In this study, the pressurization characteristics of the small piezoelectric hydraulic pump for a brake system has been analyzed through modeling the full hydraulic pump components; the pump chamber, check valve, pump load, pump drive controller etc. To analyze the pressurization characteristics, the process of charging pressure in the chamber with stacked-layer piezoelectric actuator were firstly modeled. Secondly, the flow coefficient of the check valve in terms of valve opening has been calculated after computational fluid dynamics analysis, such as the pressure distribution around check valve and the flow rate, was conducted. Also the pump driving controller, which controls the input voltage to the actuator, was designed to make the load pressure follow the input pressure command. The simulation results find that it takes about 0.03ms to reach the operating load pressure required for the braking system. The simulation result was also verified through comparison to the result of the pump performance test.
Conventional Piezoelectric Energy Harvesters (CPEH) have been extensively studied for maximizing their electrical output through material selection, geometric and structural optimization, and adoption of efficient interface circuits. In this paper, the performance of Stepped Piezoelectric Energy Harvester (SPEH) under harmonic base excitation is studied analytically, numerically and experimentally. The motivation is to compare the energy harvesting performance of CPEH and SPEHs with the same characteristics (resonant frequency). The results of this study challenge the notion of achieving higher voltage and power output through incorporation of geometric discontinuities such as step sections in the harvester beams. A CPEH consists of substrate material with a patch of piezoelectric material bonded over it and a tip mass at the free end to tune the resonant frequency. A SPEH is designed by introducing a step section near the root of substrate beam to induce higher dynamic strain for maximizing the electrical output. The incorporation of step section reduces the stiffness and consequently, a lower tip mass is used with SPEH to match the resonant frequency to that of CPEH. Moreover, the electromechanical coupling coefficient, forcing function and damping are significantly influenced because of the inclusion of step section, which consequently affects harvester's output. Three different configurations of SPEHs characterized by the same resonant frequency as that of CPEH are designed and analyzed using linear electromechanical model and their performances are compared. The variation of strain on the harvester beams is obtained using finite element analysis. The prototypes of CPEH and SPEHs are fabricated and experimentally tested. It is shown that the power output from SPEHs is lower than the CPEH. When the prototypes with resonant frequencies in the range of 56-56.5 Hz are tested at 1 m/s2, three SPEHs generate power output of 482 μW, 424 μW and 228 μW when compared with 674 μW from CPEH. It is concluded that the advantage of increasing dynamic strain using step section is negated by increase in damping and decrease in forcing function. However, SPEHs show slightly better performance in terms of specific power and thus making them suitable for practical scenarios where the ratio of power to system mass is critical.

A composite with 1-3 connectivity was fabricated by filling spurrs epoxy in arried PZT bars. The composite bad lower density(2220 Kg/$m^3$), lower dielectric constant, lower piezoelectric coefficient d33(260*$10^{12}$ C/N), and higher voltage coefficient(110.1*$10^{-3}$ Vm/N) than that of solid PZT. The probe was fabricated by using composite transducer that was made above. The underwater testing of the composite transducer was performed with water backing.

In this study, we investigated the microstructure and piezoelectric properties of 0.96(K0.456Na0.536)Nb0.95Sb0.05-0.04Bi0.5(Na0.82K0.18)0.5ZrO3 (KNNS-BNKZ) ceramics based on one-step and two-step sintering processes. One-step sintering led to significant abnormal grain (AG) growth at temperatures above 1,085 ℃. With increasing sintering temperature, piezoelectric and dielectric properties were enhanced, resulting in a high d33 = 506 pC/N for one-step specimen sintered at 1,100 ℃ (one-step 1,100 ℃ specimen). However, for one-step 1,115 ℃ specimen, a slight decrease in d33 was observed, emphasizing the importance of a high tetragonal (T) phase fraction for superior piezoelectric properties. Achieving a relative density above 84 % for samples sintered by the one-step sintering process was challenging. Conversely, two-step sintering significantly improved the relative density of KNNS-BNKZ ceramics up to 96 %, attributed to the control of AG nucleation in the first step and grain growth rate control in the second step. The quantity of AG nucleation was affected by the duration of the first step, determining the final microstructure. Despite having a lower T phase fraction than that of the one-step 1,100 ℃ specimen, the two-step specimen exhibited higher piezoelectric coefficients (d33 = 574 pC/N and kp = 0.5) than those of the one-step 1,100 ℃ specimen due to its higher relative density. Performance evaluation of magnetoelectric composite devices composed of one-step and two-step specimens showed that despite having a higher g33, the magnetoelectric composite with the one-step 1,100 ℃ specimen exhibited the lowest magnetoelectric voltage coefficient, due to its lowest kp. This study highlights the essential role of phase fraction and relative density in enhancing the performance of piezoelectric materials and devices, showcasing the effectiveness of the two-step sintering process for controlling the microstructure of ceramic materials containing volatile elements.

