Pollen morphology of four genera, 22 species of Korean Crassulaceae has been examined with light and scanning electron microscopy. The presence/absence of the aperture margo and granules was useful characters to clarify the generic boundaries, and the shapes of the streate were significant to delineate taxonomic relationships within the genus Sedum. The pollen grains of Korean Crassulaceae were small and medium in size. Hylotelephium viviparum has the smallest pollen grains, and H. viridescens the largest. The pollen grains are tricolporate, circular in polar view and were prolate to prolate-spheroidal in equatorial shape. Korean Crassulaceae species have striate grains. The close pollen morphological relationships among Hylotelephium, Meterostachys and Orostachys species were concordant to the results based on the previous molecular and morphological studies. The results of the clustering analysis using pollen characters support the segregation of Sedum sensu lato which has been proposed by the previous authors. Within the genus Sedum, S. kamtschatium is closely related to S. middendorffianum with granules on the surface of the pollen grains. Sedum polytrichoides, a member of the Sedum, was clustered to the species of the Meterostachys, Hylotelephium and Orostachys, and needs to reexamine the taxonomic status. O. malacophyllus collected at Chungdong-Jin was significantly differ from the same species from Gampo in pollen and morphological characters.
The pollen morphology of 2 forms, 6 varieties, 50 species, 15 genera, 11 families of Korean Sapindales was studied. The keys were provided for general and families of Korean Sapindales. General pollen morphology was diversed and taxonomically significant differences were obtained in shape, aperture, type and size, sculpture pattern and exine thickness of pollen grains. Pollen grains of Korean Sapindales could be grouped into four types and five subtypes. One of five sub-types pollen grains of Acer could be ground into four under subtypes: ginnala type, barbinerve type, psseudo-sieboldianum type and negundo type. Pollen morphology of Empetraceae, Buxaceae and Balsaminaceae appeared to have very special features in the equatorial view and aperature type compare with pollen grain of the other families of Korean Sapindales.
To investigate varietal differences of anther size, pollen shape, pollen fertility and other agronomic characters under low temperature condition. twenty rice varieties (5 Tongil and 15 Japonica type) were treated at 19$^{\circ}C$ water temperature from booting to heading stage. There was varietal difference of low temperature response which was indicated by the delayed heading, the shortening of culm and panicle length. and the decrease of grain fertility and yield potential resulted from cooling treatment at booting stage. The varieties with low fertility damaged by the low temperature treatment at booting stage showed low pollen density per anther. small or abnormal anthers and pollen, and many sterile pollens. Anther length was correlated significantly with the number of pollens per anther and pollen fertility.
Pollen morphological characteristics of 7 taxa of the genus Aruncus L. (Rosaceae) were examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to evaluate the taxonomic implication within the genus. Aruncus pollen grains were monad, tri-colporate with granular membranes, small in size ($P=8.33-12.57{\mu}m$, $E=8.93-14.40{\mu}m$), amb is sub-circular to circular, suboblate to prolate-spheroidal in shape (P/E = 0.68-1.70). The sexine ornamentation in all studied taxa was basically striate but existence of perforation (striate-perforate: A. dioicus, A. dioicus var. acuminatus, A. dioicus var. astilboides, A. dioicus var. pubescens, A. dioicus var. vulgaris; striate-pstilate: A. dioicus var. aethusifolius, A. gombalanus) and the widths of muri and grooves varied according to the taxa. In particular, relatively short, and sharply crested muri being a distinct feature of A. dioicus var. acuminatus. As a result, the various combination of each pollen characteristics could be useful to identify the some taxa of the genus Aruncus.
