  • The variation of S11 depending on the ground sizes of circular planar monopole UWB antenna was studied. And optimal ground structure and size in UWB application devices are proposed. Radius R of circular monopole UWB antenna as a reference antenna was designed for UWB frequency band, and the measured results of this antenna on the horizontal ground plane was good agreed with the simulated results. When radius R is small, optimal size of ground plane is proposed, and when radius R is more large, minimum size of ground plane is proposed.

  • In this paper, a new co-planar waveguide ultra-wideband aperture is designed as wireless application in ships. The designed antenna consists of a rectangular aperture on a determined ground plane and a mushroom shaped stub. The mushroom-shaped stub, which is simple, convenient to analyze and optimise, has less parameters. This antenna has compact aperture size $21.1{\times}8.1mm^2$, designed on FR-4 substrate with dielectric constant of 4.3, thickness of 1.5mm. CPW fed planar antenna has the advantages of wide-bandwidth, low-cost and easy interaction with the radio frequency front end circuitry.

  • This paper proposes a uni-planar elliptical element UWB antenna with band-notched characteristic and modified pound plane fed by CPW. The antenna achieves VSWR below 2 for UWB band(3.1 GHz${\~}$10.6 GHz). In addition, a band-notched characteristic is achieved by inserting a horizontal slot on the radiation element to avoid the interference with 5 GHz(5.15 GHz${\~}$5.825 GHz) band limited by IEEE 802.1la. The antenna has a thin profile, compact size, and ease of manufacture by adopting a CPW feed structure without any additional background plane. Measured data show that the proposed antenna has good return loss below -10 dB, about 2.1 dB${\~}$4.75 dB maximum gain over the bandwidth, omni-directional radiation patterns, linear phase response.

  • In this paper, a two-dimensional slotline coupling structure is proposed for the planar active phased array antenna system with scanning the beam by coupled oscillators without phase shifters. The operating characteristics are analyzed and experimentally demonstrated. The proposed two-dimensional slotline coupling structure consists of $|{=}|$-type slotline in the ground plane for the coupling of E-plane and H-plane. From the simulation results of coupling strength with the variation of width, length and the number of slotlines, the optimal coupling structure is proposed and applied to $2{\times}5$ elements of planear phased array antenna. The experimental results show that the beamwidth of E-plane and H-pland are $42^{\circ}$ and $15^{\circ}$, respectivly, and the scanning range is from $-20^{\circ}$ to $15^{\circ}$ from the broadside. Therefore, it is shown the two-dimensional slotline coupling structure for oscillator-type active phased array antenna can be applied to the planar phased array antenna system.

  • This paper describes the development and measurement results of C-band planar active phase array antenna for detecting and tracking radar(weapon-locating radar). The antenna is designed with 14 sub-arrays(12 main channels and 2 sidelobe blanking channels and approximately 3,000 elements of transmit-receive channel) to generate transmit and digital receive patterns. Using a near-field measurements facility, G/N, transmit patterns, and received patterns are measured. Receive patterns are implemented with digital beamforming by signal processing. The measurement results demonstrate that antenna design specifications were fulfilled.

  • Large planar military antenna boasts a range of electrical components, including TRA(Transmit-Receive Assembly), signal processors, etc. which engage in computations and calculations. These processes generate a significant amount of heat, leading to unforeseen consequences for the equipment. To mitigate these adverse effects, it's imperative to implement a cooling system that can effectively reduce heat-related issues. Given the antenna's intricate nature and the multitude of components it houses, a two-step estimation process is necessary. The first step involves a comprehensive model calculation to determine the total flow characteristics, while the second step entails a thermal analysis of individual TRA set. In this study, we depicted an antenna set using simplified 3D models of its components, considering their material and thermal properties. The sequential analysis process facilitated the calculation of branched flow rates, providing insights into the individual TRA. This approach also allowed us to design a cooling system for the TRA set, assessing its thermal stability in high-temperature environments. To ensure the optimal performance of TRA, breaking down the analysis into stages based on the cooling system's structure can assist operators in predicting numerical results more effectively.

