  • PURPOSES : This paper evaluates, using LS/DYNA-3D software, the vehicle impact performance of flexible barriers made of steel W-Beam supported by four different types of post configurations. These types include circular post, H-shape post, C-shape post, and square post. METHODS : The post-soil interaction has been investigated according to different impact angles. For this purpose, energy absorption, maximum displacements of post and rail, and occupant risk index of THIV have been compared each other. The three dimensional soil material model, instead of the conventional spring model based on Winkler and p-y curve, has been used to increase the correctness of computational model. RESULTS : It is noted the crash energy absorption has been increased with respect to the increase of impact angle. CONCLUSIONS : In particular, a post with open section(H-shape, C-shape) shows the greater crash energy absorption capability as compared with a post with closed section under the same level of impact conditions.

Studies on post-tensioned and shaped space-truss domes

  • This paper concerns studies on the shape formation of post-tensioned and shaped steel domes. The post-tensioned and shaped steel domes, assembled initially at ground level in an essentially flat condition, are shaped to a curved space form and erected into the final position by means of a post-tensioning technique. Based on previous studies on this shape formation principle, three post-tensioned and shaped steel domes have been constructed. The results of the shape formation tests and finite element analyses are reported in this paper. It is found that the first two test domes did not furnish a part-spherical shape as predicted by finite element analyses, because the movements of some mechanisms were not controlled sufficiently. With a revised post-tensioning method, the third dome obtained the theoretical prediction. The test results of the three post-tensioned and shaped domes have shown that a necessary condition to form a desired space shape from a planar layout with low joint stiffnesses is that the movements of all the existing mechanisms must be effectively controlled as indicated by the finite element analysis. The extent of the maximum elastic deformation of a post-tensioned and shaped steel structure is determined by the strength of the top chords and their joints. However, due to the semi-rigid characteristic of the top chord joints, the finite element analyses cannot give a close prediction for the maximum elastic deformations of the post-tensioned and shaped steel domes. The results of the current studies can be helpful for the design and construction of this type of structure.

  • This paper suggests that post-tensioned and dome-shaped space truss formed by post-tersionong is easy to fabricate in construction process. In particular, a laboratory model is used to show how a flat space truss system can be transformed into a dome-shaped space truss by means of post-tensioning. There are some diserpancy in vertical displacement of the dxperiment and theoretical analysis for space truss. Nonlinear analysis is used to predict the final shape shape of the space truss, the experiments tndicates that this construction method can offer economy over traditional methods. In addition, the analysis indicates that when all the sxisting mechanisms are controlled, the nonlinear finite element method is more reliable way to predict the shape of the dome-shaped space truss than the linear analysis.

  • This paper presents a novel method to reduce the size of microstrip patch antennas using shorting post and spiral shape. The spiral conductor shape of the proposed shorted patch antennas increases the length of the current patch for a given area. Two spiral shaped patch antennas with shorting post operating at 700 MHz bands are investigated experimentally.

  • Recently most of researches for deep drawing process using sheet metal have been performed on the formability of axisymmetric shape but there have not been any concrete reports on the formability of non-axisymmetric shape In addition the conventional shape radius of the punch and die has been determined by the trying-and-error using industrial experimence and post processing test and only approximate shape radius of the punch and die has been determined by the trying-and-error using industrial experience and post processing test and only approximate shape radius of the punch and die has been present So in this study the optimal shape radius of the punch and die in deep drawing process with biaxisymmetric blank shape would be proposed. Through the deep drawing experiment it is found that in order to obtain the optimal products especially shape radius of the punch and die in all processes is very important.

Influence of Removed Web Members in Shaping Formation for Hypar Space Truss

  • This paper discusses the behavior of post-tensioned and shaped hypar space truss, with consideration of the influence of removing some web members. Hypar space truss is post-tensioned at the bottom chords of one diagonal on the ground; the essential behavior characteristic of shape formation is discussed by using a small-scale test model. Results of experiments and nonlinear finite-element analysis indicate that a planar, rectangular- arranged structure can be deformed to a predicted hyper shape, by the proposed shape formation method. Also the feasibility of the proposed method for furnishing of a hypar shaped face truss has been presented, under the condition of both non-removed and partially removed web members. It follows that a nonlinear finite element analysis method can be used in predicting the behavior of the space shape and the post-tensioning force in sharing of hypar space truss. Further, in comparison to the other cases, the results of test and analysis show that the active diagonal shaping in the non-removed web members and passive diagonal shaping of partially removed web members are in relatively good agreement.

