The physical and mathematical foundations of the heat-shielding composite materials functioning under the conditions of aerodynamic heating of aircraft, as well as under the conditions of the point effect of high-energy radiation are considered. The problem of deformation of a thin shallow shell under the action of a local temperature field is approximately solved. Such problems arise, for example, in the case of local destruction of heat-protective coatings of aircraft shells. Then the aerodynamic heating acts directly on the load-bearing shell of the structure. Its destruction inevitably leads to the death of the entire aircraft. A methodology has been developed for the numerical solution of the entire complex problem on the basis of economical absolutely stable numerical methods. Multiple results of numerical simulation of the thermal state of the locally heated shallow shell under conditions of its thermal destruction at high temperatures have been obtained.

Cold-formed steel (CFS) sections are thin-walled, therefore, more susceptible to different types of geometric imperfections. Global type of geometric imperfections has a significant impact on the load-carrying capacity of flexural members. This paper reports an experimental study that discusses the influence of global imperfections on the flexural response of CFS built-up I-beams composed of two lipped channels, with simply supported ends, under four-point loading. Global imperfections of magnitude over eight times the maximum permissible ones were induced in the specimens, leading to their distress. Using various simple stiffening schemes, the capacity and stiffness of the distressed specimens were improvised. The performance comparisons were made based on the maximum loads resisted, flexural stiffnesses offered, and failure modes experienced by the specimens. As experimental data on such distressed specimens are currently lacking in the literature, the test results of the present study will provide the necessary data needed by future researchers to numerically extend this study further, which will help in the development of necessary design guidelines for the same. The stiffening schemes significantly improved the structural efficiency of distressed specimens in terms of strength and stiffness, by over 60%. As a result, an effective and time-saving solution to such realistic structural engineering problems is given.

In this study, the seismic behavior of an all-steel buckling-restrained (AB) steel plate shear wall (SPSW) with incline slits under fire and cyclic loading was investigated. ABSPSW was composed of two thin steel infill plates with a narrow distance from each other, which were embedded with incline slits on each plate. These slits were in opposite directions to each other. The finite element (FE) numerical model was validated with three test specimens and after ensuring the modeling strategy, the parametric study was performed by considering variables such as wall plate thickness, slit width, strip width between two slits, and degree of temperature. A total of 256 FE numerical models were subjected to coupled temperature-displacement analysis. The results of the analysis showed that the high temperature reduced the seismic performance of the ABSPSW so that at 917℃, the load-bearing capacity was reduced by 92%. In addition, with the increase in the temperature, the yield point of the infill plate and frame occurred in a small displacement. The average decrease in shear strength at 458℃, 642℃, and 917℃ was 18%, 46%, and 92%, respectively, compared to the shear strength at 20℃. Also, with increasing the temperature to 917℃, ductility increased by an average of 75%
In this research, the degradation rate of physical properties of the Angouran pit bedrock (calc-schist) is first investigated under the specific numbers of freeze-thaw (F-T) cycles. Then, the durability of calc-schist specimens against the F-T cycle number (N) is examined considering the mechanical parameters, and using the decay function and half-time techniques. For this purpose, point load strength (IS(50)), second durability index (Id2), Brazilian tensile strength (BTS), and compressive (VP) and shear (VS) wave velocities of calc-schist specimens are measured after 0, 7, 15, 40, and 75 N. For comparing the degradation rate of mechanical properties of available rock types on the Angouran mine walls, these tests are also carried out on the limestone and amphibolite schist specimens beside the calc-schist. According to test results, the exponential regression models are developed between the mechanical parameters of rock specimen's and N variable. Also, the long-term durability of each rock type versus N is studied using the decay function and half-time techniques. Results indicated that the degradation rate differs for the above rock types in which amphibolite schist and calc-schist specimens have the highest and least resistance against the N, respectively. The obtained results from this study can play a key role in the optimal design of the mine's final walls.

In this study, the 4-point bending test has been performed in order to estimate the effect of TIG-dressing on fatigue strength and fatigue characteristics quantitatively for non load-carrying fillet welded joints subjected to pure bending. As a result of fatigue tests, fatigue strength of as-welded specimens has been satisfied the grade of fatigue strength prescribed in specifications of domestics and AASHTO & JSSC, and fatigue strength at $2{\times}106cycles$ of TIG-dressing specimens has been increased compared with as-welded specimens. As the result of beachmark tests, fatigue cracks have been occurred at several points, where the radius of curvature and flank angle in the weld bead toes are low, and grown as semi-elliptical cracks, then approached to fracture. As a result of finite element analysis, stress concentration factor in weld bead toes has been closely related to the flank angel and radius of curvature, and between these, the radius of curvature has more largely affected in stress concentration factor than flank angle. As a result of fracture mechanics approaches, the crack correction factor of test specimens has been largely affected on stress gradient correction factor in case a/t is below 0.4. From the relations between stress intensity factor range estimated from FEM analysis and fatigue crack growth rate, fatigue life has been correctly calculated.