  • This feasibility study evaluated an optically transparent planar antenna using liquid salt-water as the conducting material. The most significant reason behind using liquid salt-water for transparent antenna applications is its excellent average optical transparency (OTav) (> 95% at a salinity of 40 ppt) compared to other typical solid transparent thin-film electrodes, such as indium tin oxide (ITO:> 73%) or multi-layer films (MLF: > 78%). Each conductive arm of the proposed dipole is constructed from a salt-water layer held between two clear planar acrylic layers (r = 2.61, tan = 0.01, OTav > 90%) (acrylic/salt-water/acrylic; ASA) due to surface tension. To examine the electrical and optical properties of the ASA structure, the surface tension was measured to determine the thickness of the salt-water layer that finalized its sheet resistance and OTav. The average gain and efficiency of the antenna were 1.72 dBi and 74%, respectively, in the operating UHF (Ultra high frequency) band (470-771 MHz). Therefore, the proposed antenna can be a good candidate for applications as a transparent planar antenna using salt-water.

  • In this paper, the planar monopole antenna for multi-band service is proposed. The proposed antenna, which is a rectangular patch antenna with a U-shaped slit based on a monopole antenna for wide bandwidth characteristic, is designed and analyzed. The antenna size has been miniaturized by using the U-shaped slit. The frequency characteristics are modified and optimized by varying specific parameters. To obtain desired frequency bands, the U-shaped slit and patch lines have been applied. Whole antenna dimensions including the ground plane are $35{\times}50{\times}1\;mm^3$, and the antenna part size is $35{\times}27\;mm^2$. It is fabricated on the FR-4 substrate(${\epsilon}_r=4.4$) using a microstrip line of $50{\Omega}$ for impedance matching. For the measured results, the impedance bandwidth below a VSWR of 2 is 790~916 MHz, 1.74~2.14 GHz, and 2.36~3.13 GHz. The fabricated antenna is satisfied with the aimed impedance bandwidth in GSM/DCS/US-PCS/UMTS/Bluetooth/S-DMB applications.

  • In this Paper, a new antenna(VHMDA) characteristics of half-circular/elliptical disc-loaded planar antennas with horizontally top-loaded small disc is studied by simulation and measurements with additional resonant structure. The transfer function characteristics of Gaussian pulse from the designed UWB transmitter antenna has been investigated. The radiation pattern of the proposed antenna in azimuth is nearly omni-directional response, which is usulally required in conventional monopole antenna. In addition to that, the simulation and measured results show that the return loss characteristics of VHDMA covers considerably large bandwidth with small area. From the measured results of the circular and half-circular disc-loaded monopole antennas with small disc mounted on the top, it is found that the half disc-loaded monopole antenna with additional structure can be comparable to the circular disc-loaded monopole antenna in respect o( size and electrical performances. Surface wave and dielectric losses often caused by the printed antenna using high dielectric constant does not occur in metallic planar antenna with good impedance matching and without lossy matching unit. This structure implies that the performance of return loss is directly related with the radiation efficiency.

  • In this paper, a design method for a quasi-Yagi antenna (QYA) suitable for UHF band is studied. Due to the mutual coupling between a coplanar strip (CPS)-fed planar dipole and a conducting strip director placed close to the dipole, the dipole obtains broadband characteristics. A ground reflector improves gain in the lower frequency band, and the antenna size might be reduced by employing a bent reflector. The balun between the CPS line and the microstrip(MS) line is constructed by connecting the end of MS line and the CPS line through a shorting pin. In addition, a ring-type conductor connects the CPS line and reflector. The effects of various geometrical parameters and balun on the antenna characteristics are examined. An antenna, as an design example for the proposed antenna, is designed for the operation in the frequency band of 470-806 MHz for terrestrial DTV.
