  • As the accuracy in the measurement of cosmological parameters is ever-increasing in this era of precision cosmology, astrophysical constraints on high-redshift universe is also getting tighter. Three dimensional (3D) tomography of the high-redshift (z>~7) universe is expected to be made through the next-generation radio telescopes including various SKA pathfinders and SKA itself, which calls for extensive theoretical predictions. We present our new simulations of cosmic reionization covering the full dynamic range of radiation sources, and also the mock data for the (1) large-scale CMB polarization anisotropy for Planck mission, (2) small-scale, kinetic Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect for South Pole Telescope project, and (3) 21-cm observations. We show that the new constraints on CMB from Planck will constrain the models of reionization significantly, which then should be tested by 3D tomography of high-redshift universe through the 21-cm observations by future radio telescopes.

  • We study the ballistic spin transport properties in a two-dimensional electron gas system in the presence of magnetic barriers using a transfer matrix method. We concentrate on the size-effect of the magnetic barriers parallel to a two-dimensional electron gas plane. We calculate the transmission probability of the ballistic spin transport in the magnetic barrier structure while varying the width of the magnetic barriers. It is shown that resonant tunneling oscillation is affected by the width and height of the magnetic barriers sensitively as well as by the inter-spacing of the barriers. We also consider the effect of additional electrostatic modulation on the top of the magnetic barriers, which could enhance the current spin polarization. Because all-semiconductor-based devices are free from the resistance mismatch problem, a resonant tunneling structure using the two-dimensional electron gas system with electric-magnetic modulation would play an important role in future spintronics applications. From the results here, we provide information on the physical parameters of a device to produce well-defined spin-polarized current.

  • An analysis method for the electromagnetic scattering of a Tm polarized plane wave from a periodic strip grating over a grounded dielectric slab is considered from the viewpoint of reflection grating problem. The parameters of strip gratings showing Bargg and Off-Bragg blazing phenomena at the frequency of 10GHz are derived teoretically. The strip grating structure is implemented using Aluminum plate(groung conductor), paraffin(dielectric material.epsilon.$_{r}$=2.24), and copper(strip conductor0.08m thickness). The experimental results(reflection power) of Bragg as well as Off-Bragg blazing phenomenon for TM polarized plane wave have been compared with the theoretical results and fairly good agreements between theory and experiment have been observed.d.

  • Heat cycle aging of insulating materials in large generator stator winding has been investigated using both on-line and off-line test methods. On this study, principally, off-line test against actual generator in service was carried out to acquire information about polarization index(PI) and dissipation factor, dissipation factor tip-up, maximum partial discharge for the purpose of remnant breakdown voltage and life assessment. It was found from the tests that both dissipation factor and maximum partial discharge decreased with the increase of operating hours and starting numbers. It was found from off-line tests that the remnant breakdown voltage had a strong relationship with both dissipation factor and maximum partial discharge the remnant breakdown voltage as a results of both operating hours and starting number and the nondestructive tests were proposed as parameters which can predict the remnant lifetime of insulating materials in large generator stator windings. • A low loss x-cut LiNbO$_3$ optical waveguide was fabricated by Ti in-diffusion and the guided-mode properties and total insertion loss of pigtailing with polarization maintaining fiber(PMF) were investigated and measured at optical wavelength 15507. For formaing the waveguide, the parameters of diffusion Ti thickness, waveguide line-width, length, diffusion temperature, time and atmosphere were set 1400$\AA$, 8${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 3.3cm, 105$0^{\circ}C$, 8 hours and wet bubbled oxygen, respectively. and then After the polishing and pigtailing, it showed that total insertion loss was -4.1dB for TM mode, -5.5dB for TE mode, and mode size, that is, horizontal/vertical sizes were 13.87/18${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ for TM mode, 9.61${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/6.5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ for TE mode.

  • In this paper, we design a microstrip patch antenna using 3-dimensional microstrip transition with the VSWR 1.3 over the PCS band (1.75 -1.87 GHz). We study experimentally the effect of the antenna parameters on antenna input impedance. And using the proposed antenna, we fabricate a polarization diversity any antenna and discuss the possibility of antenna for PCS base station.

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the relationship between polarimetric radar backscatters and stand characteristics over the mountainous forest area. L- and P-band full polarimetric airborne SAR data obtained in September 2000 were processed to compare with forest stand maps and ground collected stand variables. After the geometric registration of SAR image, mean radar backscatters were extracted for those ground plots where the stand parameters, such as tree height, DBH, and basal area, were measured during and after the SAR data acquisition. Preliminary analysis was focused on the topographic influence of radar backscattering under the homogeneous forest stand condition. Topographic effects, assessed by the local incidence angles, were different obvious in L-band data while it was not clear with P-band data.

  • The purpose of this paper is to acquire the data related to insulation evaluation of hybrid vehicle traction motors. We carried out a comparative analysis on Insulation Resistance (IR) and Polarization Index (PI) of motor stators according to IEEE Std. 43 and IEC 60085-1 for insulation resistance test standard of rotating machinery. Maximum test voltage which is applied to between a phase and enclosure was set at 500 V. The IRs of the used motors were lower than those of the new ones. The PIs of the used motor were ranges from 0.74 to 1.1 and did not meet the recommendation basis 2 for insulation level H. From the experimental results, we could prepare parameters and basis for insulation evaluation of motor stators by comparative analysis of the IR and the PI.

  • Spectroscopic ellipsometry is a powerful tool for analyzing optical properties of material. Ellipsometry measurement results is usually given by change of polarization state of probe light, so the measured result should be properly treated and transformed to meaningful parameters by transformation and modeling of the measurement result. In case of hydrogenated amorphous silicon, Tauc-Lorentz dispersion is usually used to model the measured ellipsometry spectrum. In this paper, modeling of spectroscopic ellipsometry result of hydrogenated amorphous silicon using Tauc-Lorentz dispersion is discussed.

  • A broad dual-band terahertz metamaterial filter with sharp out-of-band rejections is designed and demonstrated. The center frequencies of the first and the second bands occur at 0.35 THz and 0.96 THz with 3 dB relative bandwidth of 31% and 17%, respectively. Results are measured using a THz time-domain spectroscopy system that shows agreement with simulations. Physical mechanisms of the broad dual-band resonance are clarified based on transmissions of different structures and surface current density distributions. Influence of structure parameters on the transmission characteristics are discussed. Symmetry of the structure ensures the filter polarization independence at normal incidence. These results supported by the design of the filter could find applications in broad multi-band sensors, terahertz communication systems, and other emerging terahertz technologies.
