The dynamics of root system in the fairy rings of Tricholoma matsutake was investigated in four zones divided into 'zone of decayed mycorrhizae', 'zone of mycorrhizae for fruiting', 'zone of physiologically active mycorrhizae' and 'zone of roots free from mycorrhizal infection'. The roots of Pinus densiflora in fairy rings, which occupied 70% of upper crown, comprised about 60% and 87% of total roots and alive roots, respectively. The ratio of fine-roots of P. densiflora over total roots was relatively higher than other species since that of P. densiflora was about 45% while that of the other species was about 13% on research of fine-roots. Especially, the roots of pine comprised about 70% of total root in the zone of mycorrhizae for fruiting and the zone of physiologically active mycorrhizae, which indicated that the pine roots were closely related to the fairy rings of T. matsutake. The fine roots of P. densiflora in the zone of physiologically active mycorrhizae was about 60.7%(1,087mg/100g soil) which was about twice compared to that of other zones. It allowed us to suppose that the fine roots of P. densiflora can make active growth in the zone of physiologically active mycorrhizae, and the growth was promoted by the fairy ring formation of T. matsutake. In addition, we found 3~5 times higher amount of fine roots than that of medium roots of P. densiflora in this zone, which indicated that the fairy rings of T. matsutake locate in the region of active growth of P. densiflora' roots.
Regional MBF and MRGlc can be accurately estimated with N-13 ammonia and FDG PET using tracer kinetic methods including compartmental and non-compartmental approaches. Compartment modeling approaches are physiologically well characterized, but are methodologically more complicated. Noncompartmental analysis are easier to implement while the limitations and assumptions of the methods should be understood prior to the application of the method.
Although the majority of surviving pigs cloned by somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) appear to be physiologically normal, there is a general lack of detailed hemato-physiologic studies for the period of early adulthood to substantiate this claim. In the present study, we investigated variation in blood chemistry and endocrinological parameters between mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived from cloned and normal age-matched female and male miniature pigs. Cloned females and males showed normal ranges for complete blood count assessments. Biochemical assessments showed that ${\gamma}$-GGT, ALT and cholesterol levels of male and female clones were significantly (P<0.05 or P<0.01, respectively) higher than that of age-matched control miniature pigs. Variations in insulin and IGF-1 were higher in female clones than in male clones and controls. Thus, although female and male cloned miniature pigs may be physiologically similar to normal animals, or at least within normal ranges, a greater degree of physiological and endocrinological variation was found in cloned pigs. The above variation must be taken into account before considering cloned female or male miniature pigs for various biomedical applications.
As more and more people desire to live in an apartment complex with a comfortable outdoor space, many construction company became interested in outdoor design. In order to increase the use of outdoor space and create the most pleasant environment, outdoor thermal environment and comfort should be evaluated quantitatively from the design stage. This study utilized ENVI-met 3.1 model to analyze outdoor thermal environment in apartment complex, and evaluated outdoor thermal comfort in 6 points of apartment complex. The physiologically equivalent temperature(PET) was employed as a outdoor thermal index. Playground B had a poor thermal environment with the maximum PET $43^{\circ}C$ (Very hot). Because shading by building and tree didn't affect outdoor thermal environment of playground B. To design comfortable outdoor space from the view point of thermal environment, the factors influencing Mean radiant temperature(MRT) and wind speed should be considered in design stage. Since it is difficult to control outdoor thermal environment compared with indoor environment, we should take into account an assessment for outdoor thermal environment and comfort in outdoor design stage.
The effects of various kind and amount of nitrogen fertilizers on the plant grorth. physiological , yield and extracts. ligustilide, butylidene phthalide contents of curdsdrug "Tou-ki" (AnTelica acutiloba Kitagawa) were investigated in 1989. Five plots variouskind of nitrogen fertilizers. Namely, no nitrogen, urea. ammonium nitrate, ammoniumchloride and control plot of ammonium sulfate. The other, by providing five plotsdifferent composed ratio of nitrogenous fertilizers. containing no nitrogen (No. o) .0.5-fold nitrogen (No s), control plot of 1.0-fold nitrogen(Nl.o). 1.5-fold nitrogen(Nl s)and 2.0-fold nitrogen Na. o), but nitogen was used the ammonium sulfate. The results showedthat the crude drug "Tou-ki" can ammonium chloride be produced in good yield, displayingboth good plant growth and remarkable physiologically-active conditions, and it can beproduced such that the extracts is maximized. Additionally, using methods of gaschromatography (GC) , it was established that ligustilide and butylidene phthalide, majorcomponents in the crude drug was recovered in a good yield from the fully grown plants. The other, the plant growth, the physiologically-active, the weight of whole plant, theyield of extracts and ligustilide, butylidene phthalide were seen to be best at the plotof 2.0-fold nitrogen and according to the increase or decrease of nitrogen decreasedgradually. Therefore. about 2 fold of standard quantity seems to be the most suitablequantity of nitrogen for "Tou-ki" cultivation .uot;Tou-ki" cultivation .ion .
Physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling can provide an effective way to utilize in vitro and in silico based information in modern risk assessment for children and other potentially sensitive populations. In this review, we describe the process of in vitro to in vivo extrapolation (IVIVE) to develop PBPK models for a chemical in different ages in order to predict the target tissue exposure at the age of concern in humans. We present our on-going studies on pyrethroids as a proof of concept to guide the readers through the IVIVE steps using the metabolism data collected either from age-specific liver donors or expressed enzymes in conjunction with enzyme ontogeny information to provide age-appropriate metabolism parameters in the PBPK model in the rat and human, respectively. The approach we present here is readily applicable to not just to other pyrethroids, but also to other environmental chemicals and drugs. Establishment of an in vitro and in silico-based evaluation strategy in conjunction with relevant exposure information in humans is of great importance in risk assessment for potentially vulnerable populations like early ages where the necessary information for decision making is limited.
Identification and changes of physiologically active substances during chilling storage of dehisced ginseng (Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer) seeds were analyzed using various preparatory separation methods and purification columns; Dowex 50W and silica gel columns. Seven components with Rf values of 0.20, 0.40, 0.58, 0.66, and 0.70 In solvent system, $CHCl_3$:MeOH=3:1 (v/v), Rf values of 0. 63 and 0.74 in solvent system, $CHCl_3$:MeOH:$H_2O$:=7:3:1 (v/v) were obtained through Dowex 50W and silica gel column chromatographies. Two components with Rf values of 0.20 and 0.63 in the all chilling treatments were detected in the extract obtained through both chromatographies, and only the former component was gradually increased till 4 weeks of chilling storage and then rapidly decreased from 8 to 16 weeks. UV spectra of Rf values of 0.66 and 0.56 were similar to that of cytokinin, but their physiological activities were not found. Rf values of 0.20 showed activity by radish cotyledon expansion bioassay. The component with Rf value of 0.20 was revealed to have a naphthalene in the proposed chemical structure by various NMR techniques.

This study was to investigated the changes of physiologically active components in germinated brown rice treated with chitosan (CGBR) and its anti-obesity effect in rat fed a high fat diet. Contents of physiologically active compounds such as total phenolic compounds, total dietary fiber, $\gamma$-aminobutyric acid (GABA), and total phytic acid in CGBR were significantly higher than those of traditional germinated brown rice (GBR). Lipase inhibitory activity of CGBR was higher than those of GBR and brown rice (BR). High fat diets containing CGBR, GBR, and BR were administered to three groups of male Sprague-Dawley rats for four weeks. All groups showed no significant difference in body weight, total abdominal fat, and plasma lipid levels. However, CGBR group appeared to have lower body weight gain and total abdominal fat level than other groups fed high fat diets containing GBR and BR. Total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol contents in plasma of CGBR group were also lower than those of other groups. Thus, new germination method of brown rice using chitosan is a useful process, which utilizes plant defense responses to elevate the production of secondary metabolites and anti-obesity effect.
This study assessed the thermal comfort of new towns in the Seoul Metropolitan Area (Ilsan, Bundang, Dongtan1) using PET (Physiologically Equivalent Temperature) which refers to real human heat stress. The relationship between PET and urban spatial elements was also analyzed using multiple regression analysis. The study results show that the thermal comfort of Dongtan 1, which is considering a reduction of the urban heat island effect in the planning phase, is higher than other cities. In addition, through regression results, the impervious ratio, floor area ratio, commercial area ratio, and residential area ratio were found to be major factors increasing PET. Moreover, the river area ratio and NDVI were found to be major factors decreasing PET. This study has scientific significance as research that focuses on the assessment of thermal comfort scientifically and definitely, by estimating PET for an entire urban area using GIS analysis that included remote sense analysis and the wind field model. The results of this study can be used in preparing more effective urban plans for the promotion of citizen thermal comfort.
