CFRD(Concrete Faced Rockfill Dam) face slab concrete has a much capability to occur crack due to drying shrinkage, plastic shrinkage and bad compaction etc. Because of these cracks of concrete induce structural problem and decrease durability of dam, it is need to reduce crack of face slab concrete. This is an experimental study to analyze the influence factors on crack properties of CFRD face slab concrete. For this purpose, various mix proportion of CFRD face slab concrete and concrete using PPF(polypropylene fiber0 and fly ash was selected. And tests for drying shrinkage, bonding strength, water permeability and plastic shrinkage were performed, and then CFRD D and PPC of those mix proportion were placed in CFRD field. According to test results, it was found that the bonding strength of C1(compact sufficiently) was higher about 10~20% than that of C2(compact insufficiently). And the engineering properties of PPC(concrete using PPF) and FAC(concrete using fly ash) were better than those of the others ; the permeability of PPC and FAC after 8 weeks curing was little lower than that of CFRD D, and plastic shrinkage crack of PPC and FAC was lower 40~60% than crack of CFRD D.

In this research, the performance of surface covering technique using a white-colored bubble sheet on reducing the cracking due to the plastic, and drying shrinkages for high rise building construction were evaluated by comparing the exposed surface without any surface treatment. From the results of the experiment conducted during fall season, desired results of decreased numbers, length, maximum width, and area of cracking were obtained without a significant difference on heat of hydration and cumulative temperature. Therefore, it is considered that the surface covering technique using bubble sheet is an appropriate method for preventing plastic and drying shrinkage cracking at fall season concrete construction.
The advantages of polypropylene fibers in concrete have been widely advertised abroad. However, the behavior of concrete containing plastic fibers has not been fully understood. In order to study the effect of fibers on possible crack control, the effects of fikrs on workability and drying shrinkage have been studied. 'The workability change due to the addition of fibers has been studied. and full size concrete slabs have been cast at field to investigate the effect of fibers on the shrinkage properties. Moisture absorption characteristics of fibers has also been studied. The addition of fibers was found to reduce workability significantly and required additional water to maintain the workability, which caused increased drying shrinkage depending on the amount of addition, but strength has not been changed significantly.

Concrete guide rail and median barrier are an attached RC member, however they are vulnerable to cracking due to slip form construction and large surface of member. In this study, causes and pattern of cracking are analyzed through assessment and NDT (Non-Destructive Technique) evaluation for concrete guide rail and median barrier on highway structure. For this work, analysis on drying shrinkage and hydration heat are performed considering installation period, and plastic shrinkage is also analyzed considering their environmental conditions. From the evaluation, plastic settlement around steel location, drying/ plastic shrinkage, and aggregate segregation are inferred to be the main causes of cracking in the structures. The crack causes and patterns are schematized and techniques of crack-control are suggested. Furthermore concrete guide rail/ median barrier in the bridge on the sea are vulnerable to cracking at early age so that special attentions should be paid at the stages of material selection and construction.

The objective of this study was to investigate the characteristics of the evaporation rate, the plastic shrinkage and the compressive strength of concrete exposed to a rapid evaporation environment immediately after casting. Drying of concrete were conducted under a controlled chamber in which the temperature was mainfoimed at 30 ${\pm}$1$^{\circ}C$, the relative humidity 22 ${\pm}$1 percent, and the wind velocity 7 ${\pm}$1 m/sec. The compressive strength of concrete was tested after 28 days of standard curing. The results obtained are as follows: 1. The evaporation rate was the highest at the very beginning, was decreased as the drying progresses, and was kept almost constant after 6 hours. 2. The shrinkage of concrete was changed in three different rates for the concrete mixture having its slump vallue between 3.0cm and 7.5cm. 3. The plastic shrinkage was ended within 5 or 6 hours after casting, regardless of the water cement ratio. 4. The shrinkage was increased within the limit of slump values between 3.0cm and 7.5cm as the water-cement ratio was increased. 5. The evaporation was kept on even after the plastic shrinkage was ended. 6. Within the limit of good workability (slump value between 4.5cm and 7.5cm), the compressive strength of concrete was increased when the shrinkage rate was slow but it was decreased when the rate was rapid 7. From the result of this study it is recommended that (1) the water-cement ratio should be less as long as the workability of concrete is allowable; (2) the evaporation should be prevented at least for 4 hours after casting concrete.

