This paper introduces a feasibility evaluation method for prognosis systems based on an empirical model in nuclear power plants. By exploiting the dynamical signature characterized by abnormal phenomena, the prognosis technique can be applied to detect the plant abnormal states prior to an unexpected plant trip. Early $operator^{\circ}{\emptyset}s$ awareness can extend available time for operation action; therefore, unexpected plant trip and time-consuming maintenance can be reduced. For the practical application in nuclear power plant, it is important not only to enhance the advantages of prognosis systems, but also to quantify the negative impact in prognosis, e.g., uncertainty. In order to apply these prognosis systems to real nuclear power plants, it is necessary to conduct a feasibility evaluation; the evaluation consists of 4 steps (: the development of an evaluation method, the development of selection criteria for the abnormal state, acquisition and signal processing, and an evaluation experiment). In this paper, we introduce the feasibility evaluation method and propose further study points for applying prognosis systems from KHNP's experiences in testing some prognosis technologies available in the market.
The emergency AC power supply system of the nuclear power plant is designed to supply the power to the nuclear reactor at the emergency operating condition. The safety function of the diesel generator at the nuclear power plant is to supply AC electric power to the plant safety system whenever the preferred AC power supply is unavailable. The reliable operation of onsite emergency diesel generator should be ensured by a conditioning monitoring system designed to maintain and monitor and forecast the reliability level of diesel generator. To do this kind of diesel generator condition monitoring we reviewed several operating factors and history of the wolsong unit 3 diesel generator and selected the proper conditioning monitoring operating factors.
Azospirillum sp., photosynthetic bacteria(Rhodopseudomonas sp.) and Pseudomonas sp. were separated and screened from soil and soilless culture, and identificated. The antifungal activities against root-infected pathogens and plant growth promoting effects of the cultured solution of the starins(5.0$\times$105 cells/$m\ell$) in the peatmoss compost on the early growth of cucumber and tomato seedling were investigated. Azospirillum sp. and Pseudomonas sp. showed a antifungal activities against Fusarium sp., Pythium sp. and Rhizoctonia sp in thed ranges of 51.0% to 72.0% on potato dextrose agar medium, however photosynthetic bacteria had not antifungal activities. When cultured solution of Azospirillum sp., photosynthetic bacterial and Pseudomonas sp. were bacterialized by mixing with peatmoss compost, early growth of cucumber and tomato in terms of plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, root length, fresh anf dry weight of leaf, stem and root were promoted, especially photosynthetic bacteria had a the best plant growth promting activities.
Shoot induction system was developed in the recalcitrant plant species, Brassica rapa ssp. rapifera by using optimum selection of profit organ, phytohormone combination, seedling age and kind of culture container. Out of in vitro cultured leaf segment, petiole, hypocotyl, and cotyledon with petiole, only cotyledon with petiole derived from 4 day-old seedlings induced multiple shoot. The optimum combination of auxin and cytokinin for the multiple shoot induction was MS medium containing 5mg/L BA and 0.5mg/L NAA. The major factors for multiple shoot propagation were part of plant organ, age of seedling, and ratio of auxin and cytokinin. In addition, shoot regeneration was promoted in the 100ml Erlenmeyer flask compared with the $90mm{\times}20mm$ Petri-dish. The induced shoots formed roots easy on MS medium containing 0.1mg/L IBA and the whole plants were successfully cultivated in soil.
One hundred fifty four our of 262 isolates of Fusarium oxysporum obtained from healthy plant tissues of various crops and their rhizosphere soil were found to be nonpathogenic to cucumber plants. The nonpathogenic isolates were frequently found from sesame plant tissues and rhizosphere soil, but less from healthy plant tissues of cucumber and water melon. When the 154 nonpathogenic isolates were preinoculated into cucumber seedlings, and then challenge-inoculated with Fusarium wilt pathogen, 21 isolates protected effectively cucumber plants from Fusarium wilt infections. A year later, 9 out of 21 isolates fully sustained their protective effect. Among 9 isolates showing good protective effects, 7 were isolates from cucumber plants. These 9 isolates except 1 isolate, were not pathogenic to water melon, chines melon, tomato and sesame.

LID facilities do not consider environmental factors, and due to inappropriate vegetation planting causing degradation in efficiency due to plant damage and difficulty in maintenance. Therefore, in this study, assessment of impact environmental factor by seasonal variation of chlorophyll and growth of vegetation planted in LID technologies and change of pollutant reduction were conducted. In the case of B-SJ and B-RI, growth rate decreased after summer (August), and B-MG showed steady growth until autumn (September). Chlorophyll was found to increase during spring season while it decreased during autumn season. The chlorophyll concentration was found to affect the plant growth pattern. TN reduction efficiency was highest with greater than 80% efficiency in summer, and it was analyzed that plants were identified as the main factor affecting the seasonal reduction efficiency of TN. Also, temperature and relative humidity were analyzed to affect plant growth, activity and pollutant removal efficiency. Plant type and growth pattern are considered as factors to be considered in selection of appropriate plant types in LID technologies.
