  • Palpation of the pulse has been used in Korean traditional medicine since ancient times to assess physical health. Pulse wave contour may be obtained by measuring arterial pressure or blood volume change of skin. The latter is called as Photoplethysmography(PPG) or digital volume pulse(DVP). The PPG signal is measured by a device comprising an infrared light sourece and a photodetector. Although less widely used, this technique deserves further consideration because of its simplicity and ease of use. The contour of the PPG is formed as a result of a complex interaction between the left ventricle and the systemic circulation. It usually exhibits an early systolic peak and an early diastolic peak. the first peak is formed mainly by pressure trasmitted along a direct path from the left ventricle to the finger. The second peak is formed in part by pressure transmitted along the aorta and large arteries to sites of impedance mismatch in the lower body. The contour of the PPG is sensitive to changes in arterial tone and is influenced by ageing and large artery stiffness. Measurements taken directly from the PPG or from its second derivative can be used to assess these properties. In some mathematical approaches, the extraction of periodic components using frequency analysis was tried to analysis of the PPG. But we don't understand yet what kind of factor in the cardiovascular system or human body is related with the respective specific Fourier components of PPG. This review describes the background to measurement principles, representative contour, contour analysis and frequency domain analysis of PPG, and current and future.

  • In general, quantitative chemical analysis in various areas including food, the environment, in vitro diagnostics, etc., requires traceability in order to increase the reliability of the measurements. Measurement traceability is a property of an unbroken chain of comparisons relating an instrument's measurements to SI units. Purity analysis is the first process for establishing traceability to SI units in chemical measurements. The purpose of this study is to develop and validate a method of purity assignment for establishing the traceability of $17{\beta}$-estradiol measurements in an in vitro diagnostics field. The establishment of this method is very important as it can be applied to the development of CRM and to the analysis of the purity of other hormones. The method of assignment of the purity of $17{\beta}$-estradiol was developed using the mass balance method and was validated through participation in an International comparison. In the mass balance method, impurities are categorized into four classes as follows: total related structure impurities, water, residual organic solvents, and nonvolatiles/inorganics. In this study, total related structure impurities were characterized by a gas chromatography-flame ionization detector (GC-FID) and a high-performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet (HPLC-UV) detector, water content was determined by a Karl-Fisher coulometer, and total residual solvents and nonvolatiles/inorganics were checked simultaneously by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The purity of the $17{\beta}$-estradiol was 985.6 mg/g and the expanded uncertainty was 2.1 mg/g at 95% confidence. The developed method can be applied to the development of certified reference materials, which play a critical role in traceability.

  • We present the high-resolution near-infrared spectra of standard stars observed with Immersion Grating Infrared Spectrograph (IGRINS). IGRINS covers the full spectral range of H and K bands simultaneously with a high spectral resolution (R=40,000), revealing many previously undetected and/or unknown lines. In this work, we present preliminary results of spectroscopic diagnostics for stellar physical parameters. Our ultimate goal is to provide a library of near-infrared spectra of standard stars, which covers all spectral types and luminosity classes, with a high-resolution and high signal to noise ratio ($SNR{\geq}200$).

  • This paper proposes a home control system architecture that have network configuration function. The proposed home control system architecture is implemented with partly hardware and software. For implementation of this system architecture, we developed ECONICS which is home automation controller. ECONICS consists of main board and communication modem. This communication modem supply the power line communication. The physical layer and the MAC layer software of EIA 709.1 standard protocol are implemented in communication modem. The upper layer software of EIA 709.1 standard protocol and home configuration software for home network installation, management, diagnostics, control and monitoring are implemented in main board of ECONICS. We verified the commercial feasibility of the proposed system through the home network configuration and operation. As a result, we have concluded that the proposed home control system architecture provides all the key function necessary to easily manage and control home network nodes.

  • In this study, the thermoelastic beam in modified couple stress theory due to laser source and heat flux is investigated. The beam are heated by a non-Guassian laser pulse and heat flux. The Euler Bernoulli beam theory and the Laplace transform technique are applied to solve the basic equations for coupled thermoelasticity. The simply-supported and isothermal boundary conditions are assumed for both ends of the beam. A general algorithm of the inverse Laplace transform is developed. The analytical results have been numerically analyzed with the help of MATLAB software. The numerically computed results for lateral deflection, thermal moment and axial stress due to laser source and heat flux have been presented graphically. Some comparisons have been shown in figures to estimate the effects of couple stress on the physical quantities. A particular case of interest is also derived. The study of laser-pulse find many applications in the field of biomedical, imaging processing, material processing and medicine with regard to diagnostics and therapy.

  • Galaxy clusters as the densest and most prominent regions within the large-scale structure can be used as well characterizable laboratories to study astrophysical processes on the largest scales. X-ray observations provide currently the best way to determine the physical properties of galaxy clusters and the environmental parameters that describe them as laboratories. We illustrate this use of galaxy clusters and the precision of our understanding of them as laboratory environments with several examples. Their application to determine the matter composition of the Universe shows good agreement with results from other methods and is therefore a good test of our understanding. We test the reliability of mass measurements and illustrate the use of X-ray diagnostics to study the dynamical state of clusters. We discuss further studies on turbulence in the cluster ICM, the interaction of central AGN with the radiatively cooling plasma in cluster cooling cores and the lessons learned from the ICM enrichment by heavy elements.

  • It was diagnosed customer transformers and other equipment by using non-contact infrared equipment. Examiners can identify not only abnormalities in real time in the field of the transformer immediately, as well as they were able to safely perform the scan. Thanks to successful transformer diagnosis, we can easily diagnose abnormalities of transformer itself which can be caused by deterioration of the oil used as overlaod or refrigerant and we can also diagnose abnomalities from low voltage bushing which can be result by external environmental factors and physical factors and abnomalities from its connections at the same time we found it is very useful at proactive diagnostics.

  • Many kinds of conditioning monitoring technique have been studied, so this study has investigated the possibility of checking the trend in the fault diagnosis of ball bearing, one of the elements of rotating machine, by applying the cepstral analysis method using the adaptive noise cancelling (ANC) method. And computer simulation is conducted in oder to identify obviously the physical meaning of ANC. The optimal adaptation gain in adaptive filter is estimated, the performance of ANC according to the change of the signal to noise ratio and convergence of LMS algorithm is considered by simulation. It is verified that cepstral analysis using ANC method is more effective than the conventional cepstral analysis method in bearing fault diagnosis.

  • Diagnostics of plasma density and temperature play an important role for monitoring plasma processing and Laser Thomson scattering is a one of the most accurate diagnostic technique for measuring plasma density and temperature because of none-perturbation to plasma among various diagnostic techniques invented to measure plasma density and temperature. I will briefly review Laser Thomson scattering experiment performed in KRISS and difficulties for measuring the electron velocity distribution such as Gaussian due to low signal-to-noise ratio with showing results that we got until now. This work is an intermediate step in a process that we will get a reliable data which shows physical phenomenon of plasma compared with other diagnostic techniques and results.
