  • The characters' voices in the movie, Rashomon mean the absence of memories created by self-consciousness in order to avoid the crisis. The varying statements of the characters and the three spaces: the space of Nakanimon (th e ruins), the representation space as polyphony (the forest), the egoistic space of truth (the guardian), show the social ills of doubtfulness and mistrust among the Japanese at that time due to the defeat from the war. This matches with the polyphony theory of Mr. Bakhtin, a Russian cultural critic. The key concept of polyphony theory is that the voices that do not accord each other are not harmonized but each voice builds their own world and participates in the novel without being influenced by the creator. This study's aim is to discuss two aspects; Bakhtin's polypony theory allows polyphony film s to function as cinematic composition and spatial characteristics of polyphony films in the movie, Rashomon.

  • This paper proposes a new aesthetic methodology analyzing the objectives and activity of audience members through the application of the concept of monophony and polyphony to interactive artwork. Monophony and polyphony were new methods for analyzing the voices of speakers in literature as Mikhail Bakhtin, a Russian aesthetic theorist, proposed. This paper proposes a new methodology for analyzing structure and the elements of monophony and polyphony in interactive artwork based on previous studies. Through this new methodology, I have analyzed a total of 9 interactive artworks. As a result, I have found detailed elements of monophony and polyphony in those artworks. This paper also proposes new findings: non-controlled types and controlled types appeared in the interactive artwork under the concept of polyphony. Through these new findings, artists and researchers can apply objectives and activities in interactive artwork through the participation of audience members, thereby leading to new aesthetics in interactive artwork.

  • This paper focused on the difference between an adaptation of novel and movie and the common process of making spy novel into an action-packed movie. The polyphony what Mikhail Bakhtin said turned out to be the way of description for double spy, a major motif of narrative in this novel and movie. There is a new possibility of adaptation that has a dialogical narrative, character description by multiple narrators and repetition of the same place. It was suggested the possibility of polyphonic adaptation by the consideration for a narrative aspect in the process of making the novel into the movie. This study will be expected to be help for studies of an adaptation between the novel and movie.

  • This study is about the polyphony music proportion which appears today in the Architecture space. In the field of interior architecture, there have been many tries of applying characteristics of music, such as abstraction and nature of time for users of space to have new experience. It has been possible because architecture and music have similarities in many ways. Regarding using proportional characteristic in architecture and music, the both fields are enormously related in some ways. The purpose of this study is explaining of possibility of architectural expression in music and suggesting a way of analysing architectural design based on musical elements emphasizing proportional characteristic. Therefore, it is going to analyse Counterpoint of Bach, which is well expressed in music and compare it with proportional characteristic of space through this study.

  • This was originally from the preceding research, '50 years of Sade's Studies,' and we have submitted this thesis by reorganizing it carefully in a paper format. To understand Sade, we had to go through and consider certain characteristics that the critics were reluctant to reveal. In other words, the revelation of the polythony throughout the work, the contradictory philosophical discourse of the characters, and the fact that Marquis' work is a situational text are factors to consider in this case. People have studied Sade disregarding these characteristics for a long period of time. Especially those groups of professional critics, has taken only a certain amount of Sade's work for their theoretical justification. As a result, the work of Sade became unreadable. Fortunately, researchers since 1990 have refused to continue the habitual of regarding Sade in the same light as his characters, and have instead focused on the process of researching the fundamentals based on the correct data, history and ideological context. We think that the research of those who have caused reverberations to the academic world would be the key point to the Studies of Sade in the future research.

  • As a poet, a reviewer of books, and an editor of a major literary journal, Marianne Moore participated in aesthetic revolution which invented the American poetry of the twentieth century. Of all the modernists, she was one of the few truly technical originals, and became an endearing mascot of poetry. Innately attentive to detail, Moore wrote a myriad of poems about animal and plant subjects, and set out to develope and secure her own particular paradigm for modernist poetic and the poetry of objective and scientific description. Foregrounding a mind scientifically trained, Moore used her verse to demonstrate a means by which to see the reality beyond the obvious. Ironically enough, however, a central difficulty with understanding Moore's poetry lies with her concern for such scientific or surface description and precision. In order to understand Moore's poetry fully, it is of special necessity to appreciate relativity among the seemingly disparate entities such as science and literature, as Moore herself did. This paper explores the way in which the poetic techniques of Moore substantiate her sense of morality that underlies the creation of her poetry. Rather than merely addressing her artistic genius or craftsmanship as a modernist poet, Moore's methods engage the power of imagination, magic, lifting the human spirit and eschewing anthropocentric perspectives. For Moore, the poet's magic comes by diligence. In so doing, as I would argue here, Moore draws on the nature of language, especially what Bakhtin insisted with his notions of polyphony and carnival. By introducing openness to various perspectives and meanings in her verse, Moore succeeds in maintaining her own sense of creativity while continuing to acknowledge morality. In a similar skein, her use of active verbs in animal poems and the kaleidoscopic descriptions demonstrate how Moore accommodates imagination and reality, and form and content.

