This paper describes the load distribution and settlement of rockbolted-drilled shafts subjected to axial and lateral loads with the view to shortening the embedded depth of the pile shaft. The emphasis was on quantifying the reinforcing effects of rockbolts placed from the shafts to surrounding weathered rocks based on small-scale model tests peformed on instrumented piles. The major influencing parameters on reinforcing drilled shaft behavior are the number, the positions on the shaft, the grade, and the inclination angle at which the rockbolts are placed. The model tests was 1/40 scaled simulations of the behavior of the drilled shafts with varying combinations of the major influencing parameters. The incremental effects of reinforcement based on the various parameters have been weighed against load transfer characteristics before and after rockbolt installations.

An excavation with the depth of 32.7m will be constructed as a ventilation shaft in Shanghai metro Line 9. The excavation induced effect on a nearby undercrossing road in operation must be properly evaluated. A centrifuge model test was conducted to study the impact of deep excavation on this existing undercrossing. Detail simulation works are described in this paper. The excavation steps could be simulated in the no-stop state of centrifuge machine. And induced settlements of the undercrossing road in both parallel and vertical directions were analyzed. Protective partition cement soil piles were also simulated in the tests. Simulation test shows deep excavation has a great influence on undercrossing road and the partition pile can obviously deduce the influence.

As environmental problem in course of construction has been a matter of interest, noise and vibration in the process of piling are considered as a serious problem. For this reason, the use of SIP method inserting pile as soon as boring and cement grouting is rapidly increasing for preventing vibration and noise. But a resonable bearing capacity formula for SIP method does not exit and even the standard specification for domestic condition isn't formed, though the lateral friction between cement paste and the ground does an important role and boring depth largely influences to the design bearing capacity, applying the SIP method . Therefore, the lateral friction was analyzed after the direct shear test worked with the lateral face of SIP and the soil.
Vickers microhardness for polished Cu specimen has been measured by conventional and new methods. The conventional microhardness was measured by observing the diagonal of indentation after the load was removed. Whereas, the new method for microhardness was obtained by measuring the penetration depth of indenter into the specimen under the load. As the applied load was increased, the microhardness obtained by new method was increased. When the applied load was in the range of 5mN to 80mN, the rate of elastic to total depth of indenter was about 6% and the calculated depth of rounded indenter was 0.07$\mu\textrm{m}$. The difference in microhardness measured by two different methods such as conventional and new methods can be explained in terms of the elastic deformation of specimen, the shape of practical indenter and pile up of material.

The deep foundation is frequently used for the infrastructures. Since the quality control of the cast-in-place concrete foundations such as CIP piles and slurry walls is not so easy as that of the ready made PC(prestressed concrete) piles, it is necessary to get the information on the integrity of the concrete of the foundation. The depth estimation of foundations whose depths are unknown is also very important in repair and reinforcement works or in safety inspection and assessment to the big structures. The cross-hole sonic logging(CSL) system and the single channel reflection seismic measurement system were developed to test the integrity of pile. The former is well applied to CIP structures, while the later to all kinds of piles with less accurate result compared to that of CSL. To estimate the depth of the deep foundations, parallel seismics, borehole RADAR, and borehole magnetics can be used.

During an earthquake, there are three components of excitation : horizontal excitation of the ground, vertical excitation of the pile due to superstructure feedback produced by vertical excitation of the ground, and the seawater excitation by the vertical ground shaking, that is, "the seaquake." These excitations could have effects on the pore pressure buildup mode induced in the near-field of open-ended pile and the soil plugs in open-ended pipe piles installed at offshore sites. While the ground and pile excitation could be modeled by exciting the soil and pile with simulated motions, seaquake excitation induced by the vertical ground shaking can be modeled by pulsing the water pressure at the seabed. The objectives of this study were to observe buildup trend for the porewater pressures developed in near-field of open-ended pipe pile installed in the calibration chamber during the simulated earthquake and seaquake and, also to confirm the cause for reduction of soil plugging according to pore pressure buildup. During the simulated horizontal seismic motion, there was no upward flow through soil plug because the similar magnitude of excess porewater pressure were occurred at the top and under the toe of soil plug. During the horizontal seismic motion, relatively higher hydraulic gradients caused upward flow in the soil plug and then the degradation of plugging resistance was about 20%. During seaquake, in the case of the open-ended pile installed in a deep sea with more than 220m of water depth, soil plug failed completely because of high upward hydraulic gradients through soil plug.soil plug.

