Angle-Range-Polarization Estimation for Polarization Sensitive Bistatic FDA-MIMO Radar via PARAFAC Algorithm

  • In this paper, we study the estimation of angle, range and polarization parameters of a bistatic polarization sensitive frequency diverse array multiple-input multiple-output (PSFDA-MIMO) radar system. The application of polarization sensitive array in receiver is explored. A signal model of bistatic PSFDA-MIMO radar system is established. In order to utilize the multi-dimensional structure of array signals, the matched filtering radar data can be represented by a third-order tensor model. A joint estimation of the direction-of-departure (DOD), direction-of-arrival (DOA), range and polarization parameters based on parallel factor (PARAFAC) algorithm is proposed. The proposed algorithm does not need to search spectral peaks and singular value decomposition, and can obtain automatic pairing estimation. The method was compared with the existing methods, and the results show that the performance of the method is better. Therefore, the accuracy of the parameter estimation is further improved.

A Corner-Fed Microstrip Circular Antenna with Switchable Polarization

  • In this paper, a design for a novel microstrip antenna with circular polarization diversity is proposed and experimentally investigated. This antenna is excited by a microstrip line, which is located at the corner of a circular patch. The polarization state can be switched electrically by setting a diode to on or off. The novel structure we describe here enables the optimization of the input match for both polarizations. From the measured result, good axial ratios are observed at the operating frequencies.

  • In this paper we fabricated a fiber device composed of cascaded long-period fiber gratings between which a birefringent erbium-doped fiber was inserted and proposed its application as a polarization-controlled interleaved signal gating fiber device. Because the core and cladding modes of the fabricated fiber device have polarization-dependent phase difference due to the birefringence of the erbium-doped fiber, its interference spectrum can be modulated by varying the input polarization.

  • Performances of LCDs are generally evaluated in terms of luminance and color versus viewing angle. In the present paper we show that this type of display can be favorably characterized in terms of polarization. We show that ELDIM EZContrast instrument can be used to measure the degree of polarization the light and the ellipticity and polarization direction of the polarized component. This measurement is made versus incidence angle between 0 and $88{\circ}$ and for all the azimuth angles. Important differences between the displays can be detected and related to their internal structures when luminance and color profiles are quite similar.

  • In this paper. to eliminate a cross-polarization interference caused by co-channel dual polarization technique of digital radio relay system(DRRS), a cross-polarization interference canceller(XPIC) is analysed in terms of the analytical modeling, digital design, and its performance. By virtue of a 13-tap adaptive equalizer and XPIC, about 23dB in XPIC improvement can be obtained by computer simulation. To show the operation of designed XPIC, some simulated results are reviewed under 64-QAM DRRS with co -channel dual Polarization.

  • This paper proposes a CP-OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing using Circular Polarization) system for improving the system performance. The circular polarization has a characteristic that it cannot receive the reflected waves which are reflected by odd times. By reducing the influences of the reflected waves, the circular polarization can reduce the time delay spread and the inter-channel interference. The guard interval needed for the OFDM frame can be minimized and the orthogonality between subchannels can be improved by using circular polarization. Therefore the proposed CP-OFDM system can improve the system performance as well as the spectrum efficiency. Both theoretical analysis and system simulation results are described.

A Polarization Diversity Patch Antenna with a Reconfigurable Feeding Network

  • This paper proposes a reconfigurable square-patch antenna with polarization diversity. The proposed antenna consists of a square radiating patch and a Y-shaped feed structure with two PIN diodes. The shape of the feed structure can be changed by adjusting the bias states of the two PIN diodes, which helps switch between two orthogonal linear polarizations. The polarization diversity characteristic is validated by the simulated current distribution and the measured radiation pattern.

  • We proposed an optical encryption system using circular polarization based on interferometer. The phase modulated input image, represented as orthogonal linearly polarized states respectively, is encrypted into circularly polarized states using polarization modulated masks. In the decryption we use the inverse matrix of polarization modulation mask and can recover the original polarization states.

  • Capacity reflecting effects of quantized feedback information is evaluated through computer simulation for practical implementation of polarization angle estimation and compensation. In the dual-polarization antenna case, evaluated capacity values varies more than four times depending on accuracy of the polarization angle estimation and compensation. Using 6-bit the quantized feedback information, we can achieve 96.8 percentage of the capacity of the perfect feedback information case.

  • We have described a polarization selective diffraction grating using liquid crystal polymer and experimentally demonstrated. From the experimental results, intensity ratios of 1.171 for p-polarization and of 0.0072 for s-polarization are achieved by 650nm wavelength, respectively.
