  • In this paper, we estimated the degree of pipe thinning by using two accelerometers. It uses measured velocity of flexural wave traveling along the pipes. If the thickness of the wall decreases because of pipe thinning, flexural stiffness of the pipes decreases and accordingly, traveling velocity of flexural wave decreases. Thus, if we install two vibration sensors outside of the pipes and measures traveling velocity of flexural waves regularly, we can estimate and monitor the degree of pipe thinning quickly. In order to test the method we experimented with pipes, and get the result that group velocity varies according to the degree of pipe thinning. It verified this method can be used to monitor the pipe thinning.

  • A pulsation of fluid in a pipe sometimes causes severe vibration of pipe. The inertia, damping and stiffness characteristics of pipe will be changed by the effect of fluid-structure interaction. The velocity and pressure of fluid will impose the force to a bended shape pipe. In this paper, a pipe with fluid flow is modeled by finite element method and the fluid force from pulsation is also modeled by the fluid dynamics. The vibration of pipe conveying pulsating fluid flow can be estimated by taking into consideration of fluid-structure interaction.

  • The forced vibration response characteristics of a elastically restrained pipe conveying fluid with attached mass are investigated in this paper. Based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, the equation of motion is derived by using Hamilton's principle. The effects of attached mass and spring constant on the forced vibration characteristics of pipe at conveying fluid are studied. The forced deflection response of pipe with attached mass due to the variation of fluid velocity is also presented. The deflection response is the mid-span deflection of the pipe. The dimensionless forcing frequency is the range from 0 to 16 which is the first natural frequency of the pipe.

  • In this paper the vibration system is consisted of a rotating cantilever pipe conveying fluid and tip mass. The equation of motion is derived by using the Lagrange's equation. The system of pipe conveying fluid becomes unstable by flutter. Therefore, the influence of a rotating angular velocity, mass ratio, the velocity of fluid flow and tip mass on the stability of a cantilever pipe by the numerical method are studied. The critical flow velocity for flutter is proportional to the angular velocity and tip mass of the cantilever pipe. Also, the critical flow velocity and stability maps of the pipe system are obtained by changing the mass ratios.

  • In this research, GTA overlay welding system is developed for inside of straight pipes in various diameter. It can be applied to oil, ship building and plant industry, especially pipes connected to pressure vessels, for the purpose of cost reduction by cladding inside of pipes with corrosion and heat resistant alloys such as stainless steel or Inconel. Developed system consists of GTA power source, torch, wire feeding system, automatic arc length adjusting device, CCD camera and cooling unit. Two types of pipe inside overlay welding system are developed. One is for maximum 3m pipe length with 3 inch ~ 12 inch pipe outer diameter. Another type can be applied to maximum 12m pipe length with 7 ~ 24 inch OD. Developed system successfully produced inside cladded pipe and the results are shown through cross sectional images of the pipes.

  • The outlet feeder pipe thinning in a PHWR (Pressured Heavy Water Reactor) is caused by high pressure steam flow inside the pipe, which is a well known degradation mechanism called FAC (Flow Assisted Corrosion). In order to monitor the degradation, the thickness of the outlet bends closed to the exit of the pressure tube should be measured and analyzed at every official overhaul. This paper develops an automatic feeder pipe inspection system that can minimize the irradiation dose by automating the measurement process. The robot can move by itself on the feeder pipe by using an inch worm mechanism, which is constructed by two gripper bodies that can fix their body on the pipe and one extendable and retractable body connected the two gripper bodies to move forward and backward.

  • This study is to develop heat recovery system using high performance heat pipe heat exchanger for Middle-high temperature range industrial exhaust gas. The naphthalene is used as working fluid of heat pipe in this study. Single naphthalene heat pipe could transport over 2,000 watts with $0.05^{\circ}C/W$. The heat pipe heat exchanger consist of 50 naphthalene heat pipes recovered 62 kW when over $400^{\circ}C$ gas exhausted and the maximum recovered heat rate was 173 kW in this study.
