Effects of Systematic Variation Application of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn on the Dry Matter Yields of Orcharograss and White Clover (Fe, Mn, Cu 및 Zn의 Systematic Variation 시비가 Orchardgrass 및 White Clover의 건물수량에 미치는 영향)

  • This pot experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of systematic variation application of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn on forage performance of orchardgrass and white clover. The treatments of systematic variation were 0/100, 25/75, 50/50, 75/25, and 100/0% in the Fe/Cu(trial-1), Mn/Zn(trial-2), and Fe+Cu/Mn+Zn(trial-3), respectively. The treatments of Fe/Mn/Cu/Zn(trial-4) were composed of 70% in main element and 10% in other 3 elements, respectively. 1. By the systematic variations of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn, the yields were more significantly influenced in white clover than in orchardgrass. In addition, the yields of white clover were closely correlated to the trends of root/nodule growth and flowering. In the Fe/Cu trial, the relatively high yields were obtained at the 100/0% in orchardgrass and at the 75/25% in white clover. The yields of white clover were more negatively influenced by the 100/0(Cu control) than by the 0/100(Fe control). The yields of orchardgrass, however, tended to be opposite to the above trends. 2. In the Mn/Zn trial, both forages showed generally high yields at the high ratios of Mn/Zn. Compared with orchardgrass, the yields of white clover were greatly decreased by the Mn-deficiency(low ratio of Mn/Zn). The effects of Zn on forage yields, however, were not recognized. 3. In the Fe+Cu/Mn+Zn trial, the yields of orchardgrass tended to be slightly different among the treatments. The yields of white clover, however, were relatively' high at the 75/25, and showed a severe decrease at the 100/0 in the 2nd half cuts. In the Fe/Mn/Cu/Zn trial, the yields of white clover tended to be relatively high at the Cu and Zn treatments. It was likely to be caused by the balanced Fe/Mn ratio.

In general, the unbalanced applications of Fe and Mn resulted in the Mn and Fe deficiencies(chlorosis) on white clover, respectively, because of the antagonism between Fe and Mn. In white clover, the traits of growth, root/nodule, and flowering, which were influenced by the systematic variation of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn, were closely correlated to each other. In the Fe/Cu trial, the 0/100 and 25/75 induced a Fe-deficiency on white clover, and the 0/100 also showed poor root growth and flowering. In addition, the 50/50 and 75/25 showed an early flowering of white clover. 2. In the Mn/Zn trial, the 0/100 induced a severe Mn-deficiency(chlorosis) on white clover. The 25/75 and 50/50, however, diminished the chlorosis symptom. The 75/25 and 100/0 showed generally good root growth and flowering of white clover. 3. In the Fe + Cu/Mn + Zn trial, the 0/100 induced a Fe-deficiency, and the 100/0 induced a Mn-deficiency on white clover, which were correlated to the poor root growth and flowering. The 75/25 showed good root growth and flowering of white clover. 1be flowering of white clover tended to be more influenced by the Fe + Cu than by the Mn + Cu ratios. 4. In the Fe/Mn/Cu/Zn trial, the Fe and Mn deficiencies on white clover, which were influenced by the Mn and Fe treatments, also occurred. The Cu and Zn-deficiency symptoms, however, were not recognized. General differences have been showed in the numbers of flowers as following orders; Zn > Cu > Mn > Fe - 70% treatments.

