Cycling Performance of Li4Ti5O12 Electrodes in Ionic Liquid-Based Gel Polymer Electrolytes

  • We investigated the cycling behavior of $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ electrode in a cross-linked gel polymer electrolyte based on non-flammable ionic liquid consisting of 1-butyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl) imide and vinylene carbonate. The $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ electrodes in ionic liquid-based gel polymer electrolytes exhibited reversible cycling behavior with good capacity retention. Cycling data and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy analyses revealed that the optimum content of the cross-linking agent necessary to ensure both acceptable initial discharge capacity and good capacity retention was about 8 wt %.

  • In this study, polyurethane acrylate macromer was synthesized and it was used in a gel polymer electrolyte, and then its electrochemical performances were evaluated. LiCoO$_2$/GPE/MCF cells were also prepared and their performances depending on discharge currents and temperatures were evaluated. ionic conductivity of the gel polymer electrolyte with PUA at room temperature and -20$^{\circ}C$ was ca. 4.5 x 10$\^$-3/ S/cm and 1.7${\times}$10$\^$-3/ S/cm, respectively. GPE was stable electrochemically up to 4.5 V vs. Li/Li$\^$+/. LiCoO$_2$/GPE/MCF cell showed a good high-rate and a low-temperature performance.

LiCoO$_2$/GPE/graphite cells were Prepared and their performances depending on discharge currents and temperatures were evaluated. The precursor consisting of urethane acrylate (UA), hexanediol dimethacrylate (HDDA) and benzoyl peroxide (BPO) had a low viscosity relatively ionic conductivity of the gel polymer electrolyte with UA at room temperature and -20$\^{C}$ was ca. 4.5 $\times$ 10$\^$-3/S$.$cm$\^$-1/ and 1.7 x 10$\^$-3/ S$.$cm$\^$-1/, respectively GPR was stable electrochemically up to potential of 4.i V vs. Li/Li$\^$+/. LiCoO$_2$/GPE/graphite cells showed good a high-rate and a low-temperature performance.

  • For the effective treatment of aphthous stomatitis, the matrix type mucoadhesive patches containing triamcinolone acetonide have been formulated. The drug layer was obtained by drying the polymer gel which was prepared with carbomer 934P, ammoniomethacrylate copolymer, titanium dioxide and polyethylene glycol 400. The effects of the content of additives on physical characteristics of the polymer gel and the drug layer were evaluated. The addition of carbomer increased the yield point and the zero-shear viscosity of polymer gel as well as the thickness, the water absorption ratio, the adhesive time and $T_{50%}$ of drug layer. The adhesive time and the water absorption ratio of drug layer were also improved by the addition of ammoniomethacrylate copolymer, but the addition of titanium dioxide had decreased the zero-shear viscosity of polymer gel and the adhesive time of drug layer.

  • Highly efficient, three-component condensation of aromatic aldehyde, malononitrile and 4-hydroxycoumarin promoted by neat silica gel at room temperature is described. The method offers an excellent alternative to the synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrano[c]chromenes. The reactions are fast and clean, and the products are obtained with good yield and purity.

  • The (0.8PPV+0.2DMPPV) copolymer and silica/borosilicate composites were synthesized by sol-gel process. The organic-inorganic hybrid solution was prepared by using of (0.8PPV+0.2DMPPV) copolymer precursor solution as a raw material for organic components and TEOS and TMB for glass components. Then by drying the solution in vacuum at 5$0^{\circ}C$ for 7days and subsequent heat treatment in vacuum at 15$0^{\circ}C$~30$0^{\circ}C$ for 2h~72h with heating rate of 0.2$^{\circ}C$/min and 1.8$^{\circ}C$/min, the organic-inorganic composites were synthesized. Microstructural evolution of the composites was characterized by DSC, IR spectrocopy, UV/VIS spectroscopy, and TEM. Elimination of the polymer precursor and degradation of the polymer were observed by DSC and Si-O and trans C=C absorption peaks were identified by IR spectra. The polymer was found to be successfully incorporated into the glass matrix and it was confirmed by the absorption peaks from the polymer in the UV/VIS spectra and the TEM results. The absorption peak of the composites was found to shift toward short wavelength side compared to that of the pure polymer and the amount of the blue shift increased with increasing the heat treatment temperature and heat treatment time and with decreasing the heating rate.

Quasi-Solid-State Polymer Electrolytes Based on a Polymeric Ionic Liquid with High Ionic Conductivity and Enhanced Stability

  • A polymeric ionic liquid, poly(1-methyl 3-(2-acryloyloxypropyl) imidazolium iodide) (PMAPII), was synthesized as a single-iodide-ion-conducting polymer and employed in a gel polymer electrolyte. Gel polymer electrolytes prepared from iodine, 4-tert-butylpyridine, ${\gamma}$-butyrolactone, and PMAPII were applied in quasi-solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The addition of 16 wt.% PMAPII provided the most favorable environment, striking a compromise between the iodide ion concentration and the ionic mobility, which resulted in the highest conversion efficiency of the resulting DSSCs. The quasi-solid-state DSSC assembled with the optimized gel polymer electrolyte exhibited a relatively high conversion efficiency of 7.67% under AM 1.5 illumination at $100mA\;cm^{-2}$ and better stability than that of the DSSC with a liquid electrolyte.

  • Poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate), PHEMA, hybrid gels containing Pluronic and acrylic acid (AAc) were prepared as new biocompatible and stimuli-responsive hydrogels by photo-polymerization technique. The prepared hybrid gel showed reversible, temperature-responsive swelling behavior due to the presence of Pluronic component, which underwent sol-gel transition at an elevated temperature to cause gel shrinkage. The hydrogel also exhibited increased swelling degrees and pH-sensitivity due to the AAc component with ionizable carboxylic acid groups. The microporous gel morphology and its changes upon stimuli was observed by scanning electron microscopy.

Polymer-Ceramic Composite Gel Polymer Electrolyte for High-Electrochemical-Performance Lithium-Ion Batteries (고성능 리튬 이온전지를 위한 폴리머-세라믹 복합 겔 고분자 전해질)

  • In this study, poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVdF-HFP)-based gel polymer electrolyte incorporating nano-size $Al_2O_3$ ceramic particle was prepared by electrospinning. The gel polymer electrolyte (GPE) incorporated with $Al_2O_3$ ceramic particle showed higher ionic conductivity of $9.5{\times}10^{-2}Scm^{-1}$ than pure PVdF-HFP GPE without ceramic particle and improved the electrochemical stability up to 5.2 V. The GPEs were assembled with $LiNi_{1/3}Mn_{1/3}Co_{1/3}O_2$ (NMC) cathode for electrochemical test. The GPE batteries at 0.1 C-rate delivered $168.2mAh\;g^{-1}$ for pure GPE and $189.6mAh\;g^{-1}$ for hybrid GPE, respectively. Therefore, the incorporation of high dielectric constant ceramic particle will be good strategy to enhance the stability and electrochemical properties of lithium ion gel polymer batteries.