고온 분무열분해 공정에 의한 녹색 발광의 BAM:Mn 형광체 합성 (Preparation of Green-Light Emitting BAM:Mn Phosphor Particles by High Temperature Spray Pyrolysis)

  • Green-light emitting $BaMgAl_{10}O_{19}:Mn^{2+}$ (BAM:Mn) phosphor particles were prepared by spray Pyrolysis. The effect of reactor temperature and flow rate of carrier gas in the spray Pyrolysis on the morphology, crystallinity and photoluminescence characteristics under vacuum ultraviolet were investigated. The morphology of the as-Prepared Particles obtained by spray Pyrolysis had spherical shape and non-aggregation characteristics regardless of the reactor temperature. The spherical shape of the as-prepared Particles obtained by spray pyrolysis at low temperature disappeared after Post-treatment. On the other hand the as-Prepared Particles obtained by spray Pyrolysis at $1600^{\circ}C$ maintained spherical shape and non-aggregation characteristics after post-treatment at $1400^{\circ}C$ for 3 h under reducing atmosphere. The BAM:Mn Phosphor Particles Prepared by spray Pyrolysis at different reactor temperatures had pure crystal structure and high photoluminescence intensities under vacuum ultraviolet after post-treatment. BAM:Mn phosphor particles prepared by spray Pyrolysis at low How rate of carrier gas had complete spherical shape and filed morphology and high photoluminescence intensity after post-treatment under reducing atmosphere.

임의 선박 단면형상의 입수충격력에 관한 수치적 연구 (Numerical Investigation of the Impact Pressure Acting on Arbitrary Ship Sections Falling into the Water Surface)

  • The interaction between the hull of ship and free surface of water generates important loads during slamming motion. In the present study, the slamming load applied on the sectional surface of two-dimensional arbitrary bodies has been investigated under several falling velocities. This simulation has been done with the commercial CFD software ANSYS FLUENT®. Through the conventional MARINTEK experiments for the benchmark of the simulation, we verified the impact pressure values between the experiments and simulation results. Two arbitrary ship bow section models, Panamax-like(with small convex bulb and flare) and Post panamax-like(with large convex bulb and flare) are also investigated. Simulation results show that a maximum impact pressure on the Post panama-like shape is higher than the Panamax-like shape. According to both a lump of water generated by arbitrary shape and various dead-rise angles of the shape, the pressure picks were enhanced in the simulation.

Study on small resistance regions in post-liquefaction shear deformation based on soil's compressive properties

  • Understanding the post-liquefaction shear behavior is crucial for predicting and assessing the damage, such as lateral flow, caused by liquefaction. Most studies have focused on the behavior until liquefaction occurs. In this study, we performed undrained multi-stage tests on clean sand, sand-silt mixtures, and silty soils to investigate post-liquefaction shear strain based on soil compressibility. The results confirmed that it is necessary to consider the soil compressibility and the shape of soil particles to understand the post-liquefaction shear strain characteristics. Based on this, an index reflecting soil compressibility and particle shape was derived, and the results showed a high correlation with post-liquefaction small resistance characteristic regardless of soil type and fine particle content.

대기중에서 구형 유전체 펠렛의 전계 분포 특성 평가 (The simulation on a electric field distribution of dielectric pellets with a shape of ball at atmosphere)

  • This paper explained electric field distribution's characteristics of dielectric pellets with a shape of ball to voltage. When discharge gap of electrode and input voltage are each 20[mm], 10000[V], the electric field simulation results of dielectric pellets with a shape of ball with relative dielectric constant of several kind measured stronger electric field near electric pellets with a shape of ball of ${\phi}5$[mm] than $1{\phi}$[mm] and $3.33{\phi}$[mm] at atmosphere. And the maximum electric field of dielectric pellets with a shape of ball over ${\phi}5$[mm] increased about 5[%] to maximum electric field of electric pellets with a shape of ball ${\phi}5$[mm]. And the result of simulation, when relative dielectric constant of dielectric pellets with a shape of ball is 100, it measured about 90[%] of maximum electric field of dielectric pellets with a shape of ball with relative dielectric constant over 1000.