Pollen morphology of 13 species of Korean Euphorbia was re-examined by means of LM and SEM. Taxonomic evaluation of palynological characters and relationships among taxa were also discussed based on the analysis of polar length, equatorial diameter, aperture size and exine thickness. Korean Euphorbia species were classified into three groups based on the mean size of polar length (P) and equatorial diameter (E) as follows:Group 1. sect. Tulocarpa and Tithymalus of subgenus Esula; $(P){\times}(E)=(54.88-67.17{\mu}m){\times}(44.30-64.75{\mu}m)$, Group 2. sect. Esula and Helioscpiae of subgenus Esula; $(P){\times}(E)=(39.98-47.24{\mu}m){\times}(36.07-38.83{\mu}m)$, Group 3. sect. Chamaesyce and Hypericifoliae of subgenus Chamaesyce; $(P){\times}(E)=(30.32-32.51{\mu}m){\times}(21.71-26.23{\mu}m)$. Various features of surface sculpturing were also grouped into 8 types by the characteristics of perporation size and distance of perporations as well as connection state of it. Pollen size and surface sculpturing were comparatively available in the levels of subgenus and section. Especially subgenus Chamaesyce was distinctly different from subgenus Esula by having compactly distributed perporations on exine surface as well as its small size of pollen grains. Because of the great variations in pollen size and the occurrence of various types of surface sculpturing according to the local poulations of each species, it was evaluated that they were unsuitable in classifying each species of Euphorbia. But such cases, that is, E. hylonoma being more familiar with E. ebracteolata than E. Pallasii, and E. pekinensis and E. fauriei as well as E. pallasii being strongly related with each other based on the similarity of surface sculpturing, reflected its usefulness in the classification of some Euphorbia species.

Unreduced (2n) gametes are meiotic products (pollen or egg) having a sporophytic (somatic) chromosome number, resulting from abnormalities during either microsporogenesis or megasporogenesis. They occur naturally at a low frequency in many plant species. Unreduced (2n) gametes in plants can be identified for four possible ways as follow i) pollen size and/or shape differences between haploid (n) and diploid (2n) pollen, ii) ploidy analysis (chromosome number) of progeny or meiotic analysis (presence of dyads andlor triads at the microspore stage), iii) progeny performance and fertility and iv) dosage of isozyme and DNA markers. Unreduced (2n) gametes can be an effective breeding tool in synthesizing new cultivars, providing a unique method to maximizing heterozygosity, i.e., transferring a large proportion of the non-additive genetic effects (intra- and inter- locus interactions) h m parent to offspring and can also be used to overcome infertility of interploidy crosses. Sexual polyploidization through 2n gametes has been a major route to the formation of naturally occurring polyploids. The three mechanisms of 2n pollen formation in potato have been discovered as follow: i) parallel spindles (ps) or tripolar spindles (ts), ii) premature cytokinesis (pc-I, pc-2) and iii) synaptic mutants (sy-2, sy-3, sy-4). Genetic analysis indicated that the mechanisms of 2n gamete formation were controlled by single recessive gene in potato, alfalfa, red clover, etc., and by two recessive genes in wheat. The use of 2n gametes which can efficiently transfer germplasm fiom wild relatives to cultivated species, especially fiom diploid to tetraploid could make a contribution to the improvement of germplasm base in breeding programs.
A brief review of current status in the field of agricultural spray and future research challenges are presented. Researches on the pesticides sprays, pollen sprays, postharvest sprays, and biological control agent sprays among the various applications of agricultural spray were selected and reviewed. In the agrochemical sprays, the techniques to increase the deposition such as electrospray and reduce the drift such as introductions of drift retardants and of mechanical means are reviewed. The introduction of mechanical means includes low drift, air-assisted, air inclusion, shield or shroud assisted and pulse flow nozzles. For flat fan nozzles, the data of breakup length and thickness of liquid sheet are essential to understand the atomization processes and develop the transport model to target In the air-assisted spray technology to reduce drift, further works on the effect of application height on drift and air assistance on droplet size should be followed. In addition, methods for quantifying the included air in the air inclusion techniques are required. The atomization characteristics of biopesticides spray are not being elucidated and the formulations of biopesticides should be taken into account the spray characteristics of existing nozzle and sprayer. A few researches on the droplet size of fallout can be found in the literature. A combined technology with electrostatic method into one of method for the reduction of drift may be an effective strategy for increasing deposition and reducing drift. Only an integrated approach involving all stakeholders such as engineers, chemists, and biologists, etc. can result in improved application of agricultural spray.