The 2 GHz film bulk acoustic wave resonator(FBAR), one of the most necessary device of the next generation mobile communication system, consisted of solidly mounted resonator(SMR) structure using Brags reflector, was researched in this paper The FBAR applied SiO$_{2}$ and W had large difference of the acoustic impedance to reflector Al to electrode and ZnO to piezoelectric layer. Specially, the FBAR applied the two-step deposition method to improve the c-axis orientation and increase reproducibility of the fabrication device had good performance. The electrical properties of plasma such as impedance, resistance, reactance, $V_{pp},\;I{pp}$, VSWR and phase difference of voltage and current, was analyzed and measured by RF sensor with the variable experiment process factors such as gas ratio, RF power and base vacuum level about concerning the thickness, c-axis orientation, adhesion and roughness. The FBAR device about the optimum condition resulted reflection loss(S$_{11}$) of -17 dB, resonance frequency of 1.93 GHz, electric-mechanical coefficient(k$_{eff}$) of 2.38 $\%$ and Qualify factor of 580. It was seen better qualify than the common dielectric filter at present and expected on business to the filter device of 2 GHz bandwidth with the MMIC technology.
A novel laminate composite of FeCuNbSiB/FeNi /PZT is proposed, where FeCuNbSiB has a permeability of around 100000, which is much larger than that of FeNi. The high-permeability FeCuNbSiB was laminated with piezomagnetic FeNi rather than attached to its ends. It is expected that the effect produced by the high permeability will act on the whole of the piezomagnetic layer. While a FeNi layer was laminated with a FeCuNbSiB layer, the strong demagnetization produced by the latter was expected to be imposed on the FeNi layer as well as the applied fields. The distribution of applied fields was altered by the high-permeability material (both bias and ac field) and the field variation positively contributed to the ME effect in piezomagnetic/piezoelectric composites. Thus the ME voltage coefficient along with the field sensitivity were improved.
Highly sensitive pyroelectric IR sensors were fabricated with La-modified $PbTiO_{3}(PLT)$ thin plates compensating for piezoelectric effect. The device was fabricated in a dual form by placing two PLT cells, each of $1{\times}2\;mm^{2}$, side by side with appropriate electrode configuration. The dual element sensor had a signal to noise ratio of about 350 that was much larger than that of single element sensors. Further the dual element sensors exhibited excellent pyroelectric properties such as a large voltage responsivity of 2400 V/W, a pyro-coefficient of $4.6{\times}10^{-8}\;C/cm^{2}K$, a voltage figure of merit of $4.2{\times}10^{-11}\;Ccm/J$, and a small thermal time constant of 8.7 msec. It was confirmed through experiments that the dual element sensor was applicable to detect the two-dimensional moving direction of human beings.
This paper is concerned with the performance evaluation and comparison analysis fur several kinds of LIPCA (Lightweight Piezo-Composite Actuator) device system. LIPCA device system is composed of a piezoelectric ceramic layer and fiber reinforced light composite layers, typically a PZT ceramic layer was sandwiched by a top fiber layer with low CTE (coefficient of thermal expansion) and base layers with high CTE. To investigate the effect of lay-up structure of the LIPCA on the actuating performance, four kinds of actuator with different lay-up stacking sequence were designed, manufactured, and tested. The performance of each actuator was evaluated using an actuator test system consisted of an actuator supporting jig, a high voltage actuating power supplier, and a non-contact laser measuring system. From the comparison of the performance of the LIPCA prototypes, it was found that the actuator with higher coefficient of unimorph actuator can generate larger actuating displacement.

Effective transverse Piezoelectric Coefficients $(e_{31,f})$ of thick PZT $(Pb(Zr_{0.52}Ti{0.48}Ti_{0.48})O_3)$ films on $SiN_x/Si$ substrates were measured with PZT thicknesses and top electrode dimensions. $e_{31,f}$ is one of important Parameters characterizing Piezoelectricity of PZT films. Thick PZT films have been used as various sensors and actuators because of their high driving force and high breakdown voltage. Thick PZT films were fabricated on Pt/Ta/$SiN_x$/Si substrates using sol-gel method. Thicknesses of PZT films were $1{\mu}m$ and $1.8{\mu}m$. $|e_{31,f}|$ values of $1.8{\mu}m$-thick-PZT films were higher than those of $1{\mu}$-thick-PZT films. Maximum $|e_{31,f}|$ of $1.8{\mu}$-thick-PZT films was about $50^{\circ}C/m^2$.

This paper presents the fatigue characteristics of LIPCA (LIghtweight Piezo-Composite Actuator) device system. The LIPCA device system is composed of a piezoelectric ceramic layer and fiber reinforced lightweight composite layers. Typically a PZT ceramic layer is sandwiched by a top fiber layer with low CTE (coefficient of thermal expansion) and base layers with high CTE. The advantages of the LIPCA design are weight reduction by using the lightweight fiber reinforced plastic layers without compromising the generation of high force and large displacement and design flexibility by selecting the fiber direction and the size of prepreg layers. To predict the degradation of actuation performance of LIPCA due to fatigue, the cyclic electric loading tests using PZT specimens were performed and the strain for a given excitation voltage was measured during the test. The results from the PZT fatigue test were implemented into CLPT (Classical Laminated Plate Theory) model to predict the degradation of LIPCA's actuation displacement. The fatigue characteristic of PZT was measured using a test system composed of a supporting jig, a high voltage power supplier, data acquisition board, PC, and evaluated.
