  • Effect of polyaniline and additives on surface appearance of Zn electrodeposition was investigated by SEM and XRD analyzing. We carried out the experiment from sulfate Zinc bath containing sulfonated polyaniline, gelatin and thiourea by EG(Electrogalvanizing) simulator. Addition of polyaniline and gelatin in bath, crystal size and shape of hexagonal plane of Zn crystal reduced. Mixing of thiourea, however, brittle deposits were observed because of the difference between vertical growth and parallel growth. (1011) peak appeared with polyaniline and gelatin in XRD analysis. In case of mixing of polyaniline, gelatin and thiourea, (1011) peak appeared and intensity of Zn basal plane decreased. These results suggested that overpotential increased with addition of polyaniline and additives In bath.

  • Nano-structured polyaniline have been synthesized by interfacial polymerization method at room temperature. An aqueous solution of aniline in chloroform and another solution of ammonium peroxydisulfate in doping acid were prepared at different times terminated with methanol at room temperature. SEM, UV-vis were used to characterize the polyaniline with regard to their morphology and structure. The diameter and length of polyaniline can be controlled by the reaction time. Nano-structured polyaniline were found to have superior sensitivity for volatile organic compounds(VOCs). As the reaction time to increase from 30minute to 2hours the sensitivity were decreased to VOCs vapors. The sensitivity of Nano-structured polyaniline sensor appeared to VOCs better than the sensitivity of chemical synthesis sensors. The sensitivity of Nano-structured polyaniline sensor improved benzene vapors.

  • Increasing environmental concerns require to solve the problem produced due to the use of heavy metals in coating formulations. Therefore, it is necessary to develop new coating strategy employing inherently conducting polymers such as polyaniline. Polyaniline is a conductive polymer that is synthesized by oxidation polymerization, and the electrochemical and chemical polymerization are possible for the oxidation of aniline. Electrochemical oxidation polymerization produces a fine surface and although voltage control is more convenient, it require electrolytic cells, and elaborate thin film can be acquired with the polymerization. Polyaniline films were electro-polymerized on cold rolled sheets using the galvanostat mode in the oxalic acidaniline-sodium molybdate electrolyte. The structure and properties of polyaniline film were studied using Potentiostat/Galvanostat 263A, FE-SEM,, AFM, SST, Colorimetry. A high corrosion resistance of polyaniline film was observed with an increase of corrosion potential by $500{\sim}600$ mV for the substrate covered with polyaniline.

  • Porous matrices for PAFC were prepared with chemically synthesized polyaniline powders. Phosphoric acid doped polyaniline showed decreasing electric conductivities as the temperature increased. Above $100^{\circ}C$, it showed negligible conductivities. It was stable in phosphoric acid up to $250^{\circ}C$. SiC powders or SiC whiskers were added to polyaniline to decrease the thermal expansion of polyaniline. 10% of polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) was also added as a binder. The bubble pressures and wettabilities of matrices were investigated and compared with the porosities measured by porosimeter. Based on these data, the optimum manufacturing condition was determined. The bubble pressure of the matrix made by adding 25w/o SiC whiskers was 345mmHg, the wettability was 235w/o, and the porosity was 83%. In the unit cell operation, the performances of polyaniline matrices were as good as those of SiC matrices. This result suggested that polyaniline can be a possible candidate for the matrix material of PAFC.

  • Polyaniline-Camphorsulfonic Acid Emeraldine Salt(PANI-CSA ES) was prepared by doping Polyaniline Ermeralidine Base(PANI EB) with DL-10-Camphorsulfonic Acid(CSA). PANI-CSA ES was solved in an organic solvent by ultrasonification for different periods of time and its surface resistivity was measured. Several PANI-CSA ES solutions solved in different organic solvents were prepared and their surface resistivities were measured. Thermal stability of film casted with PANI-CAS ES solution in m-cresol was estimated by measuring its surface conductivity and the content of this moisture and organic solvents. PANI-CSA ES was blended with different polymeric binders to improve its physical properties and the surface resistivities of several kinds of PANI-CSA ES blends were measured as a function of the content of PANI-CSA ES. PANI-CSA ES polymerized by 1-step oxidative polymerization was prepared and its surface resistivity was measured.

  • Polyaniline/polystyrene conducting blends were prepared and measured with the mechanical properties such as tensile strength and elongation and the electrcal properties such as surface resistance, electrical conductivity and dielectric loss tangent. The percolation threshold concentration of blends was 5phr of polyaniline and the morphology of blends was setting colser to that of polyaniline at higher concentration. The dielectric loss increased up to $10^5$ at the 50 % of polyaniline and was much influenced by frequency than temperature at higher concentration of polyaniline.

  • The electrochemical characterization was conducted by the addition of chemically synthesized polyaniline on LiCoO$_2$electrode. From the results of XRD and SEM, the phase transition and microstructure were not found. Initial electrochemical characteristics of LiCoO$_2$electrode for lithium secondary battery were evaluated through the charge/discharge within the range of 4.3 V to 3.0 V versus Li/Li$^{+}$. Discharge capacity of LiCoO$_2$electrode without addition of Polyaniline were 160.21 mAh/g. But after addition of polyaniline, lower discharge capacities 25.7 mAh/g was found.d.

  • Graphene and polyaniline with thermoelectric properties are one of the potential substitutes for inorganic materials for flexible thermoelectric applications. In this study, we studied the photo-induced thermoelectric effect of graphene-polyaniline composites. The graphene-polyaniline composites were synthesized by introducing an amine functional group to graphene oxide for covalently connecting graphene and polyaniline, reducing the graphene oxide, and then polymerizing the graphene oxide with aniline. Graphene-polyaniline composites were prepared by changing the aniline contents in order to expect an optimal photothermoelectric effect, and their structural properties were confirmed through FT-IR and Raman analysis. The photocurrent and photovoltage characteristics were analyzed by irradiating light asymmetrically without an external bias and the current and voltage with various aniline contents. While the photocurrent trends to the electrical conductivity of the graphene-polyaniline composites, the photovoltage was related to the temperature change of the graphene-polyaniline composite, which was converted into thermal energy by light.

  • Semiconductive polyaniline and its derivatives such as poly(aniline-co-sodium diphenylamine sulfonate), poly (aniline-co-o-ethoxyaniline), poly (o-methylaniline), and poly (o-methoxyaniline) were synthesized, and then adopted as suspending particles of the electrorheological (ER) fluids. All suspensions of these polyaniline derivatives showed typical ER properties under high applied electric fields. However, flow behaviors are observed to be quite different depending on the polyaniline derivatives, especially in the stress plateau regions obtained at low shear rates. Using a scaling law, we also obtained universal cures of ER fluids from the flow curves at each applied electric field based on the relationship between the dynamic yield stress with the applied electric field and flow curve changes according to the electric fields.