Effects of Combined Application of Micronutrients on these Total and Relative Contents, Uptake Amounts, and Mutual Ratios in Orchardgrass and White Clover (Orchardgrass 및 White clover의 단파 및 혼파 재배에서 미량요소(Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, Mo, B)의 조합시비가 목초의 총 함량, 상대 함량, 탈취량 및 상호비율 변화에 미치는 영향)

  • This pot experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of combined micronutrient application(T1; control, T2; Fe, T3; Fe+Mn, T4; Fe+Mn+Cu, T5 ; Fe+Mn+Cu+Zn, T6 ; Fe+Mn+Cu+Zn+Mo, T7; Fe+Mn+Cu+Zn + Mo + B) on forage performance of pure and mixed cultures of orchardgrass and white clover. The fifth part was concerned with the changes in the total and relative contents, uptake amounts, and mutual ratios. of micronutrients in forages. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. The relative contents(total contents of 6 micronutrients = 100%) of Fe and Mn were considerably influenced by the antagonism between Fe and Mn, and also were influenced by the differences in Mn-absorption between orchardgrass and white clover. Compared with pure culture, orchardgrass showed high relative contents of Mn, and low relative contents of Fe and B in mixed culture. White clover, however, tended to be exactly opposed to the above trends. In relative contents, the T6 6/ resulted generally in decrease of Fe. However the T7 resulted in increase of Mn and B. In addition, the T7 resulted in decrease of Cu and Zn in orchardgrass, and Mo in white clover. 2. In general, there were differences in the tendency between the yield changes and the uptake amounts of micronutrients. General differences have been showed in the uptake amounts and mutual ratios of micronutrients based on the forage species, pure/mixed culture, additional fertilization, and antagonism. The uptake amounts of total micronutrients were generally increased by the treatments with increased combination. In uptake amounts, the T7 resulted in the increase of Mn and B, and decrease of Mo. 3. The mutual ratios of Fe/Mn, Fe/Cu, and Mn/Cu were considerably influenced by the antagonism between Fe and Mn. At the T7 , very low ratio of Fe/Mo affected by the T6 tended to be somewhat improved because of the decrease of Mo content. The poor growth of forages at the T6 was improved by the T7 . This fact was likely to be caused by the adequate B/Mo ratio.

Development of Efficient Screening Methods for Resistance of Tomato to Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici (토마토 시들음병에 대한 효율적인 저항성 검정법 확립)

  • This study was conducted to establish an efficient screening method for resistant tomato to Fusarium wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici (FOL). The resistance degrees of the six commercial cultivars of tomato to the pathogen were evaluated by dipping roots of the seedlings in spore suspension of five FOL isolates. On the basis of the results, two cultivars (Dotaerangmaster, resistant cultivar to FOL race 1; Supersunload, resistant cultivar to FOL race 2) and two isolates (KACC40043, FOL race 2; TF104, FOL race 3) were selected for system establishment. The disease development of the FOL isolates on the cultivars according to several conditions including root wounding, incubation temperature, inoculum concentration and dipping period of roots in spore suspension was investigated. The resistance of each cultivar to the disease was a race-specific response and hardly affected by the tested conditions except for incubation temperature of 20C. The optimum temperature for disease development caused by FOL was 25 to 30C. On the basis of the results, we suggest that an efficient screening method for resistant tomato cultivars to Fusarium wilt is to dip the non-cut roots of tomato seedlings at two-leaf stage in spore suspension of 1×107conidiamL1 for 0.5 hours and transplant the seedling to plastic pot with horticulture nursery media, and then to cultivate the plants in a growth room at 25C for 3 weeks with 12 hours light a day.

  • Clinical observation was made on 161 cases of CVA that were confirmed through brain CT, MRI scan and clinical observation. They were hospitalized in the oriental medical hospital of Kyung-Won University from January to December in 1994. 1. The CVA cases were classified into the following kinds: cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage(SAH), transient ischemic attack, hypertensive encephalopathy, and the greatest in number among them were the cases of cerebral infarction. 2. The frequency of strokes was much the same between male and female cases and most cases were over 50 of age. 3. In the case of cerebral infarction the place of the most frequent occurrences was in the MCA territory, and as for cerebral hemorrhage, in the basal ganglia area. 4. The most ordinary preceding disease was hypertension. The next was diabetes mellitus. 5. Generally it is thought that CVA occurs frequently in winter. But on the contrary this study of observation confirmed that it occurs mostly in summer. 6. The predisposing factors of cerebral infarction were usually initiated during the time of resting and sleeping and those of cerebral hemorrhage chiefly during the time of exercising. 7. As concerns the course of hospitalization, most patients passed through western medical hospitals or oriental medical hospitals. 8. For the patients the condition of whose consciousness was bad at the time of admission, the prognosis in most cases was bad. 9. The common symptoms were motor disability and verbal disturbance. 10. With regard to cerebral infarction, the average time to start physical theraphy was 11.4 days and with cerebral hemorrhage 22.7 days after stroke. 11. The duration of hospitalization was in most cases more than one month. 12. The main complication was urinary tract infection. The next was pneumonia. 13. At the time of admission to hospital, the blood pressure in most cases was high, but it well controlled at the time of discharge. 14. Most cases were given simultaneous treatment in both ways of western and oriental medicine.

