Alumina membrane was prepared by sol-gel coating method using boehmite powder(${\Upsilon}-AlOOH$). The supported and the unsupported alumina membrane were fabricated to investigate the phase transformation and change of microstructure. It is important to control the homogeneous pore size and distribution in application of filtering process. The ${\theta}-to\;{\alpha}-AL_2O_3$ phase transformation (XRD) and the change of microstructure was investigated using scanning electron microscopy(SEM). XRD patterns showed that the supported membrane had $100^{\circ}C$ higher ${\theta}-to\;{\alpha}-AL_2O_3$ transformation temperature compared to the unsupported membrane. The similar effect was also observed for microstructural change of the membrane.
$HA(hydroxyapatite)/{\beta}-TCP$ (tricalcium phosphate) biomaterial (BCP; biphasic calcium phosphate) is widely used as bone cement or scaffolds material due to its superior biocompatibility. Furthermore, $NH_4HCO_3$ as a space holder (SH) has been used to evaluate feasibility assessment of porous structured BCP as bone scaffolds. In this study, using a spark plasma sintering (SPS) process at 393K and 1373K under 20MPa load, porous $HA/{\beta}-TCP$ biomaterials were successfully fabricated using $HA/{\beta}-TCP$ powders with 10~30 wt% SH, TiH2 as a foaming agent, and MgO powder as a binder. The effect of SH content on the pore size and distribution of the BCP biomaterial was observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and a microfocus X-ray computer tomography system (SMX-225CT). The microstructure observations revealed that the volume fraction of the pores increased with increasing SH content and that rough pores were successfully fabricated by adding SH. Accordingly, the cell viabilities of BCP biomaterials were improved with increasing SH content. And, good biological properties were shown after assessment using Hanks balanced salt solution (HBSS).

The adsorption ability of polar and toxic substance was greatly enhanced by treating activated carbon with acid solution and impregnating iron, copper, or silver by using in 0.1 M $FeSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O,\;CuSO_4{\cdot}5H_2O,\;AgNO_3$ 300 mL per activated carbon 50 g. Physical and chemical properties of the metal impregnated activated carbons were measured using specific surface area, pore volume and size distribution, scanning eletron microscope(SEM), adsorption isotherm. When activated carbon was treated with acid, the quantity of impregnated metal increased about 1.3 times since the micropores were converted to mesopores or macropores. Both the physical absorption by micropores and chemical absorption by metal ions could be achieved simultaneously with the metal impregnated activated carbon because the capacity of micro pores did not change even after metal ions were impregnated.
The porous alumina membrane was prepared from aluminum metal(99.8%) by anodic oxidation using DC power supply of constant current mode in aqueous solution of sulfuric, oxalic, phosphoric and chromic acid. Pore size and distribution, membrane thickness, morphology and crystal structure were examined with several anodizing conditions : reaction temperature, electrolyte concentration, current density and electrolyte type. It was found that ultrafiltration membrane was fabricated in electrolyte of sulfuric, and oxalic acid. On the other hand, microfiltration membrane was fabricated in electrolyte of phosphoric, and chromic acid. Also, it was shown that crystal structure of porous alumina membrane prepared in sulfuric, oxalic, and phosphoric acid was amorphous, whereas porous alumina membrane prepared in chromic acid had ${\gamma}$ type of crystal structure.
In order to reuse the waste matters, the polyester hybrid composites were fabricated with the waste stone (WSP) and waste tire (WTC). Before mixing, the waste fillers were treated with the silane coupling agent [${\gamma}$-methacryloxy propyl trimethoxy silane(${\gamma}$-MPS)] for enhancing the dispersion of the fillers and interfacial bonding with polymer matrix. Mechanical properties and morphologies of the resulted hybrid composites were investigated with the filler content. The hybrid composites containing surface treated fillers have high initial thermal decomposition temperature and low weight loss compared to the untreated one. The highest mechanical properties of composites were obtained with the ${\gamma}$-MPS (2 wt%) treated fillers. The porosity of composite increased with the content of organic filler which can be reduced by the silane surface treatment of fillers. The pore size distribution of the composites varied with the waste filler content.

Porous silicon film is fabricated by electrochemical etching in a chemical mixture of HF and ethanol. Effects of Si type, Si resistivity, ultrasonic frequency, current density and etching time on surface morphology of PS film were studied. Electrochemical etching in ultrasonic bath promotes the uniformity of porous layer of Si. Frequency of ultrasonic was increased from 40 kHz to 130 kHz to obtain uniform pores on the Si surface. When current density was higher, the sizes of pores were larger. The new etching cell using back contact metal and current shield help to overcome nonhomogeneity and current crowding effect, and then leads to fabricate uniform pores on the Si surface. The distribution of pore size shows no notable tendency with etching time.
In this work, we have prepared the filter papers with the pitch-based activated carbon fibers and the binder fibers using wet-laid process. The influence of the binder fiber on the porosity of the filter papers has been investigated by using nitrogen adsorption isotherms at 77 K and a scanning electron microscope (SEM). As a result, the specific surface area has increased with an decrease in the content of binder fiber. It has been shown that the optimum ratio of pitch-based activated carbon fibers and the binder fibers is 70:30, resulting in high porosity, excellent bonding strength, large specific surface area ($650.4m^2/g$) and high noxious gas removal efficiency (86.9%). In addition, it has been observed that the mean pore size distribution of the fiber papers has not been affected by the binder fiber.
In this study, the Fe3O4/porous carbon composite was synthesized by hydrothermal method for removal of Cu2+ ions and the characteristic of Cu2+ ions removal was performed. The Fe3O4/porous carbon composite was investigated via using SEM, XRD for its morphology and structure. BET analysis was conducted to conform a specific area and pore size distribution of the composite. For the investigation of the performance for removal of Cu2+ ions in the solution, UV-vis spectrometer was used. It suggests that a synergetic effect between magnetic Fe3O4 and porous carbon shows an improvement for removal of Cu2+ ions.

We have carried out quantitative structure and property analysis of the nanoporous structures of low dielectric constant (low-k) carbon-doped silicon oxide (SiCOH) films, which were deposited with plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) using vinyltrimethylsilane (VTMS), divinyldimethylsilane (DVDMS), and tetravinylsilane (TVS) as precursor and oxygen as an oxidant gas. We found that the SiCOH film using VTMS only showed well defined spherical nanopores within the film after thermal annealing at $450^{\circ}C$ for 4 h. The average pore radius of the generated nanopores within VTMS SiCOH film was 1.21 nm with narrow size distribution of 0.2. It was noted that thermally labile $C_{x}H_{y}$ phase and Si-$CH_3$ was removed to make nanopore within the film by thermal annealing. Consequently, this induced that decrease of average electron density from 387 to $321\;nm^{-3}$ with increasing annealing temperature up to $450^{\circ}C$ and taking a longer annealing time up to 4 h. However, the other SiCOH films showed featureless scattering profiles irrespective of annealing conditions and the decreases of electron density were smaller than VTMS SiCOH film. Because, with more vinyl groups are introduced in original precursor molecule, films contain more organic phase with less volatile characteristic due to the crosslinking of vinyl groups. Collectively, the presenting findings show that the organosilane containing vinyl group was quite effective to deposit SiCOH/$C_{x}H_{y}$ dual phase films, and post annealing has an important role on generation of pores with the SiCOH film.
