A field study was conducted to determine the runoff loss of N and P in small scale of red pepper field plots (10% slope), consisting of three different plots with black polyethylene vinyl mulching (mulching), ridge without mulching (ridge), and flat without ridge and mulching (flat). Composted manure and urea as a basal application were applied at rates of $20MT\;ha^{-1}$ and $93kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$, respectively. Urea at $189kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$ and fused phosphate at $67kg\;P_2O_5\;ha^{-1}$ were additionally applied on June 25 with different fertilization methods, broadcast application in flat plot and hole injection in ridge and mulching plots. Plant uptake of N and P was positively correlated with their respective concentrations in surface soil: mulching > ridge > flat plots. The runoff loss by soil erosion was higher in flat plot than ridge and mulching plot with contour line. Nitrate loss by the runoff water had no significant differences among three surface management practices, but the higher average value in ridge and mulching plots than flat plot. Especially, the flat plot had no phosphate loss during summer season. This is probably due to low labile P content in surface soil of flat plot. In the summation of soil and water loss, flat plot was higher in N and P loss than ridge and mulching plot with contour line. Nevertheless, the nitrate and phosphate loss by runoff water could be more important for non-point source management because the water could meet the river easier than eroded soil because of re-deposition around slope land.
Tree height at age 10 was used to estimate the statistical efficiencies of sampling size in the progeny test of Pinus koraiensis S. et Z. Experimental design was RCB design which consists of 25 half-sib families in each of three blocks. The number of families and blocks were fixed, therefore, the number of trees sampled per plot was the only factor that influences the environmental portion of the family mean height. Coefficient of variation, the estimate of the standard error of the family mean height, decreased with increase of sampling plot size, and became stable from 4-tree plot sampling (6.97%). The experimental error was significant from 7-tree sampling plot size. Nonlinear relationship (${\hat{Y}}=10.425e-^{0.073x}$ ; $R^2$=0.840) was found between the sampling plot size and the standard error of family mean height.
This research was focused on the effect of rice straw and rice straw mat on the reduction of upland field non-point source (NPS) pollution discharges. Six experimental plots of $5{\times}22m$ in size and 3% in slope prepared on gravelly sandy loam soil were treated with control, rice straw cover and rice straw mat cover. Radish in Spring growing seasons were cultivated. NPS pollution discharge was monitored and compared with respect to the treatments. The surface cover rate of rice straw and rice straw mat right after the treatments was 64.7% and 73.7%, respectively. Rainfall of the 16 monitored events ranged from 12.8 mm to 538.2 mm. Runoff coefficient of the events was 0.01~0.67 in control plot, 0~0.63 in rice straw plot and 0~0.45 in rice straw mat plot. The reduction of runoff compared to the control plot was 5.4~99.7% in rice straw plot and 32.9~100% in rice straw mat plot. The reduction of NPS pollution load was 52.0% for SS, 28.5% for T-N and 35.2% for T-P in rice straw plot and 79.8% for SS, 68.3% for T-N and 53.3% for T-P in rice straw mat plot. This research revealed that rice straw mat cover on the soil surface could not only increase the crop yield and farmer's income but also reduce the NPS pollution loads significantly.

This experiment was conducted to investigate the soil nitrogen credit of biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) and the nitrogen balance of soybean in soybean-barley cropping systems. Soybean cultivar, Shinpaldalkong2 and barley cultivar, Olbori, were used in soybean mono-cropping (SM), barley monocropping (BM), and barleysoybean double cropping system. The barley-soybean double cropping system was treated with two different levels of nitrogen fertilizers, 0 nitrogen fertilizer (BS-F0), and standard nitrogen fertilizer (BS-F1). Nitrogen and organic matter concentrations in soil of BS-F1 plot on October, 2001 were increased $4.8\%\;and\;5.9\%$, respectively, compared with those on October, 2000. The ranges of BNF rate in soybean were $69.1\~ 88.2\%$ in two years, and the rate was the highest in BS-F0 plot and the lowest in SM plot. The ranges of nitrogen harvest index (NHI) in all treatments were $83.9\~86.7\%$. The yield was 270 kg/10a in BSF1 plot and 215 kg/10a in BS-F0 plot. However, the nitrogen balances were +0.6 kg/10a of gain of soil nitrogen in BS-F0 plot and -0.4 kg/10a of loss of soil nitrogen in BS-F1 plot. In comparisons of SM and BS-F1 plots, although the seed yields were similar in two plots, the loss of soil nitrogen was higher in SM than BS-F1 plot. Overall, our results suggest that barley-soybean double cropping system was more effective in respect to seed productivity and soil nitrogen conservation than soybean monocropping system, and the N credit to following crops by soybean cultivation was identified in soybean double cropping system.
