The interactive diffusion of technological knowledge across industries is reckoned as the principal determinant of the industrial competitiveness in the knowledge-based economy. The flow of technological knowledge takes place through two major channels, embodied and disembodied ones. This paper analyzes, from the dynamic perspective, the functional role and changing relationship of major Korean industries in terms of embodied and disembodied technological knowledge flow-structures during 1980s. We measure, as a proxy, the knowledge by the number of R&D researchers. The inter-industrial embodied and disembodied knowledge flows are measured by the input-output technique and the technological similarity is quantified according to the R&D researchers'academic background, respectively. Based on the comparative and correlation analysis between the two knowledge flow-structures, it is found that there exist, albeit not striking, both similarities and differences between them. However, interestingly and indicatively, we find that the two flow structures become more similar as time goes by. Some explanatory comments and policy implications are presented.

With the advent of knowledge-based economy and information society, information and telecommunications(IT) industry is reckoned as the crucial sector for the creation and diffusion of technological knowledge. In this study, we analyze the process of 'industrialization of IT'and 'informatization of industries' based on the technology linkage structure, or technological knowledge network. The former is defined as the process whereby IT industry absorbs technological knowledge from other industries to grow as an independent industrial sector. The latter is defined as the process whereby other industries adopt IT technology to enhance productivity and upgrade industrial structure, We employ the R&D stock as a proxy for technological knowledge of respective industries and measure the flow of technological knowledge between industries in terms of I/O relationship. By applying the network analysis, we examine the changing pattern of technology linkage structure of the Korean industry throughout the years from 1983 to 1997. Some policy implications are presented based on the findings from the analysis.

Using the Census on Establishments collected by Statistics Korea, we analyze how the patterns of job creation and destruction differ across counties (si-gun-gu). We measure aggregate employment changes due to establishment startups, expansions, contractions, and shutdowns for each county and quantify the role of such reallocations in explaining variation in employment growth across counties. Overall we find that both rates of net entry and job creation play an important role in explaining differences in net job creation rates across regions. Moreover, counties with high employment growth rates also tend to have high exit and job destruction rates, which suggests that an active process of job reallocation is a key source of regional employment growth.

The purposes of this study are to measure the prevalence of parental violence toward adolescents and to explore the predictors based on a data gathered from a sample of adolescents. A total of 1,451 adolescents attending middle and high school in Seoul and rural area completed a structured questionnaire. The results show that about 32% of the respondents are physically assaulted by their father and/or mother for the past year. A logistic analysis shows that adolescents are more likely to experience parental violence when their parents have frequent marital conflicts and when parents use violence between themselves than the adolescent whose parents have no frequent spousal conflict and no domestic violence. The results also show that the age of adolescents and the changes in the level of academic achievement are significant predictors of adolescents'experience of parental violence. The probability of experiencing parental violence was lowered as age increased. When adolescent had a significant drop in school achievement, the probability of experiencing parental violence increased. Based on these findings, research and policy implications to reduce and prevent the family violence toward adolescents are discussed.

New technologies and techniques to extract natural gas and gas liquids, as well as petroleum, from shale rock have greatly altered expectations for North America's capacity to produce energy products. As a result of innovations such as hydraulic fracturing, some government, industry, and academic observers have predicted that the United States will soon become energy self-sufficient and possibly become a net exporter of natural gas and petroleum. This paper will cover literature review and measure the potential impacts on economic growth and development. Fracking, renewable energy are just a few of the things that have reshaped the energy picture over the past 20 years, how much it will change in the next 20 years and the impacts on the economy will be discussed.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the teaching competency level of professor and to suppose the strategies and policy issues for improving teacher librarian education system in Korea. This study was carried out to measure teaching competency of teacher librarian. This study participated by 120 elementary schools and secondary teacher librarian. The questionnaire consisted of 52 items for measuring teaching competencies of teacher librarian divided into nine area competencies. Based on the analysis results of this study, It was suggested the revision strategies of teacher education system.

Recently, as part of an effort to realize the low-carbon green growth, the research to measure the degree of greening about the road facility with United States as its center was performed. In addition, the Green-road certification is enforced and applied. In this study, we would like to examine the applicability of the green-road certification to domestic road to promote the settlement of green-road certification system to contribute the related industry development for the green technology development and application and spread in the roads sector.

After the WHO Growth Standards (WHOGS) was published in 2006, many countries in the world endorsed and adopted the new growth references as a standard measure for the growth of infants and young children. Certainly, the WHOGS has an impact on the global policy about obesity and underweight in children. Such WHOGS innovation has influenced many regional health authorities and academies, which have managed their own growth charts for a long time, in changing their strategies to develop and use regional growth charts. In Korea, along with the tradition to create a national growth chart every decade, we now face a new era of advancing with the WHOGS.

Noise map presents new alternatives of noise reduction counter measure and becomes important tool for making environmental policy. Many input factors such as road conditions, number of vehicles, speeds of vehicles are used for noise prediction of the noise map. However, results of noise prediction make difference depending on the values of the input factors. In this study, it researched effect of measurement method for vehicle speeds on the prediction results of the noise map.

As an alternative to classical maximum likelihood approach for analyzing dichotomous choice contingent valuation (DCCV) data, this paper develops a Bayesian approach. By using the idea of Gibbs sampling and data augmentation, the approach enables one to perform exact inference for DCCV models. A by-product from the approach is welfare measure, such as the mean willingness to pay, and its confidence interval, which can be used for policy analysis. The efficacy of the approach relative to the classical approach is discussed in the context of empirical DCCV studies. It is concluded that there appears to be considerable scope for the use of the Bayesian analysis in dealing with DCCV data.