In a plant breeding program, an efficient selection of desired characters in a population is important. Generally, many agronomic characters in a given population are determined by polygenes and quantitatively inherited. In practice, the genetic relationship between two observed characters which are undoubtedly subjected to the environmental influence is difficult to identify. In recent years, many workers have attempted to understant the genetic relationship between characters in terms of genotypic correlation, and the knowledge thus gained should furnish many important and useful information for the planning of breeding, selection, and interpretation of the result. The genotypic correlation is the result of pleiotropy, linkage of genes(2, 3, 5, 6, 8) and natural or artificial selection(4). The purposes of this study were to estimate genotyric and phenotypic correlations between all possible pairs of nine characters. and to seek certain characters which may be useful as indicators of certain important agronomic characters. Weber and Moorthy(10), Johnson et al. (5) and Sheth(7) found that in general, the genotypic correlations were higher than the phenotypic correlations. Weiss et al. (11) obtained significant positive correlations between maturity and oil content, maturity and low protein content, and high protein content and low oil content. Weber and Moorthy(10) reported the positive genotypic correlations between flowering and maturity, yield and maturity, yield and plant height, yield and seed weight, and negative genotypic correlations between maturity and oil content, and oil content and seed weight. Johnson et al. (5) studied the genotypic and phenotypic correlations among 24 characters and concluded that selection based entirely on a long fruiting period, lateness, heavy seed, low protein, high oil and resistance to lodging would be effective in increasing yield. Sheth(7) found the following positive associations among characters; height and maturity, yield and lodging, low protein content and high oil content, and yield and low protein content. Hanson et al.(1) also reported high negative correlation between seed yield and protein content.
Resistant cell lines to azetidine-2-carboxylic acid (AZCA) were selected through rice embryo culture after mutagenic treatment of callus irradiated with 30,50,70,90 and 120 Gy. The optimum AZCA concentration for the selection of resistant cell lines was 3 or 4 mM AZCA considering $LD_{50}$ and the fresh weight of callus. Survival rate of the AZCA resistant callus showed remarkable increase in the callus irradiated with 50 and 70 Gy. Regeneration rate of the AZCA resistant callus was much lower on the whole. Ninety and 120 Gy increased the regeneration rate for calli selected from 3 and 4 mM AZCA, respectively. Based on fresh weight, survival rate and regeneration for selection of the AZCA resistant cell line, 50-90 Gy was considered as the optimum range of gamma irradiation. Irradiated calli selected from AZCA were more tolerant to NaCl than those from non-irradiated calli. It suggests that elevated resistance to osmotic stress resulted from mutagenic treatment. The level of free proline content in the AZCA resistant cell line was increased up to 3.5 times compared with that in the control. Proline content in the regenerant derived from the AZCA resistant cell line also increased to 1.7 times that from the control plants regenerated from callus grown in AZCA free medium. Selection of proline overproducing cell lines by in vitro mutagenesis was successful and seems to be useful for improvement of stress tolerance in this crop.

Apple stem pitting virus (ASPV), of the Foveavirus genus in the family Betaflexiviridae, is one of the most common viruses of apple and pear trees. To examine variability of the coat protein (CP) gene from ASPV, eight isolates originating from 251 apple trees, which were collected from 22 apple orchards located in intensive apple growing areas of the North Gyeongsang and North Jeolla Provinces in Korea, were sequenced and compared. The nucleotide sequence identity of the CP gene of eight ASPV isolates ranged from 77.0 to 97.0%, while the amino acid sequence identity ranged from 87.7 to 98.5%. The N-terminal region of the viral CP gene was highly variable, whereas the C-terminal region was conserved. Genetic algorithm recombination detection (GARD) and single breakpoint recombination (SBP) analyses identified base substitutions between eight ASPV isolates at positions 54 and 57 and position 771, respectively. GABranch analysis was used to determine whether the eight isolates evolved due to positive selection. All values in the GABranch analysis showed a ratio of substitution rates at non-synonymous and synonymous sites (dNS/dS) below 1, suggestive of strong negative selection forces during ASPV CP history. Although negative selection dominated CP evolution in the eight ASPV isolates, SLAC and FEL tests identified four possible positive selection sites at codons 10, 22, 102, and 158. This is the first study of the ASPV genome in Korea.
