  • This study investigates the extent to which the implementation of enterprise resource planning(ERP) systems enhance the corporate performance by examining financial variables of the implemented firms against those of the control fm. A total of 346 observations were obtained from 160 firms, 80 implemented firms and 80 control firms, for the period of 1998-2002. Results from the study partly support the assertion that ERP improves the full spectrum of business functions such as selling, marketing, purchasing, warehousing, accounting and human resources by tightly integrating enterprise-wise information databases. First the profitability of the implemented group was different from that of the control group. The indicator (dummy) variable was able to explain the differences in total cash flows between the implemented group fm and the control group firms. Second, ERP turned out In improve the efficiency in managing assets. The indicator variable has the power in explaining the differences in the amount of accounts receivables between the implemented group firms and the control group firms. Third, the product turnover ratio of the implemented group was different from that of the control group. Fourth, the average value added per employee and the net income per employee of the implemented group firms were greats- than those of the control group firms. Finally, the average magnitude of the administrative expenses of the implemented group firms was smaller than that of the control group firms.

  • A literature analysis for the planning and implementation of information system was carried out to establish the oceanographic R&D results, the first in Korea. The study targeted from scientific & technical report and to oceanographic survey data. The focus of the analysis lies in the providing practical information retrieval service for oceanographic R&D results based on the framework of effective Dublin Core metadata. The analyses included information system organization, web information service process, data input-output process, web visualization process, and retrieval for planning and implementation of oceanographic survey data and scientific & technical report.

  • Recently, many enterprises wish to preoccupy competitive positions in the market by motivating themselves towards CALS(Commerce At Light Speed) and try hard to achieve system implementation with the use of new concept-based backbone systems such as ERP(Enterprise Resource Planning) or PDM(Product Data Management). However, unfortunately there is an inevitable discrepancy during implementation period between package vendors and customers due to lack of clear methodology and misunderstanding about system. In some cases, consensus on partially verified system design invokes customers'continuous change demands and often it tends to result in unnecessary project delays. PDM application system implementation project of the company L has been studied here to solve these sorts of problems. The major yields of this work are achievement of a willing approval from customers and rapid system design under a time-limited and conceptually defined project scope and finally, through fully verified system design, we were able to reach successful system implementation.

  • The purpose of this study is to introduce the storytelling project for conservation and improvement of rural tourism. So, in this study, the current Jeju Batdam and storytelling planning are examined and the storytelling project presented in planning is also examined. And this study propose the storytelling implementation through the case study related in jeju. Its findings are as follws: 1) Storytelling exhibits principles of narrative structure(exposition, complication, climax and falling action) in various fact, and has shown tendency to structuralize a story. 2) It can be said that storytelling is deeply related with people's associations of their inner mind. 3) In order to convey a story in a more convincing way, storytelling a naming strategy based on a rhetorical technique, which has been shown to positively influence creating unique Jeju Batdam area.

  • Over the past few years, there has been a growing interest in using information technology for competitive advantage. A sustainable advantage is the key to the survival and growth of a firm. The successful implementation of information technology is dependent on efficient information systems planning. But the correct and complete information, requirements for effective information systems planning are frequently very difficult to obtain. In this paper the Critical Success Factors(CSF) method was employed as a means of managerial information requirements analysis for information systems planning in Korea's steel industry. CSFs are one of the few areas of activity that must go well to ensure the success of an organization. This paper addresses the concept and hierarchy of CSF analysis as a methodology in identifying corporate information needs and concludes with the use and benefit of results of CSF analysis.

  • This study discusses how to rationalize or innovate the managerial practice of the profitability-deteriorated hospitals in Korea, and attempts to suggest proper planning models and strategies to reorient them. For these purposes, the hospitals' financial indicators were analysed, the process of profit planning were reviewed, and strategic assessment were made, using relevant data. The analysis shows that failures both in proper capital investment to fixed assests and in effective containment of operating costs have been causing the worsening of profitability. For the improvement of the profitability management, seven procedural and behavioral strategies were suggested from the innovative and rationalizing perspectives, together with necessary prerequisite conditions to be equipped with for their implementation. This study concludes that the top management should attempt the changs on their own initiative.

  • This paper describes the methods of spline low-order polynomial trajectory planning using only a few limited look-ahead knots on the desired trajectory for the real-time computing. Specifically presented are the mixed joint trajectory planning methods which apply linear or LSPB method to initial and finial segments, overlapped cubic spline method to the other segments, where the displacements for initial and finial segments are chosen to be relatively smaller than the displacements for the other, equidistant segments. Experimental and simulation results of these methods show smooth motions and improved path tracking performances compared with any other interpolated joint trajectory planning methods.

  • In this paper, assuming that local range information is available, a collision-free path planning algorithm for multiple mobile robots is presented by using Hopfield neural optimization network. The energy function of the network is built using the present position and the goal position of each robot as well as its local range information. The proposed algorithm has several advantages such as the effective passing around obstacles with the directional safety distance, the easy implementation of robot motion planning including its rotation, the real-time path planning capability from the totally localized computations of path for each robot, and the adaptivity on arbitrary environment since any special shape of obstacles is not assumed.
