리기다 소나무, 밤나무, 느티나무의 연소성질 비교 (Comparison of Combustion Properties of the Pinus rigida, Castanea sativa, and Zelkova serrata)

  • 본 연구는 콘칼로리미터를 사용하여 한국 리기다 소나무, 밤나무, 느티나무의 연소성질을 조사하였다. 이들 종에 대한 열방출율과 연기 발생량을 측정하였다. 숯생성으로 인한 연소성 억제 증대에 대하여, 느티나무는 리기다 소나무, 밤나무에 비하여 좋은 성질을 보였다. 밤나무는 리기다 소나무, 느티나무에 비하여 높은 CO수율과 높은 $CO/CO_2$ 수율을 나타내었다.

표면개질된 Pinus rigida 분말에 의한 하수의 인산염 제거 (Phosphate Removal from Wastewater by Surface-Modified Pinus rigida Powder)

  • This research was performed to evaluate the efficacy of phosphate removal from wastewater by surface-modified wood powder and to clarify the removal mechanisms. In this work, Pinus rigida which is abundant in Korea and has little economic value was used in preparation of the wood powder as a sorbent material. The experiments were carried out in 2 phases, isothermal adsorption test and column test. The results of adsorption test fitted well both the Langmuir and Freundlich isothermal equations. Adsorption capacity was highest with the bark powder followed by the mixed powder(50% bark powder and 50% woody powder) and woody powder. Phosphate removal efficiency was as high as 98% at initial phosphate concentration of 50mg/L. Specific surface area of the powder increased following the experiment and phosphate removal was speculated to occur through adsorption mechanism. Energy dispersive X-ray analysis(EDXA) revealed that the phosphate adsorbed onto the surface of the powder was in the form of strengite($FePO_{4}$).

리기테다소나무와 백합나무(yellow poplar)의 열기건조스케줄 개발 (Development of Kiln-Dry Schedules for Pinus $rigida{\times}taeda$ and Liriodendron tulipifera)

  • Pinus $rigida{\times}taeda$ and Liriodendron tulipifira have been planted in this country for about 20 years. They are known as a relatively 13st-grown and useful species. The physical properties such as green moisture contents, specific gravities and dimensional shrinkages were examined with natively grown timbers. The kiln-dry schedules were developed with 30m thick boards by using an oven-fast-drying method. In both species the green MC's of sapwoods were higher than those of heartwoods, but their discrepancies were small. The green specific gravities of Pinus $rigida{\times}taeda$ and Liriodendron tulipifera were 0.48 and 0.41~O.42, respectively. The developed kiln-dry schedules were proven to minimize drying defects for the hoards of 30mm thickness and various width.

Fungal Endophytes Isolated from Needle Leaves of Three Coniferous Species on Mt. Seodae of Korea

  • We investigated endophytic fungi diversity of two Pinaceae species (Pinus densiflora, Pinus rigida) and one Cupressaceae species (Juniperus rigida) on Mt. Seodae, Korea. In total, 34 isolates were obtained from 19 host plants and identified according to internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region. As a result, they were placed in 13 taxa. Among them, 52.9% belonged to Leotiomycetes, 32.3% belonged to Sordariomycetes, 5.8% belonged to Agaricomycetes, and 3.0% for isolates belonged to either Eurotiomycetes, Dothideomycetes or Ustilaginomycetes. In particular, Lophodermium growing in pine would be an especially important instance of biodiversity for endophytes, suggesting that further study examining its ecological function in the environment is critical.

Species Associations with Spatial Autocorrelation Analysis of Pinus rigida and Pyrola japonica

  • The spatial distributions of allelic frequencies and ecological traits by randomization were studied in the natural population of two species (Pinus rigida and Pyrola japonica). Both species showed significant positive spatial autocorrelation as measured by Moran's I. In P. rigida, the genetic similarity was shown in individuals within up to a scale of 18 m distance and this is partly due to combination of pollen and seed dispersal by wind or men. In P. japonica, significant spatial autocorrelation was consisted of a scale of 8 m intervals. These population structure in the distribution of allelic frequencies is related to mating systems such as outcrossing and vegetative spread. The results also indicate that positive species associations between P. rigida and P. japonica can occur when both species select the same habitat or require the same environmental conditions.

