  • An optical microphone was developed using a dual-core multi-mode fiber block and a membrane type micromirror. The fiber block serves as a compact optical head, and the micromirror as a reflective diaphragm. The micromirror is designed to be suspended through a silicon bar connected t a frame, allowing for displacement induced by acoustic waves. The optical head is implemented by integrating two multi-mode fibers in a single block, and used to transfer light signals between it and the diaphragm. For the assembled microphone, its static characteristics were observed to reveal the operating point defined as the optimum distance between the optical head and the diaphragm. And its dynamic response was tested to exhibit a frequency bandwidth of 3 kHz with the variation of $\sim5dB$.

  • An experimental study was conducted for the effectiveness of steel-CFRP composite (CFRP laminates sandwiched between two steel strips) as stirrups in concrete beam to carry shearing force and comparison was made with conventional steel bar stirrups. A total numbers of 8 concrete beams were tested under four point loads. Each beam measured 1,600 mm long, 160 mm width and 240 mm depth. The beams were composed of same grade of concrete, with same amount of flexural steel but different shear reinforcements. The main variables include, type of stirrups (shape of stirrups and number of CFRP layers used in each stirrup) and number of stirrups used in shear spans. After getting on an excellent closeness between the values of ultimate shear resistance and ultimate tensile load of steel-CFRP stirrups, it could be concluded that the steel-CFRP stirrups represent the effective solution of premature failure of FRP stirrups at the bends.

  • Thin Film yttrium, 500 nm thick, was prepared by electron beam evaportion on sapphire substrate. Film was hydrogenated at room temperature upto 1 bar hydorgen pressure without any activation process. Electrical resistivity was measured by four-point DC method in the temperature range between room temperature and 30 K for various hydorgen concentration x = 0 to 2.924 of $YH_x$ sample. Temperature dependent resistance of $YH_{2\;924}$ shows low temperature minmum at 105K ($36{\mu}{\Omega}cm$ deep), the metal-semiconductor transition at 260K, and a hysteresis, which are similar behavior to bulk $YH_x$(x>2) experimental results.

  • A container terminal gate is not only an entrance of containers, but also the first input point of containers' information. Therefore, to achieve the accuracy of container information, there are various containers' numbers recognition methods used. Gate productivity can significantly vary depending upon those recognition methods. Recently, RFID which is one of the u-IT businesses run by the Korean government is under consideration for application to the gate as an automatic system. If RFID is used, it is expected to have both the qualitative benefits through avoiding defects of other systems and the quantitative benefits by improving productivity. Hence, this study aims to provide some insight on the benefits of RFID, and to compare productivity of the existing gate system with the RFID gate system based on computer simulation.

  • In this study, a robot is implemented in H/W based on four-bar linkage mechanism and Jansen mechanism. Our goal is to finish the given path using given terms. The various programs was used to understand the mechanism in more detail. DISON m.Sketch, EDISON Designer, Theo Jansen Mechanism Optimization Solver. Using these programs, we can design the robot in more dtails and reduce errors and trials. For the design and implementation of a robot, it is need to get joint variable, a foot point, and their relation. Thus, the proposed kinematic analysis is very important process for the design and implementation of legged robots.

  • We propose a criterion which predicts wrinkle initiation on workpiece in groove rolling process based on finite element analysis. Fundamental idea introduced in the criterion is to examine the difference between flat rolling which don't' cause wrinkling at all and groove rolling which usually accompanies it. The proposed criterion assumes that irregular distribution of shear strain on workpiece during groove rolling is attributable to the initiation of wrinkling. The proposed criterion has been applied to roughing train in the rod and bar mill of SEAH BESTEEL Inc. A new design for 2nd pass (square roll groove) was suggested, machined and applied. Results reveal that the proposed criterion in this study could point out the location of wrinkle initiation during groove rolling and could reduce onset of wrinkle on final products.

  • We present for one-dimensional model for elastoplastic bar with combined hardening in FPZ - fracture process zone and softening with embedded strong discontinuities. The simplified version of the model without FPZ is directly compared and validated against analytical solution of Bazant and Belytschko (1985). It is shown that deformation localizes in an area which is governed by the chosen element size and therefore causes mesh sensitivity and that the length of the strain-softening region tends to localize into a point, which also agrees with results obtained by stability analysis for static case. Strain increases in the softening domain with a simultaneous decrease of stress. The problem unloads elastically outside the strain-softening region. The more general case with FPZ leads to more interesting results that also account for induced strain heterogeneities.

  • Arago's disk system consists of a speed controller of the DC motor (inner loop controller) and a position controller of the magnetic bar angle (main controller), which are implemented by the design of the PI and PID controller, respectively. First, we analyzed the nonlinear characteristics of the Arago disk system and found the operating point range of three locations as a result. In this paper, a gain scheduler method was applied to guarantee a constant control performance in the range of $0{\sim}130^{\circ}C$, and a structure to change the controller according to the control reference value based on the previously obtained operating points was experimentally implemented. The Distributed Control Systems (DCS) configuration using the Controller Area Network (CAN) was used to verify the proposed method by improving the operational efficiency of the entire experimental system. So, simplicity of the circuit and easy diagnosis were achieved through a single CAN bus communication.

  • In this study, to improve the ride and handling characteristics of the vehicle whose hard points have been already fixed, a tuning method of load spring, damper and stabilizer bar is described. For the suspension system of vehicle, optimized design is necessary to satisfy the incompatible two dynamic characteristics which are the ride isolation property between unsprung mass and sprung mass to reduce the excitation from the road and the accurate correring response property to specific steering inputs. To accomplish above aims, we may approach by experimental method, but it requires to sacrifice much time and cost. This paper, therefore, provides a process of suspension development to improve the ride and handling properties by using computer simulation with saving time and cost, and as results, comparaes the dynamic characteristics of the tuned vehicle with the base vehicle not tuned.