The automotive seat is an important component that moves in sync with the driver and is actively being developed with various new functions. The aim of this work is to develop a lightweight seat cushion extension module using a lightweight material. To this end, a structural strength analysis, vertical strength test, and durability test were conducted. In the structural analysis, the maximum value of deformation under vertical load was 4.98 mm at the front of the upper panel. The maximum stress was approximately 105 MPa, which occurred at the point of contact between the upper and lower panels of the module. The vertical strength test showed a maximum vertical deformation of 5.31 mm under a vertical load, which differed from the analysis results by approximately 6.45%. The structural safety of the product was verified by the fact that it showed no harmful deformation or damage during operation after the vertical strength test and a durability test for 20,000 cycles. Furthermore, the use of engineering plastics made it possible to reduce the weight by approximately 30% compared to existing products. The lack of damage after tests verified the passenger safety, strength, and rigidity of the product. The results are expected to be applied for improving environmental and fuel efficiency regulations and preventing accidents due to driver fatigue. The applications of this module could be expanded various types of vehicles, as well as other industries in which eco-friendly and lightweight materials are used.
The objective of the present study is to examine the flexural behavior of two-span post-tensioned lightweight aggregate concrete (LWAC) beams using unbonded tendons and the reliability of the design provisions of ACI 318-14 for such beams. The parameters investigated were the effective prestress and loading type, including the symmetrical top one-point, two third-point, and analogous uniform loading systems. The unbonded prestressing three-wire strands were arranged with a harped profile of variable eccentricity. The total length of the beam, measured between both strand anchorages, was 11000 mm. The test results were compared with those compiled from simply supported LWAC one-way members, wherever possible. The ultimate load capacity of the present beam specimens was evaluated by the collapse mechanism of the plasticity theorem and the nominal section moment strength calculated following the provision of the ACI 318-14. The test results showed that the two-span post-tensioned LWAC beams had lower stress increase (Δfps) in the unbonded tendons than the simply supported LWAC beams with a similar reinforcement index. The effect of the loading type on Δfps and displacement ductility was less significant for two-span beams than for the comparable simply supported beams. The design equations for Δfps and Δfps proposed by ACI 318-14 and Harajli are conservative for the present two-span post-tensioned LWAC beams, although the safety decreases for the two-span beam, compared to the ratios between experiments and predictions obtained from simply supported beams.
In this study, Microstructure and tensile properties in arc brazed joints of 1000MPa grade DP steel using Cu-Si insert metal were investigated. The fusion zone was composed of Cu phase which solidified a little Fe and Si. The former phase formed due to dilute the edge of base material by arc, although Fe was not solid solution in Cu at the room temperature. Cu3Si particles formed by crystallization at $1100^{\circ}C$ during faster cooling. After the tensile shear test, there are no differences between the brazed joint efficiencies. The maximum joint efficient was about 37% compared to strength of base metal. It is better than that of arc brazed joint of DP steel using Cu-Sn filler metal. Fracture position of all brazing conditions was in the fusion zone. Crack initiation occurred at three junction point which was a stress singularity point of upper sheet, lower sheet and the fusion zone. And then crack propagated across the fusion zone. The reason why the fracture occurred at fusion zone was that the hardness of fusion zone was lower than that of base material and heat affected zone. The correlation among maximum load and hardness of fusion zone and EST at fractured position was $R^2=0.9338$. Therefore, this means that hardness and EST can have great impact on maximum load.

A structural test of the wind turbine rotor blade must be required to evaluate the uncertainty in design assessment due to use of material, design concepts, production processes and so on, and the possible impact on the structural integrity. In the full-scale static strength test, the measuring parameters are strain, displacements, loads, weight and the center of gravity. There are test equipments, measuring sensors, a test rig and fixtures to obtain measuring parameters. In order to simulate the aerodynamics load, the three-point loading method instead of the one-point loading method is applied. There is slightly some difference between the measured results and the predicted results with the reference fiber volume fraction of 60%. However, the agreement between the measured results and the predicted results with the actual fiber volume fraction of 52.5% is good. Even though a slightly non-linearity from 80% loading to 100% loading, a linear static solution is sufficient for the design purpose as the amount of the non-linearity is relatively small. Comparison between measured and predicted strain results at the maximum thickness positions of the blade profile for 0.236R(5.56m), 0.493R(11.59m) and 0.574R(13.43m), under 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% loadings for the upper part of the blade. The predicted values are in good agreement with the measured values.
The one way fluid structure interaction analysis on advanced propeller blade for next generation turboprop aircraft. HS1 airfoil series are selected as a advanced propeller blade airfoil. Adkins method is used for aerodynamic design and performance analysis with respect to the design point. Adkins method is based on the vortex-blade element theory which design the propeller to satisfy the condition for minimum energy loss. propeller geometry is generated by varying chord length and pitch angle at design point. Blade sweep is designed based on the design mach number and target propulsion efficiency. The aerodynamic characteristics of the designed Advanced propeller were verified by CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamic) and showed the enhanced performance than the conventional propeller. The skin-foam sandwich structural type is adopted for blade. The high stiffness, strength carbon/epoxy composite material is used for the skin and PMI(Polymethacrylimide) is used for the foam. Aerodynamic load is calculated by computational fluid dynamics. Linear static stress analysis is performed by finite element analysis code MSC.NASTRAN in order to investigate the structural safety. The result of structural analysis showed that the design has sufficient structural safety. It was concluded that structural safety assessment should incorporate the off-design points.
