A Study on Motion Estimator Design Using DCT DC Value (DCT 직류 값을 이용한 움직임 추정기 설계에 관한 연구)

  • The compression method is necessarily used to send the high quality moving picture that contains a number of data in image processing. In the field of moving picture compression method, the motion estimation algorithm is used to reduce the temporal redundancy. Block matching algorithm to be usually used is distinguished partial search algorithm with full search algorithm. Full search algorithm be used in this paper is the method to compare the reference block with entire block in the search window. It is very efficient and has simple data flow and control circuit. But the bigger the search window, the larger hardware size, because large computational operation is needed. In this paper, we design the full search block matching motion estimator. Using the DCT DC values, we decide luminance. And we apply 3 bit compare-selector using bit plane to I(Intra coded) picture, not using 8 bit luminance signals. Also it is suggested that use the same selective bit for the P(Predicted coded) and B(Bidirectional coded) picture. We compare based full search method with PSNR(Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) for C language modeling. Its condition is the reference block 8$\times$8, the search window 24$\times$24 and 352$\times$288 gray scale standard video images. The result has small difference that we cannot see. And we design the suggested motion estimator that hardware size is proved to reduce 38.3% for structure I and 30.7% for structure II. The memory is proved to reduce 31.3% for structure I and II.

Comparison and Evaluation of Web-based Image Search Engines (이미지정보 탐색을 위한 웹 검색엔진의 비교 평가)

  • Since the contents of internet resources are beginning to include texts, images and sounds, different Web-based image search engines have been developed accordingly. It is a fact that these diversities of multimedia contents have made search process and retrieval of relevant information very difficult. The purpose of the study is to compare and evaluate its special features and performance of the existing image search engines in order to provide user help to select appropriate search engines. The study selected AV Photo Finder, Lycos MultiMedia, Amazing Picture Machine, Image Surfer, WebSeek, Ditto for comparison and evaluation because of their reputations of popularity among users of image search engines. The methodology of the study was to analyze previous related literature and establish criteria for the evaluation of image search engines. The study investigated characteristics, indexing methods, search capabilities, screen display and user interfaces of different search engines for the purpose of comparison of its performance. Finally, the study measured relative recall and precision ratios to evaluate their electiveness of retrieval under the experimental set up. Results of the comparative analysis in regard to its search performance are as follows. AV Photo Finder marked the highest rank among other image search engines. Ditto and WebSeek also showed comparatively high precision ratio. Lycos MultiMedia and Image Surfer follows after them. Amazing Picture Machine stowed the lowest in ranking.

Influence of picture presence in reviews on online seller product rating: Moderation role approach

  • Online consumer reviews (OCRs) provide product information and recommendations especially pictures in reviews depict the true information about the product. This study investigates the influence of pictured reviews on online seller (for a particular product of a seller) rating with moderating effect of price, brand type (foreign vs local), goods type (experience vs search), and brand familiarity. Multiple robust linear regression analysis with moderation interaction and quadratic effect used to explain the relationship of the explanatory variables with the criterion variable. We collected cross-sectional data from the two most renowned Chinese online shopping platforms (B2C) of total 15,621 product links. Results show that higher number of reviews with a low ratio of picture reviews response negative effect on rating, whereas the lower number of reviews with a high ratio of picture reviews response positive effect on the rating. In overall picture in the reviews improve the online seller product rating. For the moderation effect, results show that price and brand familiarity have a positive interaction effect on the relation of pictured reviews and rating whereas experience goods have less negative effect comparing search goods. Finally, local brand has less negative interaction effect comparing foreign brand to pictured reviews and rating.

  • This paper is studied the high speed processing moving picture encodec to compress and encode a moving picture by real time. This is used the new motion vector search algorithm with smallest search point in H.263 encodec, and is applied the integer DCT for the encodec by converting a moving picture. The integer DCT behaves DCT by the addition operation of the integer using WHT and a integer lifting than conventional DCT that needs the multiplication operation of a floating point number. Therefore, the integer DCT can reduce the operation amount than basis DCT with having an equal PSNR because the multiplication operation of a floating point number does not need.

  • In this paper, we propose new methods used in MPEG codec that can improve the picture quality degradations of the reconstructed images, such as blocking artifacts, without additional computations. At first, a new 2-step MAD motion search is presented in the motion search and compensation course to reduce the computations and the errors of block boundary pixels. And we also present an overlapped 2-step MAD motion search that use the pixels beyond the block boundary using the reduced computations. In DCT/quantization course for intra-blocks, 1-D DCT predictive quantization and pixel difference predictive quantization, those use the adjacent pixel sets of the Previously reconstructed blocks and improve the inter-block continuity, are presented. As simulation results, proposed methods shows better picture qualities by reducing blocking artifacts than that of the conventional MPEG.

  • We propose the fast full search algorithm that reduces the computational load of the block matching algorithm which is used for a motion estimation in the video coding. Since the conventional spiral search method starts searching at the center of the search window and then moves search point to estimate the motion vector pixel by pixel, it is good for the slow motion picture. However we proposed the efficient motion estimation method which is good for the fast and slow motion picture. Firstly, when finding the initial threshold value, we use the expanded predictor that can approximately calculate minimum threshold value. The proposed algorithm estimates the motion in the new search order after partitioning the search window and adapt the directional search order in the re-divided search window. At the result, we can check that the proposed algorithm reduces the computational load 94% in average compared to the conventional spiral full search algorithm without any loss of image quality.

  • Multi-view video codec based on the High Efficiency Video Coding (MV-HEVC) has high encoding complexity because it exploits an additional reference picture for disparity compensation prediction (DCP) when the picture of dependent view is encoded. In this paper, we propose an efficient method to reduce the complexity of disparity motion vector search for the MV-HEVC. The proposed method includes the initial search point decision method using affine transform and the adaptive search range decision method. The simulation results show that the proposed method reduces the complexity of disparity motion vector search up to 90.78% with negligible coding efficiency degradation. Also the results show that the proposed method outperforms other conventional techniques reducing complexity.

  • In this paper we present new idea to highly compress the images. The previous image is transformed with wavelet and the transformed data are transmitted. The previous image is subtracted from the next image. Then difference values per pixel are scanned to search motion areas and boundaries. In the motion boundaries, motion vectors and error values are transformed with wavelet and transmitted. We also include camera motion estimation and compensation. In this method this system has advantages of more compressive data, better quality of picture and shorter processing time compared to MPEG2, MPEG4.

  • Creating digital document by scanning paper or using a digital camera or using a computer is a daily task at every office. Digital document is increasing at high pace. The quantity of digital document is almost beyond the maximum capacity of the online storage and is destroying searching efficiency.   • Fast block motion estimation technique is proposed to reduce the computational complexity in video coding. In the conventional methods the size of search region is fixed. For small motion regions like background the small size of sea of search region is enough to find a block motion. But for active motion regions the large size of search region is preferred to figure out the accurate motion vector. Therefore, it is reasonable that a block motion is estimated in the variable search region (both the size and the position of it). That is to say, the search region varies according to the predicted motion characteristics of a block. The block motion in video frames has temporal continuity and then the search region of a current block is predicted using the block motion of previous blocks. The computational complexity of the proposed technique is significantly reduced with a good picture quality compared to the conventional methods.