최종 선정된 후보의 미등록어 추정은 SVM(Support Vector Machine)을 기반으로 실시하였다.

  • This study is the one of the first full-scale subsequent research of a TV drama writer who has been out of scholarly pursuits. Along with the 5 advanced research, this study is to analyze Su-Hyeon Kim's difference and her underlying consciousness by applying the Bahktin's dialogism to the author's creating lines instead of existing speech research. Bahktin's dialogism, its core of polyphony, presents a definite purpose to a artistic creation of language. That is to require the author to have 'outsideness' 'boundary carried over' and 'excess of seeing' in a author relation with characters as it leads the characters to 'the whole'. It means an equal relations of mutual independency between the author and the characters. Also this relations accompany by 'unfinalizability of dialogue'. This study ascertains whether the dialogism actually being realized or not in her lines of of her early stage, of melodrama, and of home-drama. The result of this study shows that the she creates 'polyphony', diverse voices of characters, with her mutual independent relations with characters, that is the voices of between characters, between characters' inside. This research also shows that she realizes 'unfinalizability of dialogue' in her drama work itself of open-end as well as in her lines. She has her own consistent distinction of creating lines to be a her drama work itself, that also means to explore language of human beings's existence, and language of perception, instead of using it as a simple tool of making a drama. This study is to explore a subsequent research of the author's lines with another Bahktin's carnivalesque as the lines's importance and the theory's vastness.

  • 1799 Francisco de Goya published Los Caprichos with 80 aquatint etchings. On 6 February he advertised it on the front page of the Diario de Madrid. The long advertisement which began with "a collection of prints of capricious subjects, invented and etched by Don Francisco Goya" informed purpose, themes and methods of this collection of prints. According to this advertisement Goya "has chosen as subjects for his work, from the multitude of follies and mistakes common in every civil society and from the vulgar prejudices and lies authorized by custom, ignorance or self-interest, those that he has thought most fit to provide material for ridicules, and at the same time to exercise the artist's imagination." The text emphasized that the 'author' of this series didn't to want to criticise any individual and to be a copyist. From his phantasy Goya invented many creatures like the anthropic, humanized animals etc.. With Los Caprichos he stood on the threshold to Romanticism. The early researchers of Los Caprichos classified its author, Goya as an enlightened intellectual. The similarity of the themes of the series with the subjects of the Enlightenment, his some enlightened 'friends' and the idea to avoid the prevalent mystification of his life supported this theory. But this trend became revised since the 80's of the last century. This made possible to research Goya's works in new perspective and to see that Goya didn't criticise the Spanish society and his contemporaries. Rather he showed its reality and parodied through creatures which are mixtures of the reality that he observed, and visions that he invented. Characters and scenes in Goya's prints are ambiguous and equivocal. They have the values which are defined by the dualistic metaphysic in Europe as oppositional, like good and evil for example, at the same time. Goya himself also appeared in various types in this series. This ambiguousness, or "polyphony", as Jennis Tomlinson defined, is a symptom of the decay of the belief in the Enlightenment which spreaded in Europe as a result of the attack of Bastille and the French Revolution. Goya's self-portrait in pl. 43 of this series, "El sue$\tilde{n}$o de la razon produce monstruos" shows the complex psychology of him and his contemporaries as well. As the rest etchings after this print show witchcraft and monsters reside in the world in which the reason of the Enlightenment and the through the reason weakened God's rule lost their authority. In this thesis I will examine and analyse how Goya represented in Los Caprichos the nature of man and its society, as complex being in which the 'antagonistic' value couple as good and evil couldn't be divided, but are united.
