  • Polyurethane foams were produced by using a homogenizer as a mixing equipment. Effects of stirring speed on the foam structure were investigated with SEM observations. Variation of the bubble size, density of the foam, compressive strength, and thermal conductivity were studied. A hybrid foam consisting of polyurethane foam and commercial polystyrene foam is produced. Mechanical and thermal properties of the hybrid foam were compared with those of pure polyurethane foam. Advancement of flow front during mold filling was observed by using a digital camcorder. Four types of mold geometry were used for mold filling experiments. Flow during mold filling was analyzed by using a two-dimensional control volume finite element method. Variation of foam density with respect to time was experimentally measured. Creeping flow, uniform density, uniform conversion, and uniform temperature were assumed for the numerical simulation. It was assumed for the numerical analysis that the cavity has thin planar geometry and the viscosity is constant. The theoretical predictions were compared with the experimental results and showed good agreement.

  • Conducting polymers are finding increasing number of applications in various electronic devices such as chemical sensors, electrochromic display, light emitting diodes, etc. Polyaniline(PANI) ranks among highly prospective conduction polymers. PANI was first synthesis in 1862[1] and has been extensively studied as a conducting polymer since the 1980s[2]. The side range of electrical, electrochemical and optical properties coupled with good environmental stability makes PANI potentially attractive for application as an electronic material. (omitted)

  • The behavior of abrasive wear on counterpart roughness of glass fiber reinforcement polyurethane resin (GF/PUR) composites were investigated at ambient temperature by pin-on-disc friction test. The friction coefficient, cumulative wear volume and surface roughness of these materials against SiC abrasive paper were determined experimentally. The major failure mechanisms were lapping layers, ploughing, delamination, deformation of resin and cracking by scanning electric microscopy (SEM) photograph of the tested surface. As increasing the counterpart roughness the GF/PUR composites indicated higher friction coefficient. The surface roughness of the GF/PUR composites was increased as the sliding velocity was higher and the counterpart roughness was rougher in wear test.

  • The effect of load and sliding speed on abrasive wear characteristics of glass fiber/polyurethane (GF/PUR) composites were investigated at ambient temperature by pin-on-disc friction test. The friction coefficient, cumulative wear volume and surface roughness of these materials against SiC abrasive paper were determined experimentally. Experimental results showed that the surface roughness of the GF/PUR composites was increased as applied load was higher in wear test. The cumulative wear volume tended to increase nonlinearly with increase of sliding distance and depended on applied load and sliding speed for these composites. It could be verified by scanning electric microscopy (SEM) photograph of surface tested that major failure mechanisms were lapping layers, ploughing, delamination, deformation of resin and cracking.

  • Polyurethane(PU) products are generally used in the automobile, paint, furniture, adhesive, the medical and textile industries. Recently, the increasing acceptance of waterborne polyurethane (WBPU) Is motivated by more stringent environmental requirements, such as the reduction of solvent emissions into the atmosphere [1]. The application for textiles includes suede processing, soft-hand processing, wrinkle-free processing, antistatic processing, sizing and adhesives. (omitted)

  • Shape memory polyurethane (PU) with soft and hard segments has been extensively researched since its discovery by Mitsubishi in 1988 [1]. Hard segments can be formed via hydrogen bonding and crystallization, function as physical crosslinks below melting point (Tm). The reversible phase transformation of the soft segment is responsible for the shape memory effect. (omitted)

  • Polyurethane (PU) layer and copolymer consisted of the different molecular weights (1000 and 2000 g/mol) of poly(propylene glycol) (PPG) were prepared. The damping and mechanical properties of these materials were compared with PU 1000 made by PPG having the molecular weight of 1000 g/mol. The optimum composition of PU2000 used for PU layer and copolymer was diphenylmethane diioscynate (MDI)/propylene glycol (PPG)/butanediol (BD) (1/0.3/0.7) based on the damping and mechanical properties. The damping peak of PU copolymer was higher than those of PU layer and PUI 1000 in low temperature range (-30- $10^{\circ}C$). For application in noise reduction, the transmission loss of the mechanical vibration through solid structure was measured. PU layer and copolymer were used as a damping layer. The transmission loss of PU copolymer was more effective than those of PU layer and PU 1000 in the experimental frequency range.

  • Lightweight board has been used for manufacturing various fields of automotive interior trims for years. The GMPU board was constructed with glass fiber mat, honeycomb and polyurethane foamed using polyol and isocyanate materials which were sprayed by robot that is interlocked foaming machine. For more lightweight and cost reduction this paper shows how to optimize GMPU process parameters that related to foaming condition, robot position and robot velocity for polyurethane weight. The results show that flexural strength and modulus of board's specimens were evaluated by robot velocity and moving pattern. Based on that, a innovative process was developed for more lightweight and cost reduction.
