  • With consideration of the first arrival picking methodology and inherent errors in picking process, I propose, from the computerization point of view, a practical algorithm for picking and error computation. The proposed picking procedure consists of 2-step; 1) picking the first coherent peak or trough events, 2) derive a line which approximates the record in the interval prior to the pick, and set the intercept time of the line as the first break. The length of fitting interval used in experiment, is few samples less than 1/4 width of the arriving wavelet. A quantitative measure of the error involved in first arrival picking is defined as the time length that needed to determine if an event is the first arrival or not. The time length is expressed as a function of frequency bandwidth of the signal and the S/N ratio. For 3 sets of cross-well seismic data, first breaks are picked twice, by manually, and by the proposed method. And at the same time, the error bound for each trace is computed. Experiment results show that good performance of the proposed picking method, and the usefulness of the quantitative error measure in pick-quality evaluation.

  • Recently, as the importance of warehouses has increased, much efforts are being made to improve the picking process in order to cope with a small amount of high frequency and fast delivery. This study proposes an algorithm to assign orders to pickers in the situation where Single Order Picking policy is used. This algorithm utilizes five attributes related to picking such as picking processing time, elapsed time after receipt of order, inspection/packing workstation situation, picker error, customer importance. A measure of urgency is introduced so that the units of measure for each attribute are the same. The higher the urgency, the higher the allocation priority. In the proposed algorithm, the allocation policy can be flexibly adjusted according to the operational goal of the picking system by changing the weight of each attribute. Simulation experiments were performed on a hypothetical small logistics warehouse. The results showed excellent performance in terms of system throughput and flow time.

  • Traveltime tomogram is generally used for interpretation of seismic tunnel data. In the field data, the first arrival traveltime is less dispersive with increasing source-receiver seperation compared to theoretical model data. So the result of calculation can be serious despite of small errors such as traveltime picking. In this study, amplitude method and error tomogram method are tried to overcome these problems. This method will help the interpretation of the data from the underground tunnel.

  • Recently, robotic bin-picking tasks have drawn considerable attention, because flexibility is required in robotic assembly tasks. Generally, stereo camera systems have been used widely for robotic bin-picking, but these have two limitations: First, computational burden for solving correspondence problem on stereo images increases calculation time. Second, errors in image processing and camera calibration reduce accuracy. Moreover, the errors in robot kinematic parameters directly affect robot gripping. In this paper, we propose a method of correcting the bin-picking error by using trinocular vision system which consists of two stereo cameras andone hand-eye camera. First, the two stereo cameras, with wide viewing angle, measure object's pose roughly. Then, the 3rd hand-eye camera approaches the object, and corrects the previous measurement of the stereo camera system. Experimental results show usefulness of the proposed method.

  • An inversion method regulated by the error in the measurement of the first arrival time was developed, and we conducted a feasibility study by applying the method to a real cross-well seismic data. The inversion is a two-step regulation process; 1) derive the measurement error bound based on the resolution of the velocity image want to derive, and exclude the records whose picking error is larger than the error bound, 2) set the travel time residual to zero if the residual is less than the measurement error. This process prevents the trivial residuals are accumulated and contribute to the velocity-model update. Comparison of two velocity images, one by using all records and another by using the regulate inversion method, shows that the later velocity image exhibits less numerical artefacts, and it also indicates that, according to the Fermat's principle, the latter image is a more feasible velocity model.

  • In crosswell ray tomography, the resultant velocity structure could be affected by source static, first-arrival-time picking errors, convergence to a local minimum due to an inappropriate initial velocity model and etc. In the paper, I propose an algorithm that automatically correct the souce static among these error-prone factors. The algorithm automatically corrects source static using the picking times' differences along the source direction. The application of the algorithm to real data produces a quite satisfactory result. Tile algorithm seems to be helpful for users to apply the souce static correction consistently and to acquire accurate velocity structure.

  • Rapid variations in the geometry (i.e., thickness) of the refractor and low velocities affect greatly the imaging of the reflectors of land seismic data. Conventional solutions to obtain the weathering models utilizes first break picking method, which requires time consuming steps and causes the human error in picking the first arrivals. A new interferometric approach (interferometric refraction statics, IRS) which utilizes the first arrival signal (S/N enhanced by refraction convolution stack) instead of first break picking, is tested in this study to the synthetic data from the velocity structure provided by surface geophysics (refraction, MASW) and borehole geophysics (tomography, SPS logging) for the Cheongju granitic bodies. The results of IRS approach are found to be better than the ones from conventional first break picking in terms of continuities and horizontal resolution of the reflectors. The unresolved long-wavelength statics in brute stack are much removed by IRS weathering correction and the overlying refractors (the base of shallow weathering zone) are incidentally delineated in the refraction convolution stack.

  • In the conventional velocity analysis, the peaks of a semblance panel are picked and the stacking velocities of the peaks are assumed as RMS velocities from which interval velocities are determined. This velocity analysis technique is correct only for horizontal homogeneous layes and incurs error in a layer whose velocity varies laterally. Tediousness of peak picking and error in velocity analysis can be reduced by automatic velocity analysis techniques. An automatic velocity analysis algorithm has been presented in order to improve these problems by considering the stacking velocity from the view point of interval velocity model and by relating the stacking velocity and the interval velocity with the traveltimes. In this paper, we apply the automatic velocity analysis method to simple models having lateral velocity anomaly to verify the effectivenesses and limits of this method. From the results of numerical experiments, we can determine the interval velocites without pickings of the stacking velocities in the one-dimensional velocity analysis and the general patterns of the laterally varying interval velocities appear in the two-dimensional case. However, the interval velocity and the depth of velocity anomaly determined by two-dimensional automatic velocity analysis are somewaht discrepant in those of the theoretical model.

  • Several prospecting methods have been used to detect deep seated small tunnel in Korea. Tunnel interpretation of seismic method has been performed mainly by wave traveltime inversion method. But it often gives inacurate solution for the exact tunnel position because of the short distance between two measuring boreholes and picking errors of first arrivals. In this study, "error tomogram" was proposed to detect tunnel position and applied to theoretical and field dat using multi-source amplitude data.

  • In this paper, wafer drop from wafer guide mechanism, which is one of the serious problems in water transfer robot, is analyzed, and new wafer guide mechanisms are proposed to minimize this drop. Three types of new wafer guide mechanisms are proposed: roller type, gear type and L-shape rocker type. We choose one of the proposed mechanism, which is roller type, and verified this mechanism through real transfer experiment. Wafer picking up test is conducted with initial aligning error for simulating the wafer drop. Number of drop is compared between conventional mechanism and proposed mechanism. As a result, we can find the proposed mechanism can reduce the number of wafer drop dramatically.
