Development of Red Pepper Calyx-plucking System(II) (고추의 꼭지제거 시스템 개발(II) - 시작품의 제작 및 성능평가 -)

  • A prototype calyx-plucking system was designed on the basis of a calyx-plucking method which had been developed in the previous study. This system was composed of a pair of compressive rollers and three pairs of tensile rollers. The performance test for this system revealed that two significant factors of operating conditions were the moisture content of red pepper and the relative velocity between tensile rollers. The newly developed system can be utilized as an efficient calyx-plucking unit in the processing plant for powdering red pepper.

  • With the purpose of labour reduction in tea plucking operation with portable type machine, the influence of frame angles and tea leaves weight on the grasping forces of each finger were investigated. At the measurement of the grasping force of each finger except for thumb, grip strength dynamometers were attached at the grasping position of the frame instead of handle grips. A series of measurement was carried out changing frame angles of the tea plucking machine and the weight of tea leaves. With the obtained results of the experiments , the influences of the frame angles and the weight of the tea leaves on the grasping forces of each finger were analyzed. Some reasonable suggestions for the labour reduction in the tea plucking operation with portable type machine were obtained in the aspect of normalizing the balance of the grasping force on each finger and these suggestions are expected to contribute the labour reduction of the tea plucking operation.

NMR Metabolomic Profiles for Quality Control of Korean Green Tea (Camellia sinensis) Classified by the Plucking Season

  • The plucking season of green tea leaves is one of the important parameters that decide their metabolic diversity, quality, and prices. The effects of plucking sghlwleasons on green tea metabolites were investigated through metabolite profiling by $^1H$ NMR spectroscopy. The orthogonal projection on latent structure-discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) showed clear discriminations of green teas by three different grades depending on plucking seasons: Ujeon, Sejak, and Jungjak. These results suggested that the nine peak groups could be used for diagnostics for identification of high quality Ujeon grade of green tea.

  • A " plucking rolls device" was developed in this study to improve the quality of harvested tea leaves. In this report, the outline of the system and the results of performance experiments in our laboratory are discussed. Tow kinds of performance experiments were carried out. The first experiment checked harvesting accuracy by using a plucking unit that was developed for harvesting machine installation. The second experiment was a harvesting experiment which utilized a fron bar in order to prevent cutting of the tea buds which had been a problem in precious experiments . As a results of the first experiments , it was confirmed that selective harvesting obtained high quality tea leaves. but a cutting problem that, when the harvesting seed was faster than the working speed, which was non-selective harvesting , was also seen. In the second experiment, the cutting rate decreased to a maximum of 50% level, when tea buds most bent ahead by the front bar. The effect was seen that cutt ng problem was alleviated from this.

The Aroma Components of Green Tea, the Products of Mt. Chiri Garden (지리산 녹차의 향기성분)

  • The aroma components of Korean green tea in the south western part of Mt. Chiri prepared by the traditional method from native variety were analyzed using GC and GC-MS. The patterns on GC chromatograms of the three samples from the flushes plucked in early spring were similar, though they are prepared by different producers in the area of Hadong-kun, Kyung sang nam-do. A total of 51 aroma compounds were identified in all samples. Main component in the aroma compounds of these teas were geraniol, benzyl alcohol, 2-phenylethanol, $\beta$-ionone, benzyl cyanide and linalool oxides. The aroma components of green teas manufactured by the different plucking periods were also compared. The amounts of geraniol, typical rose floral aroma were particularly decreased in the final plucking period. The amounts of pyrazines and furfuryl alcohol, typical roasted aroma and nutty aroma were slightly increased in later plucking period.

Catechin Content and Composition of Domestic Tea Leaves at Different Plucking Time (국내산 다엽의 채취시기별 카테킨의 함량 및 조성)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the content and composition of tea catechins at different plucking time and different position of tea leaves. The bud and first leaf, second leaf, third leaf, and fourth leaf were collected on May, July, and August. The catechin content was highest in leaves picked on August among those collected from different months. When compared with the different part of tea leaves, the bud and the first tea leaf contained the highest catechin, and the fourth left contained the lowest catechin. Analysis of catechin composition in the tea leaves, showed that epigallocatechin gallate was the highest, and the other contents were following order: epicatechin gallate, epicatechin, epigallocatechin.

  • Red pepper is composed of pericarp and calyx. Calyx must be removed for the producton of high quality powdered red pepper. However, an apparatus to effectively remove calyx is not available. This study was performed to develop a method to remove calyx. According to the result of this study, the following method was found out to be very effective. Step 1 : Red pepper must be compressed by a compressing apparatus such as roller system. Step 2 : Calyx in red pepper must be plucked out when red pepper passes through roller system with relative velocity.

Pathological observations of guinea pigs experimentally infected with Trichophyton verrucosum var album (Trichophyton verrucosum var album 의 실험적(實驗的) 감염(感染) 기니픽에 대한 병리학적(病理學的) 관찰(觀察))

  • Guinea pigs were cutaneously inoculated with Trichophyton verrucosum var album, that is a common causative fungus of dermatophytosis in cattle. The developmental process of lesions, clinical and histopathological changes and reisolations of the fungi were studied to evaluate the pathogenicity of Trichophyton verrucosum var album in guinea pigs. Results obtained through the experiments were summarized as follows : 1. The incidence of infection of the clipping group was 13(86%) of 15 animals, and that of the plucking group was 14(93%) of 15 animals. In both of the clipping and plucking groups, visible cutaneoas lesions were developed between 4 and 7 days post inoculation(p.i.). The spreading and the climax stages persisted for 4 to 11 and 6 to 12 days, respectively. 2. In macroscopic observations, formation of various degree of erythemas and scales over the inoculated skin sites were observed in the spreading stage. In the climax stage, exudative changes and dark red crusts were formed as typical circular lesions. In the healing stage, the lesions revealed shedding of crust, alopecia and hair regrowth. 3. In histopathological observations, infiltration of inflammatory cells, hyperplasia, microabscesses and keratinous-hyaloid materials of epidermis were observed in the spreading stage. Hyphal invasion was primarily observed at the level of epidermis and pilosebaceous ducts. In the climax stage, the infected epidermis was thick with severe hyperplasia, hyperkeratosis and acanthosis. The microabscesses with fungal hyphae, folliculitis and hyperplasia of external root sheath were observed in the dermis. The fungal hyphae were observed only in the tissues of hair follicles, that were internal root sheath, cuticle, the keratinized portions of cortex and medulla 4. In reisolation of the inoculated fungus, all trials for ten animals showed positive cultures until 25 days p.i.. Afterward, the reisolation rates were gradually decreased, showing all negative after 40 days p.i..

A review and new view on the study on minor erosional forms in bedrock channels in Korea (한국의 기반암 하상 침식 지형 연구)

  • Minor erosional forms in the bedrock river, like potholes, are not just research subject for the professional geomorphologis. In addition, these features attract general public and make them understand the social contribution and importance of geomorphologic research activities. In this paper, the studies on bedrock minor forms in Korea was reviewed. For further researches, some of major erosional processes and minor forms in bedrock rivers were discussed in detail. Cavitation, plucking, hydro-wedging, and abrasion by passing sediment particles are the major processes to create the longitudinal or transverse minor forms like pothole, furrows, flutes, and runnels. Especially the definition of furrows and runnels are explained to prevent the confusion with pothole, weathering pits and grooves. To make a progress in research on bedrock minor forms the quantitative relationship between the variables should be studied. New techniques for scientific estimation of erosion rates and exposure ages of bedrock surfaces should be used in this field.