Second-order rate constants (kN) have been determined spectrophotometrically for reactions of Y-substituted phenyl 2-furoates (1a-h) with piperidine and morpholine in 80 mol % H2O/20 mol % DMSO at 25.0 ± 0.1 oC. The Brønsted-type plot exhibits a downward curvature for the reactions with strongly basic piperidine but is linear for the reactions with weakly basic morpholine. The slope of the curved Brønsted-type plot changes from -1.25 to ?0.28 as the pKa of the conjugate acid of the leaving aryloxides decreases. The pKa at the center of the Brønsted curvature, defined as pKa°, was determined to be 6.4. The aminolysis of 1a-h has been concluded to proceed through a stepwise mechanism on the basis of the curved Brønsted-type plot. The reactions of Ysubstituted phenyl cinnamates (2a-g) with piperidine resulted in a curved Brønsted-type plot with a pKa° values of 6.4. However, the curved Brønsted-type plot has been suggested to be not due to a change in the RDS but due to a normal Hammond effect of a concerted mechanism, since the Brønsted-type plot for the corresponding reactions with morpholine results in also a curved Brønsted-type plot with a pKa° values of 6.1. The furoates with a basic leaving group (i.e., 1b-g) are less reactive than the corresponding cinnamates (i.e., 2b-g). The k2/ k-1 ratios for the reactions of 1b-h are much smaller than unity, which has been suggested to be responsible for their low reactivity.

A kinetic study on aminolysis of 2-chloro-4-nitrophenyl X-substituted-benzoates (2a-k) in 80 mol % $H_2O/_20mol%$ DMSO at $25.0^{\circ}C$ is reported. The Br${\emptyset}$nsted-type plot for the reactions of 2-chloro-4-nitrophenyl benzoate (2g) with a series of cyclic secondary amines curves downward (e.g., ${\beta}_1=0.25$, ${\beta}_2=0.85$ and $pK_a^o=10.3$), which is typical of reactions reported to proceed through a stepwise mechanism with a change in ratedetermining step (RDS). The Hammett plot for the reactions of 2a-k with piperidine consists of two intersecting straight lines, while the corresponding Yukawa-Tsuno plot exhibits an excellent linear correlation with ${\rho}_X=1.15$ and r = 0.59. Thus, it has been concluded that the nonlinear Hammett plot is not due to a change in RDS but is caused by stabilization of substrates through resonance interactions between the electron-donating substituent and the C=O bond. Substrates possessing a substituent at the 2-position of the leaving aryloxide deviate negatively from the curved Br${\emptyset}$nsted-type plot for the reactions of Y-substituted-phenyl benzoates (3a-i), implying that the steric hindrance exerted by the substituent at the 2-position is an important factor which governs the reactivity of Y-substituted-phenyl benzoates.

Runoff, sediments and nutrient losses were studied under different patterns of paddy field management: (1) fall and spring plowing (Plowing)i (2) fall plowing for half of plot and spring plowing (Semi-plowing); (3) no-till for fall and spring plowing (Un-plowing) during the non-cropping period in the southern Korea for two years. The runoff amount and initial abstract were significantly affected by plowing practices. Un-plowing plot showed the highest runoff amount among treatments. The concentrations of sediment from Plowing plot were much higher than those from Un-plowing plot, especially after (all plowing. Sediment losses from Plowing plot were 25% more than those from Un-plowing plot. There was significant difference in nutrient losses via runoff water and sediment according to plowing practice. Two-year average of losses of N from paddy field during non-cropping period were 9.42 kg ha$\^$-1/, 8.17kg ha$\^$-1/, and 7.76 kg ha$\^$-l/ for Un-plowing, Semi-plowing, and Plowing plot, respectively, while losses of P were 0.64 kg ha$\^$-1/, 0.58 kg ha$\^$-1/, and 0.58 kg ha$\^$-1/ for each tillage system. Losses of total-N, ammonia-N, nitrate-N, Total-P from Un-plowing plot was larger than those from Plowing and Semi-plowing plots during study period.