Anti-Obesity and Inhibitory Effect of Lipid Accumulation of The Cone of Pinus rigida × Pinus taeda in 3T3-L1 Cells

  • With the COVID-19 pandemic, there is increasing interest in anti-obesity strategies. According to the National Statistical Office, the obesity rate in Korea was 38.3% in 2020 and 37.1% in 2021. Obesity is a risk factor for several severe diseases, including stroke, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain types of cancer. Pinus rigida × Pinus taeda is a hybrid of Pinus rigida Mill and Pinus taeda Linn, and its cones are considered a by-product. Although previous studies have investigated their pharmacological effects on antioxidant activity and protection against oxidative DNA damage, few researchers have explored their potential as functional natural materials. Therefore, we evaluated the anti-obesity effects of the cone of ethyl acetate fraction of P. rigida × P. taeda (ERT), specifically its ability to inhibit lipid accumulation. Our analysis showed that ERT contains phytochemicals (catechin and caffeic acid) which are known to improve immune function and inhibit cell damage. ERT inhibited lipid droplet accumulation at the cellular levels through Oil Red O staining. Furthermore, ERT suppressed the expression of adipogenic transcription factors (PPARγ and CEBP/α) as well as downstream lipogenic target genes (FAS and SREBP-1) thereby inhibiting adipogenesis. ERT also down-regulated key adipogenic markers, including aP2α, while inducing the phosphorylation of AMPK. It has been reported that PPARγ and CEBP/α are expressed in the early stages of adipose differentiation, while SREBP-1 is expressed in the late stage. Therefore, our findings suggest that ERT activates AMPK signaling pathways, which inhibits adipogenic transcription factors (PPARγ, C/EBPα, and SREBP1) and lipogenic genes (FAS and aP2α), thereby blocking lipid accumulation and preventing obesity and related disorders. ERT showed potential as a new resource for developing a functional material for anti-obesity agents.

발효당 생산을 위한 목질계 바이오매스의 2단 산당화 (Two-step Acid Hydrolysis Method for Producing Fermentable Sugar from Lignocellulosic Biomass)

  • 목질계 바이오매스를 이용하여 효소를 사용하지 않고 발효당을 얻기 위해 황산을 이용한 당화를 수행하였다. 바이오매스로는 pinus rigida와 palm농업 부산물인 EFB를 사용하였다. 산을 이용한 당화에서는 당의 과분해 생성물을 줄이기 위한 당화조건을 생각해 보아야 한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 목질계 바이오매스를 이용한 2단 산당화를 수행하였다. 산을 이용한 1차 가수분해에서는 72 wt%의 황산을 이용하여 $80^{\circ}C$에서 반응시켰을 경우 가장 높은 당화율을 보였고 pinus rigida와 EFB 각각 11.49 wt%, 32 wt%의 당화율을 보였다. 이후 1차 가수분해에서 얻은 액상을 9~15 wt%의 산농도가 되도록 묽혀 $50{\sim}120^{\circ}C$의 온도로 2차 가수분해를 진행했다. 2차 가수분해시 9%의 황산농도와 $120^{\circ}C$의 온도조건에서 80분간 반응시켰을 때 최종 글루코오스 당화율은 pinus rigida의 경우 86.8 wt.% (39 g/L), EFB의 경우 95.3 wt%(32.4 g/L)를 얻을 수 있었다. 각 단계에서 분석된 결과는 물질수지를 통해 확인하고 당화 효율을 비교해 보았다.