Superabsorbent polymers(SAPs) are powdery material that absorb water several tens or hundreds of times its own mass. It has been reported that when SAPs are incorporated into a high strength cementitious material, the autogenous shrinkage of the material is reduced. Cross-linked sodium polyacrylate type SAPs are relatively safe for human body and low in production cost. In order to apply this type of SAPs to the admixture for total(plastic+autogenous+drying) shrinkage reduction of high strength mortar, the shrinkage behavior of mortar when an expansion agent(EA) and SAPs were mixed together was analyzed. As a result, it was found that the shrinkage was reduced when an EA 5% (mass % of cement) and SAPs 0.4% were mixed together than the mortar containing only an EA 10%. The shrinkage was further reduced when EA 10% and SAPs 0.4% were incorporated into mortar.

Recently, structures such as large retailers, outlets and warehouses have been increasing in accordance with changes in consumption patterns. Since these structures include ultra-flat slab members, they are thoroughly managed to control slab cracking by the plastic and drying shrinkage. In order to control the cracking of the slab member, a chemical crack reduction method is used. In particular, the use of the shrinkage reducing agent has been examined. However, domestic research results are limited. In this study, the shrinkage properties of concrete using shrinkage reducing agent and the drying shrinkage properties according to the mixing factors were investigated. The performance of domestic shrinkage reducing agent was appeared similar to that of overseas high-grade shrinkage reducing agent. As the shrinkage reducing agent usage increased, the drying shrinkage reduction effect increased. At the age of 100 days, the dry shrinkage rate of specimen with the shrinkage reducing agent of 1.5%was shown about half that of the specimen without the shrinkage reducing agent. The shrinkage reducing agent was gound to have no specific performance change for the use of the admixture.

In Concrete, shrinkages occur like plastic shrinkage and drying shrinkage in the early age because of evaporation and transfer of moisture. Within the country, the crack test standardized by KS is used to test the drying shrinkage of the concrete by using the restricted drying shrinkage of Dumbbell type mold, but this test is for the cracking-point and the restricted shrinkage stress. Thus it is difficult to valuate the crack quantitative test. In this study, it is intended to develop the Flat-ring type restrained test method for the shrinkage deformation movement of the concrete and to provide the quantitative data for evaluating the cracks in concrete. And it suggest the proper specimen diameter and quantitative test method about shrinkage crack properties on Flat-ring type restrained test method. And Verified the suitability.

In this paper, an analytical method which can predict the occurrence of plastic shrinkage cracking on concrete slabs with sequential placement is proposed on the basis of the numerical model introduced in the previous study. The influence of many design variables on plastic shrinkage cracking such as the number of layers and the time interval between layers is quantitatively analyzed through parametric studies using the analytical method. In advance, two equations are introduced to take into account the effect of sequential placement on the plastic shrinkage cracking of concrete slab; The first one is to calculate the time at which the surface of concrete slab begins to dry, and the second one is to determine the critical time interval to prevent the surface drying of previously placed concrete layers. The timing of curing and the sequence of concrete placement, which are important for the prevention of plastic shrinkage cracking, can be effectively planned using the introduced both equations without any rigorous analysis.

Concrete is the most significant material in the construction industry which is required to construct several facilities like roads, buildings, and bridges etc. which leads to the economic development of a country. But now days, in view of sustainable development and environmental problems, plastic waste management is one of the major environmental issues due to its non-biodegradable nature which allows it to stay in the landfills until they are cleaned up. To overcome all these concerns, plastic waste may be used as a substitute of natural fine and coarse aggregate in concrete and a valuable solution to utilize the plastic items which causes several problems. In order to, present study is focused on the affecting properties of concrete as workability, compressive strength, and tensile strength of concrete with using plastic waste and without using plastic waste. Based on the detailed literature, it was observed that the plastic waste is not affecting the quality and consistency of concrete. However, as the number of PVC particles in the mixture increased, the drying shrinkage values decreased and the inclusion of plastic flakes can mitigate drying shrinkage cracking which leads the higher durability of concrete. Based on the comprehensive literature, it was also observed that the plastic aggregate found to be suitable for low and medium strength concrete. However, the investigation on the application of plastic aggregate in the high strength concrete is found limited. It was concluded that the optimum percentage of the plastic aggregate was found about 20%.