A kinetic study on aminolysis of 4-chloro-2-nitrophenyl X-substituted-benzoates (6a-i) in MeCN is reported. The Hammett plot for the reactions of 6a-i with piperidine consists of two intersecting straight lines, while the Yukawa-Tsuno plot exhibits an excellent linear correlation with ${\rho}_X$ = 1.03 and r = 0.78. The nonlinear Hammett plot is not due to a change in rate-determining step (RDS) but is caused by the resonance stabilization of substrates possessing an electron-donating group in the benzoyl moiety. The Br${\phi}$nsted-type plot for the reactions of 4-chloro-2-nitrophenyl benzoate (6e) with a series of cyclic secondary amines is linear with ${\beta}_{nuc}$ = 0.69, an upper limit for reactions reported to proceed through a concerted mechanism. The aminolysis of 6e in aqueous medium has previously been reported to proceed through a stepwise mechanism with a change in RDS on the basis of a curved Br${\phi}$nsted-type plot. It has been concluded that instability of the zwitterionic tetrahedral intermediate ($T^{\pm}$) in MeCN forces the reaction to proceed through a concerted mechanism. This is further supported by the kinetic result that the amines used in this study are less reactive in MeCN than in $H_2O$, although they are more basic in MeCN over 7 $pK_a$ units.
An experiment was made in order to analyze the growth characteristics and productivity of Zoysia japonica under control, mowing and TIBA treatment conditions at the experimental farm of Kyung Hee University. The field was planned by the split plot design method and each treatment was given to two plots (40$\times$40 and 100$\times$100 mm) and was replicated three times. Each plot was 9$m^2$ for Zoysia japonica. The sampling of each plot was taken once a week after sowing. In order to know the dry matter of total standing crops, each organ of plants was kept at 9$0^{\circ}C$ and weighed. Total leaf area of a plant was measured by drawing method. The author adopted the growth analysis of English School. Holocellulose analysis by sodium chlorite method was made. The increasing rate of LAI was high in all plots between 10th and 12th week after sowing and high growth rate of assimilatory organ was observed in low density area of TIBA plot. Between 10th and 12th week after sowing all the experimental plots showed high increasing rate of standing crop and in the process of growth each density area of TIBA plot recorded high increasing rate. In all the plots F/C ratio and RGR were high when the growth rate of assimilatory organ was increasing cosiderably, and the higher the planting density was, the higher F/C ratio was recorded. In all the plots NAR recorded maximum rate before the growth period to show a high increase of RGR. In the process of the growth TIBA plot showed high icnreasing rate of NAR. CGR showed high value in high density areas of all the plots and reached its maximum in the 13th week after sowing. Compared to the other experimental areas the low planting density areas of control plot and TIBA plot showed considerable earlier lignification indicating low Holocellulose content in the growth process.
Second-order rate constants ($k_N$) have been measured spectrophotometrically for the nucleophilic displacement reactions of 4-nitrophenyl X-substituted-cinnamates (4a-4e) and Y-substituted-phenyl cinnamates (5a-5e) with Z-substituted-phenoxide anions in 80 mol % $H_2O$/20 mol % DMSO at $25.0{\pm}0.1^{\circ}C$. The Hammett plot for the reactions of 4a-4e with 4-chlorophenoxide (4-$ClPhO^-$) consists of two intersecting straight lines, which might be taken as a change in the rate-determining step (RDS). However, it has been concluded that the nonlinear Hammett plot is not due to a change in the RDS but is caused by stabilization of the ground state of substrates possessing an electron-withdrawing group in the cinnamoyl moiety through resonance interactions, since the Yukawa-Tsuno plot exhibits an excellent linear correlation with ${\rho}X=0.89$ and r = 0.58. The Br${\o}$nsted-type plot for the reactions of 4-nitrophenyl cinnamate (4c) with Z-substituted-phenoxides is linear with ${\beta}_{nuc}=0.76$. The Br${\o}$nsted-type plot for the reactions of Y-substituted-phenyl cinnamates (5a-5d) with 4-chlorophenoxides (4-$ClPhO^-$) is also linear with ${\beta}_{lg}=-0.72$. The Hammett plot correlated with ${\sigma}^-$ constants for the reactions of 5a-5d results in a much better linear correlation than that correlated with ${\sigma}^o$ constants, indicating that a partial negative charge develops on the O atom of the leaving aryloxide. Thus, the reactions have been concluded to proceed through a concerted mechanism.
