  • Leaves are an important organism for photosynthesis and transpiration. The shape of leaf is crucial factor affecting plant architecture. V-shape leaf rolling is enhancing canopy photosynthesis by increasing the CO2 penetration and the light capture by reducing the shadow between the leaves. Therefore, moderate leaf rolling is thought to more high grain yield per area than flat leaf. We investigated 278 KRICE CORE accession's Adaxial Leaf Rolling Index (LRI) in first heading using the following equation. For each accession, genomic DNA was used for sequencing. We sequenced the genomics with ~8 X coverage to detect SNPS. Raw reads were aligned against the rice reference (IRGSP 1.0) for SNP identification and genotype calling. To generate genotype data for GWAS, SNPs were filtered with minor allele frequency 0.05. Finally, 841,134 high-quality SNPs were used for our GWAS. The significant threshold was -log10(P) >7.23. From the results, 2 significance SNP were detected. Considering the LD block of 250kbp, 60 candidate gene were selected including Hypothetical gene and Conserved gene. In this poster, we analyzed candidate gene affecting adaxial Leaf Rolling through single-trait GWAS.

  • Most of the plant models based on L-system or particle systems have focused on visual shape of plant. However, the interaction between the plant and its environment in virtual environment will make the plant more natural in diverse situations so that users will be immersed in system. To this end we structure the plant object organized in an ontology, introduce calculating method of plant growth rate based on juvenile energy.

  • Bast fibers were applied for various usages from fabrics to household care products long time ago. In this study, we investigated the physical characteristrus of water retted & chemically rotted fibers of Yucca, New Zealand hemp, Corn, Kuzu vine, Indian mallow, and Mulberry paper that have been harvested by domestic cultivation. Water retting is more effective than chemical rotting for six kinds of plant fibers. When all fibers were rotted chemically with 1% sodium hydroxide, only Kuzu vine and Indian mallow were retted. Indian mallow, Yucca, New Zealand hemp, and Com fibers have higher tensile strength than any other fibers. The crystallinity of Kuzu vine, Indian mallow, Yucca, New Zealand hemp, and Corn was as low as 60% but Yucca, New Zealand hemp were flexible. Yucca had fewer lumina whereas New Zealand hemp more lumina in cross sectional shape. Especially com fibers have a structure like sponge, and Indian mallow had a net shape. The longitudinal section of New Zealand hemp showed smooth and long shape. Mulberry paper was proved to be short and thin, which is quite appropriate for making paper. In this study, we found that plant fibers for living material could be used for cloth materials.

  • According to fast change of the environment, the structured study of the ecosystem by analyzing the plant leaves are needed. Expecially, the methodology that searches and classifies the leaves from captured from the smart device have received numerous concerns in the field of computer science and ecology. In this paper, we propose a plant leaf classification technique using shape descriptor by combining Scale Invarinat Feature Transform (SIFT) and Histogram of Oriented Gradient (HOG) from the image segmented from the background via Graphcut algorithm. The shape descriptor is coded in the field of Locality-constrained Linear Coding to optimize the meaningful features from a high degree of freedom. It is connected to Support Vector Machines (SVM) for efficient classification. The experimental results show that our proposed approach is very efficient to classify the leaves which have similar color, and shape.

  • Seed size traits are controlled by multiple genes in crops and determine grain yield, quality and appearance. However, the molecular mechanisms controlling the size of plant seeds remain unclear. We performed functional analysis of BrPATL4 encoding Sec14-like protein to determine the genetic architecture of seed size, shape and their association analyses. We used 60 $T_3$ transgenic rice lines to evaluate seed length, seed width and seed height as seed size traits, and the ratios of these values as seed shape traits. Pleiotropic effects on general architecture included small seed size, erect panicles, decreased grain weight, reduced plant height and increased sterility, which are common to other mutants deficient in gibberellic acid (GA) biosynthesis. To test whether BrPATL4 overexpression is deleterious for GA signal transduction, we compared the relative expression of GA related gene and the growth rate of second leaf sheath supplied with exogenous $GA_3$. Overexpression of BrPATL4 did not affect GA biosynthesis or signaling pathway, with the same response shown under GA treatment compared to the wild type. However, the causal genes for the small seed phenotype (D1, SRS1, and SRS5) and the erection of panicles showed significantly decreased levels in mRNA accumulation compared to the wild type. These results suggest that the overexpression of BrPATL4 can control seed size through the suppression of those genes related to seed size regulation. Although the molecular function of BrPATL4 is not clear for small seed and erect panicles of BrPALT4 overexpression line, this study provides some clues about the genetic engineering of rice seed architecture.

  • This paper is written for the development of boiler combustion air control algorithm of coal-fired power plant by the steps of design, coding and test. The control algorithms were designed in the shape of cascade control for two parts of air master, forced draft fan pitch blade by standard function blocks. This control algorithms were coded to the control programs of distributed control systems under development. The simulator for coal-fired power plant was used in the test step and automatic control, sequence control and emergency stop tests were performed successfully like the tests of the actual power plant. The reliability will be obtained enough to apply to actual site if the total test has been completed in the state that all algorithms were linked mutually. It is expected that the project result will contribute to the safe operation of domestic power plant and the self-reliance of coal-fired power plant control technique.

  • A palynological study of genus Dioscorea L. in Korea was conducted to evaluate the taxonomic implications. As a result of confirming the palynological characteristics of seven taxa of Dioscorea L., including six that are distributed in Korea and D. tokoro found in Japan, sections or species were classified according to the characteristics, such as the number of apertures, the polar end shape, and exine sculpturing. Specifically, the exine sculptures of D. coreana and D. tokoro, erroneously known to be distributed in Korea, are distinguished. The change in the number of apertures is closely associated with microsporogenesis, and it can be presumed that disulcate pollen might have been derived from monosulcate pollen in Dioscorea.

  • Variation of morphological and physiological traits of 50 Bidens tripartita accessions were studied and the accessions were grouped through cluster analysis based on four major characters; plant type, leaf partition, achene length, days to flowering. Bidens tripartite accessions have shown significant variations in plant type, stem length, days to flowering, leaf shape, leaf partition, chlorophyll content, leaf color, stem color, achene color, achene length and achene shape. Most of Bidens tripartite accessions appeared to have strong dormancy and also photodormancy with some exceptions. Plants could be classified into 5 types from straight(I) to triangle(V), and intermediate diamond type(III) was prevalent. The plant type score has negative correlation with the stem length. None, three, and five part leaved plants were observed and most of them were three or five parted. Leaf partition had negative correlation with achene length and chlorophyll content. Average days to flowering was 108 days in the range of 94~141 days. It had positive correlation with achene length and leaf shape and negative correlation with achene color. Average achene length was 10.0mm and it had positive correlation with achene shape, stem length, days to flowering and leaf shape. It also had negative correlation with leaf color, stem color, achene color, leaf partition. Bidens tripartite accessions could be divided into identifiable six groups from the cluster analysis at the distance 0.06 using Ward's minimum-variance method.