Salinity Effects on Growth and Yield Components of Rice (관개용수내 염분농도가 벼 생육 및 수량에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of salinity in irrigation water on the growth, yield components, yield and grain quality of rice plant by the pot experiments. Irrigation waters were supplied with control and amended with NaCl at 1,000, 2,000, 3,000, 5,000, and 7,000 μscm1 electrical conductivity. A randomized block design was used with four replicates for each treatment and control. As increasing salt concentration, plant height, tiller number, SPAD value, dry weight, content of N, P, and K, ripened grain ratio (%), 1,000 grain weight, and protein content (%) tended to decrease, especially, significant at 3,000 μscm1 of salt level. Grain yield decreased significantly at all treatments. The percentage of head rice slightly tended to increase as the salt concentration due to the decrease of green kernel. The percentage of green kernel was significantly lower at 3,000 μscm1 of salt level than the control.

  • These experiments were carried out to define the effects of 2.4-D, NAA and Benzyladenine on the differentiation and growth of the organs and the induction of callus from the potato meristem. The results were summarized as follows ; 1. The differentiation and growth of the shoots from the potato meristem was promoted in increased concentration of Benzyladenine but the callus was not induced on the M.S. medium containing Benzyladenine. 2. On the M.S. medium containing NAA 0.5 mg/l or higher concentration of NAA, the shoots were not initiated but the callus were induced from potato meristem. The growth of callus was promoted in increased concentration of NAA. 3. The roots were initiated from 50% of potato meristems planted on the M.S. medium containing more than 0.1 mg/l of NAA but the roots were pot initiated on the medium containing 2.4-D. 4. The shoot growth was significantly increased by increasing of 2.4-D concentration up to 0.1 mg/l, but the shoots were not initiated on the medium containing 2.4-D more than 1.0 mg/l. 5. For the induction and growth of the callus from potato meristem, NAA was more effective than 2.4-D and the most effective medium was M.S. medium supplemented with 2.0 mg/l of NAA. 6. The M.S. mediums supplemented with BA 2.0 mg/l and NAA 0.1 mg/l or BA 1.0 mg/l and 2.4-D 0.1 mg/l showed good results for entire plant regeneration from potato meristem.

Selection and Mechanisms of Indigenous Antagonistic Microorganisms against Sheath Rot and Dry Rot Disease of Garlic (마늘 잎집썩음병과 마른썩음병을 길항하는 토착길항미생물의 선발 및 기작)

  • Sheath rot and dry rot disease caused by Pseudomonas marginalis and Fusarium oxysporum were serious problems in garlic farmland. In this study, total of 160 indigenous antagonistic bacteria were isolated from 16 farmlands in Yeongcheon, Korea. Among these, 15 strains were able to inhibited P. marginalis and F. oxysporum. The 16s rDNA genes of the selected 15 strains were amplified and sequenced. The strains has strong antagonistic ability against garlic pathogens was achieved Bacillus subtilis YC82, B. vallismortis YC84, B. amyloliquefaciens YC240. The selected 3 strains tested for investigation of antifungal mechanisms further analyses; 3 strains of these validated for production of siderophore, β-glucanase and chitinase using CAS (chrome azurol S) blue agar, CMC-congo red agar and DNS method. The 3 strains were able to utilized insoluble phosphate as dertermined by vanado-molybdate method. The 3 strains verified for production of auxin and gibberellic acid using Salkowski test and holdbrook test. Also, 3 strains showed stimulation germination, stem growth promoting activity on the in vivo test. The 3 strains were able to effectively suppress P. marginalis and F. oxysporum causing sheath rot and dry rot diseases on the in vivo pot test.