For the bearing capacity evaluation, dynamic pile tests instead of static pile tests have been commonly used in embedded piles, which are known to have low noise and low vibration construction method. The objective of this study is to analyze the bearing capacity and penetration behaviors of embedded piles, which are constructed in different ground conditions, by using force and velocity signals obtained in the final blows during construction of embedded piles. For the dynamic pile analyses, the CAse Pile Wave Analysis Program (CAPWAP) and Wave Equation Analysis of Piles (WEAP) have been commonly used. In this study, the CAPWAP and WEAP are used for the analyses of the dynamic pile tests, which are conducted on embedded piles. The input values, output values, and force-velocity graphs of CAPWAP determined by analyzing the measured force-velocity signals are investigated. In addition, similar force-velocity singals are obtained from the WEAP by analyzing the input values of the WEAP. Considering the subsurface investigation results around the pile tips, if the N-value increases exponentially along the depth, toe quake value should be small, and therefore large bearing capacity is identified. On the contrary, if the N-value increases linearly, the bearing capacity is small because of large toe quake value. Furthermore, the stiffness of hammer cushion and pile cushion, which is difficult to find correct values, is recommended lower than 500 kN/mm. This study demonstrates that the results of WEAP may be similar to those of CAPWAP and the WEAP can be used to estimate the bearing capacity of embedded piles.
Recently, several researches on the development of new economical foundation types have been performed to support floating structures as many offshore structures have been constructed. This study focused on the evaluation of bearing capacity of group suction piles, which are connected by a concrete pile cap. The offshore floating structures are mainly subjected to horizontal loading, so the horizontal bearing capacities of the group suction piles were analyzed by performing 3-dimensional finite element analyses. The group suction piles are expected to behave as a rigid pile due to its shallow embedded depth. Therefore, the detailed soil modeling was necessary to simulate the bearing behavior of soils under low confining pressure. The modulus and the strength of soils were modelled to increase with effective confining pressure in soils. For the parametric study, the center-to-center spacing between piles was varied and two soil types of clay and sands were applied. The analyses results showed that the yielding load of the group pile increased with the increase of the pile spacing and the yielding load of the group piles with 5D spacing was about 3 times larger than that of the single pile with free rotation.
In this study, we grasped the resistance state of the back ground which had a notable influence on computing the lateral resistance of the laterally loaded pile group in the homogeneous ground by the model test. Resistance state was grasped as the depth of rotation-point, wedge failure angle, and wedge wing angle. The model experiment is performed by varying the width, spacing and number of piles and the relative density of sand in this study. According to the observation of the rear ground surface deformation of the piles in lateral load, rotation point ratio, wedge failure angle, and wedge wing angle of the front row were similar to those of the middle row; however, those of the back row were relatively smaller. The rotation point ratio, wedge failure angle and wedge wing angle of the piles in parallel were the same as those of a single pile. Based on the model test results, equations for estimation of the rotation-point, wedge failure angle, and wedge wing angle are proposed.
Three-dimensional continuum modeling of dynamic soil-pile-structure interaction embedded in a liquefiable sand was carried out. Finn model which can model liquefaction behavior using effective stress method was adopted to simulate development of pore water pressure according to shear deformation of soil directly in real time. Finn model was incorporated into Non-linear elastic, Mohr-Coulomb plastic model. Calibration of proposed modeling method was performed by comparing the results with those of the centrifuge tests performed by Wilson (1998). Excess pore pressure ratio, pile bending moment, pile head displacement-time history according to depth calculated by numerical analysis agreed reasonably well with the test results. Validation of the proposed modeling method was later performed using another test case, and good agreement between the computed and measured values was observed.
