The paper presents a closed-form analytical solution for the ultimate strength of sandwich panels with metal faces and an elastic isotropic core during combined in-plane compression and lateral pressure under clamped boundary condition. By using the principle of minimum potential energy, the stress distribution in the faces during uni-axial edge compression and constant lateral pressure was obtained. Then, the ultimate edge compression was derived on the basis that collapse occurs when yield has spread from the mid-length of the sides of the face plates to the center of the convex face plates. The results were validated by nonlinear finite element analysis. Because the solution is analytical and closed-form, it is rapid and efficient and is well-suited for use in practical structural design methods, including repetitive use in structural optimization. The solution applies for any elastic isotropic core material, but the application that stimulated this study was an elastomer-cored steel sandwich panel that had excellent energy absorbing and protective properties against fire, collisions, ballistic projectiles, and explosions.
Face recognition is one of the problems to be solved by appearance based matching technique. However, the appearance of face image is very sensitive to variation in illumination. One of the easiest ways for better performance is to collect more training samples acquired under variable lightings but it is not practical in real world. ]:n object recognition, it is desirable to focus on feature extraction or normalization technique rather than focus on classifier. This paper presents a simple approach to normalization of faces subject to directional illumination. This is one of the significant issues that cause error in the face recognition process. The proposed method, ICR(illumination Compensation based on Multiple Linear Regression), is to find the plane that best fits the intensity distribution of the face image using the multiple linear regression, then use this plane to normalize the face image. The advantages of our method are simple and practical. The planar approximation of a face image is mathematically defined by the simple linear model. We provide experimental results to demonstrate the performance of the proposed ICR method on public face databases and our database. The experimental results show a significant improvement of the recognition accuracy.

In this study, NATM can reduce the loosened ground near the tunnel face more than the other pre-existing tunnelling methods, because of rapid supporting by means of shotcrete and rock bolts. However, this method sometimes can not help for a unstable tunnel face with a unsupported caondition. In order to keep from that dangerous case, some excavation methods such as bench cut and drift advancing method are introduced, despite of high construction cost and period. So, this thesis is intended to introduce the new tunnel face shape, that is concave shaped face, and discusses its effects on the tunnel stabilization.

This paper presents the new template based human face recognition methods to improve the recognition performance against scale and in-plane rotation variations of face images. To enhance the recognition performance, the templates are generated by linear or nonlinear operation on multiple images including different scales and rotations of faces. As the invariant features to allow for scale and rotation variations of face images, we adopt the affine transformation, the log-polar mapping, and the log-polar image based FFT. The proposed recognition methods are evaluated in terms of the recognition rate and the processing time. Experimental results show that the proposed template based methods lead to higher recognition rate than the single image based one. The affine transformation based face recognition method shows marginally higher recognition rate than those of the log-polar mapping based method and the log-polar image based FFT, while, in the aspect of processing time, the log-polar mapping based method is the fastest one.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to measure the angular differences between the horizontal reference planes on the CBCT generated PA cephalogram and the modified interpupillary plane, which was usually used in the clinical examination, and to evaluate the validity of the horizontal reference planes. Methods: The CBCT generated PA cephalogram was used to measure the angles between the FH, Lo and IP planes. The subjects consisted of 42 patients with facial asymmetry (males: 21, females: 21, mean-age: 21.6 years). The control groups were also assessed (males: 10, females: 10, mean-age: 23.8 years). The distance of the interpupil was measured on the soft-tissue volume rendered image. The angular differences were statistically analyzed using the $Mann-Whitney$$U$$test$ for inter-group comparisons and the $Friedman$$test$ for intra-group comparisions. Results: The angle between the FH plane and IP plane (the angle of the FH-IP line) showed a statistically significant difference between the two groups ($p$ <0.05). There was no statistical differences between each angle (angle of the FH-IP line, angle of the FH-Lo line, angle of the Lo-IP line) on the intra-group comparision ($p$ >0.05). Conclusion: The angle between the Lo line and IP line (angle of the Lo-IP line) showed no statistically significant difference in both the control and asymmetry groups. Therefore, the Lo line could be used as a horizontal reference plane in CBCT generated PA cephalograms.
The Purpose of this study was to know the differences between the occlusal plane angles formed by F-H plane on cephalograms and the occlusal plane angles by the upper margin of the articulator, and to ind the contributing factors to the difference of occlusal angles. for this study, 39 young adults (20 men, 19 women) were selected who had normal occlusion, no severe attrition, no missing tooth, not been under orthodontic treatment and occlusal equilibration and no temporomandibular disorders. The maxillary casts were mounted with Hanau 159-1 ear piece type face-bow and measured the occlusal plane angle with prototype occlusal plane projector. The following results were obtained; 1. The mean value of the ear rod F-H plane occlusal angle was 14.75˚, articulator occlusal angle was 9.26˚ and strong positive correlation between these angles, 2. It was almost same angle between the ear rod F-H plane angle (14.75˚) and the beyron point to infraorbital rim-6mm. occlusal angle (14.46˚) 3. The mean distance from the ear rod porion to the Byron point was 5.67mm. 4. It was no significant correlation between the distances Po-Beyron point, Or-infraorbital rim and articulator occlusal angle.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate suitable anterior reference point similar to esthetic reference plane of the patient while transferring the suitable facebow. So those who live in Pusan with the normal occlusal relationship were chosen as subjects. The esthetic reference planes determined by the participants themselves and the superior reference line (anterior reference point) in Hanau & Denar articulator were compared with F-H plane in the standard lateral cephalogram. The results were as follows. 1. The angle between the esthetic reference plane and F-H plane was $2.81{\pm}5.7^{\circ}$. 2. The reference line, 43mm from Beyron point to the edge of the upper incisor, was the reference plane that had the closest paralleled relationship with the esthetic reference plane. 3. Transferring with ear piece type face-bow, the anterior reference point that showed the esthetic reference plane was 17mm below orbitale or 43mm above, the edge of the upper incisor.
Face detection using the LBP based feature descriptor has issues in that it can not represent spatial information between facial shape and facial components such as eyes, nose and mouth. To address these issues, in previous research, a facial image was divided into a number of square sub-regions. However, since the sub-regions are divided into different numbers and sizes, the division criteria of the sub-region suitable for the database used in the experiment is ambiguous, the dimension of the LBP histogram increases in proportion to the number of sub-regions and as the number of sub-regions increases, the sensitivity to facial orientation rotation increases significantly. In this paper, we present a novel facial region segmentation method that can solve in-plane rotation issues associated with LBP based feature descriptors and the number of dimensions of feature descriptors. As a result, the proposed method showed detection accuracy of 99.0278% from a single facial image rotated in orientation.

Design method for Involute bevel gears is developed. The developed gear design system can design the optimized gear that minimize the number of pinion teeth with face tooth. Method of optimization is MS(matrix search) which is developed from this study. Design variables are pressure angle 20, transmitted power, gear volume, gear ratio, allowable contact stress and allowable bending stress, etc. Design method developed this study can bd applide to the plane, machine tools, automobiles.
A map is singular if each edge is on the same face on a surface (i.e., those have only one face on a surface). Because any map with loop is not colorable, all maps here are assumed to be loopless. In this paper po-vides the explicit expression of chromatic sum functions for rooted singular maps on the projective plane, the torus and the Klein bottle. From the explicit expression of chromatic sum functions of such maps, the explicit expression of enumerating functions of such maps are also derived.