Characteristics of Photosynthesis and Respiration in Fraxinus rhynchophylla Hance and Fraxinus mandshurica Rupr. Leaves (물푸레나무와 들메나무엽(葉)의 광합성(光合成)과 호흡(呼吸)의 특성(特性))

  • The present study was to examine the effects of light, temperature, and water stress on the photosynthesis and respiration rates and its seasonal changes in 3-Year-old Fraxinus rhynchophylla and Fraxinus mandshurica seedlings raised in pot in nursery. The results obtained are as follows: 1. The estimated light compensation points at which net photosynthesis approached zero were 35 and 28μEm2s1 for F. rhyrachophylla and F. mandsdzurica leaves, respectively, The light saturation points occurred at 700μEm2s1 in these species. 2. The maximum rates of net photosynthesis of leaves occurred at about 25C in F. rhynchophylla and at 20C in F. mandshurica. 3. The decrease in net photosynthetic rates of leaves began at -13 bars in F. rhynchophylla and -10 bars in F. mandshurica, and then its rates approached approximately zero at -23 bars in F. mandshurica and -29 bars in F. rhynchophylla. 4. The dark respiration rates of leaves were similar from 10C to 40C between these species, Also these increased from -10 bars to -28 bars, and then decreased remarkably in these species. 5. The net photosynthetic rates of leaves of F. mandshurica were higher than those of F. rhynchoplaylla until June, and after that lower than F. rhynchophylla. The dark respiration rates of leaves of F. rhynchophylla were higher than those of F. mandshurica from June to August, and After that similar between these species. 6. The respiration rates of stem and root were highest in April during the growing season. These values of F. rhynchophylla were slightly higher than those of F. mandshurica throughout the growing season.

Effects of Simulated Acid Rain on the Chlorophyll Contents in the Needles of Pinus koraiensis and Ligustrum obtusifolium Seedlings (인공산성우(人工酸性雨)가 잣나무 및 쥐똥나무 유묘(幼苗)의 엽내(葉內) 엽록소(葉綠素) 함량(含量)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • With the purpose of pursuing the increase and decrease of chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b caused by application of the simulated acid rain treatment on Pinus koraiensis seedlings and Ligustrum obtusifolium cuttings, the experimental design of randomized block arrangement with three replications was implemented in the experimental field of Yesan National Agricultural Junior College, during the growing season of 1985. Pinus koraiensis seeds stratified in cool and moist condition were sown on pots, and in case of Ligustrum obtusifolium, C1/1 cuttings were potted for experimental use in the early spring. The regime of artificial acid rain, based upon precipitation frequency and density, was simulated from the learning of climatological data averaged from 30 years records. The spray of acid water containing pH values of 4.0 and 2.0 was initiated from the 1st of May and ended on the 31st of August. As control, ground water was also treated at the same time. To analyse the chlorophyll content, those leaves looking representative and unaffected by other harmful agents were sampled on the 18th of September, and UV-visible spectrophotometer was used. With decrease in pH values of acid rain, the content of chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b decreased in both species. The decrease in chlorophyll a could be confirmed through statistical significance, but not in chlorophyll b. And when we discussed the chlorophyll decrease index which was explained in detail in the paper, an attention might be given to similarly decreasing values in both chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b, according as pH levels of acid rain decreased. The ratios of chlorophyll a to chlorophyll b in both species were not affected by different pH leaves of acid rain.
