  • Polyurethane elastomers are segmented cocoplymer with an [HS]n-type structure. Typically, these materials are two-phase systems, prepared from relatively polar and stiff component called the hard segment(H) and relatively flexible component known as the soft segment(S). Diisocyanate and chain extender together form the hard segment, which is dispersed within a matrix of the soft segment, composed of the macrodiolos.(omitted)

  • The K Ar ages, whole rock geochemistry and Sr Nd Pb isotopes have been determined for the submarine basalts dredged from the P2 and P3 segments of the Antarctic-Phoenix Ridge (APR), Drake Passage, Antarctica, for better understanding on temporal variation of magma chemistry in association with extinction of seafloor spreading. The fossilized APR is distant from the known hot spots, and consists of older N-MORB prior to extinction of spreading and younger E-MORB after extinction. The older N-MORB (3.5-6.4 Ma) occur in the southeast flank of the P3 segment (PR3) and the younger E-MORB (1.4-3.1 Ma) comprise a huge seamount at the P3 segment (SPR) and a big volcanic edifice at the P2 segment (PR2). The N-type PR3 basalts have higher Mg#, K/Ba, and CaO/Al2O3 and lower Zr/Y, Sr, and Na8.0 with slight enrichment in incompatible elements and almost flat REE patterns. The E-type SPR and PR2 basalts are highly enriched in incompatible elements and LREE. The extinction of spreading occurring at 3.3 Ma seems to have led to a temporal magma oversupply with E-MORB signatures. Geochemical signatures such as Ba/TiO2, Ba/La, and Sm/La suggest heterogeneity of upper mantle and formation of E-MORB by higher contribution of enriched materials to mantle melting, compared to N-MORB environment. E-MORB magmas beneath the APR seem to have been produced by low melting degree (up to 1% or more) at deeper low-temperature regime, where metasomatized veins consisting of pyroxenites have preferentially participated in the melting. The occurrence of E-MORB at the APR is a good example to better understand what kinds of magmatism would occur in association with extinction of spreading.

  • The axial seamount basalts in the P3 segment of the Phoenix Ridge were obtained from dredging and the K-Ar age determination and whole-rock geochemical analyses have been done for understanding their origin. The K-Ar ages for PRS basalts sampled from 1,000m below sea level are 2.6-2.2 Ma and those for PR3 basalts from 800m are 1.6-1.5 Ma. The younger ages towards the crest of the seamount indicate that this submarine volcano has been grown by central eruptions. The youngest age of about 1.5 Ma for PR3 basalts corresponds to the final eruption period of this volcano. The seamount basalts contain small amounts of normative quartz and olivine. They have transitional geochemical nature between alkaline- and subalkaline-series basalts. Trace and rare earth elements compositions of the seamount basalts are very similar to those of ocean island basalts (OIB), and indicate that this seamount has been formed by a hotspot activity, not in association with a seafloor spreading. The melting degree from the source has decreased with time, and finally the volcanic activity has stopped when the basaltic magma reached mild alkaline composition.

  • K-Ar ages have been determined for the submarine basalts dredged from the P2 and P3 segments of the Phoenix Ridge, Drake Passage, Antarctica, for better understanding on the extinction of seafloor spreading. At the P3 segment, the K-Ar ages of the rifted ridge basalts are 3.5-6.4 Ma, and those for the axial seamount basalts are 1.5-3.1 Ma. The K-Ar ages for the basalts at the rifted ridge and axial central high in the P2 segment are 2.1 and 1.4-1.9 Ma, respectively. We suggest that the extinction of seafloor spreading at the P3 and P2 segments occurred at 3.3 and 2.0 Ma, respectively, on the basis of ridge structure and formation time of basalts. This result favors a stepwise extinction model rather than a simultaneous one on the extinction of the Phoenix Ridge.

  • We detect a new population of chromospheric jets in a polar coronal hole observed by Hinode/SOT. The propagating speed of the jets ranges in 30 - 490 km/s whose duration time is 3 - 52 s. The recurrent rate is approximately 3/min for a give segment of 1 arc-second horizontal interval. These jets are seemed to be more transient and faster than type II spicules at chromosphere, while the properties are compatible with the network jets seen in emission lines of transition region. We will discuss the implication of these jets for a coronal heating.

  • In this paper, we propose the pulmonary nodule detection system based on voxel classification. The proposed system consists of three main steps. In the first step, we segment lung volume. In the second step, the lung structures are initially segmented. In the last step, we classify the nodules using voxel classification. To describe characteristics of each voxel, we extract the log-polar sampling based features. Support Vector Machine is applied to the extracted features to classify into nodules and non-nodules.

  • We have prepared an amphiphilic wedge-coil molecule consisting of a hydrophobic wedge-like segment and a hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) segment. The wedge-coil block molecule self-assembles into cylindrical nanofibers in both polar as well as nonpolar solvents. Remarkably, the resulting nanofibers, as solvent polarity change from water to n-hexane, change from highly flexible coil-like to stiff rod-like characteristics. This dynamic switching in the stiffness of the nanofibers in response to solvent polarity is attributed to the structural inversion of cylindrical core from bulky dendritic segments with amorphous nature to crystallizable linear PEO segments.

  • This study was designed to investigate the relationships of cations to the polar regeneration of adventitious buds on midvein segments of poplar leaves. Basal regeneration was disturbed by adding $Ca^{2+}$. When higher concentration of exogeneous $Ca^{2+}$ was added to the WPM (Woody Plant Medium), the more adventitious buds were formed on midvein segments, and polar regeneration was inhibited. Added $Ca^{2+}$ from 0 to 9.70 mM with 0.5 mM of EGT A to WPM decreased the calcium effect. The treatment of $La^{3+$ with 7.05 mM of $Ca^{2+}$ ovecame the effect of $Ca^{2+}$. The cations $Mg^{2+}\;and\;K^{+}$ also caused regeneration on both basal and distal site. However, polar regeneration was maintained in the medium containing $Ca^{2+}$ without $Mg^{2+}$. The above result suggests that exogenous $Ca^{2+}$ or cations inhibit polar regeneration of poplar.poplar.

  • This research suggested the mathematical model (forward kinematics method) to provide the reference points of driver space more easily and accurately in designing the package layout of vehicle interiors. For this purpose, the lengths of body segments of drivers and various joint angles occurred while were used. The length data between joints for the mathematical model were extracted from $SAFEWORK^{\circed{R}}$ as well as 95th percentile male and 5th percentile female body dimensions were utilized. In addition, the angles of body segments were applied on its diverse values within proper ranges in order to compare them each other. the mathematical model in this study was based on the concept of converting polar coordinate system to Cartesian coordinate system so that reference points of driver space were acquired in Cartesian coordinate system after using the segment lengths of drivers and the joint angles of driving postures as an input of polar coordinate system. It is expected that reference points of driver space obtained from this research are helpful to the study on package layout that is appropriate for physical characteristics of drivers.

  • When markers attached to body segment are captured by camera, they generally have many noises due to intrinsic biomechanical characteristics. In this study, one technique to reduce these noises is suggested, which constructs a local coordinates of the markers using time-mean lengths of the measured markers and calculates a linear transformation matrix of the interesting body using least square error technique. This matrix is decomposed into two matrices of rotation and flexibility. Suggested method does well for 3 markers or more, and shows consistent results without regard to choice of reference axis.