Pollen grains of 17 taxa (14 species with two additional subspecies and one variety) of genera Patrinia Juss. and Nardostachys DC. in tribe Patrinieae (Valerianaceae) were studied using light microscope, scanning electron microscope, and transmission electron microscope. Pollen grains are medium ($37.41{\times}43.60{\mu}m$ - $45.65{\times}48.50{\mu}m$) to large ($54.88{\times}59.41{\mu}m$ - $61.70{\times}71.00{\mu}m$) in size, tricolpate (rarely tetracolpate) with the characteristic halo surrounding the aperture. In equatorial view, the pollen is oblate to subprolate, and in polar view, it is mostly circular or rarely 3-lobed. Two major pollen types are recognized on the basis of exine sculpturing patterns; Type I: Exine is composed of echinae together with sparse or dense microechinae, and verrucae shallow or rarely absent (Nardostachys and sections Paleopatrinia, and Monanadropatrinia of Patirinia). - Type II: Exine is composed of massive echinae together with dense microechinae, and prominent verrucae (section Centrotrinia of Patrinia). In TEM sections, columellae are extended from the footlayer into verrucae, and exine thickness is uniform at the pole and equator. Additionally, the infrageneric classification systems of the Patrinieae were evaluated on the basis of the present data.
I tried to specify the taxa of Fagaceae in Korea by the character of their pollen grains. The light microscope(LM) and the Scanning electron microscope(SEM) were used to examine the pollen grains of 19 taxa, 5 genera. The result are as follows. 1. The pollen of Fagaceae in Korea could be grouped into four types and 4 subtypes. 1) Fagus type 2) Castanea type 3) Lithocarpus, Castanopsis type 4) Quercus type (1) Cyclobalanopsis subtype (2) Prinus subtype (3) Dentatae subtype (4) Cerris subtype. 2. The morphology of the granula on the pollen of Quercus was closely related to the differantiation of the shape of the cup scales. 1) The uniformity of branching granula on the pollen grain surface corresponds to the morphological features of the concentric arrangement of cup scales. 2) The morphological features of the pollen grain surface intermingled with large or small granula, simple-granula and tuber granula which have small points of circular prominence, corresponded to those of short cup scales. 3) The morphological features of the polllen grain surface intermingled with large or small granula, simple-granula and tuber granula with an apex of amoeba type corresponded to those of Q. dentata Thunb, with thin, fine and long cup scales. 4) The morphological features of the pollen grain surface intermingled with large of small granula of with only simple-granula, corresponded to those of Q. acutissima carr. with thick, fine and long cup scales. 3. The result of cluster analysis by coding the sculpture pattern of the pollen grain surface, the existence and nonexistence of surface perforate, the grain size and granula type were coincident with the system of classification of plants and showed an intimated relationship even under th level of species.
Several fluvial terraces were developed in the Kajo Basin located in Kochang-gun, Kyongsangnam-do, Korea. The peat layers are formed on a fluvial terrace of them. To clarify the geomorphic development of this basin, a detailed classification of geomorphic surfaces, a soil profile study, grain size analysis, pollen analysis of the peat layers and C-14 dating were made. The main findings are as follows: 1) The Kajo Basin was formed by a differential erosion of granic rocks. The surrounding mountains are contact-metamorphosed gneiss and sedimentary rocks. 2) Seven geomorphic surfaces were recognized. They are named the H1, H2, M1, M2, T, L1 and L2 surfaces, from older to younger. 3) C-14 dating and the pollen analysis indicate that the L1 surface was formed during the Early Wurm Glacial. 4) The formation periods of the L2, M and H surfaces are supposed to be the Late Wurm, Riss and Mindel glacial, respectively, on the basis of the color of soil horizons (with or without the Red Soil) and the weathering degree of gravels. 5) Betula and Pices were dominant in the pollen of the Kajo Basin around 30,000 years B.P.