암모늄염으로 처리된 리기다 소나무의 난연성 (Combustion-Retardation Properties of Pinus rigida Treated with Ammonium Salts)

  • 본 연구에서는 암모늄염 처리에 의하여 리기다 소나무를 바탕으로한 재료의 난연성을 시험하였다. 실온에서 3종류의 암모늄염 즉, ammonium sulfate, monoammonium phosphate, 그리고 diammonium phosphate의 20 wt% 수용액에 각각 리기다 소나무를 함침시켜 건조시킨 후 콘칼로리미터(ISO 5660-1)를 이용하여 그들의 연소성을 조사하였다. 암모늄염으로 처리한 시험편들은 미처리된 시험편에 비하여 연소억제성을 향상시켰다. 그러나 CO의 발생량은 증가하여 정도에 따라 독성 영향을 미치는 것으로 보여졌다. 또한 미처리된 순수 시험편에 비해 총연기방출율과 총연기량이 모두 낮은 값을 나타내었다. 처리된 시험편 중 diammonium phosphate로 처리된 것이 가장 연소억제 효과가 강한 것으로 판단되었다.

충북 청주지역 리기다소나무와 밤나무의 상대 생장률과 기후인자와의 관계 (Relationship between Climate Factors and Relative Growth of Pinus rigida and Castanea crenata in the Cheongju Area of Chungbuk)

  • The Diameter at Breast Height (DBH) provides information about the volume growth of a tree. In this study, we estimated the relative growth rates of Castanea crenata and Pinus rigida as 4.07% and 3.73%, respectively. Although the difference was low, we demonstrated that the growth rate of C. crenata is slightly faster than that of P. rigida. After calculating the relative growth rate for each section, we found that the relative growth of C. crenata decreased with time. However, the relative growth rate of P. rigida showed an overall increase. The gap widths of both species showed an increasing trend. However, the gradient of the two species was different. The gradient of C. crenata was approximately 12.0, but that of P. rigida was approximately 4.7. This means that the volume growth of C. crenata was faster than that of P. rigida during 4 years. However, this was relatively a short period for measuring the volume growth pattern, and we believe that additional useful information can be obtained by conducting long-term ecological monitoring. Results of canonical correspondence analysis showed that among the climate variables, temperature was significantly related to the gap widths for both species.

기후변화에 따른 리기다소나무림의 잠재 생육적지 분포 변화 예측 (Changes in Potential Distribution of Pinus rigida Caused by Climate Changes in Korea)

  • 기후변화에 따른 우리나라 인공림의 취약성을 분석하기 위하여, 본 연구에서는 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC)의 'A1B' 기후변화 시나리오를 적용하여 우리나라의 대표적 조림수종인 리기다소나무림의 잠재 생육적지 분포 변화를 예측하였다. 이를 위해 제4차 임상도를 이용하여 리기다소나무림의 기존 분포면적을 추출한 후, 최근(1971-2000년), 가까운 미래(2021-2050년), 먼 미래(2071-2100년)에 대해서 온량지수, 최저온도지수, 유효강우지수 등의 세 가지 기후요소를 각각 예측하고 이를 토대로 리기다소나무림의 잠재 생육적지 분포를 예측하였다. 본 연구결과 리기다소나무림의 잠재 생육적지 분포 면적은 최근(2000년)에 비해 가까운 미래(2050년)에는 56%로 감소하고 먼 미래(2100년)에는 15%로 크게 감소하는 것으로 분석되었다. 지역별로는 강원도를 제외한 전국에서 잠재생육적지 분포의 급격한 감소가 나타났다. 강원도 지역의 경우에는 다른 지역에 비해 리기다소나무림의 조림면적이 적고 상대적으로 해발고도가 높은 지역적 특성이 반영되어 잠재 생육적지가 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 또한 해발고도에 따른 잠재 생육적지 분포 변화를 분석한 결과, 기후변화에 따라 리기다소나무림의 잠재 생육적지 분포가 해발고도가 높은 지역으로 점차 이동하는 것으로 나타났다. 예측 결과의 정확성을 분석하기 위해 Classification Accuracy(CA)와 Prediction Probability(PrP)를 구한 결과, 비교적 높은 정확도(CA 44.75%, PrP 62.56%)를 가지는 것으로 나타났다.
