychological management to manage the anxiety about disaster damage potential.

It was verified that the effect of the distance between current input point and output point on direct current potential drop(DCPD) in the material with two-dimensional surface notch. If the distance between potential drop measuring points was fixed at a certain distance, the potential drop was decreased with increasing the distance between current input and output points. Hence it is the effect way to increase sensitivity in DCPD that the current input and output points should be located near the potential measuring points. DCPD was a useful method for surface crack sizing because the potential drop was proportional to the length of notch. When the current input and output points are located near the potential measuring points, even small length crack can be measured by DCPD technique.
In this study, we investigated the effect of space plasmas on the floating potential variation of a low-altitude, polar-orbiting satellite using the Langmuir Probe (LP) measurement onboard the STSAT-1 spacecraft. We focused on small potential drops, for which the estimation of plasma density and temperature from LP is available. The floating potential varied according to the variations of plasma density and temperature, similar to the previously reported observations. Most of the potential drops occurred around the nightside auroral region. However, unlike the previous studies where large potential drops were observed with the precipitation of auroral electrons, the potential drops occurred before or after the precipitation of auroral electrons. Statistical analysis shows that the potential drops have good correlation with the temperature increase of cold electrons, which suggests the small potential drops be mainly controlled by the cold ionospheric plasmas.
This study evaluated the influence of the zeta potential of silica-alumina on the behavior in terms of purity, yield, and precipitate shape and size of fractional precipitation in the fractional precipitation process for the purification of (+)-dihydromyricetin. The optimal silica-alumina amount (surface area per working volume of reacting solution) for zeta potential control was $100mm^{-1}$. As the zeta potential value of silica-alumina increased, (+)-dihydromyricetin yield and precipitate size were increased. The use of silica with the highest value of the zeta potential (+4.99 mV) as a zeta potential-controlling material increased the (+)-dihydromyricetin yield by 2-fold compared with that of the use of alumina with the lowest value of the zeta potential (-19.00 mV). In addition, the (+)-dihydromyricetin yield and precipitate size was inversely correlated with the absolute value of the zeta potential. On the other hand, the purity of (+)-dihydromyricetin had almost no effect on changes in the zeta potential of silica-alumina.

As the interest on biodiversity has increased around the world, researches about evaluating potential for habitat are also increasing to find and comprehend the valuable habitats. This study focus on comprehending the significance of stream in evaluating habitat's potential. The purpose of this study is to evaluate habitat potential with applying stream as a main variable, and to comprehend the relationship between the variables and habitat potential. Basin is a unit that has hydrological properties and dynamic interaction with ecosystem. Especially, biodiversity and suitability of habitat in basin area has direct correlation with stream. Existing studies also are proposing for habitat potential evaluation in basin unit, they applied forest, slope and road as main variables. Despite stream is considered the most important factor in basin area, researchers haven't applied stream as a main variable. Therefore, in this study, three variables that can demonstrate hydrological properties are selected, which are, riparian distance, stream order and land use disturbance, and evaluate habitat potential. Habitat potential is analyzed by using Maxent (Maximum entropy model), and vertebrate's presence data is used as dependent variables and stream order map and land cover map is used as base data of independent variables. As a result of analysis, habitat potential is higher at riparian and upstream area, and lower at frequently disturbed area. Result indicates that adjacent to stream, upstream, and less disturbed area is the habitat that vertebrate prefer. In particular, mammals prefer adjacent area of stream and forest and reptiles prefer upriver area. Birds prefer adjacent area of stream and midstream and amphibians prefer adjacent area of stream and upriver. The result of this research could help to establish habitat conservation strategy around basin unit in the future.
Protein -surfactant interactions have been investigate by measuring ζ-potential of $\beta$-lactoglobulin-coated emulsion droplets and $\beta$-lactoglobulin in solution in the rpesenceof surfactant, with particular emphasis on the effect of protein heat treatment(7$0^{\circ}C$, 30min). When ionic surfactant (SDS or DATEM) is added to the protein solution, the ζ-potential of the mixture is found to increase with increasing surfactant concentration, indicating surfactant binding to the protein molecules. For heat-denatured protein,it has been observed that the ζ-potential tends to be lower than that of the native protein. The effect of surfactant on emulsions is rather complicated .With SDS, small amounts of surfactant addition induce a sharp increase in zeta potential arising from the specific interaction of surfactant with protein. With further surfacant addition, there is a gradual reductio in the ζ-potential, presumably caused by the displacement of adsorped protein (and protein-surfactant complex) from the emulsion droplet surfac by the excess of SDS molecules. At even higher surfactant concentrations, the measured zeta potential appears to increase slightly, possibly due to the formation of a surfactant measured zeta potential appears to increase slightly, possibly due to the formation of surfactant micellar structure at the oil droplet surface. This behaviour contrastswith the results of the corresponding systems containing the anionic emulsifier DATEM, in which the ζ-potential of the system is found to increase continuously with R, particularly at very low surfactant concentration. Overall, such behaviour is consisten with a combination of complexation and competitive displacement between surfactant and protein occurring at the oil-water interface. In addition, it has also been found that above the CMC, there is a time-dependent increase in the negative ζ-potential of emulsion droplets in solutions of SDS, possibly due to the solublization of oil droplets into surfactant micelles in the aqueous bulk phase.
Ginseng has an anti-cancer effect in several cancer models. As a mechanism study of ginsenoside-induced growth inhibition in cancer cells, we measured change of membrane potential in prostate cancer and glioma cells by ginsenosides, active constituents of ginseng. Membrane potential was estimated by measuring fluorescence change of DiBAC-Ioaded cells. Among 11 ginsenosides tested, ginsenosides $Rb_2$, $Rg_3$, and $Rh_2$ increased significantly and robustly the membrane potential in a concentration-dependent manner in prostate cancer and glioma cells. Ginsenosides Rc, Ro, and $Rb_1$ slightly increased membrane potential. The ginsenoside-induced membrane potential increase was not affected by treatment with pertussis toxin or U73122. The ginsenoside-induced membrane potential increase was not diminished in $Na^+$-free or $HCO_3^-$-free media. Furthermore, the ginsenoside-induced increase of membrane potential was not changed by EIPA (5-(N-ethyl-N-isopropyl)-amiloride), SITS (4-acetoamido-4'-isothiocyanostilbene-2,2'-disulfonic acid), and omeprazole. In summary, ginsenosides $Rb_2$, $Rg_3$, and $Rh_2$ increased membrane potential in prostate cancer and glioma cells in a GPCR-independent and $Na^+$ independent manner.

Self-potential (SP) surveys measure naturally occurring differences in electrical potential in the absence of artificial sources and have been applied to various fields since the first application in mineral explorations. Among various causes of SP occurrences, streaming potential is generated by the flow of groundwater, and makes SP surveys suitable for the exploration of groundwater table fluctuation, fractures, sinkholes and landslide occurrences. Recently, there has been many studies that applied SP surveys to monitor water leakage through dikes and embankments. In this review paper, we first review the characteristics and theoretical backgrounds of streaming potential in saturated or unsaturated porous media to introduce it in the embankment among various application field. After the review of the background theory, we review the past cases of field SP surveys on dikes and embankments and also the characteristics of field streaming potential data in the surveys. Further, by analyzing past studies of qualitative as well as quantitative interpretation of SP survey data, we show the possibility of quantitative interpretation of streaming potential data obtained on dikes and embankments. Consequently, it is hope that this review paper helps researches on SP surveys on dikes and embankments, and provides basis for interpretation methods of the SP data to identify leaked area and further leakage rate (or permeability).
